00:00:00Thank you
00:01:00Baby, it's okay, you're dreaming.
00:01:30Come on, sweetheart, we've got to go.
00:01:53I'm going to miss my flight.
00:01:54Okay.
00:01:55You seemed tense.
00:01:56You didn't have that dream again, did you?
00:01:57No.
00:02:00I'm just anxious about the meeting.
00:02:04I've got to make this guy talk.
00:02:06Or else my story sucks, Griff will never buy it, and there goes my internship.
00:02:09Just be firm.
00:02:10Don't let him intimidate you.
00:02:11It's easier said than done.
00:02:12The guy's tough.
00:02:13You know, intimidation is not exactly my strong suit.
00:02:15Hey, you're smart, kiddo.
00:02:18I know you can do it.
00:02:22Come on.
00:02:23All right, remember, nerves are stealing.
00:02:37I'll try.
00:02:38Don't try, just do it.
00:02:43Be a good girl, honey.
00:02:46I'm always good.
00:02:47I'm going, I'm going.
00:03:08We're proceeding to taxi onto the runway.
00:03:22At this time, we ask the staff that you see them and prepare to take them.
00:03:25Hi.
00:03:39Hello.
00:03:39How are you?
00:03:40I'm fine.
00:03:42Looks like it's going to be a short flight.
00:03:45I'm not short enough as far as I'm concerned.
00:03:47They never give us enough leg space.
00:03:50You're right about that.
00:03:52So what brings you to San Francisco?
00:03:53A story on a city bigwig who's been implicated in a huge sex scandal.
00:03:57How exciting.
00:03:59Who do you write for?
00:04:00We're a magazine.
00:04:01Great articles.
00:04:02You live in L.A.?
00:04:03Yeah.
00:04:04Do you?
00:04:05I now spend most of my time up north.
00:04:07We have a home in Napa Valley.
00:04:09I love the weather.
00:04:11I have space to think, ride my horses.
00:04:14It's so hard to focus in L.A.
00:04:17My husband, though, he prefers the house and by the beach.
00:04:21God, it must be beautiful up there right now.
00:04:23Storybook green, right?
00:04:26I went to Catholic boarding school up there.
00:04:28Nothing but green pastures and cows.
00:04:31Oh, we replaced the milk with the wine, darling, a long time ago.
00:04:35How funny.
00:04:36I went to Catholic boarding school myself.
00:04:38You didn't.
00:04:39You know, my husband always teases me.
00:04:43He says that that's why I'm so screwed up.
00:04:45Four years without boys.
00:04:47My husband would agree.
00:04:49And you know what?
00:04:51They're probably right.
00:04:52Your electronic parking card shows you didn't check out of the garage until midnight that night.
00:05:04Sometimes I work late.
00:05:06Well, can you tell me why Beverly was at your office the night of the rape?
00:05:08She wasn't at my office.
00:05:11I saw her waiting at the bus stop, out of my window.
00:05:13That was never in the police report.
00:05:15There was never a bus scheduled for that line that night.
00:05:18How could you have been waiting for a bus that was never scheduled?
00:05:21I'm going to try to say this in a nice way.
00:05:24About something that could get extremely ugly.
00:05:27It would be very wise of you not to proceed with your inquiries.
00:05:33Good.
00:05:34And we agree, there is no storm.
00:05:37You'll excuse me, Ms. Barton.
00:05:47Taxi?
00:06:04I have a reservation for Mrs. Barton, please.
00:06:13Elizabeth?
00:06:14Oh, my God.
00:06:15What are you doing here?
00:06:16My flight was canceled.
00:06:18The fog.
00:06:18Mine, too.
00:06:19Isn't this crazy?
00:06:21Bob, this is the woman I was telling you about.
00:06:23We met on the way out.
00:06:24Pleasure.
00:06:26Nice to meet you.
00:06:27Join us for a nightcap?
00:06:30Oh, come on.
00:06:31Live a little dangerously.
00:06:32It'll be fun.
00:06:34Why not?
00:06:42Excuse me.
00:06:48I didn't realize your husband was joining you up here.
00:06:51Bob?
00:06:51Oh, he's not my husband.
00:06:56Oh, come on, darling.
00:06:57Don't say you didn't figure it out.
00:06:58Writers always figure it out.
00:07:00Wouldn't you say, Bob?
00:07:01You're interested in character, aren't you?
00:07:04Oh, yeah.
00:07:05And I'm interested in dessert.
00:07:08Real decadent.
00:07:10And sweet.
00:07:11And sweet.
00:07:11What are you going to do to me tonight?
00:07:15That's kind of a strange question, because when you see it, you won't call me.
00:07:33Good night.
00:07:33Good night.
00:07:36I'll call you back in L.A.

00:13:18maybe not for you
00:13:32Hello, Elizabeth? This is Anne. San Francisco last week? Yeah, sure. How are you? Good. I just called to say hi. I see how you were doing. I really enjoyed our time together.
00:14:01So did I. It was fine. So how was everything? Great. How's Bob? Oh, behaving himself, though not with me. Anne, I've been really curious about something. I mean, I know that it's none of my business, so feel free to tell me to shut up at any time. But I have to ask, have there been others like Bob? God, no. Never. What do you think? I mean, I can't actually believe I'm doing something like this. Never in my wildest dreams. I wasn't looking, you understand. It just happened.
00:14:32Is it serious? I don't know. I'm confused. You know, I come from a very sheltered, protected background. Oh, God. I can't believe I'm telling you all this.
00:14:42She tries to resist, but the chemistry's too good. It's like some weird kind of fate. But of course she's torn with that nagging guilt. She's a good girl. And good girls don't indulge in affairs.
00:14:52She married too soon. She didn't sow any wild oats.
00:14:57Hey, I know a lot of women who married number one, and they're doing just fine. This isn't about right or wrong. It's about her reactions to what's going on. The drama, the deceit, the guilt, the self-loathing.
00:15:07But then there's the raw passion, the thrill, the whole crushing experience.
00:15:12I think that's what the special issue is about. Sexual discovery. This is a woman in transition, coming out of her cocoon.
00:15:21What's the score?
00:15:23Anatomy of an affair. A first-timer. The virgin adulteress.
00:15:28A virgin adulteress.
00:15:47That's good. Very good. Maybe even excellent.
00:15:55Catholic girl goes astray, but not too far.
00:15:58Very nice.
00:15:59But, Elizabeth, the terrain. Infidelity. Adulteress. Sexual activity. Isn't that foreign territory for you? You may need a passport.
00:16:09I think I can handle it.
00:16:12You do?
00:16:13Yes, I do.
00:16:14Well, I hope so, for your sake. Because if you don't have a rough draft in two weeks, you may want to consider a new source of employment. Put that cigarette out.
00:16:21Look, just do the best you can, and don't worry about it.
00:16:28Okay.
00:16:28I loved your presentation. You are so great, Maria.
00:16:31Yeah?
00:16:32How'd you get that woman to open up?
00:16:34I don't know. It's weird. It's almost like she wants to.
00:16:36Do you believe it's possible to have an affair and not have it affect your marriage?
00:16:40I don't know. I mean, she seems to think so, and she's living it. God, Laura, she seems so free.
00:16:46I don't believe it. I mean, it's bad karma. You put that kind of energy out there, and it's bound to come back and hurt you.
00:16:52You know, you should call my psychic, Kalia. She's so in tune. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:16:58I'm serious.
00:17:00Oh. I don't know, but, you know, it sounds a little kinky.
00:17:06Kinky?
00:17:06Yeah.
00:17:08Why is it okay for a man to have an affair, and a woman has an affair, and it's kinky?
00:17:12Well, maybe I don't want you getting any ideas.
00:17:17This is not about me.
00:17:19Lizzie, don't start that again.
00:17:20I told you, I haven't been with anybody else since we've been married.
00:17:24God, you're so insecure.
00:17:27I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about her.
00:17:32You know, it would be really nice if you were a little supportive from time to time.
00:17:37Don't taste it.
00:17:40It's garlic.
00:17:43It's probably her now.
00:17:45Here, stir my sauce.
00:17:48Hello?
00:17:48Hello?
00:17:48Well, why don't you tell me how you met Mom?
00:17:57This is great, Ann.
00:17:58I can't believe how much we covered.
00:18:00Look, let's meet at the beach tomorrow.
00:18:03I'll see you then.
00:18:03Oh, God, yes. I was so nervous.
00:18:08So where did it finally happen?
00:18:10The Miramar.
00:18:12On Santa Monica?
00:18:14Mm-hmm.
00:18:14Yes.
00:18:15We got a room at the hotel.
00:18:18We had lunch sent up with champagne.
00:18:19It was absolutely divine.
00:18:21He was so sweet and adoring in the sex.
00:18:24It was amazingly great.
00:18:26God, I don't mean to be so blunt, but I never had sex like that.
00:18:30I just didn't know it existed.
00:18:32So it was like, you mean there's this?
00:18:35You know the sweetest thing?
00:18:37Mm-hmm.
00:18:38He sent a bouquet of roses to the house with a card the next day.
00:18:45This is just so strange.
00:18:47Remember how you were telling me about how you first met Bob?
00:18:50Standing in line at the movies and having coffee afterwards
00:18:53and now making love for the first time at the Miramar
00:18:56and getting roses and a note later?
00:18:59It's almost exactly like it happened with Eric and I.
00:19:03No, you're serious?
00:19:05Yes.
00:19:08I think it's time we had that fabulous bottle of wine that we brought.
00:19:18Here you go.
00:19:20Either you and I are incredibly alike
00:19:22or that's an awfully bizarre coincidence.
00:19:24Cheers.
00:19:31Two coincidences.
00:19:34Coincidences.
00:19:36Beth, I hate to say this, but I've decided to like it.
00:19:39Screwing someone else besides my husband.
00:19:43This is just so hard to believe.
00:19:44Darling, look.
00:19:45You and I were the good girls, prim and proper.
00:19:48Married the first man we slept with.
00:19:50Love and happiness forever after.
00:19:52But that was then.
00:19:53This is now.
00:19:55And I'd like to think that I'm a bit of a late bloomer.
00:19:58And that I have a whole lot of experience ahead of me.
00:20:01I can do absolutely anything with him.
00:20:03Do you know how great that is?
00:20:04To be like that with someone?
00:20:06Whenever you want, whatever fantasy you want.
00:20:08You make it sound so amazing.
00:20:10Okay.
00:20:20Eric makes me feel like a woman.
00:20:22That's good.
00:20:23Like a sexy woman?
00:20:26Sexy?
00:20:27Sure.
00:20:28Whatever that means.
00:20:30Do you play games?
00:20:31Well, we used to.
00:20:34Eric can be passionate.
00:20:36I could go home and dress up,
00:20:38and I know it would drive him crazy.
00:20:40Eric can take me in his arms
00:20:41and make love to me for hours.
00:20:43And I know he really appreciates me.
00:20:46Eric and I are...
00:20:47What are you doing?
00:20:53What's gotten into you?
00:20:56Do you like it?
00:20:59Lizzie, I don't need that to find you attractive.
00:21:01I told you.
00:21:10I'm perfectly happy with Eric.
00:21:12Admit it.
00:21:13You're curious.
00:21:14You don't even have your tape recorder on.
00:21:16You're asking me all this stuff now
00:21:18because you want to know,
00:21:19not professionally,
00:21:20but personally.
00:21:21I thought this was going to be about sex,
00:21:24but it's not.
00:21:24It's about disobedience
00:21:26and empowerment
00:21:27to disobey the rules
00:21:29others made us live by
00:21:31and living with what works for us,
00:21:33for me.
00:21:35But tell me truthfully.
00:21:37You don't feel guilty
00:21:38making love to Bob?
00:21:40You can live with yourself.
00:21:43There's no dirty feeling,
00:21:45no sense of betrayal.
00:21:49It's not living with myself.
00:21:52It's living for myself.
00:21:53And as for betrayal,
00:21:56my husband forged that one
00:21:58a long time ago.
00:21:59He's chosen to get disinvolved,
00:22:02so I get involved elsewhere.
00:22:05Look,
00:22:06having an affair
00:22:06is having an affair.
00:22:08You go, you do it,
00:22:09and then you go home.
00:22:10Everything stays exactly the same.
00:22:14Imagine that you met someone new,
00:22:16handsome as hell,
00:22:18and just looking at him
00:22:19made you hot.
00:22:20And circumstance made it
00:22:21so you could go to bed together.
00:22:23Yes, you could.
00:22:28No one would know.
00:22:30You could do it
00:22:31and your life would stay
00:22:32exactly as it is.
00:22:35You could do it
00:22:36and love every fucking minute of it.
00:22:39I couldn't.
00:22:41I wouldn't.
00:22:42But what if you could?
00:22:48But what if you could?
00:22:48I wouldn't.
00:22:50I don't know.
00:22:51I don't know.
00:22:52You could do it.
00:22:54You could do it.
00:22:54I don't know.
00:22:55But what if you could do it?
00:22:56Do it.
00:22:57Hi, we're not home.
00:23:27He's dropping on Bob and me.
00:23:32Almost like being here.

00:27:37Maybe it's a different
00:27:38story.
00:27:40Maybe it's a bigger story.
00:27:42Don't you get it, Eric?
00:27:44I really feel like this is going to be my
00:27:46breakthrough piece. You know how many times I've heard
00:27:48that pathetic line?
00:27:55Lizzie.
00:28:00Just drop this whole thing, huh?
00:28:03Give us a chance to finish
00:28:04the house.
00:28:06Build a great life together.
00:28:09Fuck you.
00:28:10Jesus Christ.
00:28:12Why should I give up my dreams like you?
00:28:15Just let them sit in a corner
00:28:17and gather dust like your photography
00:28:19equipment?
00:28:21Why is that okay with you?
00:28:23It's not okay with you.
00:28:26There's just so much about us
00:28:27that it's not okay.
00:28:29I know.
00:28:30Dinner was canceled last night.
00:28:31Where were you?
00:28:33Where were you?
00:28:37Just having a drink.
00:28:39Having a couple drinks.
00:28:42By myself alone.
00:28:44Okay.
00:28:44Okay.
00:28:45Eric, this is David, the office.
00:29:10The boss is looking bigalophile, and I can't find it.
00:29:12I know you put him away for safekeeping, U.S.O.B.
00:29:15He seems pretty anxious, so call me as soon as possible.
00:29:21Hey, Elizabeth, it's Sarah.
00:29:23We have her?
00:29:24I can tell you.
00:29:26So call me when you get a chance.
00:29:27Okay.
00:29:29Elizabeth, that you might get a kick out of yeast dropping on bull.
00:29:33Almost like being here.
00:29:35You felt great.
00:29:38Run in.
00:29:39Run in.
00:29:40Anytime, darling.
00:29:42Tell me.
00:29:42Why all my life
00:29:46doesn't like for you.
00:29:48Run in.
00:29:51Nothing like for you to make it happen.
00:29:54So, like, I'm in this, you know, total funk.
00:30:02The acting is, like, completely back burner.
00:30:04I'm like Bill Holden in Sunset Boulevard, right?
00:30:07And I'm in New York,
00:30:08doing my usual Saturday night at the Pierre Bar.
00:30:12Nightman floats me a double Cointreau,
00:30:14because he knows I like the French stuff, you know,
00:30:15impresses the ladies or whatever.
00:30:17It says he's got a guy from L.A.
00:30:20who wants to meet me.
00:30:21It's a hush-hush thing,
00:30:23but he smells money, right?
00:30:24So right away, I mean, you know,
00:30:26I'm interested.
00:30:27Anyway, listen to this, by the way.
00:30:29Bob, the newcomer from New York,
00:30:32with a haunting presence,
00:30:34turns into truly inspiring performance.
00:30:37Cool.
00:30:37So that's something.
00:30:39Anyway, so I meet the dude,
00:30:42which is what I call him.
00:30:43The dude, right?
00:30:44And he lays out the gig for me,
00:30:46which is all I gotta do
00:30:47is I have to initiate an affair
00:30:49with this broad, right?
00:30:51But he's gonna give me all the particulars
00:30:52that I need to, like, properly seduce her.
00:30:55No shit.
00:30:56Seriously, I mean,
00:30:57he's giving me all the accoutrements.
00:30:58I'm talking a car,
00:31:00upgraded threads, everything, right?
00:31:02So he shows me a picture,
00:31:03because that's important.
00:31:03I gotta see what she looks like, right?
00:31:05And she looks good.
00:31:05I mean, she's almost a babe.
00:31:06It's like, you know,
00:31:08I mean, she's a little bit sedate looking around
00:31:10thinking this isn't a problem.
00:31:11Totally doable, nailable thing.
00:31:13Plus he got you the lead on the play, right?
00:31:15Mm-hmm, yeah.
00:31:15God, I love this city.
00:31:18Cockroach to budding star and...
00:31:20What sort of extension are we talking about?
00:31:29Maybe just a week.
00:31:31Well, like, uh,
00:31:32what her favorite foreplay is.
00:31:34I know how she trembles
00:31:37just before she comes.
00:31:39See, I know lots of things about her,
00:31:40pretty private stuff,
00:31:40just not stuff that's right for you
00:31:42or for your little interview.
00:31:43How about her husband?
00:31:44Did she ever mention him,
00:31:45maybe where he works,
00:31:47what he does for a living?
00:31:48Nope.
00:31:48Wouldn't have a clue.
00:31:49I'm sure she told you, really.
00:31:50It was no strings attached.
00:31:51Maybe she just, you know,
00:31:52had her fill and thought,
00:31:53enough's enough.
00:31:56Hmm.
00:31:58The last time I spoke to her,
00:31:59she told me that she was
00:32:00falling in love with you.
00:32:01She sounded very excited.
00:32:03What?
00:32:03It's bullshit, okay?
00:32:07She was in love with her husband,
00:32:09not me.
00:32:10She had great sex with me.
00:32:12It wasn't love.
00:32:14I think she knows the difference.
00:32:16Well, she's wrong.
00:32:18She didn't sound wrong.
00:32:20Ain't could sound a lot of ways, okay?
00:32:22She was very practiced
00:32:23in the art of deception.
00:32:24I have a feeling
00:32:26you're not bad at it yourself.
00:32:29Only when I'm paid to be.
00:32:30I'm an egg.
00:32:38That's nice.
00:32:40She made quite a point
00:32:42of a Catholic boarding school
00:32:43that she went to,
00:32:44graduated at the top of her class.
00:32:46What's so funny?
00:32:47A Catholic boarding school
00:32:48at the top of her class?
00:32:49Come on.
00:32:50No, no, no, no.
00:32:52End and finish high school.
00:32:54Are you sure?
00:32:56I'm positive.
00:32:56I'm positive.
00:33:00I'm positive.
00:33:00I'm positive.
00:33:30Let's go.
00:34:00Let's go.
00:34:30Let's go.
00:34:32Let's go.
00:34:34Let's go.
00:34:36Let's go.
00:34:38What are you trying to say?
00:34:40I figured it out.
00:34:42God, you scared the hell out of me.
00:34:46How did you know where I live?
00:34:48It wasn't hard to find.
00:34:50What did you figure out?
00:34:54Something about Ann?
00:34:56No.
00:34:58About you.
00:35:00See?
00:35:02First, I thought to myself, what is this nice, happily married woman doing writing about extramarital affairs?
00:35:10Doesn't add up.
00:35:12I get paid to be interested.
00:35:14I don't buy it.
00:35:16This isn't about Ann or her affairs.
00:35:20This is about you.
00:35:22Portrait of the writer emerging from darkness.
00:35:24Hmm?
00:35:26That's ridiculous.
00:35:28Is it?
00:35:29You're not looking for Ann.
00:35:31You're trying to find yourself.
00:35:33Look, you don't know anything about me.
00:35:34You don't?
00:35:35Indulge me.
00:35:37I mean, you have taken great care to hide your life inside this narrow little comfort zone here.
00:35:46It is so obvious what kind of world you've created for yourself.
00:35:51You are not the successful writer that you should be.
00:35:54Why is that?
00:35:56Because trying to protect ourselves doesn't work.
00:35:59It never does.
00:36:00Life is not about trying to be safe and comfortable.
00:36:03Life is about one thing.
00:36:05It's about living.
00:36:07To be truly alive.
00:36:08Isn't that what you want?
00:36:10To finally be free?
00:36:13I understand that.
00:36:15You see?
00:36:16I get it.
00:36:17I get you.
00:36:19And he doesn't.
00:36:21Does he?
00:36:22Your husband and me.
00:36:24Of course he doesn't.
00:36:26Because he is not like us.
00:36:28He's not an artist.
00:36:30Sometimes I get so scared.
00:36:34I know you do.
00:36:36But it's calling you.
00:36:38And you've got to follow your heart.
00:36:41Because you don't want to live with regrets, do you?
00:36:46Hmm?
00:36:50No.
00:36:51Hello?
00:36:52It's me.
00:36:53I got the Bigelow account.
00:36:54That's great, honey.
00:36:55Can you give me a ride to the airport?
00:36:56Sure.
00:36:57Just let me know where and when.
00:36:58All right.
00:36:59Okay.
00:37:00I love you.
00:37:01Are you ready?
00:37:02Are you ready?
00:37:03No.
00:37:04No.
00:37:05Any time to order.
00:37:06No.
00:37:07No.
00:37:08No.
00:37:09No.
00:37:10No.
00:37:11No.
00:37:12No.
00:37:13No.
00:37:14No.
00:37:15No.
00:37:16No.
00:37:17No.
00:37:18No.
00:37:19No.
00:37:44she sounded really scared like something awful was about to happen elizabeth stop obsessing
00:37:53about this just drop the story i can handle it you know i don't get you anymore this sounds
00:37:59dangerous it's time to back off okay i can't back off i have to do this i know you probably
00:38:05wouldn't understand try me life is not about being safe it's not about pretending it's about
00:38:11seeing things for what they really are like not pretending we're not having problems with our
00:38:15marriage and that i didn't find a book in the closet from another woman obviously a relationship you

00:41:34and there is another reason
00:41:38why i had to keep my distance
00:41:41i know why

00:49:31Hey, it's me. You there?
00:49:48Lizzie.
00:49:50I miss you.
00:49:50Baby, where are you?
00:49:54I hope everything's okay. Look, things are going great up here. I want to apologize. I'm sorry. I love you.
00:50:00Call me at the hotel.
00:50:03Where's my story, Elizabeth? Your time's up.
00:50:07What if I can't do this?
00:50:08Yeah, this is Detective James Martin. I've got that information you requested.
00:50:13I'm gonna fax through the rap sheet on this guy.
00:50:15He's a seasoned criminal with several felonies on his record.
00:50:18You should be real careful around him.
00:50:20Eric, where are you?
00:50:44Eric.
00:50:46San Francisco Hilton.
00:50:52Eric Barton, please.
00:50:54Uh, he checked out this morning.
00:50:55What do you mean, he checked out? Are you sure?
00:50:58Yes, positive.
00:51:00Yeah, okay. Thank you.
00:51:03He checked out.
00:51:04Where are you when I need you?
00:51:10Where the fuck are you?
00:51:15Fucking lie!
00:51:16Hi.
00:51:41Hey.
00:51:41Can you help me?
00:51:43Sure.
00:51:43A friend of mine may have purchased something here. Can you make any sense of this?
00:51:48I can make out her first name Jennifer, but that's about it. Last name is too smudged.
00:51:53Well, is there any other source where it might be?
00:51:56Not on the first time buyer. Nice looking lady, though. Great legs.
00:52:02Can you tell what she bought?
00:52:04Sony 8mm video camera with an automatic timer. She wanted that.
00:52:10For the camera?
00:52:10Sure. Security. Surveillance. Kinky stuff in the bedroom.
00:52:16No, just kidding. She didn't seem the type. He did.
00:52:19He?
00:52:19Yeah, the guy with her. Tall, dark, kind of Italian. Passing himself off as an actor.
00:52:26Great excuse not to work if you ask me.
00:52:29Funny, I just called. His order is ready.
00:52:32What order?
00:52:32Made some dupes for him. Copies of a video. It was a rush order, I guess. Something important.
00:52:40I get it for you, but it's not here. We found it out. He's picking it up directly from the lab downtown.
00:52:51Tell them I sent you.
00:52:52Hey, come back any time. I'll get you a deal on a video.
00:53:06Honestly, I don't see one decent photograph of the whole bunch.
00:53:09Well, I'll tell you what.
00:53:11Please, just one more day. I'm on to something, I swear.
00:53:16Hold on a second.
00:53:18Elizabeth, I need real proof.
00:53:19I'm getting it.
00:53:23Well, leave it here. I'll give it a read. Meet me across the street at 530 and leave your cell phone number.
00:53:28No, not you.
00:53:29Well, honestly, just the thought of looking at him again makes me nauseous.
00:53:33Forget about it. I'm pulling you off your project.
00:53:35I'll give it to you.
00:54:05Griff, Elizabeth, I'm on to something. 335, bro. I'm going to be late for our 530, but I'll be there.
00:54:31I'll be there.
00:54:36I've got to have the guts to know you're ending birth.
00:54:39Okay.
00:54:40Okay.
00:54:40Okay.
00:55:01She was an absolute pleasure.
00:55:24I think that this changes it.
00:55:28No way.
00:55:31Hey, I fulfilled my end of the deal, man.
00:55:34You can't just decide that now.
00:55:36I'm not going to let you do this.
00:55:37Hey, fuck you, man.
00:55:42We had a deal.
00:55:44The girl is fine.
00:55:47Listen, I'm watching this thing right now.
00:55:51Listen, I've got the original and I've got the only copies, okay?
00:55:55So what's it going to be?
00:55:56Look, if she becomes a problem, I'll take care of her personally.
00:55:58Uh, I'm going to call you right back.
00:56:08Hey!
00:56:10Elizabeth!
00:56:11Hey, now!
00:56:12Hey.
00:56:29Blue!
00:56:37Hey!
00:56:37Hey.
00:56:37Hey!
00:56:38Hey!
00:56:40Hey.
00:56:40Oh, my God!
00:56:46Oh, my God!
00:56:49Oh, my God!
00:56:51Come on!
00:57:10Oh, my God!
00:57:21Elizabeth! God, are you all right?
00:57:24My story just got bigger.
00:57:26The woman I've been looking for, I think she's dead.
00:57:29Yeah, my God, are you all right?
00:57:32I'll check in later.
00:57:34Nailing the ending of your store does not mean the end of you, Elizabeth.
00:57:38Do you have proof?
00:57:39I'm this close.
00:57:46I'm gone, child. What have you gotten yourself into?
00:57:50Lizzie?
00:57:52Honey, where are you?
00:57:53Lizzie?
00:58:09Is he at the theater yet?
00:58:10He's scheduled to go on tonight, but he isn't here yet.
00:58:11Damn it.
00:58:12I've got to get that tape. I know that's what Ann was trying to say on my answer.
00:58:13How do you know he hasn't?
00:58:14Because I snuck over to this place earlier, and I saw him watching it.
00:58:15Laurie, I've got to get in there, get it, and get out.
00:58:16You're in way over your head on this. You should be careful.
00:58:17I know.
00:58:18But like Griff says, no guts, no story.
00:58:21Laurie, I need you to buy me some time. If he shows up here, just make sure he doesn't leave.
00:58:27Be careful!
00:58:28Be careful!
00:58:29I know.
00:58:30I know.
00:58:31I know.
00:58:32I know.
00:58:33But like Griff says, no guts, no story.
00:58:34Laurie, I need you to buy me some time. If he shows up here, just make sure he doesn't leave.
00:58:39Be careful!
00:58:40I know.
00:58:41I know.
00:58:42I know.
00:58:43I know.
00:58:44Be careful!
00:59:09I know.
00:59:10I know.
00:59:11I know.
00:59:34Okay, thanks.
00:59:35See you later.

01:03:21I mean, I have...
01:03:25Oh, my God.
01:03:38Come on, pick up. Pick up.
01:03:42Griff. Elizabeth.
01:03:44You're not gonna believe what I've just seen.
01:03:46What's wrong? Are you all right?
01:03:48Elizabeth, what's wrong?
01:03:51Elizabeth, where are you?
01:03:53Oh, shit.
01:03:54Elizabeth.
01:03:55He's still here.
01:03:56He's here.
01:03:57Who?
01:03:58Pick me up at the market on Ocean. Please hurry.
01:04:21Oh, man.
01:04:26Okay.
01:04:35Oh.
01:04:42Ryan.
01:04:43Ron!
01:04:53Are you all right?
01:04:54You're not going to believe this video.
01:04:56What's on it, what I saw tonight.
01:04:58Have you spoken to anyone else about this?
01:05:00No one. I mean, I haven't had time. I just came from there.
01:05:02Where?
01:05:03Bob's.
01:05:04Bob?
01:05:05Bob was murdered tonight by, oh, my God.
01:05:08Oh, my God, by, I think, Eric, but I don't know.
01:05:10I mean, it just happened so fast.
01:05:12Murdered?
01:05:12Well, just relax a little bit.
01:05:16I'll take you somewhere where you'll be safe.
01:05:25Are you all right?
01:05:29Where are we going?
01:05:31I'll just have to make a little detail.
01:05:33I hope you don't mind.
01:05:38Well, when are you taking me?
01:05:40I'll have a little surprise for you, Elizabeth.
01:05:46Did I ever tell you that I hate surprises?
01:05:49You can run, but you surely cannot hide.
01:06:04What is destined to be, shall be.
01:06:08Please, my love.
01:06:23What is it?
01:06:25It's for you.
01:06:26I can't.
01:06:27Oh, I think you can.
01:06:29I think we can.
01:06:31Can what?
01:06:32Can do whatever we want.
01:06:34Whatever you want.
01:06:35Elizabeth, we think we know life.
01:06:37We think we know people, but we don't know anything.
01:06:40The only thing I am certain of is my loving you.
01:06:43I never realized I was capable of so much love.
01:06:46Nor of doing what I have unfortunately done.
01:06:48What circumstances have forced me to do.
01:06:50Ann was an exceptionally gifted woman at making people believe what she wanted them to believe.
01:07:00Everyone thought she was such a devoted wife.
01:07:03Wave?
01:07:04Oh, don't worry about that, Elizabeth.
01:07:06The hate in our marriage stemmed from something much more substantial than mere infidelity.
01:07:10She wanted to destroy me.
01:07:11She wanted to destroy all my dreams once she realized that I was no longer in love with her.
01:07:16And she would have taken everything from me.
01:07:19She was as manipulative and cold-blooded as they come.
01:07:22She was pale as a man.
01:07:24But let's not dwell in them all of it.
01:07:26Would you like to have some strawberries?
01:07:31Please.
01:07:34Our life together will be rather extraordinary from now on.
01:07:37Together we will conquer the literary world.
01:07:39For starters, a five-year contract with a magazine starting at a six-figure level car, of your choice, of course.
01:07:48How would you like to have a house in Malibu and a penthouse in New York City and a table of your own at Elaine's?
01:07:54You go to all the best places.
01:07:56You and I will travel the world together.
01:07:59Right.
01:08:00Anything your heart desires, you will have.
01:08:06Have you forgotten that I have a husband?
01:08:08Oh yes, a husband that started this whole dirty thing.
01:08:12A husband that cheated, a husband that lied.
01:08:14The husband that didn't believe in your dreams, just cared about your paycheck, didn't give a damn about you and your life.
01:08:20Yes, your husband.
01:08:23I've been considering this.
01:08:31Your precious husband.
01:08:33How will you explain, Ann?
01:08:47Apparently, Ann and her lover are on an extended vacation in Barbados.
01:08:53Probably will not be returning.
01:08:55That, of course, would devastate me.
01:08:56But I will carry on.
01:08:59What about Bob?
01:09:02Sometimes a man's chequered past catches up with him, which requires a hasty departure, usually to a faraway foreign country.
01:09:09You certainly have thought of everything.
01:09:14Yes, I have.
01:09:17Let's say I've edited down to a walkable piece.
01:09:20The bottom line, Elizabeth, is I love you.
01:09:27I know the lifestyle that you want.
01:09:29And I can give you everything you want.
01:09:32There is, however, one thing I must insist upon.
01:09:37We take care of Eric.
01:09:39Take care of?
01:09:40We'll do it together.
01:09:42That will seal our bond of love.
01:09:44I hope you don't mind.
01:09:52I've invited a friend of yours.
01:09:55Eric.
01:09:56Thank you for joining us.
01:09:58Please.
01:10:00I'm sure you know the young lady.
01:10:01I'm a staff journalist.
01:10:04Please, have said.
01:10:07So you actually made the big time, huh?
01:10:09I'm a staff writer.
01:10:10Oh, yes.
01:10:12Elizabeth is destined for big things indeed.
01:10:17Congratulations, honey.
01:10:18Yes.
01:10:19I was just telling Elizabeth about the apartment.
01:10:21Fascinating story of how I came about finding this place.
01:10:26I thought this place was Anne's.
01:10:28So did Anne.
01:10:29Little did she know she was subletting from me.
01:10:31Eric, I believe you know my wife, Anne.
01:10:33Do you not?
01:10:35Uh.
01:10:37Possibly.
01:10:39Oh, possibly.
01:10:40Honey.
01:10:42I thought for sure you and my wife were having an affair.
01:10:47Oh.
01:10:48All right.
01:10:49Lizzie, this guy's out of his mind.
01:10:51Let's get out of here.
01:10:52Ah!
01:10:53Ah!
01:10:53Ah!
01:10:58Now, does that help refresh your memory?
01:11:03Some of those long lingering afternoons in the Miramar Hotel with my wife.
01:11:08Or do you need to sit down and collect your thoughts?
01:11:17Put your pathetic ass in this chair.
01:11:19What is this bullshit?
01:11:22I don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
01:11:24See, he doesn't know anything.
01:11:28He doesn't.
01:11:29Exhibit A, Anne's diary.
01:11:36Let me read a few passages.
01:11:38August 19th, just several months ago, Eric made such a funny joke today about that nitwit
01:11:46wife of his, the writer.
01:11:48The joke was, was she more inexperienced at making love or writing?
01:11:54God, did we laugh.
01:11:56You're lying.
01:11:57I never said that.
01:11:58It's all right, Eric.
01:11:59No!
01:12:00No, you're lying!
01:12:01He's lying!
01:12:02Is this lying?
01:12:07All right.
01:12:10It happened before we met, I swear.
01:12:13Is that being a devoted husband, Eric?
01:12:16I think it's disgusting.
01:12:18Making fun of your lovely wife's dreams.
01:12:20I, I knew, hold on.
01:12:27All right, I had just about enough out of you, you fucking psycho!
01:12:33God!
01:12:34Death!
01:12:39The hell is wrong with this man?
01:12:42Why do people not believe when someone has a gun, they will use it?
01:12:46I have your wife and a gun, and I will use the gun again!
01:12:56Are you okay?
01:12:58The gun!
01:12:59Get the gun!
01:12:59Get the gun!
01:13:07No!
01:13:08Honey?
01:13:17Honey, you okay?
01:13:19Oh, God.
01:13:21Oh, fuck.
01:13:36Is he dead?
01:13:38I'm a writer now.
01:13:55A successful single writer.
01:13:58Eric and I tried to work it out.
01:14:00But it was obvious there was nothing left to work out.
01:14:03Of course, Griff wasn't dead.
01:14:04Two weeks ago, I heard that he'd escaped from the sanitarium.
01:14:09They told me that he said that he lived only for me.
01:14:11And it's funny, because I always envy that.
01:14:14I wish I felt that way about someone.
01:14:16Who knows, maybe someday I will.
01:14:20Great book.
01:14:23Thanks for coming.
01:14:32And yes, I am writing another one.
01:14:36This is exciting.
01:14:37The turnout is so great.
01:14:39I know.
01:14:39I'm so proud of you, Lizzie.
01:14:41I'll get you some water.
01:14:42Okay.
01:14:45Congratulations, Elizabeth.
01:14:46You've been able to satisfy a lot of people's fantasy.
01:14:49How's that?
01:14:52You shot the boss.
01:14:54Oh.
01:14:56I'd love to take you to dinner.
01:14:57I'm in town for a couple of days.
01:15:00I don't think so.
01:15:02This press tour, it's killing me.
01:15:06Thanks for the offer.
