00:00Israel is the new Jamaica, at least when it comes to Olympic bobsledding.
00:04Now, people of a certain age might remember the 88 Olympics when the Jamaican bobsled team,
00:09a team from a country known for sand, not snow, made history as the first Caribbean team to
00:14compete. People of a slightly different age will know that story as the plot of the movie Cool
00:19Runnings, which I highly recommend. All that brings us to Israel, where admittedly it does
00:24snow, but not often and not in many places. At any rate, for the 2026 Winter Games, Israel is
00:30getting a bobsled team. Now, the way Olympic qualifications work is confusing. It really
00:36merits a whole podcast episode on just that. But suffice it to say, the unlikely four-man team
00:42from Israel is headed to Italy in a few weeks for their own Cool Runnings story. The team captain,
00:48A.J. Edelman, posted on X in part, quote,
00:50For Israel, impossible is just something we do every day. And one of the teams they'll
00:55be competing against? Yep, Jamaica. They qualified again, too.
