00:00What did you think when you kind of first heard the idea and the concept and the film and all of that?
00:05I think it was just the fact that it was Greta Gerwig doing it and she was writing with Noah Baumbach.
00:10I was like, this is going to be, whatever this is, this is not what we expect from Barbie.
00:14And then I saw the script, I read the script, and I was like, whether I get to work on this or not,
00:20this is going to be my favorite movie, I'm sure, whenever it comes out.
00:22So we started working on the music for it and kind of led, one song led to two songs
00:30and led us just doing the whole music for the film and it's been, it sounds corny, but it's been a dream.
00:36And now to be here, it's in this pair and everything, yeah.
00:40You have a really amazing lineup of artists.
00:43How did you kind of decide who kind of fit the Barbie mold?
00:46I think we kind of came up with a real wish list to start with.
00:50It just seemed like a total pipe dream.
00:53Like, we're never going to get all these people with Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Charlie XCX, Billie Eilish.
00:58And then I think because of Greta's, like, credibility in her track record
01:02and people so interested in what she was doing, everybody said yes at least to come to the table.
01:07And then when they watched some of the film, everybody was just like, oh my God, I got it.
01:10I'm inspired.
01:11I know what to write here because we showed everyone very specific scenes.
01:14And it's just, it's just amazing, like, the wealth of artists and not just popular artists,
01:21but the people that, like, have the most heart, you know, and sentiment.
01:25Was there anyone that you wanted that just couldn't work out that you didn't get?
01:28I mean, there's always one or two, but, like, with the amount of people that we got to talk about,
01:32anybody that we didn't get would sound, like, very spoiled.
01:35And Ryan has some songs on this, too, right?
01:39What was that like working with him on music?
01:41I mean, it was incredible.
01:42You know, I wrote this, I came up with this little chorus of a song,
01:47I'm Just Can, Anywhere Else I'd Be a Ten, that I felt, like, encapsulated his journey a little.
01:52And I sent it to Greta and Noah, and they really liked it.
01:55And they're like, we played it for Noah, and he, sorry, we played it for Ryan,
01:59and he would like to sing it in the film.
02:01So it went amazing, from just writing a song to, like, all of a sudden it's in the movie,
02:05and just Ryan sing it, and he had such an incredible voice,
02:09and the way that he, like, sells the emotion of the song, and it was wonderful.
02:15I mean, it was literally one day of recording vocals, but he's just, he's a monster.
02:20And I'm sure you've seen this movie many times by now.
02:23What's your review of it?
02:25I mean, it's so great.
02:26I watched it so many times, and I never get sick of it,
02:28and it's not just because, you know, I worked on it.
02:31It's, like, the jokes, some of the jokes, like, I just fanned out over the,
02:35Arianna Greenblatt, who plays Sasha, because, like, I never met her before.
02:39And, like, there's jokes that she does that I've seen a thousand times,
02:41and I still laugh every time.
02:43And I'm really excited to see it in a room with people for the first time.
