00:01At last, after months of closure, the Rafah crossing, a lifeline for Gaza residents, is set to reopen.
00:09Israel's security cabinet has approved a new mechanism for operating the crossing with key conditions in place.
00:17Under the plan, only individuals will be allowed to exit Gaza and under specific regulations.
00:24Inspections will not be conducted directly by Israel. Instead, a European Union mission will carry out checks in coordination with teams from the Palestinian Authority, while Israel's role will be limited to remote monitoring.
00:40Regarding members of Hamas, Israeli media report that limited numbers may be permitted to leave, provided they are not suspected of involvement in military activities,
00:50along with certain family members subject to prior security assessments.
00:55As for entry from Egypt into Gaza, it will also be restricted, with small daily quotas and a two-stage process.
01:04First, an initial inspection by the EU mission, followed by an Israeli security screening inside an area under Israeli control.
01:13Arrivals will also require prior approval from Israel's Shin Bet security agency based on a security evaluation.
01:22So far, no final figures have been set for the number of people exiting or entering each day,
01:28but estimates suggest only a few hundred will be allowed during the initial phase.
01:33.
