00:00The European Commission has launched a formal investigation into GROK, the AI chatbot on Elon Musk's social media platform X,
00:09after its image editing function was widely used to virtually undress pictures of real women and underage girls without their consent.
00:17The probe will look at whether or not the social media platform did enough to mitigate the risk of the images being created and disseminated.
00:24If X is found to have breached EU online platform rules under the BLOCK's Digital Services Act,
00:31the Commission could fine the company up to 6% of its global annual turnover.
00:36Last December, the European Commission fined Elon Musk's social network 120 million euros over its account verification tick marks and advertising practices.
00:46In response to public outrage over the feature, X eventually implemented measures to prevent the explicit image generation of real people,
00:53remove the generated images of children from the platform and banned users involved in creating them.
00:59The Commission said it had sent a request for information under the Digital Services Act and that it is still analyzing the response.
