00:00We've seen Deegan have a war of words with a lot of rivals in the 250 class,
00:04but Anstey's a little bit different cut there.
00:06He's a lot older than some of those kids.
00:08So is it going to affect him in the same way if it gets to that?
00:11I personally don't believe so, and I think just because of the age difference there.
00:16I mean, listen, the guy's married.
00:18He's traveled the world.
00:19He's got a little kid.
00:20He's, what, 31, 32 years old.
00:22And, I mean, I think the older you get, the wiser you get,
00:26and he won't be flustered as much emotionally from that.
00:29And I expect him to just rebound and act like it never happened.
00:33Yeah, he told me yesterday, just watched a lot of Pixar movies with the kids.
00:36All the cars and Toy Story.
00:38That was what he was focused on with the kids this week.
00:40So it probably gives you an idea of that perspective that he has.
00:43It is only a one-point gap between the teammates after they've won the first two rounds.
00:48Deegan with a fourth at Anaheim 1 and Anstey with a fifth last week.
00:52So that's the one-point difference.
00:53Haimes, Moseman, it's early, are still very much in it.
00:57Moseman riding well as well.
00:59Yeah, he's had a great start to the season for sure.
01:02And what I love, he's had two great rides.
01:04And so long as he can keep it upright, I think he has a great opportunity to do well.
01:10He's been very competitive in years past when he's been healthy.
01:15So Monster Energy Yamaha star racing with three horses in this race.
01:20Also, shout-out to Avery Long, a second-year pro of that number 87.
01:24And Lux Turner, who wasn't even supposed to make it back for the beginning of the year, broke his wrist battling for the championship down in Australia in the offseason.
01:33Got back on the bike a few days for Anaheim 1.
01:36Made it into the show each time since.
01:38You wouldn't even realize how banged up he actually is.
01:41A couple of riders to watch.
01:42Hunter Yoder has been lightning fast this year, especially off the start of that number 60.
01:46And then there's Cameron McAdoo, the ever-gritty number 142, runner-up last week in San Diego.
01:52That's why you said track position is so important.
01:55So many guys can go fast.
01:56Well, and that's the thing.
01:57They get a good start just like Cam did last weekend, and he did well.
02:01I mean, same for Ryder DeFrancisco at the opening round.
02:06And they got the speed now.
02:07They're getting the starts.
02:08And really puts the pressure on guys like Hayden Deegan.
02:12Remember, he's needed to improve on those starts.
02:15A little bit better last week.
02:17See if he can do it again here this week.
02:20There we go.
02:21Heat race number two.
02:22250 West.
02:29And all three Yamahas into the first turn.
02:31It's Anstey controlling it.
02:33Oh, but to the inside is McAdoo on the 142.
02:36Yeah, those guys faded out just a bit.
02:38And that allowed the 142 of McAdoo to get there.
02:41But an incredible pass there by Max Dancy, the veteran.
02:45And he got shut down by Anstey and then Deegan.
02:48And he goes all the way back to about fifth place.
02:50And it's Yamaha 1-2-3 with Moseman second.
02:55Anstey fights back quickly to reclaim fourth.
03:00This is going to be an interesting situation right here to watch Hayden Deegan.
03:04And it's almost like a carbon copy of last week's main event.
03:08And mainly to see how, if Hayden's able to catch up, how does Max react?
03:15What is his approach?
03:17And what does the one of Hayden Deegan do?
03:19It's going to be a lot of fun to see how it plays out.
03:21Hey, I want to see RC with the 142 of McAdoo does.
03:23If he can get around Moseman here.
03:27And he's going for it.
03:28Almost off the track.
03:30Stays in it.
03:31Side by side for third.
03:32Ah, he was very nice to Moseman.
03:35Kind of expect that from Cameron McAdoo.
03:38Two veterans of the class.
03:40He definitely could have pushed it a little bit more and closed out Moseman.
03:44But, uh, great racing here early on by these two vets.
03:47Woo!
03:47Able to get on that table from the inside.
03:49McAdoo will never cheat you for effort.
03:52Watch the run that Cameron McAdoo will get in the whoops.
03:55Ah, he got, came out of that corner a little bit slower than the last lap.
03:58But this rhythm lane right here, you have to be able to go triple-triple after the whoops.
04:03Very difficult.
04:04Precision is going to be key.
04:07Yeah, McAdoo didn't get it.
04:08So that ends that battle for third for the moment.
04:10Focus back on the leaders.
04:1210, Deegan run down Anstey again.
04:14Oh, nice split lane there.
04:16Deegan electing to go to the inside.
04:19You go to the inside like that, you won't be able to triple that section like we saw in the first heat with Hymas and where Levi went down.
04:31And they were tripling and then doubling over the start here.
04:34That became the hotline in practice.
04:36It's like Deegan is inching up just a bit.
04:39Yeah, C.D. can go in a little bit lower in the corners, not using up so much track, especially in that right or that left-hander.
04:49Well, you remarked on the corner speed even when we watched it qualify.
04:52Yeah, in the rut corners, man.
04:54This guy, he just, he initiates his corners super early.
04:59Gets in that rut, just lays that bike over.
05:02Carries a lot of center speed, center corner speed, apex speed.
05:06And it has almost brought him to the rear tire of Anstey.
05:09It is on for the lead.
05:10Oh, this is good.
05:12Yeah, this is what we're going to see.
05:14How do these guys react?
05:16Side by side.
05:18And Deegan immediately rips the lead away.
05:20No contest whatsoever.
05:28Perfect pass by Hayden Deegan.
05:29Goes around to the outside and he took the inside the lap previous.
05:34Did he change it because he knew that was faster or is that just where he had an opening to pass?
05:40Well, I think when you watch Hayden Deegan, rarely does he follow.
05:44Yeah.
05:44That's one of the strong qualities that he has as a racer.
05:48He doesn't ride anyone else's line.
05:52Man, he is super aggressive right now through that rhythm.
05:54Yeah, I think he wants to send another message, but watch right here.
05:58He's going to throw an audible.
06:00Max blocks the inside, so he's like, all right, no problem.
06:03Going to go to the outside.
06:05Stands up, doesn't seat bounce at.
06:07Actually drives through faster when you don't seat bounce.
06:10And, man, he just checks out.
06:13And continuing to check out now.
06:14And he went back.
06:15Yeah, it goes back to the inside.
06:17So he must believe that that inside at this moment is faster.
06:21JT.
06:22Well, Rick, you mentioned Hayden kind of trying to check out here.
06:25And that's, you know, such the trademark of champions like Hayden, who understand these situations, makes a little mistake there.
06:31But you'll see these guys, once they make the move, especially when you're trying to get away from a guy who maybe has one, maybe he owes you one like Max Anstity does, he's going to try to end it right there.
06:42He's going to put in his best sprint lap, that lap, and the lap after to break the spirit of Max Anstity.
06:48And in all uncertain terms, the race essentially ends right there.
06:52If Hayden Deegan can build a lead, Max Anstity goes from, I'm going to try to get back into this race and win, to settling for second.
06:58And that is what Hayden Deegan is so proficient at, is ending the race long before the checkered flag flies.
07:04Well, and the one, you're exactly right.
07:06The one thing, if I'm Hayden Deegan, I want to use this opportunity to look where Hayden is making up the time on me.
07:14Where can I be better, and how can I make that adjustment in that main event?
07:18So there is some upside here for Max.
07:21This battle back here, RC, is for that transfer spot.
07:24So Avery Long on the orange 57 just got it.
07:27But the Frenchman, Anthony Burden, is going to get it back.
07:32And side by side again.
07:35And Long now back to that all-important ninth place spot.
07:39Ah, such a tough position to be in.
07:41Long riding extremely well.
07:43But he's got to ride defensive as well to protect that position.
07:49Most guys going to the inside now.
07:52Oh, Burden not going to let him off the hook.
07:54This again is for the last transfer spot into the main.
07:56If you're Burden, you have to go for it right here.
08:00It's 27 seconds plus one lap left in this race.
08:06Starting to pull a little gap from the riders behind them.
08:0911th and 12th place.
08:12And Long, rider out of Minnesota, just able to put a few bike lengths between himself and the Frenchman.
08:19Up ahead is Josh Fariz.
08:21Yeah.
08:22If Long's able to open up a little bit of gap, that'll definitely take some pressure off.
08:27It's going to be key for him to try to get through these whoops.
08:30Maybe go triple-triple on this technical section that we talked about.
08:33No, he's not able to do that.
08:35Neither is Burden, though.
08:37So, no harm, no foul.
08:39Yeah, he's starting to get a little gap here.
08:41Get some breathing room.
08:42That'll take the pressure off.
08:43Now he'll be able to hit his regular lines.
08:45Won't have to ride so defensive.
08:49Well, up front is the same order of Heat 2 last week.
08:53The three Yamahas of Deegan, Anstey, and Mosman.
08:57Deegan has won, if he holds on for this, a Heat race in all three races this year with about a lap and a half to go.
09:04Yoder has been riding very well behind that lead group.
09:07There he is in the Club of Exeter, number 60.
09:10Had some knee injuries right before the season.
09:13Finally got back on the bike during the week.
09:15But on the race weekends, he's been riding incredibly well, showing speed, even with a meniscus injury.
09:22Yeah, and I think some of that not only is from the team, but also working with a guy like Chad Reed.
09:28I mean, think of, you know, how decorated he is as a supercross racer, racer in general.
09:35And that knowledge is just invaluable.
09:37And I think this is a reflection of that as well.
09:40Go back to Deegan there.
09:42It was interesting.
09:43Last week, Reed, in an interview with Pulp of Exeter, I'm teaching these guys, you know, it's not about winning right now.
09:49It's about slowly building.
09:50And he said, for me to say those words, when Chad was either, you know, winning was the only acceptable result.
09:56Even he's had to adjust with some of these younger riders with Pulp of Ex.
10:01Also got Doc McGinley over there helping with that injury recovery.
10:03No such recovery needed for Hayden Deegan and no lessons on how to win races either.
10:08He just keeps rolling.
10:11One turn to go for Danger Boy.
10:14It's going to be three for three on the year with Heat Race wins.
10:18Hayden Deegan.
10:20He won at Anaheim.
10:21And there's Anaheim's second.
10:27And again, same order, top three as Heat 2 last week.
10:33Talk to Hayden about the heat rate, Reed, when we return.
