00:00Troy's been bugging me about his final payment there on Lightning Creek and I
00:24got a hundred ounce of gold in a jar so I'm gonna go pay it to him right now and
00:29kind of get him off my back 44 year old Rick Ness is betting on himself he's
00:37purchasing his second gold mine Lightning Creek expanding his Kino Empire to 3600
00:45acres of ground I would try good to see what's going on yeah I brought you some
00:54gold you know I wasn't trying to jerk you around or nothing so there's a there's a
00:57hundred ounces in there yeah I'm assuming there's a hundred ounces in here I'll go
01:04away as soon as you oh yeah yeah I know I know I know yeah I know there's a hundred
01:07ounces in there yeah and you know with today's gold prices that's a chunk so
01:10yeah yeah it's looking good yeah this is the final payment you're on your way so
01:14you're off to the races so good luck all right good business as always okay
01:18that's good to have that off my back I always like paying off debts Lightning
01:22Creek we haven't made it we haven't made it pay off yet but I know we will it's a
01:26it's an asset for the future and it's an option so it's a good day
01:29for now Rick's new claim is an insurance policy for the foreseeable future he's focusing his
01:42operation on Vegas Valley a spot that paid out nearly 800 ounces last year but his water license
01:50expires in just four months I just really got to hope that we had our $1,800 goal for running what's
01:58left of you know last year's stock pop I know there's a lot of gold there because we need a lot
02:02after I spent all that money good news though is that we got the Vegas Valley water license extended
02:07this year it came out of nowhere um but uh but I'll take it you know right back where we want to be we
02:12know the gold's there but at the end of the day it's only good till November uh so we really got to get as
02:17much gold out of out of Vegas Valley as we can because we don't don't know if we'll be able to
02:20come back got this Vegas Valley stockpile probably 300 ounces in in this pay pile but we're burning
02:36through it pretty quick Rick's crew are running a leftover pay pile from last year and now have to
02:44get back on pay dirt at the bottom of the cut well I don't really want to shut monster red down now
02:49that we're getting the gold so I I'm gonna go down and talk to Bailey we just need to get to the bottom
02:53of Vegas Valley ASAP
02:56what's going on I don't know if you've seen the pay pile but it's going fast and I it always does a week
03:13max is what we've got to run through the plant you know and it might might be only five or six days with
03:19the late start that we're getting it's pretty important that we keep that plan around so um you
03:22know I know I hear that in the spring you did you know you did a good job at Lightning Creek you open
03:26that up quick and so I I need you to do the same thing right get back into Vegas Valley open her up
03:30and just do what you do is it realistic to think that you could get pay up there before that pile's gone
03:35I think we can do it build a new road yeah we should be able to for sure that's uh I mean that's
03:45that's what I want to hear if we need another road you can work on that yeah okay you got a week
03:50all right let's burn some some teeth good man
03:54last year Rick's crew moved a mountain to open up Vegas Valley digging down 160 feet
04:05they removed more than 1 million yards of dirt before they hit pay over winter Vegas Valley flooded
04:14Rick has drained the water but the road into the cut has washed away
04:20now to get back down to the pay layer Bailey must build a new 500 foot road down to the bottom of
04:27the cut and start pulling pay before monster red runs out of its stockpile to get the job done in a
04:38a week Bailey needs all three of Rick's working rock trucks
04:42hey Ryan you got a copy you want to come over here and take a look at this rock truck it's uh it won't even turn
05:02over yep give me a couple I'll be over sounds good thanks all the lights turn on everything and you
05:13go to start it and don't even turn over all right Kai we'll do some tests on it we'll get it figured out
05:18thank Ryan's here I'm gonna hop in this truck and while he's fixing that one so that we can keep the
05:25trucks are on until Ryan can fix the problem Rick's down to just two rock trucks you know it's on me but
05:46it's on the rock truck drivers too they got to move the material just as quick as I got to you know load
05:51them
05:58oh for sake now what did you do we'll shut the truck off your hydraulic tank just fell off
06:25not a good day to be a rock truck after a second rock truck craps out Bailey's left with just one
06:34truck to build the road I'm just sitting here burning fuel his hopes of finishing the Vegas
06:41Valley Road before they run out of pay are getting slimmer by the hour dude that's bad yeah it's bad
06:49he's lucky those six bolts up there holding otherwise he would have just ran the tank over
06:53it would have been bad here's your three bolts right here somehow every one of those sheared off
07:00I don't think it's driver abuse by any means I just think either these were coming loose and once one
07:09came loose the other started moving loose original trucks I started with seven years ago I don't see
07:18any damage tanks fine but I don't recommend we run it it's just another hit it's not good we got rock
07:26trucks down we got a hell of a lot of dirt to move out of Vegas Valley so hopefully right get it fixed
07:31quick and you back to business my goal this season I was going for about six and a half thousand ounces things are
07:57actually going really well we're really banging off the hours and we're really on the yardage and we're
08:03getting quite a few ounces of gold out of the ground midway through his season the king of the Klondike
08:09has already banked half his season target 11 million dollars worth of gold Indian River we got two boxes
08:21going going running 24 hours a day we are almost finished losing pay out of the river cut so I need
08:27the corner cut opened up Tony's tearing through his Indian River claim which has delivered a thousand
08:35ounces more gold than this time last season to keep up momentum he's now opening the corner cut which he
08:44believes holds up to 20 million dollars worth of gold the corner cut in the Indian right now is a big cut
08:53I don't think I've ever had one this big obviously this thing is three full claims right now we're doing
09:00a lot of stripping and right now it takes too long to load a truck so we got to fix that up Tony's in a rush
09:08to get down to pay dirt because at the river cut his double wash plant setup is churning through pay at
09:15record speed if the river cut is done before he's pulling pay from the corner cut Tony will have to
09:23shut down the speed things up down there now we take the biggest accident we've got the 950 bring it
09:31through the Indian River and with a 950 it takes less than a minute to load a rock truck but the other
09:38ones it takes two bigger hole double production pretty simple there's just one problem the 950 is
09:47currently at Paradise Hill being used by son Mike's crew Michael D copy Michael D copy
09:56that 950 is a beautiful piece of equipment I'm actually very angry about this because the 950 is a
10:09bulk hauler I was hoping to get loose but that's not going to happen this is more wasted time
10:14Mike is whining because I steal all his equipment I need that excavator he's losing out on that one
10:22to hold the 950 40 miles from Paradise Hill to the Indian River Tony's crew need to first remove the
10:31boom and stick then load them along with the body onto two heavy-duty low boys now we're pulling the main
10:44stick pin out and then all the weights off that we'll be able to flip the boom up swing it around and pull
10:51the next piece give her a good pull went out of alignment there a little bit hey no bucket don't do
11:11that just back up just ask you guys to get out of the way because it might break here stand back
11:22oh the excavators shifted a little bit and that pinched on the pin so I think the press might be
11:32the option for this so I'll hang this thing from my crane and I can pressure this up with the hydraulic
11:39pump and it's got quite a bit of force to help pull that pin out I'm gonna be irritated by it
11:47taking this long but nothing I can do to change that we've broken it loose there where it was pinched up
12:03so we're just going to give it a try with the loader speed things up
12:21lift the boom out of its place set it down walk the 950 on the trailer and away it goes
12:27when Tony's around it definitely kicks everybody into gear it's uh you don't want to be standing
12:36around with your hands in your pockets when Tony's around here as I'm standing around my hands in my
12:42pockets looks like the boys did a good job now we'll load up the body put it on the rail and then down the
12:50road we go after losing 16 tons removing the stick and boom the 950s body still weighs 84 tons a regular
13:01trailer you just walk it on chain it down and away it goes this one you got a block up underneath the
13:05excavator and then lift up the trailer and then pray that it lifts up the hole high enough to drive it
13:10Darren is gonna take the mainframe and I'll take this one
13:16let's get the thing out of here
13:20Tony sets off first transporting the boom and stick
13:30Darren follows behind with the body of the 950
13:39got a little late but that's okay
13:45got a little late enough what they say right well we'll get it there and then we'll put it together
13:51yeah let's just go with the warp
13:54hey Darren D copy Darren D copy
14:19Tony beats is hauling his 950 excavator from Paradise Hill
14:49to Indian River to Indian River but 20 miles out he's lost contact with driver Darren
14:55sometimes you get higher up a bit more of a straight line sometimes you get lucky that you can reach them
15:06I gotta have a look see what's happening
15:12I wonder if I should ask these people to drive me down the hill so I can have a look at what you got
15:29let's see what he's got
15:39Tony's only option walk the excavator which has a painfully
16:08a slow top speed of 2.7 miles an hour the 20 miles to Indian River delaying his plan to get to pay in the corner cut
16:15start walking sometimes you just have no choice
16:22Tyson was gonna pull a stripping crew out of the bridge cut to come do fine tannings and I was like man just throw me in a hole and I'll buy you a couple shifts
16:29Parker Schnabel is back in the saddle with his eyes on a 10,000 ounce 35 million dollar prize
16:36I still enjoy getting in machinery but I just don't have the time to do it anymore
16:43but I just don't have the time to do it anymore
16:45my job has changed massively
16:49it's important that I do what I think is the most critical issue at hand and it's just that the size the company is now it's that never is like oh I need to be in that piece of equipment doing that job
16:56Midway through the season, Parker is closing in on 5000 ounces, half the
17:245 000 ounces half his season goal the biggest issue that we're going to have i think which
17:32is the only thing i'm really worried about is having enough sluicing capacity there's a lot
17:37of sluicing left to do for the first time ever parker is running four wash plants big red sluice
17:47of her and bob at dominion creek while roxanne works at ken and stewart's on the indian river
17:54where parker needs to produce 2 000 ounces a fifth of his season goal at the indian river there's
18:02definitely you know a massive amount of dirt moving that needs to happen if we don't focus on that we
18:11don't meet the target foreman mitch blasky is away for the next two days
18:23so it's all on acting foreman brennan ruo to keep the gold rolling in at indian river
18:31we're trying to get him a massive pay pile so that way we have time to take care of other things
18:37so the work does never stop so we got to keep everything rolling down here as efficient as
18:41possible we just got to keep this plant running we've got a lot of pay to chew through here and
18:50as long as we keep it going we'll all have nice happy bonuses at the end of the year
19:08why isn't that shaker deck going
19:21brennan got a coffee hey buddy what's going on hey man the shaker deck just stopped going
19:40you've got to be joking me jenny's on breaker's on nothing happens okay buddy i'll get us some
19:49mechanics as quick as they can
19:51i do not want to see that plant down um we have way too much ground to get through here they need to
20:02be down here to make any pay pile brennan calls in father and son mechanics bill horton and justin
20:11andresen to investigate the breakdown the overload protection is shutting it down why we're not sure
20:18yet so um we got to just start testing wires and find out uh if there's an overload on a certain wire
20:26uh certain leg lost the check
20:32we went through all the wiring we pulled a lot of the connections apart put them back together
20:38okay just let's give her a whirl maybe we'll put these covers back on and we'll try some dirt through
20:43it okay ready okay yeah bill tests the flow of electricity measured in amps driving the shaker
20:57motor well right now she's shaking so uh the amperage is a little bit higher than we wanted
21:05we're at 42 43 range we only really want to be at 35
21:17right now everything is running
21:21i'm pretty happy right now so i'm just hoping this happiness can last all day
21:27i think we finally found the cause of the problem
21:45okay you're good you're good you're good we have a hole right through dirt's been in there quite a while
21:50so those bearings will be toast pull up and pull the shaft out it's sick
21:55rock sand shaker deck gets its rocking motion from a rotating shaft inside a metal cylinder
22:03with counterweights at each end bearings reduce friction as the shaft spins over time a rock has
22:13worked its way under a guard plate and after years of vibrating in the same spot the rock
22:19has worn a hole into the cylinder letting in water and dirt partially seizing the bearings to fix the
22:27problem the bearings have to be removed the shaft pulled out the hole welded shut the shaft reinserted
22:37and new bearings fitted before it can be fired up and starts loosing again Bill and Justin begin by
22:47removing the bearings glad my knee wasn't under that there's brass in the water oh yeah bearings
22:57are done you want to swing it out and I'll wind it down okay okay ready mm-hmm the process is repeated
23:12on the other side and we got it next they pull out the 2,000 pound shaft you're gonna pick now so go ahead
23:24there we go buddy we get a shaft out on the ground every hour the plant is down Parker is losing over
23:42four thousand dollars in gold production we got a lot of work ahead of us right now and we really don't
23:49have time for it any downtime is gonna kill us right now you know and that's what scared me hopefully
23:55we'll have it fixed so when Mitch is back we're running full kill downtime is the biggest killer this
24:01time of year we're running what's left of stockpile from last season it's nice that we had that but
24:20it's gonna run out soon Rick Ness is chasing a potential 1 million dollar payout from a stockpile
24:27while his crew race to get to pay at the bottom of Vegas Valley before it runs out the linchpin in
24:36the plan rebuilding the road that descends 50 feet into the pit I made a promise for it that I can do
24:43this road and trying to get down here as quick as we can and I'm worried that we're not gonna make it
24:46down the pay and you know they're gonna run out of pay before I can get there with just one rock truck
24:52at his disposal Bailey's chances of getting the job done are slim you know right now with no trucks
25:00it's not helping us get down there now it's crunch time and we need to get moving and I don't want to
25:05fail Rick I just went to go start his truck and said everything powers up but when he turns ignition
25:13he's got nothing mechanic Ryan has been struggling to get two downed trucks back up and running and has
25:21finally made a breakthrough basically what somebody's done here is they have spliced the igniter wires on
25:31the relay together basically what that igniter wire does it sends a signal down to the relay on the starter
25:37and tells the starter hey it's time to engage it looks like somebody's put in a couple splices cut the
25:42wires off and decided that was gonna be an easy fix so what we'll do is fix their splice and see if it
25:52starts no big deal okay halfway there we'll get the wire fixed this truck fires up looks like we're
26:12got our hands full at the next one though this tank right here is hydraulic and then brake fluid the
26:22three mounting bolts right up top have completely sheared off years of abuse the bolts you know a
26:29little sit there and wear and wear and wear and eventually you hit one good bump and there's plenty
26:33of them out here and now that tank is down so I'm gonna need to lift this up and press it in try to get my
26:40main spacers and bolts put in up here that connect to the frame once we get this up and in position
26:44with three bolts in all the other equipment is way up on hill so no need to bring more manpower down
26:54here I'll just try to winger I'm the only mechanic on the crew it's a lot of stress what a brace I think it
27:04might work this one's it done that's good all right that's it everything's bolted down this truck's ready
27:14to hit back on that monster cut Bailey got a copy yeah hey man good news we got that hydraulic tank remounted up
27:23so it's gonna be another truck in your rotation yeah Ryan that's great man I'll be able to finish this
27:28off a lot quicker now all three trucks now back in the field Bailey has a fighting chance of finishing
27:36the road before the stockpiled pay runs out
27:42hey Rick you got a copy yeah we're uh we're almost out of pay here is that all the pay that's left right
27:58there that little pile probably five more buckets not even I was gonna open your hide somewhere else
28:04or something you're gonna make a decision here and uh figure out what what the hell we're gonna do we
28:10need some pay up here pretty soon or uh we're gonna be shutting down the plant
28:15we're gonna do it we're gonna do it we're gonna do it we're gonna do it we're gonna do it well
28:20this is gonna take a lot longer than expected and the trucks being uh broken down it's way too much
28:26work down here that's great that's it didn't make it we didn't want to have to shut it down but uh
28:37that's where we're at we're out of pay right now with only 190 ounces so far this year Rick's forced
28:47to shut down while the crew continue to build the road get the bypass and pray the stockpile pays
28:55out big enough to keep it in business that's not a good feeling shut down monster red this time of
29:03year especially when we don't know when the next round of pay is coming we got a lot of a lot of work
29:07to do to get the 1,800 ounces today now
29:08so when do you think that 950 will come in have you heard yet
29:31need it today at Indian River Tony Beat's crew are in desperate need of the monster 950 to help strip the
29:42corner cut it's been a long and slow journey to get this to the Indian River into his eighth hour
29:51driving the 950 to Indian River after the low boy carrying it broke down Tony's grandson 18-year-old Egan
30:01it's nice to be getting involved with it all it's my fifth year running equipment can run a little bit
30:08kind of everything mostly excavator though morning again morning how are you today good are you ready
30:18to go to work sure since the age of 13 Egan has learned the ropes running machinery under Tony's watch if
30:29you like this kind of stuff yeah someday you might be a gold miner too is the youngest operator we got and
30:38he's near the best operator on an excavator we have it's kind of nice to see a third generation miner that's
30:45something to be proud of I think before he can deliver the 950 to Indian River Egan has one final
30:53obstacle looks like we're catching up the Egan so you made it again yeah long slow drive anyway
31:04Creek is over there just drive right through it and we'll see you in camp in a bit what do you think
31:10he does never cross the river
31:20you don't stop you gotta keep on going because otherwise you don't get stuck
31:28you don't stop you gotta keep on going
31:39Tony beats grandson Egan is almost done with his epic 10-hour journey to deliver the family's 950
31:48excavator to the corner cut on the Indian River
31:52we'll get it there eventually slow and steady
32:08yeah Egan driver up he can driver up keep her coming
32:26the young fella did pretty damn good
32:35that'd be good leave it right there Egan that'd be good good job took a while huh yeah it's the most boring
32:47this job you probably had in a while yeah perfect let's go
32:51now two days behind schedule Tony needs the 950 reassembled and in the corner cut fast it's here put the
33:04name together ready to go finally the 950 arrived from Paradise Hill Tony said to put it together as fast as possible because with a lot of trouble to get it over here
33:14this piece is just shy 21,000 pounds
33:21this piece is just shy 21,000 pounds
33:25just a tiny bit more whoa that's good there she is all the way home
33:42someday everybody goes lucky yeah yeah the boom is connected so now we're gonna connect this thing
33:50yeah yeah it's ready
34:01oh yeah oh yeah yeah that's her there we go
34:07for the last step Tony and Egan attached the 10-yard bucket
34:16I'm six feet six so you can see how big it is
34:20and not really but that's what the girls like isn't it
34:26well the 950's got a 10-yard bucket on it so that is our biggest one three buckets so you got a truck full
34:33so Egan is a pretty good operator hold it right there put your boom down perfect almost get hold it right there
34:43anyway that bucket went on good huh yeah piece of cake now here the hooker in there bingo done
34:53so the bucket is on take it in the cat and then we'll just start loading some trucks with it
35:01so let's see how many buckets it takes versus the 349 I mean by the time I drop three buckets in this 40 ton truck and the truck is full
35:13so you should be able to load this truck by how many a minute instead of two minutes to load the truck
35:19off you go done
35:21Tony's race to open the corner cut is now in overdrive that should speed things up now you're moving some dirt
35:33things have been going really good down here at Kennan Stewart's you know Parker has big goals for this season there's just a lot of sluicing that's got to happen if we're going to get all this done in time
35:40at Parker Schnabel's Indian River claim Foreman Mitch Blaschke is back from a couple of days away
35:55why aren't we sluicing
35:57this done in time at parker schnabel's indian river claim foreman mitch blasky is back from
36:05a couple of days away why aren't we sluicing to discover roxanne isn't sluicing thanks to its
36:14bearings failing well buddy that's not the way we want to see a wash plant not the way i wanted you
36:19to come back either and i leave for two days to go see the family and uh come back and you got a
36:25broken wash plant i know we just need to try and get everything set up the best we can so once we
36:30start this thing we can just get rolling why'd you break it wasn't me buddy how do you like it
36:40we got our bearing housings all ready and then hopefully they're going to drop right in having
36:45removed the shaft from roxanne mechanics bill and justin turned to fitting the new bearings into the
36:52housing when they stick it is a major uh catastrophe but there's an issue the bearings are about one
37:00thousandth of an inch larger than the housing and won't slide into place let's do this
37:11it's gonna be hot to make them fit bill and justin first freeze the bearings shrinking them in size
37:19before heating the housing to 450 degrees you heat up your housing which will make it expand
37:27and then you cool your bearing which will make it contract and doing that you can buy yourself
37:31enough space to drop this in you've got about 15 to 20 seconds to try and get that bearing in
37:40before it starts to warm up and expand it is a one-shot deal it's always stress because a one wrong move
37:48will cost us a five thousand dollar bearing if this doesn't work roxanne could be out of action
37:55for weeks and cost parker millions in lost gold yeah we're almost there okay i'll shut this one off
38:04up you can keep that one going
38:17there we go
38:34there's one little buddy this one is successful
38:38and that's how we like to do them now you can see it thawing
38:46one more
38:55you know out of all the years we've been doing this this is probably one of the biggest breakdowns we've
39:24ever had on a wash plant and you know it's taken a lot of time here to pull this thing apart fix it get
39:30it all back together the bearing is uh seated safely tarp's coming off the big question is uh how's
39:40how's she gonna shake she's all you i have to do the honors you can here we go
39:53sounds good sounds good sounds nice and quiet now this wash plant is ready to go
39:59the shaker deck looks great and sluice runs are running really nice here so i think roxanne is back
40:13as good as new and uh we got ourselves a mount of painter time to get through it turn into some gold
40:18make up for some lost time after two days down and losing over two hundred thousand dollars in
40:25production roxanne's back in the game and can keep delivering for this week's gold wave
40:35nice job man
40:47how's four wash plants treating you chris oh it's a little bit hectic
40:52i'm curious to what it's going to be like when you get a full week's run with no breakdowns dude
40:59yeah i can't leave you alone for five minutes my toes still black from that rock you threw at it
41:07surprisingly that's the first time we've had any sort of problem like that in
41:1213 years that was definitely one of the biggest we are very fortunate to have really good mechanics
41:18here yeah well it sounds like you guys had all the fun we needed for the week because things up here

42:37ounces less than last week's haul last week we had 669.85 ounces significant drop yeah but season total
42:48though is 5350.25 wow so we broke the halfway mark that's good we're up and running yeah it's just
42:58gonna be nice to get four plants yeah going full time which is gonna be hard to do you know we won't
43:05leave brennan home alone anymore yeah all right thanks guys good job you guys let's double this next week
43:12okay sounds good how we're gonna manage to have as much up time as we can with this many wash plants
43:20running um you know that's going to determine our gold total at the end of the year because we have
43:25tons of ground open so the whole name of the game is keeping wash plants running and this week is a pretty
43:31um poor example of that but um but i don't think it's you know i don't think it's like a systematic issue
43:38on our part um i think we'll be able to keep things running we'll see
43:51hello ready yeah we're ready how are you guys ready
43:59the 950 finally got here well that long walk let's put that away it was egan that walked it
44:05a little is pretty good yet too my dream is to see all my kids operate on one big line
44:12you got problems lady okay monica can you bring any gold

45:27his total to 3939 ounces that's a lot of bucks today i don't have no problems getting rid of it
45:37when's the last time you got a new shirt this morning i think everybody should go back to work
45:42i think i'm gonna have a nap you go for it
45:55that pay pile is huge yeah it was rick thought 400 ounces was gonna come out of that pay pile so
46:00you know we only got 110 ounces last week but maybe we'll get a little bit more this week so bailey how
46:06did you do with getting pay this week there is no pay this week because someone had to keep
46:12breaking trucks so i couldn't reach my goal you have one job it's to drive trucks not break them it
46:17was a task that you know i thought i could accomplish but at the end of the day there's a lot more
46:21material there than i expected you can see oh you guys are cozy what's going on rick snuggled right in
46:28after pivoting back to vegas valley rick's eager to find out how much gold was left in the pay pile
46:36from last season so the nice thing is that it did not quite fit in the one flask so there's 100
46:41ounces there and we got a bunch in here here we go
46:5110 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 we're at 110 120

47:24that's way better one week that's good that's it's shy of 400 but not by much no rick's season total is
47:32now 437 ounces you've obviously proven that there's gold in the bottom of that hole
