00:00Dexter Henry here along with Jared Schwartz we're going to talk some Knicks hoops and Jared you were
00:04at the Knicks presser today after practice this coming after Knicks had the biggest winning
00:09franchise history we were there the other night for that we saw that against the Brooklyn Nets
00:13and so the vibes for at least one game have been good but news coming today because Josh Hart
00:19was asked about Cat's role in the offense and defense he was asked this by Christian Winfield
00:26of the New York Daily News and he had a response that some Knicks fans you know took a little bit
00:31strongly I've seen some of the chatter on social media what did you make of Hart's response you
00:35were there and do you think this is this means anything is it much ado about nothing what did
00:41you make of what Josh Hart had to say I didn't a Dexter I didn't think it was a big deal um you
00:47know this this came after we asked as Mike Brown before that um you know they've said all season
00:52long Cat has the biggest adjustment in in this in Brown's system Mike Brown has said that Carl
00:58Anthony Towns has said that and they've said it over and over and over again um so we want you
01:02know and he during this downturn when they lost 9 of 11 games you know kind of before the Brooklyn
01:07game Towns was not playing well he was not shooting well he looked lost in the offense um when Brunson
01:12was out he wasn't exactly carrying the scoring load on his shoulders um so we asked him again you
01:18know uh how is he adjusting to it and and um Brown said he's getting more comfortable but I've also
01:25had to make adjustments to get him more comfortable you know I've had to change things to play Kong
01:30change things um with the action certain actions we do I'm trying to get him the ball faster trying
01:35to get him open looks faster um you know so then it was kind of posed to Josh who is a facilitator in
01:40this offense yep and um you know he he I think the point he was really making was um you know there's a
01:47there's a medium between player adjusting to coach and coach adjusting to player um and then his
01:52point was more I'm more worried about our defense than our offense you know Towns is going to get
01:57his points he's going to um figure out a way on offensively I'm more worried about about his
02:03defense and then he had the line at the end where he said you know I'm not worried about how many
02:06shots he gets I'm more worried about how many blocks he gets and that's you know Josh being Josh he's
02:10he's always making a joke um you know I think fans uh reacted to that and said that you know
02:16hardest calling him out I don't think that's happening I think he's just saying that you
02:20know the defense is more important and more of an issue for the the offense more more an issue for
02:25the for the Knicks right now than Towns on offense right and then when you looked at the numbers of
02:30the Knicks in the stretch Jared right when they were two and nine the defense was terrible we do we
02:35just did a show the other day about the reasons the Knicks stunk during that stretch and that was at
02:39the top of the list 29th in the league in defense that's not really good I looked at Josh Hart
02:45making those comments and felt it was warranted based on what we had seen of this next team over
02:52the past month or so and I felt it was fair for him to call out the defense which look the defense
02:57looked good the other night it was the Nets but it but it looked good when you take all that into
03:01the context you don't take it you don't have a problem with what Josh Hart said saying that the
03:06defense has to be better that's everybody including Kat um you know the one thing the funny thing about
03:11the Nets game is their net rating is gonna drastically increase drastically drastically
03:17improve just from that one game right just from that one game right and now we'll see a good test
03:23tomorrow with with Maxie and Edgecombe um to an explosive backcourt that the Knicks have really
03:28struggled with and the two losses they've had to the 76 or some but no I didn't have any problem
03:32with Hart doing that I don't think he was calling anybody out um the one thing that I thought was
03:37strange was it was it was a last week or a couple games ago against the Warriors when we all saw
03:42Draymond Green grab Carl Anthony Townsend's leg um and drag him down got a flagrant foul um nobody got
03:48in his face you know nobody said anything to him um they hugged him after the game coach Mike Brown
03:54hugged him after the game and um I thought that was weird you know I think there is a place to get in
04:00someone's face I'm not saying punch him but you know I think there's a place to back up your star and
04:05the weirdest thing I thought about that was was Mike Brown was asked about the play after the game
04:10and and you know he obviously coached Draymond Green with the Warriors when he was an assistant there
04:14and I thought it was weird because he said that play didn't bother me that's Draymond being Draymond
04:19what bothered me was Cat picking up his fifth foul and you know that really affected us and I thought
04:24that was weird because not only did he not just say that play bothered him but then he's going out
04:29he's going out of his way to single towns out and um I think there's a time and place where
04:34sometimes you got to look at your star and say I'm just going to have his back publicly I'm just
04:37going to say like that's a dirty play we should be better um and I asked Brown about it actually um
04:43earlier this week you know I said were you happy with the response of your team um you know your
04:49star player was kind of you know part was was was a dirty play happened to him and there's also a guy
04:56in Draymond Green who has said a lot of bad things about towns on his podcast um if you recall last year
05:02he accused towns of sitting at a game against um you know because he said he didn't want to go up
05:07against Jimmy Butler it turned out towns was actually going to a funeral um after the game
05:12against the Warriors uh Draymond Green made fun of his voice and then he called him soft um so you
05:17know this is not a guy it's not just a play uh Draymond goes out of his way to to kind of chirp
05:23towns and and I asked you know Brown about this is there a time when you got to have your stars back
05:28he said first of all I don't listen to podcasts uh I don't listen to Draymond's podcast but um he
05:33said yeah you know we never want um opponents to think they can do what they want with us physically
05:37but you also don't want to get yourself taken out of the game and get a flagrant and then
05:41um let that affect you and I thought that was fine but um I just thought you know in in recent years
05:48that have you know what Isaiah Hardenstein have gotten in Draymond's face with Dante DiVincenzo
05:53have gotten in Draymond's face would even Precious Achua last year have gotten in Draymond's face
05:58probably yes and the Knicks don't have the Knicks right now don't have anybody to go and get in
06:04someone's face I do think I love that we're having this discussion because I do think there's something
06:09to what you said right that nobody's fighting we know this in the NBA it's too risky Mike Brown
06:13makes that point he's right right you don't want to get a flagrant you don't want to get suspended
06:17it's it's too risky we know nobody's fighting is there something to stand up for guys yes I
06:22personally personally think there is you just spoke to you mentioned a couple of players you
06:27mentioned Isaiah Hardenstein Jared you also mentioned Dante DiVincenzo and there's a thing
06:31that I've you know doing the show and talking to members of the fan base people have such an
06:37attachment to that 23-24 team right and sometimes fans feel like a little bit of that is missing
06:42just I don't know if you want to call it edge I I don't like I talked about this on the recent
06:46episode of God Game I don't like calling players soft I'm not going to do that I don't think
06:51you're soft when you're the Knicks when you've come back and won games like they have this year
06:54but it does seem like they're lacking a bit of physicality right I think that would be a fair
06:59word to say a little bite um I don't think it's not that they want to fight back and do you think
07:05especially with I guess this is where we could wrap on this too with all these comments and we're
07:10hearing this and people reacting to this and this might be some of why Jared do you think this team
07:14needs some to take your word bite as we're approaching the trade deadline is that something
07:18that should be infused into this Knicks roster you know I think sometimes we look at you know
07:23changes in teams and you know on paper and on the box score like you know on paper going from
07:28Precious Achua and campaign to Clarkson and Yabu Saleh like those were guys who maybe have more NBA
07:33acumen and and could help more um and you don't think about some of the intangible stuff you know the
07:39stuff in the locker room the stuff um that you can't quantify on the box score you know you know
07:46Precious Achua is not exactly you know I don't think Knicks fans are staying up and I'd think
07:52oh you know oh my god we we let Precious Achua go but he's he was a tough player who
07:56brought some physicality and liked to bang bodies and brought some of that bite that you know we're
08:02talking about and um you know going from him to Yabu Saleh I think had an effect beyond just the box
08:08score you know it's it's a little bit of a bite you know it reminds me almost you know obviously not to
08:12the same degree but when the Giants decided to let Saquon Barkley go like they looked at they just
08:18looked at the his stats and they said you know a running back um we can you know replicate this in
08:23the aggregate or um you know we we um you know they just looked at his stats and they didn't look at
08:28at what he meant in the locker room they didn't you know look at what he meant as a captain and a
08:32leader and a face of the franchise and you know when when these moves are made in off seasons we look at
08:37the box score we look at their stats we look at their measurables and and their analytics and stuff
08:42and we don't always like take into consideration like personality and um intangibles and what they
08:51offer to the team that can't be quantified and I think that is something that the Knicks are missing
08:55um that can't be quantified um but you know I don't think do the Knicks do any opponent you know
09:01come into the garden and are they scared of the Knicks you know do they feel like they can be
09:05out muscled um you know Mike Brown has talked about physicality he has a lot a lot you know he talks
09:10about it a lot especially during that stretch they lost nine of 11 games um and there's a reason why
09:17I think they lack a little bit of physicality yeah I wonder if that's something that could be infused
09:21in this team but an interesting day interesting time for the Knicks hopefully they can build on some
09:26of what we saw on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets you just talked about the fact they have a
09:30big matchup with the Sixers who they've lost to twice this season already both at home
09:34down in Philly on Saturday everybody that is Jared Schwartz does a great job covering all sports

09:44I appreciate the time you come to talk to me about this and hopefully the Knicks fans can calm down
