00:00There are loads of new games coming out right now that are packed with fascinating little details
00:04that are easy to miss. That said, there's one game we can't help but keep coming back to when
00:09we decide to take a look at the most minor of details that pretty much everyone missed,
00:14and that's Rocksteady's 2015 action-adventure Batman Arkham Knight.
00:19The fourth and final entry into the mainland Batman Arkham series was generally really well
00:23received, save for its massive technical stumble with the PC version upon release.
00:28The game is just packed with secrets and details, and whilst lots of those have been uncovered,
00:34Arkham Knight is the game that keeps on giving. While obviously somebody has to have found each
00:39of these details in order for me to tell you about them, here are a bunch of fascinating little tidbits
00:44that almost nobody caught. I'm Jess from WhatCulture, and here are 10 tiny details in Batman
00:50Arkham Knight Everyone Missed. Number 10. You can spot militia helicopters.
00:55Many of the tiny details I'll mention on this list will sound super cool, and if you did manage to
01:00find them, you should be super impressed, but if you didn't see them, you're not receiving an
01:04inferior experience. That said, this game goes deep, and there are a plethora of incredible little
01:10details, one of which can be seen by attentive players right before bringing the Ace Chemical
01:15workers to safety. Before getting underway, you're told that militia forces are deploying to the other
01:21island of Gotham City, and if you look up, you can actually see this for yourself.
01:26Reddit user Pranklimulator posted a video to the Gaming Details subreddit showing themselves
01:31grappling to a high point in the city where it's possible to watch the choppers flying across the
01:36city and descending to establish checkpoints. Batman Arkham Knight may not have been everybody's
01:41cup of tea, largely because of that Batmobile, but you can't deny that when you notice these little
01:46things, you've got to appreciate the effort they put in. 9. Thugs Break Into Vending Machines
01:52You'd be forgiven for not loitering too long in Arkham Knight. I mean, Bruce is a busy guy and
01:57there's a lot going down, but if you do hang around, maybe you'd like to take on some neighborhood
02:02watch-level duties and make sure no vending machines are being vandalized. Reddit user EdikaranFauna
02:08discovered that if you hang around long enough, you can watch thugs struggle to get a freebie from a
02:13vending machine. Or maybe it ate his money? I don't know. He'll eventually smash it with his foot to
02:18get at the goods inside, before chucking the litter on the ground behind him. Being that you're the
02:23Batman, this seems like a totally sensible window to execute that silent takedown and exact your
02:29vengeance in the name of the defenseless convenient snack location.
02:338. Thugs Throwing Cans Part 2
02:35Since we're on the topic of thugs being thugs, what they'd really love more than anything else is to get
02:41their hands on the caped crusader and give him what for. Of course, for a lot of them, they're
02:46more of a melee bunch, so if you're out of reach, their behavior is pretty interesting. If you stay
02:51on a platform for some time, not only will they yell taunts at you, generally of the chicken variety,
02:56they'll also start throwing cans at you. Hilariously, they're not all the best shots,
03:02and sometimes their attempts to chuck a can at you will result in them hitting one of their buddies
03:06with the tinned surprise instead. The thump will have his mate pull up his guard with the intention
03:11of squaring off against his mate before dropping it and turning his attention back to you. This
03:16animation is displayed in all its glory in a YouTube clip by O Knights O, and it's worth enjoying for
03:21yourself. I think we can all agree this is far more entertaining than just giving the thugs a generic
03:26idol animation or having them rush your platform waiting for you to get down.
03:307. Officer Owen's Diner Demons
03:33At the start of Batman Arkham Knight, you play Officer Owens, one of the first victims of
03:38Scarecrow's fear toxin. In fact, you get to experience the whole thing for yourself,
03:42and it is not a chill time, as the name of the toxin would imply.
03:46As the patrons in Pauly's Diner morph into demons, you'll get the opportunity to shoot at them or not
03:52shoot at them while inside Owens' toxin-addled mind. There's a few interesting tidbits here.
03:57First off, the news report that plays out directly after the incident will change depending on whether or
04:02not you shot any of the patrons. Similarly, when you're in the GCPD later on, you can hear officers
04:09talking about Owens going to trial, and they'll say different things depending on whether or not
04:14Owens took a shot at anyone. For example, they might say that he has to go to trial if he killed
04:19any of the patrons, but they won't say this if you didn't kill anybody. And the identity of the
04:24Arkham Knight himself is teased in this scene as the first demon you speak to had carved an A
04:29into the table. Finally, the bodies of the waitress and the man who asks you for help can
04:34be found in the morgue during the Shadow War expansion mission. If you're a super fan who
04:39did notice all that, consider me thoroughly impressed and I will try and tell you something
04:43you don't know before the video's over. Number 6. Batman needs help aiming too.
04:48This is a fantastic addition to our growing roster of tiny little details that show just how much love
04:54Rocksteady put into this game, but they wouldn't have damaged the experience at all if they
04:58weren't implemented. While using the disruptor gadget, if you decide to take your eyes off the
05:03thing you're actually pointing it at, you might notice that Batman himself has a little live feed
05:08so he can see what he's pointing at. The picture in picture is too small for you to actually use
05:13in any gameplay aiming technical sort of way, but it's clearly useful for bats and it's a really cool
05:18little addition. The tiny monitor is always right there in your field of vision, but there's a good
05:23chance you missed it because, well, who looks at their gun when they're aiming at something?
05:27As a little bonus to this entry, you can also interact with the mechanical bus to preview the
05:32disruptor at Wayne Tower before it's ready, and Lucius will tell you that you spoiled the surprise.
05:38Number 5. Batman's no-kill policy loopholes. Batman might have a no-kill policy, incredible
05:44destruction capabilities of the Batmobile notwithstanding, but he definitely doesn't
05:49have a no-maiming policy. This can be seen by those willing to pause fights and use photo mode to see
05:54the damage Bats has been dealing. Thugs bleed and bruise up as a result of your wailing, and
06:00the results aren't just realistic, they're incredibly detailed. You'd be forgiven for
06:04missing this one, as once the fight's over, you're probably focusing on your next target
06:09or moving on, but attentive players can notice that cuts will appear and your foes can get black eyes.
06:15I mean, we've all seen the way Batman fights, they're definitely getting black eyes. Probably
06:19concussions for that matter. Are we sure he's not killing these guys?
06:23Number 4. Robin's mask indent. This one's short and sweet, but it's so easy to miss and so
06:29mind-blowing that if this list isn't making you want to check out the game for the first time,
06:33or a replay, then this entry might do it. In Arkham Knight, Robin has an outline on his face where
06:38his mask sits when he's not wearing it. It might not be the most incognito if he has to go from being
06:44a vigilante, then out to dinner with mates soon afterwards, but it is realistic. This one was
06:49alerted to us by Reddit user Ratbong. Yep, Ratbong. I don't choose to use the names. It's such a wildly
06:56insignificant little detail, but it's exactly the kind of thing that's earned Arkham Knight and the
07:01larger Batman Arkham series their cult following. Number 3. Insanely Detailed Grenades.
07:07This one is also extremely granular. Grenadular? Arkham Knight are almost photorealistically rendered,
07:15which is kind of crazy because most players would never even look at one, let alone examine one up
07:19close. Reddit user TonyOSW took a photo for the Batman Arkham subreddit, which shows off the little
07:25ball of death in all its glory, complete with chipped paint suggesting this thing has been around
07:31the block prior to it being threateningly chucked in your general direction. This level of detail extends
07:36to the weapon design, but it seems especially impressive when it's applied to something that
07:41is designed to self-destruct pretty much immediately. Number 2. You can freak out enemies
07:46with trackers. If you drop down behind a militia soldier who has a tracker and wait a little while,
07:52he has a pretty excellent voice line that's right along the lines of,
07:55he's standing right behind me, isn't he? You can watch the militia let his buddies know he's getting a
08:00signal and it might be the Batman. He then looks at it for a while trying to get a lock and then says
08:06this doesn't make any sense. It says he's right behind me. He utters that line while slowly turning
08:13his head and honestly between the performance, the writing and the animation, it's just perfect.
08:18Take that moment to non-lethally punch his lights out, rendering him unconscious with an injury I'm sure
08:23he'll totally make a full recovery from and be the Batman I know you are. Number 1. Two-Face's face is
08:30even more disturbing than you thought. We've spent a long time on very minor graphical and animation
08:35details that add a lot to Batman's journey, his characterisation and his enemies in Arkham Knight,
08:41and this one continues to flesh out the latter. Pun partially intended. This one's pretty gross,
08:47so consider yourself warned if you're particularly squeamish. But if you take a closer look at Two-Face's
08:53visage, you can see that the veins on the burnt half of his face move and pulse. In yet another
08:59example of this game cutting no corners on how spectacular it looks, this is a really awe-inspiring
09:05little find, especially since it's visible in Dent's character model outside of cutscenes too.
09:11It's so detailed you can actually see the blood moving through his veins and it's creepy enough to
09:15make you very aware of your own veins, so let's just cut the video there. That's the end of our list,
09:21but do let me know down in that comment section if you can think of any other incredibly tiny
09:25details from Batman Arkham Knight. As always, I've been Jess from WhatCulture, thank you so much for
09:31hanging out with me. If you like, you can come say hi to me on my Twitter account where I'm
09:35at JessMcDonald, but make sure you stay tuned to us here for plenty more gaming goodness.
