00:00Welcome back to the Tamworth Country Music Festival where things are starting to wrap up but we've still got the long weekend celebrations to go and one of the other things that we've got yet to come here is the rodeo at the Australian Equine Livestock Entertainment Centre.
00:16We're very lucky to be joined here by one of the most experienced ropers maybe here in Tamworth at the moment and look I know you're probably a little bit too humble to admit that but I'm with Wazza and your son Chance.
00:28You both have a long history with this don't you? Tell us a little bit about how that came to be.
00:34Yeah I've sort of been in the sport for about 30 years now and come right up through the ranks of being a protection athlete with working with the Bulls and steer wrestling and roping and yeah it's just a great lifestyle and working with horses and animals is just sort of one of our passions and yeah sort of my son's at that age now where he's sort of developing all the skills that we've sort of taught him.
00:57And he sort of loves the sport and sort of pursues it and it's a bit like anything with the juniors whether it's be football or baseball or golf they sort of start at a younger age and then develop into the senior ranks and take on the sport as a professional athlete.
01:15Yeah it's unbelievable I might ask you this Chance you know being brought into you know this career or you know this lifestyle to do it with your father that must be pretty special.
01:27Oh it's pretty amazing I love roping with dad and I'm just happy to be doing the sport and have everything that I've given.
01:37Back to you Wazza like you said you've done so many different things as well give us a little bit of a background of I guess your life here.
01:44Yeah like I said I come up as a kid growing up around horses and cattle and sort of yeah just to develop the love of the sport and yeah it's just you know keeps the kids off the streets to say.
01:59But yeah we just enjoy it as a family and it's a great outing of a weekend and yeah we just enjoy doing what we do.
02:11Awesome. Now I'm very excited to say that we're actually going to get a demonstration.
02:15Wazza we might start with you and then Chance you can follow up with.
02:19Did you want to show me how you rope this dummy animal here?
02:24Yeah I'll try the best.
02:25Okay so.
02:26We just try to get the loose coming around our head and then we just focus on the target and try and get it roped as best we can.
02:34And you throw it quite viciously don't you?
02:36Because I take it when you've got you know a bucking animal that's trying to get away from you you know it's not softly softly catchy monkey is it?
02:43No well I suppose like I sort of use the golf terminology.
02:47Roping's a little bit like golf just when you think you got it mastered your ball sort of slice off either way.
02:52But yeah it's something that we are especially with these sort of we call them a training dummy.
02:59That we can try and practice towards the live thing so and then it just becomes repetitious.
03:06Just correcting our swing and correcting our delivery and yeah just try and master it as best we can.
03:12It's quite amazing.
03:13Now Chance I'd love for you to give us a demonstration before we leave you today.
03:18Now look this is the next generation of ropers here.
03:22Chance I reckon is a chip off the old block and he's absolutely nailed that one.
03:28Just another little amazing example of what we've got here at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
03:33Thank you so much for stopping in we hope to bring you some more from this amazing festival very soon.
03:39So here we go.
