The Happy Friar, in Tunbridge Wells, was forced to close after a break in lead to a window, ornaments and even a counter being damaged in the process.

00:00Customers were coming through the doors, chefs were cooking in the kitchen and
00:03delivery drivers were picking up meals, all a normal Sunday evening for the Happy
00:07Fryer takeaway in Tunbridge Wells. But when one customer came in things
00:12changed and the CCTV cameras recorded him damaging the property. Many of the
00:17workers at Happy Fryer are quite elderly and told the owner they were quite
00:20frightened at the time. Yeah they are quite old but they're very professional
00:26chefs yeah and just reinsuring them yeah this actually safe to work here. So I've
00:34got phone call from member of the staff said a random man just start smashing the
00:39shop up I didn't get here as soon as possible so I managed to get here within
00:44maybe five minutes. When I got here there was customer waiting outside the food
00:51who still needs passing out to deliver driver the police was here and so I
00:59didn't really know what's happened but place just look amazing dangers. The loss
01:04from closure and repairs to the damaged computer totals 800 pounds and that
01:08doesn't yet include repairs to the windows counter and vase the value of them
01:12isn't yet known. I haven't got chance to look into it yet because I was quite busy
01:18to fix the computer and the phone and the printer is all be smashed up just
01:24quickly get that done and we'll start calling for the repair get the window glass
01:31changed. She added they've never seen this kind of behavior before they've had
01:36others being disorderly but never had any damage or had to call the authorities.
01:39In a statement Kent police said they received a report of criminal damage at a
01:44commercial premises in Friars Way in Tunbridge Wells at around 5.40 p.m.
01:48on Sunday the 18th of January 2026. Officers attended and a man was arrested.
01:52Ashley Inglis, 35 of Bracken Road, Tunbridge Wells has been charged with
01:56criminal damage. He's due to appear at West Kent Magistrates Court on the 18th
02:00of March 2026. The shop reopened a few days later with the owner Zenu saying that
02:05despite the damage to their building their recipes weren't affected and they
