00:00:00you guys have a video i want to share with you guys so let's do it hey guys pastor averly here

00:00:15and i am so excited to share this message with you this is honestly something i've had to just

00:00:18work out and live out and submit back to god in my own life but i just preached a message about

00:00:22the distractions of demand so what do you do when you have so much coming at you from all angles

00:00:26dividing your attention and how do you really carry what counts in the process and so love for

00:00:30you to tune in love for you to share this with at least three different people because i promise

00:00:32you it's going to be transformative you guys know we're in a series called do not disturb and last

00:00:37week y'all got to hear from your very own youth pastor pastor ty now you guys i spread this up

00:00:41to 1.5 so you can slow me down if it's too fast for you okay and he has his own cheering squad

00:00:49sitting directly in this direction if anybody was wondering where the youth sit but um he did a

00:00:52phenomenal job of setting us up and just kind of talking through focusing and what the different

00:00:55distractions are and what it is that um we have to lock in and focus in on and so this has been an

00:00:59incredible series pastor restarted us and today i am so excited to be able to share just with you

00:01:03what i feel like god has shared with me and when we were kind of prepping the work for this sermon

00:01:07series we were talking just we've had lots of meetings about this sermon series and i remember

00:01:10pastor brie she was like okay so this is what we're gonna do and this is what we're gonna talk

00:01:12about we were all kind of going back and forth with our ideas and she said just think about what

00:01:16distracts you amberley like what is it that really distracts you and i just sat there for a moment i was

00:01:20like i'm distracted by my distractions and she was like okay and so i was like do i call the sermon

00:01:25distracted by distractions and so i really like went back to the lord and i was like i meant that

00:01:28in my heart of hearts i meant i'm distracted by my distractions but i really had to figure out

00:01:31what is it that i feel like really distracts me and gets me out of alignment of the will of god in

00:01:36my life and what is it that takes my focus off of god and so i um i'm excited to be able to share

00:01:40with you what i believe that is something that's kind of happening to a lot of us in this season of

00:01:44life we live in a very fast-paced culture a very busy world lots of things going on at any given time

00:01:48lots of things coming at us we live in one of the greatest times of society where information

00:01:51overload is we can look up and chat tpt and google anything within seconds and have an answer to our

00:01:56question within 0.002 seconds and so my question for all of us this morning is does anyone in the

00:02:01room feel like they are pulled in 10 different directions am i talking to anybody in the room

00:02:05feeling like you have been pulled in 10 different directions with all of the responsibilities all of

00:02:09the expectations all of the requirements and what i've realized is that we live in a very demand

00:02:13driven culture one demand after another coming from every angle it's just a demand after a demand

00:02:18after a demand and i've realized that we are a culture and a people that are constantly distracted

00:02:22by our demands so i'm going to title the message today the distraction of demands because i believe

00:02:27that god wants us to understand how crucial it is that we lock in and focus but what it is and how

00:02:32the demands of this life cause us to be distracted and keep us off of the course away from what it is

00:02:37that god is calling us to do so i want to just if i can we are a hot church which is humble open and

00:02:41transparent and so i want to if i can i just be vulnerable with you guys this morning am i in a safe

00:02:45space to be vulnerable i want to kind of walk you through what i have been battling as some of the

00:02:49demands that i feel like are pulling on me and pulling for my attention constantly and my hope

00:02:53and my prayer is that maybe you'll see yourself in some of these examples or maybe you will realize

00:02:57oh my gosh i didn't even realize that was something that was vying for my attention and i thought

00:03:01it was harmless and it's actually turned out to be something more dangerous than i realized and so

00:03:04i want to start this morning by just kind of talking you through some of the demands that i feel like pull me in

00:03:08those 10 different directions that i was talking about the first one i want to talk about is

00:03:11relationships i feel like there's a constant demand to have our relationships all together

00:03:16and um as you can see this is my incredibly fine husband will he's so fine thanks babe and i got

00:03:22this you're good yeah i got this on my own um and i i love my husband and i love being married to my

00:03:27husband but he's kind of needy and he's constantly wanting things for me that i may or may not want to

00:03:33give him do the married folks know what i'm talking about okay can i can i talk to the right people in the

00:03:36room and um what i've learned is at the ripe old age of 44 there are certain things in my body that

00:03:45are working against me that make me not want to desire maybe the things that i freshly wanted in

00:03:49my 20s can any woman in the room relate right now and so there's constant demands for my husband of

00:03:54making sure that his needs are met making sure that our marriage is priority making sure that i am

00:03:58locked in knowing what it is that he needs praying for him helping him being his helpmate and on top of

00:04:03that i've got friendships that i'm trying to maintain and i've got friends that want to get

00:04:06together for dinner days and i've got friends that want to call and run an idea by me and i just need

00:04:09you for two minutes that turns into 32 minutes and if you could just help me figure out this one

00:04:13thing that i need to figure out and so it's constant demands from relationships it's even just um even

00:04:18some of my co-workers are pulling on me not from not even necessarily from a work standpoint but

00:04:22just they're just they're relationships that i desire and i want to have but what does this have to do

00:04:26with the lord see she wasted six minutes of our time for nothing beautiful woman is she called by

00:04:36god to teach no okay i don't know why you need to bring up the luggage and the bags you don't need

00:04:43that to teach just to get capture your attention why because it's not the holy spirit the demand to

00:04:49always be everything that they need to be at all times becomes so exhausting and i love my husband and

00:04:55i love my friends and yet it feels like i'm carrying around this demand that feels a little bit more

00:04:59than i can handle on my own so we've got my relationships that i'm thinking through and then

00:05:03it's like oh on top of that because i am 44 i have to keep my health in check right so your pastor aka my

00:05:08pastor about three years ago he decided to get physically fit y'all remember when pastor mike was

00:05:12fat and then he got skinny y'all remember when will heckebach was fat and he got skinny why do you need all this

00:05:18he really is why do you need all this this ain't no circus supposed to be the house the lord supposed

00:05:23to be but as you can see they think you don't understand because you need to see luggage

00:05:32she doesn't think she can have a conversation with you without luggage

00:05:39so this the luggage means health okay friends i would have never known that if you put relationships and

00:05:46health together that those are things that could be a part of my life that i have to deal with

00:05:53but they become luggage now they become luggage i have to see physically okay it was this awkward

00:05:59moment where we were in meetings with the ugly fanny pack for what i can't understand what you're saying

00:06:04without you using these things you never saw jesus go pick up something and put it on

00:06:10so they can understand his words were enough

00:06:15this looks crazy

00:06:19that means that you don't have the holy spirit the holy spirit won't let you do that

00:06:24holy spirit is not gonna let me get some props up here and start showing you like you're like

00:06:29you're a kid who can't pay attention

00:06:38looks crazy

00:06:42that means you can't that means you're not called to preach and teach to me if you need to get a bunch

00:06:46of props like like i'm in elementary school or something talk to adults here

00:06:52who are in relationships who have maybe some health things going on and you want to bring up some

00:07:03traveling bags get out of here mike was eating meal prep and all of a sudden my raising canes started

00:07:08looking really suspicious next to his meal prep or my chick-fil-a or my taco bueno i mean whatever it

00:07:14is that i wanted to eat he would be sitting next to me in a meeting just eating chicken and rice and

00:07:18broccoli and i was like that's crazy and i remember he began a movement you guys remember when he got

00:07:23healthy it kind of came to the point where we didn't have a choice as a staff off stage and let's

00:07:27hear what the holy spirit has to say because the holy spirit is not with you just here for attention

00:07:34so you can start preaching everywhere and getting paid for your lifestyle so get out of here that

00:07:40phoniness we're either going to be the unhealthy ones or we was going to get healthy and i decided i

00:07:45wasn't going to do i wouldn't i don't want to hear about health i want to hear about your relationship

00:07:48with the lord because you're not having one that's why i don't care if you read the book

00:07:53the good book and take it with you everywhere you ain't called to be preaching teaching

00:07:58people think because they know the word that they're supposed to be preaching teaching no they're not

00:08:04sit down and listen to the world in your life stop trying to make money off the children of god

00:08:09meal prep and me continue to chomp down on my pepperoni pizza that i take the pepperonis off

00:08:15of because i like the way i don't care i don't care but i don't actually want the pepperoni on my pizza

00:08:20okay so now i've got to get my health in check but then all of a sudden as you begin to age and grow

00:08:26up gracefully and beautifully your hormones all of a sudden decide to wreak havoc on your body and

00:08:29nothing is what it used to be and so now you're going to doctor keep it at home tmi

00:08:36keep that at home

00:08:48god

00:08:51made marriage so whatever's happening in the marriage bed stays there we don't need to hear

00:08:55about it appointment after doctor appointment trying to figure out what's going on with your

00:08:59hormones so i'm just trying to eat right my husband doesn't eat chicken i mean he doesn't eat chicken he

00:09:03only eats beef but i only eat chicken i don't eat beef so that i have to meal prep only chicken

00:09:06for me and only be for him and then mia bless her little heart wouldn't you know that one week she

00:09:10likes strawberries and the next week she doesn't so i've gone to costco bought all the strawberries

00:09:13only to find out what she don't like strawberries no more so it's a constant battle can i drink 400

00:09:19ounces of water today can i eat 2 000 grams of protein today can i take does anybody understand

00:09:23what that demand feels like on you when you're trying to be healthy and keep your body in alignment

00:09:27and you know you're the temple of the holy ghost and he dwells inside of you but the pressure to

00:09:31keep all of that in alignment is a lot right so then we've got those blessings of children right

00:09:37and i love my daughter y'all know i love me samia bell i love me samia bell i don't see how

00:09:42you have all these you have these issues with the holy spirit see she's saying but you have your temp

00:09:47your body's a temple of the holy spirit the holy spirit conducts everything in my life

00:09:51so what are you talking about i have no problem with buying food and organizing and meal prepping

00:10:01and any of that i don't have a problem with any of that but can you tell me how this is relationship

00:10:07to god i'm waiting but when i tell you this kid comes with demands all of her own first she got

00:10:16soccer practice okay let me get you to soccer practice three times a week oh and then also you

00:10:20want me to take you to that private lesson for that coach to teach you the extra skills cool oh

00:10:23volleyball oh we're gonna go to volleyball twice a week okay but then you also want to start serving

00:10:26better so i'm gonna put you goodbye okay cool oh and now they're teaching calculus goodbye

00:10:35eighth grade great let me figure out through chat gbt how to do that again oh and you still want to eat

00:10:38your lunch ah thank you jesus okay as you can see the demands are piling up not only that but now she's a

00:10:44preteen or not a preteen she's a teenage girl my bad and she has teenage girl problems and now i'm

00:10:48trying to counsel her through all of the teenage girl drama that's going on at school and remind

00:10:51her to say kind things but then also punch them in the throat if they need to be punched you know i'm

00:10:54just so he's not the holy spirit

00:11:00just like the other lady was saying um i was going to throw hands and now she's talking about fighting

00:11:05and they're like clapping why she's talking lukewarm okay lukewarm with a demon on you there's no way the

00:11:11holy spirit is going to let me say and sock him in the neck or something what that's not the holy

00:11:16spirit god is holy see she doesn't believe believe in him that's why she says something like that

00:11:22and then you got a demon out there cheering it on why because there's a bunch of demons out there

00:11:27the holy spirit's not there that's when you get up and leave you hear a fault you hear you know it's

00:11:33a false prophet because they show it to you they say something evil and act like it's funny it's not

00:11:36funny to be fighting in school i don't know what you're talking about shouldn't be promoting that

00:11:43it's just it's balanced you know it's like lay your hands on them and pray for them there is no

00:11:48balance no it's not what are you talking about jesus didn't strike back

00:12:00i understand when people say what about self-defense okay we know that's different but

00:12:05she didn't say that she didn't say self-defense or run from satan you know she's saying fight

00:12:15that's what she said go ahead and just take them out if you need to but um so your children are

00:12:20pulling at you depending on the age and stage that your kids are in and they've got demands

00:12:24at a point do you see the demands piling up trying to connect with evil why

00:12:27why it doesn't happen a lot that your child will have an actual physical fight it happens to some

00:12:37kids and not to others

00:12:38so just because you were fighting in school don't mean your kids are so why tell them that

00:12:45if they say something just sock them in the neck your kid's hitting no matter what because instead

00:12:52of saying walk away you're saying hit the person goodbye that's not the lord well then you gotta have

00:12:58a job because you gotta pay your bills right so then you've got your career and um i decided let me bring

00:13:02my real boss my real life boss up to the state fake entertainment she went got her boss from work for

00:13:07what to come up here and bring another bag get out of here what she just said that's why god pointed

00:13:13at you you're not called nothing funny about what you said she said don't talk crazy about me

00:13:24and i don't know if y'all ever read an email from pastor brie davis but per her emails

00:13:29she has some things she needs us do anything for attention she'll do anything selling her soul

00:13:36with the demon why because god didn't call her do this she just wants to do it she wants to be on

00:13:39stage get attention next she'll be probably doing something else demonic which is trying to

00:13:43have some kind of trying to have some either her own group or something or she already does that

00:13:49who knows but you're not called you have a demon with you and as you can see why the demon spoke out

00:13:53of you about hating and fighting what for try to seem cool try to be like the world well you are the

00:13:58world just sitting on the stage inside of a place called a church that's not the holy spirit you hear

00:14:03someone say something about a sin like that and laugh it off not the holy spirit you hear someone who

00:14:08said they love god start cussing and all that not the holy spirit you hear about them scamming stuff like

00:14:12that it's not the holy spirit to know and some expectations that she wants us to follow through

00:14:19on on top of that i also have a part-time job outside of my full-time job and i would like to do

00:14:23the work that god has called me to do outside of this country and go to the work and do the work in

00:14:26africa so there's also a non-profit that i'm trying to keep up with so all of it is fighting for my

00:14:30attention one demand after another then it's my spiritual life which i want to serve god i want to hear

00:14:36god's voice i know i need to be praying i know i need to be fasting i know i need to be mentoring i know i need to

00:14:40be mentored oh i know i need to go to therapy because yeah there's that and uh i there's i

00:14:47gotta have a sabbath because that's you know it's important to rest and how do you rest when you're

00:14:51carrying all of this and then it's like i know i need to fast i know i need to pray i know i need to

00:14:55lock into what god is doing and so i've got to show up to church and then i also want to where is god at

00:15:00she keeps saying oh i have my spiritual life what are you talking about that's all you need to be

00:15:06talking about anyway the marriage all that falls underneath your relationship with god marriage

00:15:11parenting food whatever somehow health all that falls under your relationship she's out of order

00:15:21your obedience to god takes care of everything else see how simple that is

00:15:26she's not saying that because she's not doing that she's out of order she's trying to make money

00:15:30out the children of god what she said was not from a place of love i don't care

00:15:36if they pour a whole cart of duffel bags on you you ain't called because of what you're saying

00:15:45you're feeling the demon you have to make the choice to say i'm not gonna listen to her anymore

00:15:48what she said that's not the holy spirit the holy spirit speaks out when there's a preacher called

00:15:54a pastor a prophet not you and your intelligence and your idea about bringing bags on stage looking

00:16:00crazy it's not the holy spirit the holy spirit can continue to talk to you because you know that

00:16:07the holy spirit is feeding your spirit with the truth the truth is your false i don't care if you

00:16:15bring your whole family up there and have a family reunion you still ain't called because what you're

00:16:20saying it's not affecting me at all i'm not i'm gonna forget this what you're saying because you're

00:16:25just distracting me from a relationship with the with the lord the holy spirit tells me what to do

00:16:31and guys my footsteps behind the scenes and on the screen so stop it a really cool graphic up that made

00:16:40it look like i wanted to serve and i want to be in community i don't want to live life alone so i'm

00:16:43gonna get into a tribe and it's again just one look she got spiritual laughs anyway and after you got

00:16:49spiritual laughs even though god should be first and he takes care of the rest goodbye

00:16:59that's the order she put her life in because then there's still bills today

00:17:04there's still cards that's what she puts first her marriage her health everything you know the light

00:17:11goes on in your engine whatever she put up there that's how and then god is and then thank you so much

00:17:16god is way at the end see she out of order and then her own god is so good her own showcase because

00:17:27it's sure it's surely not from the lord it's showing you her life she puts her marriage first her health

00:17:35something else something else then it says spiritual it doesn't even say the lord doesn't say god jesus no

00:17:42spiritual that's what she sees this as a spiritual facade she's putting on a show with them stupid

00:17:48backpacks on oh the the dishwasher breaks and you have to have a new dishwasher and then it's you've

00:17:52got to make sure that the yard gets mowed and wet and we need it because if you live in a subdivision

00:17:55with an hoa you will be getting a nasty letter from the president of the hoa and so there's all these

00:17:59and imagine imagine imagine imagine you think that this is what's going on in her world but she's married

00:18:14see with god her husband should be next to her with them bags on too

00:18:18or only god is there carrying the load because i don't feel what she feels because i'm a relationship

00:18:29with him hallelujah i don't feel those bags so what is she talking about

00:18:36this is someone who's not saved things that are fighting for your attention pulling at you and

00:18:49goodbye i already said in the name of jesus goodbye fighting you in different directions

00:18:55and then let's not forget finances because you do have to pay your bills you do have to give to caesar

00:18:59what is due to caesar the tax man does in fact want his money every april oh okay and so

00:19:05i need to keep those in order and remember i'm not getting any younger so they say i need to start

00:19:08saving for retirement and have seven one pays and 13 220s to send my kids adequately to college

00:19:15she think this is a joke teaching children of god she would not do this 20 years ago

00:19:23maybe not even that far back

00:19:27yeah i'll give it about 15 years ago she would not do this see it's getting crazy and crazier because

00:19:32we're coming to the end right now it's time for false prophets to rise up and god's pointing them

00:19:36out so that you will be saved you have a demon with you man false prophecy the holy spirit will let you

00:19:40go up there doing all this put on a show god does not do anything like this it's tacky and he is very

00:19:46classy and regal he does not do things like this you don't need to do that to capture the children of

00:19:51god attention he loves us he tells us the truth put on this goofy show to try to show me and you

00:19:57showed me the order of your life which is off anyway that means that you're not in relation with

00:20:02the lord you're not a prophet you're not a teacher stop pretending take them bags off and

00:20:07go take a seat and sit down this is the word lord in your life this is not your assignment goodbye

00:20:13and whoo this is a lot and then culture is coming at me telling me i have to be a certain

00:20:18way look a certain way do a certain thing live a certain way post a certain way don't post that

00:20:23post this do this don't do that and it's just honestly too much and then last but not least is

00:20:29the emotional demands how do you keep your mental health stable how do you not fall into anxiety or

00:20:33depression or worry or grief or worry about oh it's honestly just too much and if i can submit to you

00:20:42this is what life is like for all of us someone or something is handing us one bag after another bag

00:20:48after another bag and it's causing us to be continually and perpetually distracted and

00:20:54distractions aren't necessarily always a bad thing it's only bad when they pulled away our attention

00:20:59our focus and our devotion to god and we weren't the only ones that have been distracted if you will

00:21:04will you turn with me in your bibles to luke chapter 10 i want to read to you about a woman who was

00:21:09distracted luke chapter 10 verses 38 through 42 is what we're going to read and it says this as jesus and

00:21:18his disciples were on their way he came to a village where a woman named martha opened her home to him

00:21:23she had a sister called mary who sat at the lord's feet listening to what he said but martha was

00:21:28distracted by all the preparations that had to be made she came to him and asked lord do you not care

00:21:33that my sister has left me to do the work all by myself tell her to help me martha martha the lord

00:21:39answered you are worried and upset about many things but few things are needed or indeed only one

00:21:46mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken from her so the truth is we're all carrying

00:21:52too many bags like martha we're distracted we're anxious we're overwhelmed by everything and everyone

00:21:56that's asking from us or taking something from us i want to think about this for a minute so men in

00:22:00the room you are there's a constant distraction and demand on you to be the provider of your home

00:22:05to be able to be the one to fix anything that goes wrong to fix the problems whether it be the

00:22:08dishwasher or the kids that are acting crazy you're the one that's called on to fix everything ladies

00:22:12we're the ones that are asked to kind of hold everything together if you will and then we've

00:22:16got married people who are trying to meet the needs of their spouse that they may have and on top of

00:22:19that trying to build their own personal identity and keep themselves together and then at the same

00:22:23time they're arguing about who's responsible for trash on tuesday night for the wednesday night pickup

00:22:27singles you're out here trying to do everything on your own when something breaks it's up to you or

00:22:31chat gpt or google to figure out how to fix it kids you're worried about your homework and your

00:22:36sports and your classes and your friends and your teachers and teenagers you're worried about what you're

00:22:40going to do and be for the rest of your life and our culture asks you at the age of 18 to have

00:22:44everything figured out and know exactly what it is that you want to do for the rest of your life

00:22:49until you retire at 65. and then for my young adults you've got bills to pay and everyone's asking

00:22:55you when are you sending them down when are you going to get married then you get married yet

00:23:00when are you going to have a kid then you have a kid when are you going to have another kid then

00:23:02you have another kid when are you going to have another kid it's not about the intent it's about her being

00:23:05obedient to god it's not your assignment it's down i said no like for me if i didn't have the holy

00:23:13spirit i would think oh this is nice wow she put it you know she has the the bags out there so i

00:23:19understand it so i comprehend she's making it very easy for me to understand but but the holy spirit's

00:23:25not there it's not exactly what i need to hear it's not gonna be my spirit i'm gonna forget the message

00:23:30that's not the holy spirit i'm gonna forget this stop having kids it's this constant pool and then

00:23:37for my retired seasoned saints you thought your life was free and you were done but now you're

00:23:41raising the grandkids you never planned to raise and now you're worrying about the new demands that

00:23:44are on your body because your body is aging and changing and there's physical limitations that you

00:23:47didn't experience in the previous season of life so there are there is um the destruction of demands

00:23:52takes a toll on us so this morning i want to talk about the three problems with demands there are three

00:23:57problems with demands number one demands divide our attention if you look up the greek word of

00:24:03the word distraction it literally means to be pulled apart in different directions when they start to talk

00:24:07about other languages who cares they're not called by god it doesn't matter what they say about this

00:24:14language and that it's just another distraction what she's talking about she's actually doing she's

00:24:20becoming a distraction the holy spirit's not talking about this you are pulled in 10 different

00:24:25directions it is impossible to give a hundred percent of yourself in any one direction and i think

00:24:29sometimes when we read the bible we read it as if it's written in modern day culture and so when we

00:24:33read the story of mary forever see what she said that's a lie it is written for today yesterday and

00:24:40tomorrow that's the truth god doesn't make anything that's not everlasting it ain't written just to say

00:24:48now the way god talks to you he talks differently to people in the bible why because he has their own

00:24:53relationship with them but the word is forever the holy spirit can interpret it you can't

00:25:04because why because what she's teaching it's not gonna it's not gonna take root in you because if

00:25:10you have the holy spirit because to have the holy spirit you have to confess your mouth believe in your

00:25:15heart that jesus is lord and you too will be saved and the holy spirit comes into your heart

00:25:20and starts to guide your footsteps you have to believe him but what she's talking about

00:25:26it's not from the holy spirit this is something that she made herself with that demon she's not

00:25:31called to teach or preach to you martha it's easy to think that martha was just busy picking up the

00:25:36kitchen cleaning the kitchen getting the lemonade in the glass jar you know those glass jars have a

00:25:39little spigot thing on them to pour the glass of lemonade but we really have to go back into bible

00:25:42context and look at what uh first so she brought up that scripture for who because god pointed this

00:25:48video so the scripture is alive how you're doing too much take a seat at god's feet and listen that's

00:25:54you you're becoming a distraction you want to do something and god didn't tell you to do that sit down

00:26:00where am i'm sitting at god's feet i'm doing my assignment which is to listen to him be obedient

00:26:13not be in the kitchen trying to show god that look at i'm trying to help doing too much he didn't tell

00:26:21you to do that you're doing that because you want to get what you want to be like you want special

00:26:27attention for doing it yeah you cleaned up but god didn't tell you to do it

00:26:36go listen like the scripture scripture's alive and he talk about you you in there and then you get

00:26:43mad because you're not gonna get anything you blocked and guess who's reaping the benefits the

00:26:48one who's listening the one who's sitting at his feet i'm reaping the benefits why because i can

00:26:52actually interpret the word through the holy spirit holy spirit just taught me something when that

00:26:57isn't that wonderful that she's on there on stage trying to preach your child to god it's not your

00:27:01job take a seat and listen because then you can find happiness in doing the assignment that god has

00:27:06for you instead of trying to get up here and do something that looks great people think oh i want

00:27:11to be on stage and get all this attention too and get money that's all they think about that's the carrot

00:27:16for her instead of sitting down listening and doing what brings you joy this isn't it may get you some

00:27:26attention but you're not saved you have dealing with you for not being obedient to god

00:27:31century history look like to understand what it was that martha was actually doing

00:27:34if you think about this from a bible perspective martha there was no pre-made charcuterie

00:27:38board she wasn't doing nothing that needed to be done right then when jesus is in the room it's time

00:27:42to keep your eyes on him and what when is that all the time martha had to go gather the grains and

00:27:49the figs and the greenery that we put on our charcuterie board to make the said charcuterie board when she

00:27:53prepared chicken it she didn't just go to costco and get chicken out of the freezer and bring it home

00:27:57the chicken had to be chased down she's saying blah it's because it's not for her

00:28:02body cares

00:28:09god is so good he loves her he knows her intent is good but she he didn't call you to do this and

00:28:13this is why the holy spirit's not with you

00:28:18what she's saying she's like talking about things that don't need to be talked about

00:28:24why because it's a demon making her think that she can get up here and do it for some extra money

00:28:28for it to get popular to be a superstar that's it but you're not stop caught slaughtered killed

00:28:36feathers plucked out of it and prepared in order to even be able to have the chicken

00:28:40she had to she had to prepare the grain it had to be the flour no how does she do the chicken again

00:28:44does she is she gonna roast it or is she gonna bake it what kind of season is she gonna put in there

00:28:48okay for the bread the grain had to be pressed oh did she press it okay did she beat the meat what is

00:28:53that called what kind of season did she use see she's giving extra information to distract you from

00:28:59jesus it's all about him and all this talk talk talk talk talk talk about your relationship with the

00:29:08lord please it's been 19 minutes and 48 seconds preparation so you can see martha's frustrations when

00:29:15mary was doing nothing and martha was doing everything to get ready to feed jesus and she's frustrated when

00:29:19she comes to jesus and she says why is she not helping tell her to help me the demands of her

00:29:24preparations kept her from being focused on what was really important it divided her attention from

00:29:28the one who was in the room if you think about it when our attention is divided our devotion becomes

00:29:33diluted if you think about your own time with god when you when you set you know you know when you

00:29:37set that alarm you're like i'm gonna get up extra early and i'm gonna spend some time in the word

00:29:40and i'm gonna really pray today and i'm really gonna read the scripture and don't you know the minute that

00:29:43you open up your bible there's a the first thing out is either a ding on your phone or it's one of the

00:29:47the kids calling for you from another room every time we set our hearts to focus on the things of

00:29:50god there will always be demands that will be pulling at us that will be fighting for our

00:29:53attention and if we let our attention be divided like that our devotion will become diluted

00:29:59the second problem with demands is that they disturb our spirit jesus said martha you are worried

00:30:05and upset about many things and again that greek word worry just means that she was divided in her

00:30:09mind and the book of james says that a double-minded man is unstable in all of his ways what does that mean

00:30:15interpret it double mind it what does it mean it means you got demon with you

00:30:21the demon's gonna give you a suggestion and you're gonna either choose the demon's suggestion or yours

00:30:27because the holy spirit's not with you anymore because you're out of place

00:30:38okay you're out of place double-minded

00:30:45people may say oh you change your mind and it's confusion why is she a demon with you i don't

00:30:50i'm not double-minded when i have the holy spirit you know why i listen to the holy spirit and that's

00:30:54the answer it's the truth thank you lord i don't have to even use my intelligence at all because i'm a

00:31:02little bit silly like without the holy spirit giving me guidance i'm gonna trip and fall so

00:31:09i need him i need him i need him and ma'am you need him too because you have a demon with you

00:31:14you need to repent for false prophecy you're not allowed to teach the children of god because we

00:31:18are his children and you don't know what you're doing why because it's not in your backpack he didn't

00:31:23assign you this if he gives you that assignment he'll give you what you need in your backpack to

00:31:27do it because he's the truth he does it his way not your way this is your way talking about these

00:31:32things talking about you know this is great for like some little woman group or something but keep

00:31:36god out of it because when god's in it he runs the show

00:31:42when you get saved again repent for false prophecy false teaching he'll remove the demon from you and

00:31:47then you'll get clarity aha thank you lord he'll give you your assignment and it'll make you happy

00:31:54bring you joy and anxious and overcome with those things we are unstable we're not able to make clear

00:31:59decisions it's the inner restlessness that comes from trying to keep everyone happy and meeting every

00:32:03expectation checking off every single box or even the way that we look on the outside staying busy

00:32:07keeps us falling apart the overload of demands produces inner unrest i think about just the time

00:32:13demands that we have on our life the clock is always ticking there's meetings deadlines practices

00:32:17appointments there's never enough time but the problem with that is when everything feels urgent

00:32:22nothing feels peaceful for moms and dads there's demanding of parenting your kids and staying up late and

00:32:27having the conversations with them be like some kind of speech or something be quiet

00:32:33there's no loving it for moms and dads

00:32:39it's like you got to do this you got to do that it just sounds

00:32:42like goodbye it's not from the holy spirit from love jesus don't talk to me like that

00:32:48he talks to me from love and from the truth because he's my father the way you're talking to me you

00:32:57wouldn't talk to your child yelling and barking at me and for mothers and fathers they can hear you you

00:33:05have a mic ma'am like screaming there's a time to to use your voice and only the holy spirit can do that

00:33:17because this is not no job

00:33:24where you're talking to these people about jobs and whatever this is the holy spirit talking to the

00:33:31child of god and you know the top that the child of god is not receiving from you because you don't

00:33:34have the holy spirit period what you're saying you practiced it and it just sounds crazy

00:33:40it's like calm down relax because it's a demon trying to have you have you up there looking crazy

00:33:51all them bags coming on stage for what just so you can pile them up you also had to say see all this

00:33:57baggage here like why you put all that on and do that because you're trying to put on a show stop

00:34:03early morning drop-offs at school parenting is a blessing but it's also such a taxing toll on you

00:34:08i cannot sit in there i hear you screaming at me like that so the hardest demands that we face though

00:34:12are the ones that we self-inflict we lay down at night we're exhausted we've had a full day and

00:34:17everything our mind won't shut off because everything's replaying the to-do list the things

00:34:20we need to check off the things we didn't accomplish the things that have to move on to tomorrow

00:34:23we're present with people even during the day but not actually there trying to make me believe you and

00:34:27i don't because you're not saying okay you have doing with you you're a false teacher sit down

00:34:31stop screaming at people hey you're not happy what you're saying i don't believe you because

00:34:35you know you're not experiencing your relationship with the lord yourself you may act like you are but

00:34:39you're not just copying them other false prophets it's not from love it's not how you teach someone you

00:34:47love they're talking to us and we're not even actually hearing what they're saying because we're so

00:34:51distracted and then i don't know about you but sometimes i find myself at night scrolling through my phone

00:34:55just trying to decompress from the day and i've got this bright light shining in my face and i'm

00:34:59trying to go to sleep at night wondering why i can't fall asleep at night when i've just had

00:35:02exactly i can go to sleep very easily because holy spirit's with me you can't sleep with you

00:35:07false proxy trying to make up some something to share at church for attention i want to be a pastor

00:35:17like that's something you had to be called to do that's not one of your

00:35:20you know like oh you know i want to be a singer people have a dancer or a superstar

00:35:27but being a pastor you have to be called for that a teacher that's something you could just say i

00:35:31want to be that i'm gonna go to school for that god has to call you they do all they do all kinds

00:35:37of stuff they go to school for it all that and they practice they try to be in front of you

00:35:42ain't even called by god only how the holy spirit got a demon on them

00:35:45i went to to bible school so take a seat you ain't called

00:35:54just so they put a school name on there and say bible school you makes you a preacher and now you

00:36:00start screaming at me sit down okay you're not called by god shining in my face we're distracted

00:36:09and our spirits become so disturbed that we become so so irritable and so unkind to people and it

00:36:14happens oftentimes to the people that we love the most and i was traveling because they go to a

00:36:19church for a long time they'll get in good with the pastor and they say they go i want to be a pastor

00:36:24too i want all the attention you're getting that's it and someone lets them do another demon knowing

00:36:29that they're false teacher false prophet knock out by god that's why you're just gonna sit in any

00:36:33church that's the lord don't watch anybody on a stage they're not called like she's not don't have

00:36:40them say anything to you because if you grew it then that didn't come in your life

00:36:44ago i remember i was traveling with a certain lady and we were getting ready to catch a flight

00:36:48and she had about four bags she had a fanny pack she had a pillow she had a blanket and

00:36:53she had her stuffed animal and i remember thinking to myself there is no way that southwest airlines

00:36:57is going to let her onto the airplane with all of those bags that's where you got your idea from

00:37:01oh okay i politely went up to her and i was like ma'am i just you know just so you're aware southwest

00:37:05does have like a two bag policy and there's 10 that i'm counting so you'll want to you know just do

00:37:09like a little condensing and she's like well i can't condense these bags they're my pillow's not

00:37:12gonna fit in my suitcase my blanket's not gonna fit in my suitcase and so she said i'm just gonna wing

00:37:15it and i was like i'm gonna tell you right now southwest doesn't play around and they will hold

00:37:18up a whole line for you and make you look like a plum fool if you don't have your bags solid

00:37:21consolidated right so it'll be fine so sure enough we get to line up and she's standing about four

00:37:26people in front of me and she's got 18 bags wrapped around her and the gate agent stopped the entire

00:37:30line and got on the you know the little walkie thing and said i need everyone to consolidate all of

00:37:34their personal belongings into two bags those crossbody bags those things wrapped around those blankets those

00:37:37pillows those all now have to be wrapped up and put into your suitcase and he was literally talking

00:37:41to her but made an announcement to the entire airport of people that were standing there waiting

00:37:44to board the flight so she panics like anyone would do in that moment and she tried to stuff

00:37:48what she had extra with her into the bags that she brought with her but there was zero room in those

00:37:51bags so then she started saying she was passing down her pillow that had drool on it from the night

00:37:55before to the four people behind her and her blankie down and someone who didn't have two

00:37:59six two cases was having to take on a second suitcase and i realized in that moment people were having to

00:38:03carry a burden they didn't show up to carry because she didn't prepare well and i just wonder how many

00:38:09of us because we do not have our spirits in check because we are so distracted by the demands that

00:38:14life has put on us that we are showing up to the people that we love the most our spouses our family

00:38:18our friends and we're expecting them to take the leftover baggage that we didn't prepare how to handle

00:38:22properly i thought this was about demands divide our attention demands disturb our spirit now it's about

00:38:29handing off a pillow we have the nerves when i tell you she was mad at that gay agent i mean

00:38:35she was angry with that gay agent and i thought to myself i don't care i don't care you know why because

00:38:41god carries my load and guess what what you're talking about would never happen over here because

00:38:52are you talking to children of god or people who are not ready what are you talking about

00:38:55because she's not ready she got a demon on her right because she's talking about oh she's not

00:39:01ready she's not ready but it's like so what's that do with me i'm a child of god i'm ready she can't

00:39:07talk to the child of god who's actually what being in they're listening to the lord you're listening to

00:39:16the lord you have a relationship you're being in relation with the lord when you're in relation with

00:39:20him you're listening so she can't talk to that child she has to talk about problems why because

00:39:26she's dealing with her see she want to talk to the one that's not listening instead of talk to the

00:39:32one that is why because she's not actually listening to the lord in her own life and was just doing his

00:39:40job but she was so frustrated and i just think to myself when our spirits get so disturbed like that

00:39:45we become people that we don't want to become not true i don't have any problems because i have the holy

00:39:49spirit see she's talking from a person who doesn't have the holy spirit she's trying to talk to a

00:39:53person who doesn't have the holy spirit who's not saved because i'm listening to the lord i'm not

00:40:00gonna go to the airport with things that don't fit because the holy first say that's not gonna

00:40:04they're not gonna accept that bag

00:40:07holy spirit are gonna have me looking like a fool i'm gonna know oh they're not gonna let me take that

00:40:13i'm gonna put that in another bag because it's the truth so because she can't preach you she gonna

00:40:21make it up that the lady's handing off her problems someone else i don't have no problem to hand off

00:40:27because god takes care of me that's what it means when i say god takes care of me it means all of me

00:40:31nothing's left out including my preparation he prepares me ahead of time

00:40:38he tells me he answers my question before i ask so if something happens a hiccup i'm gonna say oh

00:40:47lord what do i do forgive me lord lord because if it's not happening smoothly i know he's not with me

00:40:52so what are you talking about i'm always there on time i get the deal i get the special i get the sale i

00:41:01get it and i get it's a lot of it too it's my cup running over when i'm there so i know what you're talking about

00:41:13or they will say oh not a problem with me it's not a problem i'm not a burden on anyone they make it happen

00:41:20for me the bag will be sitting up with the pilot so i know what you're talking about that's how god rolls

00:41:27what about you oh you got a demon on you so she's not feeling that see it may look like that on the

00:41:33outside but only she knows how it's going on behind the scenes that's why i got to point you out as a

00:41:38false prophet he didn't call you things that we don't want to say we do things that we don't want to

00:41:41do and it's because we've been distracted by our demands and our spirits are disturbed

00:41:46my sphere is not disturbed overload doesn't just exhaust your body it wears down your soul the third

00:41:53thing is is that demands distract us from what matters most martha wasn't necessarily doing

00:41:58something wrong she was serving jesus the king of kings and the lord of lords but in doing that she

00:42:03missed the opportunity to simply just be with jesus that's the danger of demands though they don't

00:42:08always show up as bad things many times they're good things that just slowly crowd out the very best

00:42:12thing you see martha wanted to feed jesus that was her whole desire was to make sure that jesus was fed

00:42:16but mary you don't know her desire see it's a lie

00:42:23like we don't know your intent to sit on that stage is really because you want popularity you

00:42:27want to make money you don't know her desire was to what to show that she's winning all by herself

00:42:34we don't know if that was her desire only jesus knows why she was really in there doing all that work

00:42:40by herself maybe because she wanted a round of applause maybe because she wanted to hurry up and wrap it up

00:42:46for the night maybe maybe maybe we never gonna know only god knows her heart

00:42:53but mary was at his feet why she was listening closely why because she loves him period

00:43:00to be fed by jesus martha wanted to host jesus and all mary wanted to do was hear from jesus

00:43:06martha wanted to serve jesus and all mary wanted to do was to be with the one who saved her soul

00:43:11these demands distract us from what matters most you and i can spend hours scrolling on our phone

00:43:17through social media through apps through websites and then we'll have the audacity to say that we

00:43:20don't have time to read our bible or time to pray the reality is we have all been given the same 24

00:43:25hours in a day and we get to choose what we do with those 20 what is she not saying that she's what

00:43:30is she missing she's not listening to her assignment you can pray all day but you're not listening to

00:43:38your assignment

00:43:44you're not repenting

00:43:47you must repent you must repent for your sins the sins that cross your mind the sins that's in

00:43:53your thoughts or if you could say the name of jesus that's not the lord if you say the name of jesus

00:43:58when the devil tempts you with the distraction

00:44:04not because of the distraction of of of what your children are doing or distraction of satan

00:44:13so she's saying she's thinking that it's happening on the outside but where's the distraction

00:44:17it's from satan she doesn't know because she's not listening it's not her assignment

00:44:25she assumes that that's that's what it is but it's not it's the carrot you want this and she

00:44:33bit you want fame and fortune go ask if you can preach at this church even though you're not called

00:44:38and tell lies have lie have truth see it's something's missing from what she's saying the truth

00:44:43for hours we'll show up early for work we'll show up early to the gym we'll show up early to the

00:44:49practice but then when we tell you that church starts at 10 a.m central standard time we're nowhere

00:44:54to be found what we have to see what it is that we're prioritizing demands don't just keep us busy

00:45:00they keep us distracted jesus said that mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken from

00:45:05her mary's focus was on was on one thing the presence of jesus he gave her something that no

00:45:11distraction could ever steal away so you may be saying right now it's okay i understand that

00:45:15amberley i'm distracted by my demands i clearly see what is she not saying there about about mary

00:45:23it was a choice she chose she chose god she chose jesus you're not choosing jesus right now ma'am

00:45:32you're choosing self self-glorification look at me i'm a pastor i'm a preacher and i'm up here

00:45:40preaching and getting all your attention the child of god even though i'm not chosen by god himself

00:45:45but i'm gonna talk about him though a lot of demands in my life and i'm fully distracted by them

00:45:48what do i do so what to this it's always going to be you got to do it bills shopping cleaning your

00:45:56children your your marriage those things are going to happen anyway you have to rebuke satan out of

00:46:04your life she's not saying that because she's not rebuking satan because you're dealing with her

00:46:10that's why god point you out ma'am you're a false teacher false prophet he didn't tell you to teach

00:46:14your children because you're not you don't have what you need in your backpack you have all those backpacks

00:46:19but you don't have the backpack from the lord encourage you this morning i want to give you

00:46:25some very practical solutions on when you feel like the demands are distracting you from the

00:46:28thing that matters the most your relationship with jesus what do you do and i want to take you to what

00:46:32the bible says is the greatest commandment in scripture if you look at matthew 22 verses 36

00:46:37through 39 it says this teacher which is the greatest commandment in the law the pharisees are asking

00:46:42jesus this so jesus replied to them love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul

00:46:48and with all your mind this is the first and greatest commandment and the second is like it

00:46:54love your neighbor as yourself so the greatest commandment the bible makes it pretty simple is

00:46:58to love god to love his people and to love yourself well if you are wondering am i a maturing believer

00:47:03am i a believer who is growing up in jesus ask yourself how well do you love how well do you love

00:47:09god how well do you love the people that are not lovable the people that are rude the people that cut

00:47:12you off on the highway how well do you love those people and then last but certainly not least how well do

00:47:16you love yourself you are a temple of the holy spirit so how are you taking care of the one and only body

00:47:21that god has given you what is it that you're doing to show yourself love because you can't

00:47:25love others if you don't love yourself well but here's the thing we keep adding on these ethereal

00:47:30bags if you will saying that i have to be married by the time i turn 30 i have to have a house by the

00:47:34time i turn 32 i have to have x amount in my savings account or i'm not worthy enough i'm not valuable

00:47:38enough my house my apartment has to look instagram ready so that i can post it on instagram at any given

00:47:42time and we put these unnecessary demands on ourselves but jesus says mary has chosen what is better mary sat down

00:47:49her demands and chose the one thing that she could actually carry and that was her devotion to jesus

00:47:54so i think about when you go to an airport so for those of you that may not know i have spent the

00:47:57last 25 years traveling back and forth to africa i can't somebody asked me the other day how many

00:48:01times you've been to africa and i think i'm on 38 i think i've kind of lost count so 38 times i've been

00:48:06in a lot of airports i've been on a lot of airplanes i've seen a lot of suitcases i've seen a lot of

00:48:11crazy things happen at an airport and you still being disobedient one of my favorite things to do is to

00:48:16watch no it's not really favorite it's kind of sad but whenever people check in their suitcases

00:48:19it's like they've packed their whole house in a suitcase and you're only allotted 50 pounds and

00:48:24the kitchen sink is 72 so it can't go with you on the trip right so people will be it's just a

00:48:29panic situation in an airport people are unzipping throwing out shoes and dresses and an iron and it's

00:48:33like what what would you gonna do with that in africa in the first place like i'm telling you right

00:48:36now the last thing you're gonna be worried about is if your clothes are ironed or not and so people are

00:48:40getting rid of the things that they can't because they have to consolidate down to what is manageable

00:48:43and to what can be carried and when i think about the greatest commandment in scripture being to love

00:48:47god love people and love yourself that's manageable that's meaningful that's life giving but when you

00:48:53take on all of this this is not manageable this is not meaningful and it's certainly not life giving

00:48:57so what do we have to do ma'am you have to take on those things but guess what with the holy spirit

00:49:02you won't feel it but you're not saying that you're not saying what they truly need to rebuke and

00:49:08that's satan you're not saying that at all this sounds like some kind of

00:49:14just like a woman's group that's how the thing looks but whatever god's not in it because he

00:49:21didn't tell you to do this because it's just all over the place sporadic you in the airport like i

00:49:25don't care because you're not talking about your relationship with the lord

00:49:31which is most important that's the most important thing that you can share we have to decide how what

00:49:37we're going to carry and we have to carry what counts so i think i'm going to subtitle this message

00:49:41it's the distractions of demands but carry what counts because if you think about it whenever

00:49:46somebody is at the airport and they're having to consolidate all of their items down just making

00:49:50it up see how she just made that up as she went along goodbye the holy spirit won't let you do that

00:49:57oh gosh the thing about that's important to understand about demands is demands are seasonal

00:50:02not every demand that you have experienced in your life right now is necessary in every season there are

00:50:07some things that are absolutely going to be required of you you're going to have to work in

00:50:09order to pay your bills what are you about to do non-negotiables but trying to plan the most epic

00:50:14first child's birthday party with all of the matching decor and having elsa there to sing let it go is

00:50:19not necessary having everything look like a pinterest mood board is not necessary you have unnecessarily

00:50:26added things to your life that jesus never asked you that's what she's doing this is how she feels

00:50:30about no remember they started to talk about their own life because they're a false prophet okay see

00:50:37i'm not allowed to talk about my own life when the holy spirit speaking through because my own life

00:50:43has these things like what she's talking about she's trying to connect with you but the holy spirit

00:50:48doesn't need to pretend i'm not going to talk about my own thoughts and perspectives and my

00:50:58things that she's talking about because the holy spirit has more than enough to tell you that's going to

00:51:02help you what she's talking about and trying to make you understand she's already said it already but

00:51:13instead of just saying that's it she doesn't want to do that she wants to draw it out just to keep your

00:51:17eyes on her for attention with that demon however you say the name of jesus don't watch a false teacher

00:51:22false prophet teach you because it's not from the holy spirit it's from her ego she wants to be up

00:51:26there so bad that she's gonna do anything use props to just keep your eyes on her for money and for fame

00:51:34or something stupid first birthday party gonna make you a super cool parent sure are these kids gonna

00:51:39remember it no absolutely not and all it's gonna do is stress you plum out and cost you a lot of money

00:51:44so these are seasonal not everything needs to be with you there are certain things that you can take

00:51:48out and certain things that you can leave with you and then the beautiful thing about jesus is he

00:51:51allows us every day because his mercies are new every single morning he allows us to come back to

00:51:56him every day and submit does this need to go with me or does this need to stay i feel very overwhelmed

00:52:00by this does this go or does this stay and if we spend time listening to the one who should really

00:52:04be writing the agenda and the plan for the day then we'll know what needs to go with us and what needs to

00:52:08to stay but it's a constant submission to jesus and i think oftentimes what we do i know i'm guilty of

00:52:13it is i'm like i'm i got i got this i can do all of this i absolutely got then what happens is someone

00:52:18actually needs me i'm in target on aisle seven buying cluster lashes so they don't have to be

00:52:22glued in just stuck in just learned about those by the way and i see a woman who looks completely

00:52:28distraught and the spirit of god is tugging on my spirit so heavy and really you have what she needs

00:52:34how in the world do i stop doing what i'm doing and make any space or any margin for that woman

00:52:39when i'm like uh ma'am can i pray for you just stretch out your hand

00:52:46let me pray for you it makes it virtually impossible to allow god to use you when your

00:52:51hands are this full so what i submit to you is we're going to carry what counts so we're going to

00:52:56pick up the things we're going to ask god we're going to take this to the lord lord what goes with

00:52:58me in this season and what doesn't mia definitely needs to eat so i'll make sure her lunch goes with me

00:53:04and i'm going to consolidate this down to something that's manageable something that's meaningful

00:53:08something that's life-giving so that as i go about my day i can be exactly who i need to be for the

00:53:16people that god has put around me i can fully love and worship god i can fully be attentive so what is

00:53:21she saying that means she has to get prepared i don't have to get prepared because the holy spirit's with

00:53:25me because only the holy spirit knows what's down that path and what's coming towards me so all i

00:53:32have to do is be happy and joy and be in obedience that's it she's saying you need to pack your bag

00:53:37no i don't god makes my backpack and put it on my back the holy spirit speaks out the truth i don't

00:53:43need to be prepared now in real life of course yeah i'll pack my backpack that's what you're talking

00:53:49about right going to africa right okay yeah you're packing your bag but when it comes to my life what

00:53:54are you talking about see there's a question there they're like oh okay i have to be prepared

00:54:01duh everything she's talking about is something that we do automatically

00:54:06you're gonna make your children school this and that tell me something i don't know

00:54:12prophet but you're not this is why because what you're saying we already know already

00:54:18people that are around me that need his love and i can fully love myself well

00:54:23and when i think about the scripture i want to read the lord always tells me something new and fresh

00:54:27like this you're a false prophet you have a demon on you you're not called to teach

00:54:31prophesy to the children of god i don't care how much money you made already or you're trying

00:54:35to make it's coming to a dead end it's gonna dry up you're not allowed to talk to us because

00:55:21say that there is a burden it does not say that the burden is absent but it promises that the burden

00:59:54phone is so much louder there are secrets and mysteries and things that he wants to reveal to

01:00:04and the distractions that you are experiencing on that phone are completely nulling and voiding any

01:00:08discernment no the holy spirit if i touch my phone or not is with me and if you touch your phone or not

01:00:15why because holy spirit is with me

01:00:21the phone can't get in the way i understand what she means but since she doesn't have the holy spirit

01:00:27i mean people say that who's not even teaching the word they say you know

01:00:30you should put your phone down and people say that all over the world put your phone down so

01:00:34okay you know but she's a false teacher there's nothing that can get in the way

01:00:40and distract me from god why because i love him god doesn't want your fake love he wants your

01:00:48genuine praise and your real heart and if you give him your heart there's no phone that can get away

01:01:29okay now what our culture our phone has become such an idol that it would take place of the one who hung

01:01:40to say than the one who died to save our souls we have to prioritize the presence of god when you

01:01:48start your day centered and grounded in the presence of god it changes the flow and the function of the

01:01:53rest of the day you can't expect direction from god while entertaining every notification from the

01:01:57world or from your phone you see here's the thing silence in our culture feels like emptiness if your

01:02:02house is quiet and there's nothing happening it feels empty to you like that's one who's not saved

01:02:07see she's not talking to the child of god she's talking to people who are lukewarm there is no way my

01:02:11phone could get my attention i have been watching something and i feel the holy spirit and i turn it

01:02:18off like stop it i feel okay it's time for me to that's it and it happens to you too you save right

01:02:27of course you know that you're not gonna go look on your phone ignore the holy spirit what are you

01:02:30talking about tell that to some teenagers this is now you're talking to who who's she talking to put

01:02:40your phone down like duh maybe wasting time you're not busy you're not producing you're not doing what

01:02:48you need to do but in the kingdom of god silence isn't emptiness it's access when you choose to put

01:02:55your phone on do not put your phone down and still not talk to the lord so be quiet see stop playing

01:03:01like you a pastor or a teacher or a preacher prophet but you're not this is why

01:03:10there's nothing that can stop god from getting to you

01:03:20okay because god can just turn that thing off if he wants your attention so stop it

01:03:24he doesn't have to god moves with love if god starts talking to me while i'm doing something

01:03:29i turn it off and listen that's it he knows that i will bam i'm not gonna keep keep music on something

01:03:36when god starts talking to me i'm gonna turn it off why because i love him i respect him i honor him

01:03:40my mind body and soul belongs to him i turn everything shut down when he starts talking so what

01:03:47are you talking about that's because you know they're not listening to the lord they're not actually

01:03:52in communication with him whoever you're talking to because the one who loves the lord knows better

01:03:59so who are you talking to it's not about shutting people out it's about being intentional with who

01:04:04and what you let in the same is true in our spiritual life silence isn't isolation it's intentionality

01:04:10it's saying right now i am focusing on the one thing that matters the most and here's the beauty of

01:04:14this god rarely shouts over the noise he speaks in a whisper but it's whispers that only those that are still

01:04:21can hear that's a lie he may talk lightly but he's not like yeah he doesn't talk like that he sounds

01:04:32like god the second thing is practice focus you guys know the word of the year this year is focus

01:04:37we're getting focused in every area of our lives and my encouragement to all of us is that we have

01:04:41to get to a place where we stop multitasking everything that we do and do one thing and do it

01:04:45with all of our hearts i think about just in a normal day if there's a zoom call or a zoom meeting

01:04:50and it's like while people are on zoom or in a meeting they're scrolling through social media

01:04:53they're checking their emails they're checking their text messages they're adding something to

01:04:56their amazon cart to have it delivered between 4 a.m and 8 a.m tomorrow morning they're multitasking

01:05:00and they think i'm sorry what that multitasking is making them more productive but the problem is

01:05:06is multitasking doesn't make us more productive it makes us more distracted more drained and more

01:05:09divided even when our families when we're sitting around watching a movie together there's multiple

01:05:14screens people are watching different things we're all in the same room together we're all watching the

01:05:17same thing and yet we're all completely divided and not really even spending time together

01:05:21we brag about multitasking as if it's a superpower as pastor bree says that happens a lot so it's like

01:05:30everyone if you want to spend time with your family ma'am just talk just you know do that do that thing

01:05:34but what does that have to do with my relationship with the lord we wear busyness as a badge of honor

01:05:40but busyness doesn't equal fruitfulness it's just a fancy word for being really distracted all the time

01:05:45the third thing is is you have to protect the priority so guard that one bag whatever that

01:05:52one bag is your time with jesus your family whatever that is you are to guard that as if it

01:05:56was a non-negotiable life will always be willing to add more bags to you so you have to guard the

01:06:01one that's important to you you have to block off time for it for your life for your health for

01:06:05your spiritual wealth even pastor mike i don't know if you guys follow him goodbye don't talk about

01:06:09google i'm following on social media nobody cares they always bring up social media because

01:06:12that's what you care about you just said not to worry about it now you're talking about it

01:06:15see that's the holy spirit all the spirit is in control now you want to know who i'm following like

01:06:21stop i don't need to worry about my life because i'm obedient to god he takes care of the rest

01:06:27i mean it's like a symphony talking about god here everything's in order in my life

01:06:34the holy spirit's with me what do you think that means that means i'm going to be doing things

01:06:39in order oh i should do this i should do this do that that's what you want to talk about

01:06:44like everything is working smoothly i'm learning god tells me things about my life that even make

01:06:50things easier for me and so i do it and it works like so what does i do my relationship with that

01:06:56i have to be obedient to the lord and he takes care of the rest social media but just a few days ago he

01:07:00posted something so powerful about how we have to get our finances in order and if you don't have

01:07:04money you should be talking with somebody who has money to teach you how to use money so that when you get

01:07:07money you know what to do with money she all over the place time for that and so work is always

01:07:12going to have deadlines friends will always have expectations for you and culture is going to

01:07:15continue to pressure you so when you protect the priority when you're protecting the one thing

01:07:18that's the most valuable and most important to you what does that mean that you're doing it means

01:07:21you're saying no to the things that need to be said no to and you're saying yes to the things that

01:07:24need to be said yes to let your yes be yes and let your no be no and for some of us very practically

01:07:30that means we need to start time blocking maybe for some of you that's a cuss word maybe for some of you

01:07:33you don't know what that means but if it's for me if it's not so we went from so this is an organized

01:07:37organizing

01:07:41sermon about how to organize your life oh she could have made this into a video and not

01:07:48talk to children of god you know why because maybe that's what she should be doing because

01:07:51she ain't supposed to be doing this because that's not with you have a dealing with you for false

01:07:54prophecy go make a video about it on your modern living channel or something do like all the other

01:08:00women do they don't talk about god they say they love god and god blesses them in their

01:08:05what their gifts are but this isn't it stop trying to make this your assignment when it's not you don't

01:08:12have what you need in your backpack it's too much it's all over the place it's scattered people

01:08:16don't forget what you said and that's probably a good thing it doesn't happen and so i have reached

01:08:24the stage of life like i told you the beginning where i schedule intimate fellowship with my husband

01:08:28because i know that that's important to our marriage and to the health of our marriage

01:08:31and so it has become a priority so it goes in my calendar working out my gym appointment that i

01:08:35have every morning it goes in my calendar so that it cannot be missed i know you didn't just tell us

01:08:38that you schedule that with your husband to all of us the children of god we don't want to hear that

01:08:47see it's inappropriate he doesn't like respect the the marriage bed my quiet time with god it is in

01:08:57there every single day now does it happen at the same time every day to know to know that you're

01:09:01scheduling that is very uncomfortable and it's not the holy spirit you make everyone very uncomfortable

01:09:07now when they see you see your marriage they're gonna know that it's not that it's scheduled

01:09:13but it's part of my daily oh my gosh i'm embarrassed i'm embarrassed you're not structured

01:09:18in time blocking i would encourage you that's how you remove some of the distractions that's very

01:09:21uncomfortable like why would you that's that's a demon make you look crazy see that's a demon

01:09:27the lord will let you reveal that to us that's none of our business ma'am

01:09:32my lord that you're scheduling that why why would you do that i know she may be feeling humiliated

01:09:41because that's a demon humiliate you like that that you have to schedule that that's not

01:09:47honey you need to repent repent for false prophecy false teaching that demon is going to run you crazy

01:09:55and ruin your life your life's going to go down that could be your marriage that could be your business

01:10:01whatever it is because god what god you're being embarrassed you're embarrassing yourself that's

01:10:11you running your mouth like that about your marriage bed that's no that's no one's business

01:10:14that's not going to save us by hearing that information stop it's creating a more structured

01:10:19environment for yourself it doesn't mean you have to always live in that structured space but it may

01:10:23be the exact ground that it may be the exact foundation that you need to be successful

01:10:26so you have to you have to set the right priorities i think about um again going back to just traveling

01:10:33and being in and out of airports whenever i see people condensing down those demons hate you

01:10:39they're going to take you to hell and they're going to embarrass you and make you look crazy

01:10:44and that's what it just did that's like i pointed this video you're a false teacher false prophet

01:10:49and you're going to wonder to yourself why did you you may try to play it off too

01:10:53oh it's okay no it's not like no one needs to hear about your marriage bed

01:10:56okay it's inappropriate that's that's between you and god like stop

01:11:05iron is not going to africa with us or the 17 boxes of oreos there literally was one woman one

01:11:09time who packed 17 boxes of oreos and i was like oh she's really sad there's not going to be american

01:11:11chocolate when we get to africa but um as i see people pulling things out of their bags i realized

01:11:15do you hear this do you do you hear that i was like oh the holy spirit

01:11:24that's not the holy spirit everyone's doing essentially the same thing they're keeping in

01:11:28their bag what's most important to them and they're pulling out the things that they could they could

01:11:31probably do without for the next two or three weeks they don't necessarily need those items

01:11:34and that's all i'm saying to you this morning is there's a lot of things that you could keep there's

01:11:38a lot of things that you could take there's a lot of expectations that you could meet and a lot of

01:11:42demands that you could fulfill but does it all does it does it all need to go with you is it all

01:11:45meaningful does it all produce life does it give you that that joy and zeal and passion and fervor

01:11:50for life that god desires you to live in the book of john says if the enemy comes to sit here if i

01:11:54didn't love you man repent god loves you that's why he exposed you with the demon okay if you continue

01:11:59this he's gonna come to some come to an end it's gonna dry up false prophecies boss teachers

01:12:06god's gonna point you out because he's not with you and he wants you to be with him you have to repent

01:12:11for false prophecies so you remove the demons so you can be saved and destroy but jesus comes to

01:12:17give life and life in abundance and so this morning if you're experiencing a non-abundant life if you're

01:12:23worried and overwhelmed and anxious i want to submit to you that it's possible that the demands that are

01:12:28in your life are not actually demands but they're decisions and we all have a choice you can choose to

01:12:36cancel netflix i know that's a shocking statement to make but you don't have to have netflix

01:12:42if that is if that is distracting you from spending time with god or causing you to stumble in ways you

01:12:47didn't even know you were going to stumble then i would submit to you you don't have to have it wrap

01:12:50it up you don't have to be all things to all people you don't have to show up to every birthday

01:12:55party that you're asked to go to you don't have to go to every baby shower you don't have to go to

01:12:58every event every text message that you get doesn't need a response every dm that hits your inbox

01:13:02doesn't need a response it doesn't make you a bad person yes it means you're focusing

01:13:10as i was preparing this message i just realized that some of the demands that i feel like that

01:13:13are demands in my own life are really just decisions that i've made and the beautiful thing

01:13:17about god is he gives us the chance and the opportunity and the choice to assess he's so kind

01:13:22and he's so gentle and he won't make us do anything that we don't want to do but he'll wait tenderly

01:13:27and lovingly for us because at the end of the day see that's that demon she heard a music and she's

01:13:33still talking just like what's his name talking for three hours what's his name it was this

01:13:40ridiculous because it's a demon they want to keep your attention on them so you get that demon about

01:13:44martha and mary jesus was there no matter what he wasn't going anywhere he was waiting for martha to

01:13:50come and stir her little heart up and tell tell him how bad her sister was but he wasn't going anywhere

01:13:55and the thing that i love the most about jesus is he handles both personalities at the same time

01:14:00he handles mary sitting there resting in his presence and he handles frank or anxious frantic

01:14:05martha at the same time and he doesn't yell at her he says martha martha why are you so worried

01:14:10why are you so anxious i know sometimes in the homes that we've grown up in that's not maybe the

01:14:15type of parenting style that we even heard and as i was just thinking about some of the demands that we

01:14:19have in our life like what is it that makes us feel like we have to do so much and if you really

01:14:23think about your own life it comes down to probably more than likely how you were raised

01:14:27you either saw parents who were workaholics it don't matter how you raise the holy spirit

01:14:32takes care of me see what she's saying come down to how you were raised yeah but when you get saved god

01:14:42wraps his arms around me and he saves me from what from me thinking that my life is who i am and

01:14:50that's not true i'm a child of god so it doesn't matter about how you're raised working there you

01:14:58know working till late hours of the night to provide everything for you or you saw parents who weren't

01:15:01and you knew you didn't want to be like that so now you've turned this opposite you've gone the

01:15:05opposite way and i remember as a kid i cannot count on one hand how many times i heard the word the

01:15:09sentence i'm proud of you it just wasn't a sentence said in my home and i'm convinced it's not because my

01:15:15mom wasn't proud of me i think it's because she never had it said to her so she didn't know how to say it to me

01:15:21and so those words i'm proud of you never ever echoed in my childhood it's a choice

01:15:28look people make choices abuse is a choice

01:15:35and you can say they were abused no they chose to

01:15:39they chose to abuse because there's people who've been abused who never abused their child

01:15:43why because they made the choice not to it's a choice

01:15:46it's not something that's handed down it's not anything like that it's a choice that you make

01:15:54i'm not going to be like that person because who's my mother my father god is

01:15:59not my actual mother and father

01:16:04my mother and father is god so how they treat me is not an excuse for me to treat someone else that way

01:16:10i don't really like that so i'm not going to do that to mine that's a choice

01:16:20and i'll never forget as an adult i got my my degree got into the workforce and i maybe heard

01:16:25like good job old buddy old pal a couple times but i never really heard that i'm really proud of you

01:16:31so when i entered into my real estate career full-time i'll never forget the first year that i was in real

01:16:34estate i sold over 10 million dollars worth of real estate which in oklahoma is a really big deal

01:16:37because we sell like houses for little money compared to like florida and california tc nation

01:16:40i try to give you some perspective and i remember my broker called me and he's like man amberley

01:16:45i'm really proud of you and you know what that did to me instead of it making me feel all oogly

01:16:51googly on the inside and warm and fuzzy i was like oh that was the affirmation i've been looking

01:16:54for my whole life i will always produce at this level i will always work to the bone i will always

01:16:57work and i will always sell and i will never stop and i will never give up and you will not find me

01:17:01sitting down and anyone who sits down is lazy and if they're not working 40 plus hours a week

01:17:0460 plus hours a week then you're lazy and you're not using the gift that god has given you and this

01:17:07ugly thing grew in my heart because i finally received the affirmation that i needed and it

01:17:12came from what i produced and so i realized in submitting even this sermon to god that the

01:17:17demands that i've placed on myself are coming from little six-year-old amberley who just wanted

01:17:22someone to say man i'm proud of you and this is not how you get god to say i'm proud of you

01:17:27it's by being

01:17:37hoping to listen to his voice to tell you your assignment not going off your own desires he

01:17:43knows your desire he put it there but you're running down trying to be make this your desire

01:17:49this is not this is not it you just want something that benefits it when you're doing that money fame

01:17:55but this is not bringing joy because what you're talking about the things that you've said is not

01:17:59from the holy spirit you have to listen to the voice of the lord he will tell you directly what's

01:18:07for you and you wouldn't have said that if that was the holy spirit you would not have

01:18:12welcomed us into your private information of the marriage bed that is no one's business

01:18:17and the other things that you've said about fighting that's not the holy spirit

01:18:25god is not mixed with evil and have you share that part of yourself that is private

01:18:35we're paying for false prophecy false teaching you're not called you want to you want to make

01:18:40god proud by doing this be obedient and listen be quiet and sit down at his feet and listen

01:18:49to what you're really supposed to be doing because that will bring you joy and that will bring your

01:18:52desire and so this wasn't part of my message but i want to be obedient to the holy spirit

01:18:56no it's not it's you one more time one more camera time

01:19:03and there are people in this room that never heard i'm proud of you either you say you can absolutely

01:19:07relate to that in fact you heard phrases maybe more like you're worthless you will never measure

01:19:14anything and i just am here to tell you you are worthy you are valuable you are seen by a god who

01:19:21loves you endlessly and you don't have to produce you don't have to perform you don't have to do

01:19:26back who's she talking to herself you get to just simply be with him and he loves you just because

01:19:32there's people in that audience have heard that all the time from their parents they hear it all

01:19:36the time you may even tell that to your kids all the time but she's talking to herself and only god

01:19:43can tell them what he want to tell them in the secret place you can't tell them that you want

01:19:48because you are his child

01:19:52not saying god doesn't love you right but saying that she's really trying to feed her own ego it's all

01:20:00all about her and so this morning my invitation to you is simple i'm gonna have everyone stand in the

01:20:06room no thank you

01:20:11what i have found is that

01:20:15rarely match the deepest needs of our soul they probably need to stand

01:20:20so i'm gonna ask you what is it what bag is it that you need to sit down what bags is it that you

01:20:23need to leave behind so you can really focus on the thing that matters most i have no doubt in my

01:20:30mind that in a room this size and with people watching from all over the world that there are

01:20:33people that are just tired you're weary you're overwhelmed you're anxious your life looks when

01:20:39you start listening to the lord and you don't know let's say you don't know your assignment you're

01:20:42watching right now of course you're watching duh and you like i don't know my assignment

01:20:48you go sit alone wherever you are wherever you are alone talking to the lord is secret place

01:20:54and you wait you listen and he will guide your footsteps

01:20:59if you can't listen to god tell you to make a laugh then he's not going to keep trying to

01:21:07tell you something when you just disobeyed him you have to repent i'm sorry i didn't listen to

01:21:12you you're right i should have went left i repent for not listening i'm gonna listen

01:21:17more please forgive me and you wait for the next assignment or the next instruction because if you

01:21:23don't listen he's not gonna just keep giving you more and more more you have to wait and you have

01:21:26to do things right like a parent would

01:21:42you're like oh i didn't listen you know but when you begin to listen and he's right you know you can

01:21:55that's how it happens he'll tell you because you're being obedient in the little things

01:21:59do this do that do this with the holy spirit repent for your sins

01:22:07and start to listen to him ask him work should i do this or this

01:22:12i don't know what i should do then he'll start to answer your question that's how you build a

01:22:19relationship with the lord like all of those bags and today he says come and if you want to do things your

01:22:25way you want to do things your way you always do it your way you you only pray at night or something

01:22:31like that so throughout the day talk to the lord that's not a relationship you should be talking to

01:22:35him morning noon and night and i will give you rest and so this morning that's my simple invitation

01:22:45to you the worship team's going to come they're going to play they're going to sing and we've got

01:22:49the altar team that's going to be down front they're going to make their way down now even

01:22:52and we've got people who want to partner in prayer with you okay so we're going to stop it here is

01:22:58your choice yeah we're going to stop it here okay you guys well i hope she gets a host of your pen
