00:00In El Salvador, leaders and members of several progressive churches, together with the movement of solidarity with the Venezuelan people, joined in a World Day of Prayer for Peace.
00:11The meeting took place in the Divina Providencia Chapel, the site of the martyrdom of St. Oscar Arnulfo Romero, a symbol of social struggles in the region.
00:21Attendees expressed their support for the Venezuelan people following the armed attack by the United States on January 3rd.
00:28In addition, the event included a special petition for the release of President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro and also First Combatant Celia Flores.
00:37The International Anti-Fascist Movement, together with churches in this country, has organized this day of prayer to coincide with the global theme.
00:54We have done so in the name of peace, freedom, and self-determination for all peoples, and also for the important cause of the freedom of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Celia Flores.
01:07We are asking the Creator for peace for our America and that there be no further military intervention in our region.
01:14We are also going to pray for the souls of the Cuban martyrs, those 33 men who gave their lives defending President Nicolás Maduro.
01:22As a church, we are praying that the people of Venezuela may truly experience peace, but with social justice.
01:38At this time, we are concerned about the situation in this sister country in our region, as churches.
01:44We call for dialogue so that lasting solutions may finally be found to this conflict, which has affected an entire people for many years, enabling them to find a democratic process.
02:04How sad that on January 3rd there was an invasion in Venezuela, but not only in Venezuela, also in us, because we are brothers and sisters, and that saddens us, but there are also other invasions, such as in Greenland, and other countries.
02:24So yes, it is a concern, and sometimes, as a church, if we are divided, we feel alone, we feel powerless, but as I said before, at this moment, we are gathered here praying for Christian unity.
