00:00Does Trump's Board of Peace really have authority beyond Gaza?
00:07Last week, Donald Trump announced what he called the greatest and most prestigious board ever assembled.
00:13Officially, the so-called Board of Peace is meant to oversee Gaza's transition and coordinate reconstruction funding.
00:19But reports of a leaked charter reveal much bigger ambitions,
00:23steering conflicting narratives and misinformation online.
00:26A leaked text from the time of Israel showed the board is defined as a stand-alone international organization
00:32with a peace-building mission not limited to Gaza.
00:35Trump, named as the future chair of the board, has reportedly extended invitations to leaders across the globe,
00:41from Russian President Vladimir Putin to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
00:46Membership would be by invitation only, with permanent status costing $1 billion.
00:51How would it sit alongside the United Nations and how much power would it have?
00:58If we're asking, will it have authority in terms of the global or legal framework,
01:03I would say hardly, even taking into consideration what seems to be the purpose.
01:09Will it have authority by the fact of authority?
01:12It will depend on who will be there and what will be the actions.
01:16If that becomes a way of managed territories, even if they're not allowed by the UN or whatever rule,
01:25well, they will have authority, the fact of authority, even if they don't have the jure.
01:29Other experts say the Board of Peace could, in theory, become a multilateral arrangement
01:33if other states formally signed its charter.
01:36But that alone would not grant it real legal authority.
01:39For now, the Board's only internationally recognized mandate applies to Gaza
01:43and it runs until the end of 2027.
01:46The bottom line is that the Board of Peace wouldn't have a legal power to operate worldwide
01:50without new United Nations approval or widespread state consent.
