Eyewitness videos shot from a helicopter on Thursday showed landslides that had occurred in northern New Zealand due to heavy rain, including one at a campsite in Mount Maunganui, a popular tourist spot on the northern coast of the country.
The aerials included a video which showed rubble that had slid off a hill near the campsite on Thursday and damaged structures and camper-vans below. Several other landslides were also seen in footage from the helicopter.
Rescue workers are searching for several people missing, including children. The heavy rain caused widespread damage and also left thousands without power.
