Terrequip is a family owned, Australian business focused on regenerative mining practices.

00:00I'd like to think that we've created something that comes in when these
00:09resources have expired and creates new development, new ideas and new industry.
00:14Mining is a big thing in Australia and we'd like to keep it going.
00:18Jerequip is a Queensland based family owned business involved in mining,
00:25mine rehabilitation and mining services. The projects that we take on and the
00:30projects that we operate are designed to have a future beyond the end of the
00:36life of the mine that will exist, that will continue to function for many years
00:41into the future. Regenerative mining for us is about providing for the needs of
00:47today while considering what are the needs of the future. All stakeholders
00:53involved in mining have a real responsibility to ensure that that
00:57site beyond the end of mining is safe, stable and non-polluting. So we own the
01:04mine and we take on full responsibility for that rehabilitation and refinement
01:08going forward. Rehabilitation doesn't always have to mean closure.
01:13Regeneration might be for us to find some extra resource or potentially look at
01:18different markets to create a new future for that mine, but it also can mean
01:23agriculture. It could be cropping, it could be livestock, green energy,
01:27solar, wind, even water. It could be a number of different things.
01:33Jerequip operates a number of different sites around Queensland and in Victoria. We've got some
01:38limestone products, some bentonite products, kaolin and also some quarry products.
01:43They are used in agriculture, they're used in construction, they're used in exports for
01:51manufacturing. The common use of all these products is the fact that they are located
01:56in key areas where communities need them. We export into about 14 or 15 countries in Asia.
02:03We do see that as a big growth area for our business. That's one of our big focuses over the
02:07next couple of years. We're very excited about not only the conventional markets that we sell into,
02:12but also the future ones. We're constantly developing new products. We're constantly
02:17working with customers on different things that they require. We can change the chemistry of a
02:21product to suit their need without a lot of us. We're quite flexible, quite nimble in what we do.
02:27The more we support the local suppliers in regional Australia, the longer they live there.
02:32We can't all just pack up and go and live on the coast. There's towns out there in Queensland and
02:37all over Australia that were built on the back of one single mine and when the mine's not there,
02:41what does it do? I like to think that we've created an environment where people want to come and work.
02:46I always try and instill in my upper management that you're no different than the guy that's
02:50driving the tractor because without the guy that's driving the tractor, you haven't got a job.
02:54I've never heard someone say that's not my job. From the managing director all the way down,
03:00everyone's willing to pitch in, have a go, learn, make mistakes, but figure them out and go forward,
03:06and everybody really enjoys working. I've been in the industry all my life and we've been extracting
03:13resources out of this country for a long time and we've got to give back. The future of mining
03:19is changing and we really want to be a part of how that's going to look in the next five to ten years.
03:26The ultimate goal is for us to relinquish and hand back a mining project to government while having a
03:34business that will sustainably exist beyond the end of the life of the mines.
