00:00Do you think Europe can stop the U.S. president?
00:03Are retaliatory tariffs enough to deter Donald J. Trump?
00:08I think I'm even less capable than Will of getting into Mr. Trump's head.
00:15But I think the key thing here is not whether the U.S. can take Greenland
00:25if it wants to do that by military means, ultimately.
00:29The question is, what would be the consequence of that?
00:32The unambiguous consequence of using military means to take Greenland
00:38would be the end of the NATO alliance,
00:41which would be, for the reasons we discussed, an incredibly bad idea,
00:46both for the United States, even if it would hurt Europe even more.
00:49Perhaps it would, perhaps it wouldn't.
00:51I think on the way to that, there's obviously lots of other steps
00:58in escalation, whether that is retaliatory tariffs or other things.
01:01I think just because the European leaders have been a little bit more circumspect
01:08about how to speak about this and have approached it with a bit less bluster
01:13doesn't mean that this isn't taken extremely seriously.
01:20And I think the most important way in which it's taken seriously is,
01:24until now, the understanding of most of the European leaders is that
01:29Trump isn't a huge fan of NATO, but understands that this is important
01:32and, you know, this is not something he wants to break.
01:34Thank you for listening.
01:50What else are you saying?
01:50Because if you want to take possession of NATO we don't know discover to the top
01:54of our lefts or other investments like this.
01:57Let me know.
01:58Here's the whole thing.
01:58It was 14 seconds.
