00:00A total of 31 ball kids is set to take part in the WTA 125 Philippine Women's Open,
00:06which begins with the qualifying rounds this weekend at the renovated Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
00:12About 60 applicants underwent a recent tryout session to assess their ball handling skills,
00:18including rolling and passing, as well as speed and agility tests to evaluate their movement on the court.
00:25Their teamwork and communication skills were also carefully reviewed.
00:28According to Junior Tennis Initiative National Coordinator Gerhard Bernard Mamawal,
00:34having a regular ball kid program in the country is a great idea,
00:38especially if the Philippines hosts more professional tennis tournaments in the future.
