00:00Let's just examine that idea that you just floated past us there, that the United States is serious about potentially using military force to seize Greenland.
00:09Were that to happen, how would your country respond?
00:13Well, then our troops up there would have to fight back against the Americans and we would have a war between Denmark, the United States and hopefully allies would be on our side as well.
00:24And NATO would melt down completely. It should be a completely unthinkable scenario.
00:30But unfortunately, it's a scenario that right now we can't rule that out and it would be such a disaster and one of the dumbest wars in history.
00:41Is Denmark prepared for a prolonged confrontation with the U.S. over Greenland?
00:47We're fully aware of the size difference between our countries.
00:50They're 60 times bigger than us. So, of course, they can destroy us and kill our soldiers.
00:57But that's not going to change our position.
01:00We can't give up land and people to a country that has absolutely no right to it.
01:06And there isn't a shadow of a legitimacy behind it.
01:10We just can't do that.
01:11So, we will oppose this with everything we have.
01:16And it doesn't matter if we're threatened with tariffs or military invasion or nuclear weapons.
01:23That's not going to change our position.
01:26We're not giving into that.
01:27We want to talk to the Americans about what we can do for them in Greenland.
01:31The door is wide open.
01:32If they have concrete mining projects in mind, they're more than welcome.
01:36And as I said before, the military access has already been given them.
01:40So, they can actually have as many bases up there as they want as well.
01:43But Greenland must be run by the Greenlanders.
01:46And they do not want to become Americans.
01:48They want to stay with Denmark.
01:50And they want to run their own country.
01:51Would you say, I mean, you're speaking just from the Danish Parliament.
01:55Would you say the entire political establishment, the whole spectrum of Danish political parties and politicians and Danish society are fully united when it comes to the issue of Greenland?
02:08Are there any polls or any figures you can offer us?
02:12We're completely united in the Parliament.
02:15We have 179 members, including some from Greenland.
02:18And there isn't anybody that wants to hand over Greenland to the Americans.
02:23And it's the same in the Greenlandic Parliament.
02:24Their local parliament, where they have 31 members, it's 31 members that don't want to become part of the United States.
02:31They're crystal clear about it.
02:34So, there's no way we're going to agree to that.
02:37And it's not a matter of a price or negotiation or anything.
02:40Americans are talking about, well, if they give a lot of money to the Greenlanders, no.
02:45People are not selling their countries.
02:48And certainly not to someone who keeps threatening with military force to subjugate them.
