Toyota announced a U.S. recall of about 1,025,000 vehicles due to a Panoramic View Monitor software fault that can disable backup cameras and violates federal safety standards. The Toyota recall traces the issue to the Parking Assist Electronic Control Unit software in 2022–2025 Toyota bZ4X, Camry, Crown, Highlander, RAV4 and Lexus ES, GX, NX, RX models equipped with the Panoramic View Monitor. Unlike over-the-air updates from Tesla, Ford, or Polestar, Toyota requires dealership repairs. Industry data indicate software-related issues accounted for 44% of recalled vehicles in 2024, and insurers report such defects comprise up to half of automotive recalls. Toyota directed owners to verify recall status via VIN on Toyota.com/recall or the NHTSA database, with notifications by late December 2025.
