A power outage on major train lines in Tokyo, Japan, caused widespread disruption, affecting around 673,000 commuters during the morning rush hour. Services on the Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines were suspended for nearly nine hours, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at stations and on trains. Some passengers were evacuated directly from trains stopped on the tracks. Railway operator JR East said services fully resumed by early afternoon. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the outage, which also impacted several other rail routes.
