Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge says the threat of tariffs by US President Donald Trump is “totally unacceptable,” condemning the use of trade measures against allies. Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on the UK and other European countries unless Denmark agrees to allow the United States to purchase Greenland.

00:29of tariffs for countries that that stand up to that I mean it's totally unacceptable and I think
00:33that you know I hope that the wider American public congressman etc recognize that and of
00:39course the administration so so look we mustn't get ahead of ourselves President Trump has come
00:44out with things before and then taken a different course the key is to engage as closely as possible
00:48so I'm pleased that the Prime Minister has spoken to him but we need much more of that engagement
00:53because I think here in Parliament I think there's strong unity that he's doing the wrong thing here
