00:18It's Philly's favorite Asian baby girl.
00:21It's Mandy Mango.
00:23Oh.
00:24Hey.
00:26Hello, gorgeous.
00:27Hello, baby girl.
00:29Doing very good, doing very good, wow.
00:31Welcome to my beautiful, my humble abode.
00:34Thank you for welcoming me here, wow.
00:37Like what you're watching?
00:38Well, be sure to click like and subscribe.
00:41Yes, well, welcome to hello, hello, hello.
00:44Now, first things first, I have a question for you.
00:47Where were you when you first got your call
00:50for RuPaul's Drag Race?
00:51I was at work.
00:52I was on break and I saw I missed a call
00:55and I saw it was from California,
00:56so I was like, let me go back right now.
00:59Yes, absolutely.
01:00And then they gave me the news.
01:01And luckily I was like, wait, give me just one hot sec
01:03to go to this quiet corner and scream over here.
01:06How many times did you, um, audition?
01:09Once.
01:10One time.
01:11One time.
01:12Give me a high five, baby.
01:13It's a one-time club.
01:14Yes.
01:15I gotta give my one-time, girl.
01:16Yes.
01:17I gotta give my one-time club sisters a high five
01:19because we didn't know.
01:20And girl, I almost did audition.
01:21We didn't know.
01:22Yeah.
01:23Like the week of, I was having a panic attack
01:26and was like about to give up.
01:27Mm-hmm.
01:28And I just talked me back into it
01:30and helped me get my tape together.
01:31And I submitted my tape two minutes before the deadline.
01:34Yeah.
01:35The confirmation email landed right at midnight.
01:38And I was like, it's in.
01:39We're good.
01:40That works.
01:40And then the calls came in.
01:41That is amazing.
01:42Congrats to you.
01:44Well, here you are, Diva.
01:45You made it.
01:46That one audition tape that you almost weren't gonna do
01:50got you here.
01:51Gaggy.
01:51And guess what?
01:53Now we're gonna watch it all together.
01:54Are you ready?
01:55Yeah.
01:57Let's look at do it.
01:58Let's do it.
02:04Oh, yes.
02:05Oh.
02:06Oh, wow.
02:07Oh, you give us a little bit of everything, huh?
02:09OK.
02:11Oh, Miss Mango.
02:13I'm coming to you from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
02:15at the age of 27.
02:17And I perform under the name Mandy Mango.
02:20Philadelphia's favorite Asian baby girl.
02:22I am sweet.
02:23I am sexy.
02:24I am smart.
02:25And I am credentialed.
02:26That's right.
02:27I am an RN, BSN, ACRN.
02:31All those letters mean that I am an HIV specialized
02:35registered nurse.
02:37She works hard for the money, hey.
02:40Ow, ow.
02:41What is it like balancing the life of drag
02:45and the life as a nurse?
02:47I know that can't be easy.
02:49So tell me more about that.
02:51That's a good question.
02:52In the beginning, it was really like a lot of code switching.
02:55Yeah.
02:56It felt like I could only be one or the other.
02:57When I was a nurse and I didn't want to give too much drag
03:00personality because people wouldn't take me seriously.
03:03And I didn't want to give too much nurse personality as my drag
03:05persona because people were taking me a little too seriously.
03:08Yeah.
03:08So I think now I've really been privileged to work with other queer people of color who
03:14have shown such great examples of how to be authentically queer in a professional space.
03:19Yeah.
03:20And like own that and help you with your job.
03:22Absolutely.
03:23So tell me, what was your vision when filming this tape?
03:26Did you have like a vision of how you saw it?
03:28I wanted it to be authentically me.
03:32Yeah.
03:33I wanted to give a really strong first impression of what I represent.
03:37And what I represent is a lot of silliness, a lot of femme, and a lot of heart.
03:44Yeah.
03:45And I just really wanted to show like me at all my best.
03:49So I think I, I think I got to show that a little bit.
03:53I want to talk about one of the looks from your tape specifically.
03:57A look inspired by my mom who won best evening gown in Miss Baguio, Philippines, 1987.
04:04There you can see me and my brother recreating this picture from the pageant for her birthday.
04:09My family is such a huge inspiration behind my drag.
04:12So I'm so fortunate that they accept and love my drag and love to also sissy that wall.
04:18Actually so amazing.
04:19It's crazy being at this point in my life because when I first started doing drag, I had to stay
04:25up late until my parents went to bed to practice my mug because they really, they thought it
04:30wasn't professional and they thought I wouldn't get hired as a nurse if I was doing drag.
04:36And then I didn't stop doing it.
04:37They saw that I was making money and I clearly was good at it.
04:40So to be able to share my love to my parents with this artistry, have them receive it so
04:47well, and then have like my brother also be involved and like just like super receptive
04:54to it.
04:55Yeah.
04:56Yeah.
04:57blessed to like have my family because they're just a huge part of my drag.
05:02That's amazing.
05:03And I feel the same way about how I think about my family in drag.
05:08Like, I don't think I would be able to continue doing this if I didn't have the unconditional
05:12support of my family.
05:13And knowing that that's not the case for everybody, I'm even that much more grateful for my life
05:19and my relationship that I have with my family.
05:21Yes.
05:22And I'm glad you have that too.
05:23Did your mom have any advice for you as a pageant girl before going on to the show?
05:30My Filipino immigrant mother was like, boy, that's the PB.
05:35You're going to, you're going to fight with the girls.
05:38They're going to be like jackasses.
05:41And I'm like, yeah, mom, I'll give it back to them if they give it to me because we're
05:45strong Filipino women.
05:46Yes.
05:47No, but overall, if you told me just hydrate, rest and stand up for yourself.
05:53That's right.
05:54What do you think was your best moment in your tape?
05:57Whoo.
05:58I would say it's my talents.
06:00The talent?
06:01Because I was, as I was putting that together, I was obviously in like a rush and like really
06:06nervous.
06:07Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:08When I was putting that segment together, I was like, oh shit.
06:10Mm-hmm.
06:11I got a lot of talent.
06:12Yes.
06:13I got a lot of videos to show here.
06:14Because I was like, I do burlesque.
06:16I whack.
06:17I vogue.
06:18I do comedy.
06:19I can act.
06:20I do like spoken word.
06:21So like, I was like, oh, wait.
06:23I can do all this.
06:24Yeah, yeah.
06:25Let me shut this off.
06:26And do you have a cringiest moment in the video?
06:29I'd say my cringiest moment was like my supermodel walk.
06:33The supermodel walk?
06:34Because that was one of the videos I was shooting the week of.
06:37Kind of like with anxiety in my head.
06:40Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:41Tried to sell it, but.
06:42Oh my God.
06:43Well, you sold it, girl.
06:44I could not tell.
06:45Thank you, love.
06:46And girl, you know what time it is?
06:48Whoo!
06:49The library is now open.
06:51They didn't put the open sign in the front of the door.
06:53And it is time to look at some of the reads you had from your favorite RuPaul's Drag Race girls.
06:59I am literate, so let's see.
07:05Pandora Box.
07:06You know, the real reason I'm here is because your insurance company paid me to be your personal nurse so you don't fall and break the hip again.
07:12You're costing the U.S. healthcare system thousands of dollars.
07:15You ate that.
07:16Yeah.
07:18Kimchi.
07:19I understand why they call you kimchi.
07:22Your drag smells fermented and it makes me want to shit.
07:26That is hilarious.
07:29We love a good kimchi.
07:31Right?
07:32Yes.
07:33It just cleaves our stomach right up.
07:35Clear it out.
07:36Cleanse.
07:37Maddy Morphosis, I truly think it's so iconic how you represent that anyone can do drag.
07:43Anyone.
07:44Anyone.
07:45Anyone.
07:46My favorite.
07:47My favorite so far.
07:48Anyone.
07:49Thank you, Maddy.
07:50For opening the doors.
07:51Opening the doors.
07:52Dead.
07:53And do you stand by these reads?
07:54I do.
07:55I do.
07:56I've had to shit from kimchi.
07:57And I do think that thanks to Maddy anybody can do drag.
08:00And-
08:01And Pandora box is at risk for breaking a hip.
08:02Yes, and if she needs one, she knows what to call.
08:19I, you know, here's an arm, Pandora.
08:21Oh, the library was open!
08:23But were the books worth checking out?
08:26Comment below.
08:28Baby, since we are in this reading vibe,
08:31we are going to keep it going and keep the vibes going.
08:33And I got a couple rapid fire questions for you.
08:37Are you ready?
08:38Do not think too long because it ain't that serious.
08:41Who was the biggest flirt on the show?
08:43Athena Dion.
08:44Ooh.
08:46Who do you text with the most?
08:47Didi Fuego.
08:48Ooh.
08:49Who are you taking out of the group chat?
08:52Prior Bush.
08:54Who had the best entrance look?
08:57VWT stars.
08:59And when you walked into the work room,
09:01who was your biggest competition?
09:03Juicy, Juicy Dion.
09:05Who is the most delusional?
09:09Didi Fuego.
09:12Who's the messiest?
09:14Sierra Mist.
09:16My favorite question, who is most likely to crash out
09:19on social media?
09:21That is honestly very easy, and that's Athena Dion.
09:25Yes.
09:27I know I'm not the first person to say that.
09:30And my next favorite question, and it's all love here.
09:35Who probably should not have auditioned this year?
09:39Let's say Briar, because I don't know if her body was ready.
09:45Where does she get off?
09:46And there you have it, folks.
09:48Briar, cut it.
09:50It was so good to freaking hang out with you, Mandy.
09:54You are truly the baby girl of Philly.
09:56And congratulations, bitch.
09:58It's such an honor to meet you.
10:00Thank you, honey.
10:01I appreciate it.
10:02And I'll see you around.
