03:55You know there's a stat to bring up about these turnovers five for Houston they have only seven points off those five turnovers New England does and that came on the interception returned right for the touchdown by Marcus Jones if the defense has had a chance to be out there after a turnover the Patriots have not put up any points defense is doing everything humanly possible to keep the Texans in this game second down
04:25and 12 Stevenson not much third down and long coming up Naquan Jones making the tackle again you know in New England they can't protect Drake May so now you get to third down I'll be interested to see what Josh McDaniels does I got to believe he's going to chip these edges and give Drake May a little bit of time or he's going to get the ball out quick
04:49I think what we've been watching as far as back there holding the football I can't imagine we're going to see that right now
04:55one for nine on third downs
04:58are the Patriots
04:59it's third and eight
05:01safe play
05:02Stevenson
05:03no chance
05:05and Stingley came up to knock him out and that that play call right there tells you how much respect Josh McDaniels has for this Houston defense I mean it was I don't want to say a give up play but it kind of was
05:19there wasn't much opportunity to pick that up just get the ball out you kind of ask yourself if the Patriots do nothing more than run the ball three straight downs and punt
05:28the problems that Houston's had just maintaining possession of the football would that be enough to win and not so sure it wouldn't be
05:35so it's another stop by this Texans defense after a turnover and that's the sixth straight third down stop by Houston
05:42as bearing has been busy in a fair catch hauled in by the rookie
05:48Jalen Knoll
05:50we are in New England
05:52it is a raw day here on January 18th
05:56divisional playoff game Texans ball down eight
05:59swarm city defense for the Houston Texans and that brilliant game at Pittsburgh today
06:1021 points allowed
06:12they've been outstanding after their offense has turned the ball over
06:17third downs last week two for 14 third downs in this game one for 10
06:23so they've held the Patriots to after shutting down the Steelers and now it's Houston's ball at their own 41 down eight
06:31handed off
06:35and Chubb
06:37his knee goes down with a gain of three
06:40you know you watch this New England defense I mentioned it earlier in the game how they've been sitting on routes
06:45Craig Woodson was earlier in the ballgame and watching it now they
06:49the defense continuing to just collapse on this offense and we saw one shot that Stroud had
06:57and they got the pass interference penalty on Carlton Davis at some point they got it
07:02they got it kind of kind of opened it up they're playing coverage here
07:04he's got to open it up a little bit try to get them off
07:07Stroud keeps play action floats it over the middle and it was up for grabs again
07:13as Hutchinson drew a crowd Carlton Davis and Craig Woodson combined
07:19and the Patriots had a chance at another pick yeah and so Craig Woodson
07:24number 31 you're gonna see as he comes up to make a play on this ball
07:28that he almost intercepts it when he comes up he's sitting right there he's reading the quarterback
07:35a double move a dig route in route and go route but something now you got to protect if you do it
07:43but they're primed for a for a double move at that level and would be there
07:49they're down in seven Stroud sideline one-handed try and a flag
07:55Jaden Higgins was the target Carlton Davis
07:59may be guilty of his second pass interference of the Knights in his third of the playoffs
08:05and he is
08:08yeah there's a grab and that's interference defense number seven
08:13the ball replaced that spot of the foul automatic first down
08:17that's the grab it was a good call he's trying to be subtle about it
08:21he was actually in really good position Stroud thought there was a hold as well
08:25he saw the flag he likes it
08:27but that
08:28that's what Nick Cayley the offensive coordinator that's what he's thinking
08:32hey let's let's get a deep shot
08:34I just think if they do some kind of double move in the middle of the field
08:39the way these safeties are biting on everything they've got a chance for a home run
08:43all three penalties for the Patriots are against Carlton Davis
08:50who also has two picks Stroud protective
08:54Stover can't make the catch
09:03the chance to catch the ball and had some room out in front of them to run and
09:07and
09:08it's just one of those instances where
09:11Stover getting more opportunity now with the injury to
09:15Dalton Schultz but there's a look at it if he's able to catch that he's got he's got some room to
09:22to make a play and
09:23get a new set of downs Stroud's completing at 44 percent in this game
09:30second down and ten
09:34pressure off the edge
09:36and down he goes and got a big hit at the end of it from Christian Ellis
09:41Anthony Jennings was down there
09:46and Caleb on chase on came around the edge
09:50and now Jennings slow to get up
09:54and they're going to give him attention as he takes a knee but there was nowhere for Stroud to go
10:00well they look like they're going to come in the gaps here they pull out and they rush for
10:04and he would have had to have just taken off immediately but with a four-man rush they collapse it on top of him and again
10:11I hate to be repetitive but the safeties continue to just sit on every route
10:17and not honoring anybody running past them
10:20so they'll check on Jennings we'll take a break
10:26it'll be third down and long when we come back
10:29what a great sign they are back around here in Foxborough that tremendous run with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady
10:40now Mike Grable head coach quarterback Drake May
10:43Anthony Jennings was able to get up and get to the sideline under his own power
10:47it's third down and 13 for the Texans
10:52anything he can do to add to or shorten the distance on a field goal attempt
10:58Stroud
11:00low throw it was a catch
11:04but way short of first down yardage
11:07is Hutchinson
11:09this was close to an incompletion let's take a look
11:13yeah this is a nice job by him being able to come back and
11:16and
11:16even make the play
11:19good catch
11:20and that will bring about a 51 yard try
11:24that was a big five yard pickup
11:26on the catch by Xavier Hutchinson
11:28Fairbairn
11:31to make it a five point game
11:34and the young man from Hawaii on this cold raw night in Foxborough is able to knock it through from 51 he's three for three on the night
11:48this is a five point game on Thursday February 5th the stars will be out in San Francisco to kick off Super Bowl 60
11:58find out who will take home the games most prestigious awards with host John Hamm
12:05don't miss NFL honors on NBC and NFL Network
12:08we've seen a number of throws from CJ Stroud that that looks like they've gotten away from him it's hard to tell exactly with the weather continues to fall here at Gillette Stadium but throughout this game Joe we've noticed that he's been he's been looking at his hand and I'm not so sure that he doesn't have some type of injury that has affected some of the throws that that he's attempted in this game as well it happened very early in the game and I'm not so sure that he doesn't have some type of injury that has affected some of the throws that that he's attempted in this game as well it happened very early in the game.
12:35You wonder how close he came to getting replaced in this game by Davis Mills after that rough first half he came out through the ball well to start this second half but any more trouble and I think D'Amico Ryans would be at least tempted to go with Davis Mills who had three starts during the regular season as part of this long winning streak the Texans are on.
13:00there's a big reason why they ended up with a record of 12 and 5 in the number 5 seed in the AFC playoff picture
13:07there Darren hits it the Ernest Johnson will return it
13:13this ninth game as a Patriot
13:16is
13:19on this return going to be
13:23out to the 30 let's send it down to Laura
13:26well Joe as Troy just mentioned CJ Stroud did hit his hand a couple times you see it happen there on the helmet of the center
13:33Jake Andrews looking at that throwing hand never received medical attention on the sideline for this at all one thing they have talked about just now the weather has turned into snow prior to this and really in the first half it was all rain making it very slick
13:47there's a lot of relief actually for this Texans offense CJ Stroud in particular it could be easier to throw in the snow Troy you've mentioned
13:54that as well here is one drop to Hooper and the tight end with a catch and run
14:00and just the seventh first down all game for the Patriots on offense who over their last four drives
14:09coming into this one did not have a first down they have struggled offensively as well
14:14they put a little pressure on them certainly with the field goal to cut it to a five point lead and what was Josh McDaniel and Drake May going to do with it that's a good start picking up a new set of downs to go back to
14:24what Laura was talking about it certainly becomes easier if it's not
14:28rain and it's snow falling
14:31you should see these quarterbacks trip the football better
14:34they put May on the move and he gets brought down from behind by Daniil Hunter
14:39who put his big arm around the head and neck area
14:44Drake May as he went down it's going to go as a sack as there's no gain on the play at Big 55
14:51had a full head of steam
14:53he sure did and Drake May when you look at his body of work this year running the football
14:59he scrambled more than any quarterback in the NFL
15:02he's certainly a threat as we've seen over the course of the season with his legs
15:08that'll do it for quarter number three and the big edge rushers
15:18Anderson and Hunter combined five sacks defense for the Texans keeping them in the ballgames
15:23it's a five point game
15:25eight turnovers in this divisional playoff
15:29in the fourth quarter we go
15:31at the moment six teams remain alive
15:41in the playoff picture around the National Football League
15:44the two number one seeds have advanced to the conference championship game
15:48the winner of this game will head to Denver
15:51the winner of the game tonight between the Rams and the Bears
15:54will go to Seattle
15:56second down and ten for Drake May who swings it out to his right
16:03Stevenson is dragged down by Toho Toho
16:06and if you don't know by now then you have like a rotary phone
16:13because we found out late last night Sean Payton came back to the podium and told everybody
16:19that it was a break in the ankle for Bo Nix and that means that Jared Stidham a former fourth round pick
16:26by these Patriots is expected to start the AFC champ game
16:30it'll be his fifth career start his first appearance in the playoffs
16:37trying to get the Broncos to the Super Bowl
16:39May on third down and eight contact and a flag
16:43Booty is brought down by Stingley
16:53pass interference defense number 24
16:57the ball replaced that slide to file automatic first down
17:00you see that grab the right hand got on the left shoulder
17:04a booty and that's just the second target against Derrick Stingley in this ball game
17:09he has not given up a completion
17:12but they catch him for the penalty
17:13and that's that's a big penalty against them
17:15given New England
17:18a new set of down
17:1917-yard penalty to be exact
17:30handoff to Henderson
17:32spins his way to the 32 again of six
17:37Dylan Horton made that tackle
17:39Patriots trying to get something going for Josh McDaniels offense
17:43it's been a slow game
17:45for his offense and this is the quarter the Texans have dominated
17:50during the season plus 78
17:53with the point differential in the fourth quarter on Monday in Pittsburgh
17:57plus 23 second and fourth
18:03Henderson
18:05Toho Toho
18:06and Al Shire for good measure
18:08both get on him in a loss of one
18:10Wow
18:12we showed earlier in this ball game New England
18:15the way that they've been able to hit it
18:17watch Toho Toho
18:19and he recognizes it
18:20sees that crease and he's right there in the backfield
18:23and then Shire he's there to finish him off
18:25we've seen some outstanding defensive play
18:31from both these units
18:32Camigo Ryan's told us about Toho Toho
18:34he's been tackling great
18:36and he just showed it right there third and five
18:39Anderson coming off the edge
18:42May steps into it
18:43takes a shot down field
18:45and caught
18:47for the touchdown
18:48Keishon Booty
18:50Wow
18:51amazing job
18:53great throw outstanding catch by Keishon Booty that's some of the things that we've seen from him throughout this season and what has been a breakout year I mentioned Stingley was targeted just one time through the first three quarters twice
19:09on this possession he got called for the penalty and then they take him deep for the touchdown can't do it any better than number nine did right there
19:27The ruling on the field of the touchdown is under review they're going to take a further look to make sure that ball did not move when Booty went to the ground and the ball hit the deck did he have control here's exactly what they're looking at to make sure the touchdown will stand we'll get the call when we come back
19:56what a try by Booty what a catch if it stands
20:07what a catch by Keishon Booty during the break
20:10they confirm touchdown for number nine
20:14and in the category of they have a stat for everything that is his first career one-handed catch in the NFL as the extra point by Borigala sneaks in
20:24and this is a 28 to 16 game let's go back to this catch in this route on a night where nobody can seem to hang on to the ball this is some catch by Keishon Booty
20:38and actually the coverage by Stingley is good I mean he's stride for stride with Booty and it's just a perfectly thrown ball where only Booty can try to make a play on it and then he does I mean as you
20:50as you mentioned Joe the one handed catch not an easy play for him to make he has really done a lot of good things throughout this season and couldn't come at a bigger time for the New England Patriots and that extra point that they just
21:04kind of squeaked in there and that inside that right upright that's huge to make this a 12 point game versus an 11 point game shout out to Shane Marshall our camera operator down on the field was so proud of our entire crew that on this cold
21:18and that's a wet snowy night in Foxborough the work that they've done here tonight and all season long our season will conclude here tonight and then CBS and Fox will have the championship games NBC tonight in what should be a fun one at Soldier Field between the Rams and the Bears well we'll see there's still 12 and a half minutes to play and I don't want to I don't want anyone to leave him from our viewing audience but that might have been the knockout punch
21:46that touchdown there well Texans better come up with an answer right away here's more on the return tries the fourth side and he is brought down by Brendan Scholar one of the best special teams players in the NFL a return of 18 yards and now all eyes go to number seven and CJ Stroud second half has been better first half was rough with the four interceptions
22:12starting at their own 23
22:14starting at their own 23
22:24cost of marks
22:36nice gain on first down Carlton Davis forces him out and a gain of four well we have seen the Texans run the football better in this second half which is why we've seen more production than offensively they put they brought Blake Fisher in they just took him off the field so they the first down play they've got six offensive linemen and they ran away from him but a positive game but that as I mentioned that's been a personal
23:06a personal grouping overall this year that's been good for them
23:13second down and six good protection Stroud airs it out he's got a man Higgins who cannot adjust incomplete
23:28covered by Christian Gonzalez in the Pro Bowl corner was there for the Patriots it's third and six
23:37that was an excellent job because he had a step and if they were able to get the ball out just a little bit more Higgins you know he's got a chance for a big play and these conditions are hard on the bottom of the screen and look here's a hold at the bottom and I was looking for a flag that's right in front of us Joe and it's Charles Woods who was
23:57who was grabbing Christian Kirk I thought we might see a flag but nothing I thought we might see a flag on the coverage by Gonzalez downfield who was facing away from the quarterback defending and ran into Jaden Higgins who was coming back for the throw but no flag and a timeout is taken by the Texans on offense before the play clock expired and before this third and six the 39th annual WWE Royal Rumble
24:26the Royal Rumble is set for Saturday January 31st in Saudi Arabia stream it exclusively with ESPN unlimited plan live or on demand using the ESPN app log in with your TV provider to unlock your access coverage begins at two o'clock Eastern that's on Saturday January 31st in Saudi Arabia and now a third down and six and now the Texans are down to one timeout remaining
24:55as they trail by 12 points here in the fourth quarter yeah so I was gonna say Joe these timeouts boy they're a real commodity when you get in the second half of the game like this they burned the first one of this half early in the third quarter
25:07on third down Stroud has to escape to his right throws behind Stover incomplete
25:23and Stroud threw behind Stover and now Stover is rolling around Graham and his leg
25:32grabbing his leg they're already down Dalton Schultz and now their backup Cade Stover who broke his foot back in week one is injured on this
25:45leg got stuck
25:52let's take a break
25:54snow has been coming down throughout it is fourth down for the Texans Cade Stover needed help getting off the field it's a 12 point game Texans about the punt
26:12Patriots may have gotten away with a pass interference on Christian Gonzalez on a second down throw to Jayden Higgins incomplete on third down on a ball that again got away from CJ Stroud Stover hurt here's the punt by Townsend
26:19and it's going to stop and what an effort downfield as it's held inside the five is Tremont Smith got down there got a hand
26:36Субтитры сделал DimaTorzok
27:0669-yard punt, just perfection.
27:10Here's the hustle by Tremont.
27:15Yeah, that's good stuff.
27:17That backs them up a little bit.
27:18Maybe this defense can do something to get them back into it,
27:21but at least they've got New England backed up.
27:25Good work by Tommy Townsend.
27:27See what Josh McDaniels has on that call sheet.
27:30He'll want to be very conservative down here at this point.
27:35High formation behind May, and a hand is to Ramondre Stevenson,
27:40and a big gain on first down as he's able to get eight.
27:45Yeah, I'll say they go two back, and they just turn around
27:48and hand it off to the big guy.
27:49He rattles off eight yards.
27:52You can see the look on D'Amico Ryan.
27:55He knows what an opportunity they have right here with them backed up,
27:58but to give up eight yards on first down on a running play out of a two-back set
28:03is not what he expected to see.
28:05We good with that kid not wearing a shirt down there on a day like this?
28:12You're not going to see that kid at school for a long time.
28:15Here's Stevenson over the right side.
28:21Two carries by Ramondre Stevenson,
28:23and first down and some breathing room for New England.
28:25Yeah, and you kind of feel it.
28:27Like, if I was Drake May right now,
28:28I'd try to get the guys in the huddle,
28:30even though you're wanting to take time off the clock.
28:33But after those two runs against this group,
28:36that offensive line's starting to feel it a little bit.
28:38I'd lean into that some
28:40and give the ball right back to Ramondre Stevenson
28:42until Houston proves that they're going to be able to stop it.
28:46I wouldn't have taken this much time right now in between these plays.
28:49Only the third rushing first down for New England in the game.
28:53And they need it.
28:58Lake blocked down to two.
29:00Back to Stevenson, and they're going to ride him.
29:02And why not?
29:04Al Shire went for a little ride after that initial hit
29:08and a gain of eight.
29:09Yeah, you can feel it.
29:11And you can feel it when you've seen it.
29:14And for me, I've certainly experienced it
29:16with a big physical offensive line
29:18and, of course, handing the ball off
29:20to the all-time leading rusher in Emmitt Smith.
29:22And once those guys start to come off the ball
29:25and they get movement,
29:26especially now that we're in the fourth quarter,
29:29ten minutes to play,
29:30man, I'd keep feeding it to him.
29:33They do again.
29:34Four straight.
29:35First down.
29:38Gain of three.
29:43I mean, that's a big back you're talking about.
29:46When they go with Travion Henderson,
29:47he's 200 pounds.
29:49Ramondre Stevenson, you know,
29:51he's 25, 30 pounds bigger.
29:53So he can start wearing on a defense in a hurry.
29:56He fumbled a lot early in the season.
29:59Three over the first five games,
30:01all lost.
30:02Talking about Ramondre Stevenson,
30:04none over his last ten.
30:05He missed three games with a toe injury.
30:11He stays in.
30:15They hand it to him again.
30:17Do you think Vrabel likes this?
30:19Henderson get that one.
30:22So they're just handing the ball off.
30:23Ramondre Stevenson, four straight.
30:25Now they get Travion Henderson,
30:27and nobody loves this more than Mike Vrabel.
30:30I guarantee you he's loving every minute of it.
30:32You know, at his core, this is what he's about.
30:34Running the football, mashing people up front,
30:37and against this Houston defense.
30:39I mean, they have held on and held on as long as they can,
30:42and, you know, the dam is beginning to break.
30:45Henderson stays in on second and four,
30:51and they get to him again.
30:53Well played.
30:54And up to make the stop is EJ Speed.
30:57Big linebacker, 6'4", 227, a loss of three.
31:01And that brings up third down.
31:03That was an important play for this Houston defense.
31:05Really big play.
31:06Somebody has to be able to step up
31:07and then kind of just stop the momentum,
31:10and EJ Speed is able to do that.
31:12So now you back him up a little bit, third and seven.
31:15This is a key third down.
31:17Now I'm sure Drake May is going to be very careful
31:19with where he goes with the football.
31:22But a first down here,
31:23they're going to rattle off another couple minutes off the clock.
31:29Third down and seven.
31:30May complete.
31:33Diggs.
31:35He's got a touchdown in this game,
31:37and he's fired up with that 14-yard catch for a first down.
31:40Well, you know how much this game means to him
31:43going against this former team in the Houston Texans.
31:45This was a ball that got away from Drake May,
31:48but great body control at the top of this route
31:50as Diggs comes out of it.
31:53To-o-to-o, he's in coverage.
31:55A number of times in this game,
31:56we've seen C.J. Stroud throw behind
31:58with either interceptions or incomplete passes.
32:01This one behind, coverage not as tight,
32:04and Diggs is able to make an adjustment for the catch.
32:06Extra offensive lineman back in.
32:09Thayer Munford.
32:12Stevenson gets it,
32:13and Petrie makes the play.
32:19A loss of two.
32:23Jalen Petrie, you're going to see,
32:25he's the extra guy,
32:26and they feel like, well,
32:27they're running away from him.
32:29Maybe he won't be able to get in the backfield
32:31to make a play,
32:31and he just hits it full speed,
32:34and boy, what a year he has had.
32:37And every Texan fan is thinking about the timeouts.
32:41They had to use two.
32:42They had to use one a moment ago
32:44when they couldn't get the play in
32:46and get the play away.
32:48They have only one left.
32:51Second down at 12.
32:57Stevenson again.
32:58Third down.
32:59Kind of the same situation
33:06that we just spoke of
33:07on their prior third down,
33:08that if you make a stop,
33:10they're going to be punting,
33:11and you get the ball back
33:13with an opportunity,
33:14even though you only have
33:16the one timeout down two scores.
33:18You get another first down,
33:19take more time off,
33:21and they'll pretty much put this one away.
33:23This drive started at their own four
33:26with 11.57 to go.
33:29We're going to go under six.
33:32Third down and eight.
33:34Here's a shot.
33:35Williams.
33:38Incomplete no flag.
33:40It's fourth down.
33:42Good coverage by Kamari Lassiter.
33:43Really good coverage by Lassiter.
33:49It looked like at the last minute,
33:50maybe there was a little separation,
33:52and maybe they might be able to come down with this catch.
33:55Just not able to quite locate it.
33:58I know there are no points on this drive,
34:02but that was a productive drive,
34:03starting at your own four,
34:05getting the ball up near midfield
34:07and trying to pin Houston back.
34:10Down by two scores,
34:1244 yards,
34:13and covered six minutes.
34:15And over and punt,
34:21Noel.
34:22Fair catch.
34:23That's a 12.
34:29Well,
34:30excitement tomorrow night.
34:31Don't miss the CFP National Championship game.
34:33730 Eastern on ESPN as Miami takes on Indiana.
34:38We'll have pregame coverage all day.
34:40And be covered for the game on every platform,
34:43TV,
34:43radio,
34:43digital.
34:44So many ways to watch and listen to the biggest college football game of the year.
34:49Indiana favorite against Miami playing at home.
34:56First down for Houston.
34:59Stroud.
34:59A lot of contact with the tight end.
35:03That's Harrison Bryant,
35:04the only tight end they have left.
35:06And it's Craig Woodson,
35:08the rookie safety,
35:09who was defending no flag at second down.
35:12Yeah,
35:12just tight,
35:13tight coverage.
35:14And you wonder what a difference Nico Collins and Dalton Schultz would have made for this offense
35:20had they have been healthy.
35:22But I'll be curious when this game's over,
35:25if in fact,
35:27CJ Stroud's dealing with a hand injury.
35:29Here is Bryant.
35:34Let's go down to Lisa.
35:35Yeah,
35:35Joe,
35:36the Patriots defense may have to finish this game without corner Carlton Davis.
35:40He's back in the locker room with a potential head injury.
35:42Questionable to return.
35:44He's got two picks in this game,
35:46Carlton Davis.
35:49Third down and one.
35:51The conversion,
35:52it's Bryant again.
35:53They lost Dalton Schultz to a calf injury in the first half.
35:59Stover a little while ago to a knee injury.
36:03Both top two guys are officially ruled out.
36:06They're down to Harrison Bryant.
36:07On first down,
36:09CJ Stroud can't find anywhere to go,
36:11so he throws it away.
36:13You know,
36:14I've mentioned it a few times in this game.
36:16We've seen a lot of split safety looks from New England,
36:19and the safeties yet have played really aggressively.
36:22And when they've taken their shots,
36:25they'd be in Houston,
36:26they've taken them on the outside on the go routes.
36:28And I keep going back to if you could start on an in-breaking route at 18 yards,
36:34dig route,
36:34and then double move it and go up the field.
36:38They're primed because they've been so aggressive.
36:41Here they are here.
36:42They're playing shallow,
36:43and they're just primed for a big play against them.
36:48On second and ten.
36:50Broken up.
36:51Great coverage by Gonzalez.
36:53Got his hand in front of Xavier Hutchinson.
36:55Kevin Xavier never had to get to him.
37:00It's third down.
37:02Yeah,
37:02this is outstanding by Christian Gonzalez.
37:05As he comes up and he's making a play,
37:08and man,
37:08they are fortunate to have a guy like him.
37:11And we know that what Houston has in Stingley and Lasseter,
37:14but for Gonzalez,
37:16it would have looked a little different had he not have been able to play tonight.
37:25Third down and ten.
37:29Stroud is going to be sacked by Tonga.
37:40It's fourth down.
37:43Tonga did not have a sack all season long,
37:46and on this night after missing three straight games with a foot injury,
37:53he gets the sack,
37:54and now a punt is coming from Houston.
37:58Yeah,
37:58I'm surprised they're punting the football.
37:59I think their only chance to have any chance in this ballgame is they've got to go for it,
38:04but
38:04and they only have one timeout.
38:09Good punt.
38:11Drives Marcus Jones back.
38:15And he's going to be out of bounds.
38:18Just shy of the 30.
38:20So,
38:214-0-3 left.
38:23And D'Amico Ryan's punts.
38:27Great Maybach to work.
38:28Time now for our game recap brought to you by New Balance.
38:32This,
38:32the fifth six,
38:33ball up for grabs.
38:35And Marcus Jones
38:37took it 26 yards for the score.
38:41Strong catch
38:43by Stephon Diggs for a touchdown,
38:46and here's this one-handed grab by Keyshawn Booty.
38:49Just a thing of beauty.
38:52And this is a 12-point game.
38:54Patriots ball.
38:55Houston one timeout.
38:58New England very close to stamping their ticket
39:01for a Sunday game in Denver next week.
39:04Pretty hard to believe when you look at
39:06Mike Rabel taking over as the head coach
39:09and what they were able to build
39:11throughout this season.
39:13Stephenson got the edge
39:14and wisely stays in bounds.
39:17Joe, you go back to this past offseason.
39:21They spent over $350 million in free agency and contracts
39:26to upgrade this roster more than anybody in football.
39:29And they had a nice draft like you mentioned earlier in this ballgame.
39:32And, man, they just continue to gain momentum.
39:36They got on their win streak,
39:37and they're playing as confident as any team in the league.
39:39An interesting decision by D'Amico Ryans to punt the ball with four minutes left
39:48and one timeout down by 12.
39:50But he did.
39:50It's the Patriots ball.
39:51They've got second down and short, maybe a yard,
39:55and timeout is taken by Houston.
39:57You talked about it.
39:58I mean, for New England, they had that great run with Belichick and Brady,
40:02and now they've got Vrabel and Drake May,
40:04and it looks like it's happening again here in Foxborough.
40:07It's pretty wild.
40:08We had a chance to visit with Mr. Kraft last night,
40:10and I know those lean years were hard on him after Brady left.
40:15Good, strong carry and a first down by Stephenson.
40:19But you think of the organizations that have gone decades without winning
40:23and decades without a franchise quarterback,
40:26the greatest of all time leaves your organization,
40:29goes and wins the Super Bowl with Tampa Bay,
40:30and then what would be for most a short time later,
40:36you bring in Drake May, and he's got a bright future
40:39and may very well be the league MVP when it's all said and done this year.
40:43Mr. Kraft was a season ticket holder here for 23 years,
40:47took over as owner in January of 94.
40:50They've won 20 division titles, six Super Bowls.
40:55Tom Brady got those, and now Drake May is, what,
40:59three minutes and nine seconds away from an AFC championship game in his second season.
41:04And by the way, younger at 23 years old than Tom Brady was
41:09when he became a starter for the New England Patriots at 24,
41:14and then that was what happened after Tom Brady became a starter
41:17here with the New England Patriots.
41:20It was definitely a dynasty, and it's just an incredible run.
41:25And as I stand next to you and have for 24 years now,
41:28I think about you and appreciating the job that Tom Brady did
41:33and Bill Belichick did and the sustained excellence that they've had here
41:37with this Patriots organization.
41:39Yeah, I think people, I think even the fans know how hard it is,
41:42but unless you've been in the arena and you've done it,
41:45you really don't fully appreciate what they accomplished.
41:50It's pretty remarkable.
41:52They were talking about these fans.
41:55You know, they got to a point where it was an expectation,
41:57and finally last week, and that win in the wild card game against the Chargers,
42:02this crowd showed up,
42:03and they were at a different energy level,
42:07much like they have been tonight.
42:09First down carry here,
42:11and Houston out of timeout,
42:13so we'll go under three minutes left.
42:15Going back to Mr. Kraft,
42:17you think about it,
42:18when he took over as the owner,
42:20Drew Bledsoe was his quarterback,
42:22then Tom Brady takes over,
42:24and now Drake May.
42:26And those three guys, I can tell you,
42:28are all cut from the same cloth.
42:29And when you have quarterbacks with their character
42:32and as highly regarded as they are
42:34and respected as they are within a locker room,
42:37you're living a pretty charmed life as an owner.
42:40Not a lot of owners can stake claim
42:42to having those type of guys
42:43as their signal callers throughout their ownership.
42:48Here is a handoff to Stevenson.
42:50He has stood up.
42:51It'll be third down.
42:55And we're coming up on the two-minute warning here in Foxborough
42:59as the Patriots are appointed
43:01for their first AFC championship game since 2018.
43:06when they won the Super Bowl over the Rams
43:10in a date with the Denver Broncos.
43:17You're watching ESPN's Divisional Playoff.
43:20It's presented by Intuit TurboTax.
43:23Frustrating day for the Houston Texans.
43:26Drake May and his Patriots
43:28will be moving on after tonight.
43:31Up 12.
43:32Two to go.
43:39Robert Kraft is saying his goodbyes
43:42in the sweet two minutes left.
43:44Patriots ball.
43:45Houston without timeouts.
43:50And a shout-out to Patriots superfan Jon Bon Jovi.
43:54Singing and living on a prayer here at Foxborough.
43:58Here's Hooper, and it's incomplete.
44:00On the throw by Maine with a minute 54 remaining.
44:03It's fourth down.
44:06So they throw it, which stops the clock.
44:11Yeah, I think he's just looking at it like,
44:13we're going to, they're going to expect us to run the football.
44:16We're going to throw it, see if we can't pick up the first down,
44:18and then go into their victory formation.
44:20In fact, in talking with Mike Vrabel,
44:22he said that's the first thing they worked on
44:24when he took over was victory formation
44:27to send a message to his team
44:30that this was going to be a formation
44:32that we are going to be using a lot this year.
44:35And that was on the heels of coming off
44:36a 4-13 season last year.
44:39Yeah, their second consecutive 4-13 season.
44:43Here's Noel on the return.
44:45Glad you reminded me of that
44:46and alerted viewers to that.
44:49Vrabel put that in.
44:51And it was Josh McDaniels who reminded him this week
44:55that that's what he did, saying,
44:56okay, we're going to put this in
44:57and we're going to be in the victory formation
45:01coming off the last year with Belichick,
45:03the one and only year with Gerard Mayo.
45:05And they flipped it here in 2025.
45:08First year for Mike Vrabel,
45:09a former All-Pro linebacker with New England in 07.
45:13And a guy who won three rings as a Patriot player.
45:17Here's Stroud.
45:18That's Marks.
45:20And a first down.
45:22Let's turn our attention to the Texans.
45:24They came into this game having 1-10 straight.
45:28And in their franchise history, 0-6 in the divisional playoff round.
45:33They've never been to an AFC championship game.
45:36The franchise had started in 2002.
45:38That run will continue, barring the ridiculous D'Amico Ryans.
45:46It's been so good.
45:47He's won two divisions, two divisional titles.
45:50He's a wild card this year.
45:51And he's taken his team this round all three years as a head coach.
45:56But like the previous two, it's going to end right here.
45:59Yeah, the one thing they did do this year that they had not done was they won on the road.
46:04They won a playoff game on the road last week.
46:06And that had never been done in the franchise's history.
46:12But I will say this, Joe.
46:13D'Amico Ryans and Nick Casario, they've got some tough decisions they've got to make about this team on the offensive side of the ball.
46:21You know, they replaced Bobby Slowick last year after his two years as the offensive coordinator.
46:30C.J. Stroud has been chasing his rookie success for the last two years.
46:35He's not been the same player.
46:37We've not seen the development from him.
46:39There's a reason for that, and it has to be addressed.
46:42Here's Bryant.
46:43Passes too high and off his hands.
46:45It's fourth down.
46:47Yeah, you bring up a great point.
46:49I mean, his rookie year was as good a rookie year as you can have in the NFL in 2023.
46:55But the last two years have been okay, not great.
46:59And here tonight, if his hands hurt, that's one thing.
47:02But he missed some open throws here tonight.
47:04Turned the ball over a lot again, which is what he did in Pittsburgh.
47:07This was not a good performance.
47:09Well, seven turnovers in the two playoff games.
47:11So your most important games of the year, you just can't overcome that kind of quarterback play.
47:16They shut this one down on fourth and four.
47:22And a timeout is taken by New England.
47:25Drake May on the other side.
47:27Had a year that, well, maybe we should have seen it coming.
47:32Maybe not to this point.
47:33He was number one in passer rating.
47:35He set a Patriots record in completion percentage for the year.
47:38Yards per attempt.
47:41And when you're doing that in a Patriots franchise history, and you've got Brady on the list, you're doing something.
47:48These are the top two MVP candidates.
47:50One is playing here in Foxborough.
47:54The other one is playing with a sprained index finger on his throwing hand in frozen Chicago tonight.
48:02Well, that's going to be an interesting vote for the league MVP.
48:07I don't think you can go wrong with either guy.
48:10I think they're both very deserving.
48:12And kudos to Matthew Stafford for the year that he had.
48:16Stroud is going to float it downfield.
48:18Hutchinson.
48:19It is incomplete.
48:21And the Patriots will take over.
48:35Spillane was back there in coverage.
48:39And let's take a look at the end of it.
48:41It was close.
48:42Ruled incomplete.
48:44Hutchinson went up to get it.
48:46Spillane had his hand in there.
48:48And the ball comes out.
48:49Just kind of mistimed his jump.
48:52He was beyond Spillane.
48:54Had a chance for a big play.
48:56But mistimed his jump.
48:58Incomplete.
48:58Patriots win.
49:00And congratulations, Mike Vrabel.
49:02And the journey's not over yet.
49:06Here's that victory formation.
49:09We'll have one more snap, and that's it.
49:12From Robert Kraft to Elliott Wolfe, the executive who is in charge of player personnel.
49:20His dad, Ron, a Hall of Famer.
49:23Vrabel, who returns to the organization, has delivered an AFC championship game to the Patriot fans.
49:33And more frustration and heartache for D'Amico Ryans and the Texans.
49:37That's it.
49:38Game over.
49:40Patriots win it.
49:4128-16.
49:43Playoff picture is set in the AFC.
50:05The top two seeds will meet in Denver.
50:10The New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos.
50:12Broncos will be without Bo Nix.
50:16Garrett Stidham will make that start for Denver.
50:20Former fourth-round pick by New England.
50:22And Drake May, it wasn't, it wasn't a pretty game, Troy, for this New England team at times.
50:32But May made the throws when he needed to.
50:35He ended up with three touchdown passes to three different receivers.
50:39And when they needed Drake May to make a throw, he did.
50:42And they're moving on.
50:43Yeah, the guys that needed to make the plays when they needed to make them, they came through.
50:47And that's really kind of been the story for their entire year.
50:52They now immediately look forward to the matchup next week in Denver.
50:58And, Joe, I believe Jared Stidham's going to come out and have a heck of a game.
51:03I think Sean Payton, we all know him and what he's capable of doing within a game plan.
51:08I expect he's going to put something together.
51:11And Jared Stidham's going to come out and give the New England Patriots all they want.
51:16And it's going to be one heck of an AFC championship game.
51:19With both organizations well ahead of their rebuild from when these coaches took over.
51:26I'm with you.
51:27I think Sean Payton likes a challenge, doesn't he?
51:30I mean, he wants Bo Nix out there.
51:32That's obvious.
51:32But he's got Jared Stidham.
51:34He's been there.
51:35He's been in that system.
51:36He will have Jared Stidham ready to play to the best of his abilities in that game on Sunday against New England.
51:49Former Patriot Jake Andrews there with a handshake.
51:56And we'll go down to Lisa Salters.
51:58Thank you, Joe.
51:59Drake, welcome to New England Patriots playoff football.
52:02Just how would you describe this one?
52:03Yeah, just proud of the guys.
52:04You know, bound the elements.
52:06This is New England.
52:06This is what we try to embrace.
52:08We want to embrace it all season long.
52:09Props to our defense.
52:10You know, played a hell of a game.
52:11We've got to protect the football better.
52:12But we made enough plays to win it.
52:13Yeah, four fumbles, two lost by you.
52:16I know you weren't happy about that.
52:17But how were you able to put it behind you and just respond?
52:20Yeah, it's easier when you're still winning.
52:23So that's why I kept reminding the guys we're still, you know, ahead on the scoreboard.
52:25And that's what matters.
52:26You know, we made enough plays to come up with a win.
52:28And like I said, our defense, you know, kept on playing and helped us out a lot.
52:31What impressed you about your defense?
52:33You talked about executing when it counted, but also just relying on them.
52:38Just what impressed you tonight about what they were able to do?
52:41They bring it every week.
52:42You know, they're great up front.
52:44They're great in the back end.
52:44They got great linebacker play.
52:46It's fun to watch.
52:46And, you know, we can help them out some more.
52:48But just proud of the guys.
52:49Enjoy this one.
52:49And we're back on the road.
52:51Jake, you're 23 years old.
52:52Just two years in the league.
52:53You're heading to the AFC Championship game.
52:56I know you probably haven't had a whole lot of time to reflect upon that.
52:59But just what does that mean to you?
53:00Yeah, it means we're winning.
53:02That's what matters.
53:03Haven't had a lot of time to reflect on it.
53:04Guys, we're on the go.
53:05We're on the go.
53:06We keep going.
53:06And just proud of these guys.
53:08It was fun in here.
53:09The atmosphere was great.
53:10So, you'll hate me not playing back here.
53:11But, look, we're on the road.
53:12And we got a big one.
53:13Good luck the rest of the way.
53:14Thank you, guys.
53:16Lisa, thank you.
53:17He is the pride of his dad, Mark, who was a college quarterback in North Carolina in the 80s.
53:22His mom, Aimee.
53:24His brothers, Luke, Cole, and Bo.
53:27The entire family is here.
53:28They'll celebrate with him.
53:29The only one who's not here is his brother, Luke, who left after the wild card game.
53:34We go back to Japan, where he plays pro basketball.
53:37It was a little after 5 a.m. on Monday, a kickoff in Japan.
53:44And that May family has to be very proud of that young man, 23 years old.
53:51And he's got the New England Patriots headed for a championship game in Denver.
53:55That would be pretty special to think about that combination right there.
54:06Mike Vrabel, year number one as the Patriots head coach, waiting for his quarterback to come back in.
54:11And that shot in the tunnel has – we've seen that a lot with Mike Vrabel waiting to welcome his players back to the locker room.
54:19They've got something special going on here in Foxborough.
54:21Yeah, they really do, and as someone who's ran up that tunnel after a divisional win,
54:28knowing you're going to the conference championship game, what an amazing feeling that is.
54:34Brings back a lot of fond memories for myself.
