Uganda's incumbent president, Yoweri Museveni, is leading the polls nationwide, relegating his challenger, Bobi Wine, to a far behind second place. DW's Sella Oneko gauges the mood in the capital, Kampala.

00:00After yesterday's election, vote counting is underway here in Uganda.
00:04Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni is currently in the lead.
00:07His main challenger, Robert Chagulani, also known as Bobby Wine, is far behind him.
00:12We've been hearing reports of security forces using bullets and tear gas in some areas of
00:16Kampala.
00:17The police confirmed this.
00:19They also confirmed that some people died in an area 50 kilometers away from the capital,
00:24in Bhutanbala.
00:25They couldn't, however, confirm the number of people dead.
00:28Human rights advocates are reporting the targeting of opposition members in even more
00:32areas.
00:33We spoke to some residents of Kampala about their general feeling about the elections.
00:38What people are doubting, there is no internet, there is no word, so there is no connection
00:43anywhere.
00:44But what we hear right now, in every direction of Uganda, the same seven is leading, but according
00:52to the people, they said there is no fair results.
00:55Holding to what is going on, everyone should be calm and wait to the electoral commission,
01:00yeah, to submit the winner.
01:03Final election results are expected to come out on Saturday, and we'll keep monitoring the
01:07situation.
