00:00Also, Coach, I love getting to talk to you some of these big games
00:02and the preparation as well.
00:04They've already played multiple playoff games,
00:05which back in the day you waited a month and a half,
00:07then you played your bowl game.
00:08These guys have been through it,
00:09so the layoff isn't that big of what it used to be.
00:12Talk to me about the preparation for these guys
00:14because also the increase in the media that you have to do
00:17and the spotlight and the big game and the pageantry,
00:20how are you handling these situations as a coach?
00:22Well, I think both coaches will know how to protect their players
00:26from too much media.
00:27Keep them involved.
00:29Don't let them have to go to too many press conferences,
00:31do many interviews.
00:32Coach Signetti and both head coaches can handle those press conferences themselves,
00:38but you don't want all the stuff that's in the paper.
00:41That's mostly for the fans and all the people surrounding it.
00:45You want to pull your team away from the distraction that they might have,
00:49but it is about 10 days.
00:51There's a lot of preparation in how they prepare for this game,
00:55and I'm going to say this.
00:56Because Indiana is a team, just play your best, and you're going to win this game.
01:01You're the best team.
01:02You've got the best quarterback.
01:04Do what you do, and you will win this game, and you might win it big.
01:09Miami's got to go out and do something different.
01:10And I think what's got to happen, Miami has got to study their tendencies
01:15and break some tendons.
01:17We see what happens against Indiana when you do what you normally do.
01:21They intercept the first play, go for a touchdown.
01:23They will have studied you and studied you.
01:26Very important.
01:26Miami being the underdog, take the 11 days, know what your tendencies are,
01:31and break a tendency, break a key tendency here or there
01:36to maybe get you a big play.
01:39Football gods are interesting here, Coach,
01:41because I don't think a lot of people understand or realize
01:45that Corey Heatherman, the current D.C. for Miami,
01:47who has changed this culture here on the defensive side,
01:53he was Cignetti's D.C. at JMU, and Cignetti loved him.
01:59They still have the same O.C. that was at JMU,
02:03was with Indiana and Cignetti.
02:05Does that give Heatherman and the defense any sort of insight
02:09or a leg up here heading into this game?
02:11I think that swings both ways.
02:14I think they know him, he knows them,
02:16and I think that's going to play against each other.
02:19And I think that's where tendencies come in.
02:21If anybody, you know, there's a book on everybody.
02:23There's a book on the defensive play caller.
02:26There's a book on the offensive play caller.
02:29And the key is to know what they tend to do
02:32and to make sure you can offset that by doing something different.
02:36You know, I'm reminded, I'm not, if you ever saw the movie Patent,
02:39I think the best scouting report was when he was fighting against Rommel
02:43in North Africa, and he killed, he won the battle, killed all the tanks.
02:47And his quote was, Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book.
02:52You know, the key is to, if you're in Miami, you better read the book,
02:57which means study their tendencies, make sure that you know your own tendencies
03:01because when you're the underdog, you've got to break tendencies a little bit.
03:05And those coordinators that know each other so well,
03:08that's going to be a big factor.
