00:00On January 9, 2026, the United Kingdom Crown Dependency of Jesse repatriated $9.5 million
00:06dollars back to the federal government of Nigeria in a Memorandum of Understanding signed between
00:12Jesse's Attorney General, Mark Tempukesi, and Nigeria's Attorney General and Minister of Justice,
00:19Latif Fabwimi Esehen. It was clearly stated in the memorandum that the funds must be used for
00:26projects like the Abuja Kano Highway. And of course, reactions have been missed on social
00:31media. Nigerians are skeptical. The funds in question is linked directly to the Abasha
00:36error notes. We know many of those amounts are in different accounts in Europe, scattered
00:42abroad. But as it stands, $9.5 million has been repatriated from Jesse. Jesse is a self-goblin
00:48British Crown Dependency in the English Channel and of course with its own laws. So this is
00:54not the first time that this jurisdiction is repatriating amounts to Nigeria. In previous
01:00years, they repatriated $300 million dollars that was used for some of the projects like
01:04the Lagos Ibadan Expressway and the Second Niger Bridge. But this time, they've repatriated
01:10$9.5 million dollars back to the federal government. Do you think the government of Nigeria will use
01:16this for what it's meant for? Well, we'll keep our fingers crossed from this end to watch
01:21closely how the funds is being spent. Olukarade Olumoiwa for The Guardian. I'll see you next time.
