00:00Hello, I'm Fabian Durkien, driver of Nasser Alpia working for Dacia.
00:14In Dacia we have something special that other teams don't have or don't have yet.
00:19That's what we call the seat attenuator.
00:21The goal of that device is to save our back in case of a big vertical crash or impact.
00:30The object of the seat attenuator is to reduce the effects of the impacts when the car lands.
00:47And so what happens is the seat which is fixed to this arm at the top and fixed to these arms at the bottom,
00:55this seat can move down up to 100mm when there's a big impact on landing.
01:02So what we have here is the two arms so the seat can move up and down.
01:11So as it moves down there's a pressure in this system that builds up and that limits how far the seat can go.
01:19And then once the impact's over then the attenuator brings the seat back up to the right place.
01:26It's not something meant to be actually fluctuating and moving a lot.
01:36Like you have for example on the seat of a truck driver where you go bumping up and down over the bunch.
01:44It's not something like that.
01:45Since the start of the Dakar in all four cars it was not being used yet.
01:53The only time I had it was once in Morocco and I remember that in fact it was a very big one.
02:02This device will be implemented for all new cars in the regulation starting in January 27.
02:09So we are a little bit more safe when we go out driving.
