00:00:00What a freak!
00:00:01Oh my God!
00:00:02Oh, look at that!
00:00:03Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:05Rooney, a hole!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Good evening.
00:00:51The festive fixtures continue apace.
00:00:53Six games on the way this evening.
00:00:55The last match of the day of 2025.
00:00:58Plenty of goals and incident for Danny Murphy and for Rob Green to discuss.
00:01:02And we will see the much-anticipated clash between Arsenal and Aston Villa.
00:01:06First versus third very shortly.
00:01:09But we're going to begin with a cracker at the London Stadium.
00:01:12West Ham are yet to win a home game.
00:01:14They're up against Brighton in the Premier League in eight previous attempts.
00:01:18Nuno Espirito Santos' side went into this one.
00:01:21Five points from safety.
00:01:22Commentary comes from Vicky Sparks.
00:01:25It's only 23 days since these two last met.
00:01:28When a last gasp Brighton equaliser denied West Ham a precious three points.
00:01:33How desperately the hosts need a victory here tonight.
00:01:37Winless in their last seven.
00:01:39Nuno Espirito Santos brings in Callum Wilson up top in a bid to stop the rot.
00:01:44With Crescente Somerville dropping to the bench.
00:01:47Brighton are without a win in five themselves as inconsistency continues to play their season.
00:01:53They make four changes.
00:01:54Danny Welbeck is fit enough to start with Mintec, Milner and Feltman also coming in.
00:01:59Alco, Ruter, Hinchelwood, Gruder and Coppola.
00:02:01The tone is back on the bench after illness.
00:02:04Doubling up there on Callum Wilson.
00:02:15It looks like it is his hold up play.
00:02:17Bowen should be in behind.
00:02:18Is he behind?
00:02:19Is he behind?
00:02:20Gidler down the lead.
00:02:22And early joy erupts around the London Stadium.
00:02:34It all starts with that long ball forward from Areola.
00:02:38Lamp Hecker winning the initial header but then Brighton don't cover themselves in glory.
00:02:43Bowen too strong.
00:02:44Bowen too fast.
00:02:45Bowen too accurate.
00:02:47West Ham on.
00:02:50Brighton nil.
00:02:53And he's pulled forward.
00:02:54Filled away by to Deboe.
00:02:55Only as far as Welbeck.
00:02:57All very nicely done.
00:02:58It's Mintec.
00:02:59It's Welbeck.
00:03:01It's a penalty.
00:03:03Well, it was a lovely move by Brighton.
00:03:08Well, they did eventually get the shot away.
00:03:13But this is what the spot kick was for.
00:03:16Oh, clear contact from Kilman.
00:03:19Brighton handed her way back into this.
00:03:24It's Welbeck against Areola.
00:03:31Daniel Welbeck emphatically equalizers.
00:03:38Well, he's still questioning the decision.
00:03:41Maximilian Kilman perhaps asking whether Mintec was already going down.
00:03:46With a thumping penalty from Danny Welbeck.
00:03:50Draws Brighton level.
00:03:52Womp Womp.
00:03:53Here's Mintec.
00:03:58Taking on Walker-Peters.
00:04:02And it will be a Brighton corner.
00:04:15Get a little bit of his delivery.
00:04:16Players tumbling everywhere.
00:04:18And it's another penalty.
00:04:21West Ham shell-shocked by two spot kick decisions in quick succession.
00:04:27And how this game has turned on its head.
00:04:31Well, it's Paketa on Dunk.
00:04:34And he does wrestle him down.
00:04:38And again, it's Welbeck against Areola.
00:04:44And Welbeck hits the bar.
00:04:51And can't convert the rebound.
00:04:53And now it's all kicking off.
00:04:59And tempers all of a sudden are flaring.
00:05:09Well, he went for the Penenka this time, Danny Welbeck.
00:05:14Relief for West Ham.
00:05:17And that is why it all boiled over there a little bit.
00:05:24So a yellow card for Danny Welbeck.
00:05:28A yellow card for Matthias Fernandes.
00:05:30Here's Fernandes.
00:05:35Here's Fernandes.
00:05:36Now Bowen.
00:05:37Fernandes taking off his toes by De Kuyper.
00:05:39But will fall to Bowen.
00:05:41Calioglu's done really well to read that.
00:05:44Not as though Bowen was wriggling through.
00:05:46Sculls gets it back.
00:05:49It's Callum Wilson.
00:05:50Oh, surely a handball there.
00:05:52Referee Michael Salisbury says no.
00:05:55And West Ham are absolutely aghast.
00:05:59And that is a poor challenge indeed.
00:06:06And it's all in danger of spilling over again.
00:06:09And Callum Wilson continues to say,
00:06:12that should have been a penalty our end.
00:06:15Which VAR are checking.
00:06:18Well, it's against Lewis Dunk.
00:06:22And there is going to be a video review.
00:06:25And I don't think that's a surprise.
00:06:27You can see why West Ham are appealing for it.
00:06:30Yes, it's close range.
00:06:32But the arm is very much out.
00:06:35He's in a natural action.
00:06:40After review.
00:06:42Brighton number five commits a humble offence inside the penalty area.
00:06:47The final decision is penalty and yellow card.
00:06:56So it is our third spot kick off the game.
00:06:59Penalty, yellow card.
00:07:02And Dunk's protesting.
00:07:05As if we didn't have enough going on here.
00:07:07West Ham are making a change.
00:07:11Torrivo is off.
00:07:14And Konstantinos Mavropanos enters the field.
00:07:20So it will be Lucas Paqueta.
00:07:26Who has scored all seven of his penalties in his West Ham career.
00:07:31It's Paqueta against Svobruggan.
00:07:33And Paqueta scores!
00:07:35That's how you do it.
00:07:36And West Ham are back in front.
00:07:39Now the end of a first half full of drama.
00:07:54Here he is again.
00:07:55Karou Matoma.
00:07:56Here he is again.
00:07:57Karou Matoma.
00:07:58What a deflection.
00:07:59And it will be at Brighton corner.
00:08:00December is not a happy month for Fabian Herzler.
00:08:01In fact, he is yet to win a game in December with Brighton.
00:08:03A difficult one to deal with.
00:08:06And it's in!
00:08:07And Brighton a four back to Leclerc.
00:08:08And it's in!
00:08:09And Brighton a four back to Leclerc!

00:08:28Go!
00:08:29Go!
00:08:30Go!
00:08:31Go!
00:08:32Go!
00:08:33level once more in this topsy-turvy game well it's a wicked delivery areola gets something on it
00:08:44but only as far as joel veltman his first brighton goal since may 2024
00:08:52and looking to maintain their momentum with mitoma he's done well oh beautiful areola just does enough
00:09:06it's a really smart save but that would have been a beautiful brighton girl
00:09:13ruta getting involved he's done really well
00:09:17cleared away by 18 year old ezra mayors they are finishing this game strongly
00:09:26scored late on in the draw with west ham earlier this month can they find a late winner
00:09:35once again and headed off the line
00:09:40variola stranded that time west ham under real pressure trying to clear
00:09:46and eventually will do so what a vital clearance by malpropanos to keep it at 2-2
00:09:54it's only the second time in premier league history that three penalties have been awarded in the
00:09:58first half of the game what was it like watching on from the touchline it was confusing i was uh
00:10:03just thinking i think um honestly the referees must uh again speak with with the players try to really
00:10:12explain to them which is contact which is excessive which can be
00:10:16fault because we see too many things so many contacts in the in the box now in set pieces that
00:10:21is confusing not a result we can't be happy with but in the end we tried it we gave everything and
00:10:29in some moments we missed a little bit quality in some moments we
00:10:33we had a lack of of luck and therefore it's only a 2-2 so disappointing from a brighton point of view
00:10:41but for west ham rob this is something you've highlighted before is their inability to hold
00:10:46on to a lead yeah it's becoming a real issue and it has become a massive issue now for nuno you're
00:10:51looking at the amount of games that they've got in front and not held on to that one nil lead you're
00:10:56looking at the only game that they have done was against nuno back in august and i highlighted it
00:11:01here against bournemouth and it was the same again today that in the second half they came out a goal
00:11:08up and just went back into the shells and just decided to defend defend defend and they're not
00:11:13good enough to do that they can't do that right now you look at the errors from areola from crosses
00:11:18you look at kilman giving away a penalty his hand in the second goal as well piquetta's dealing with
00:11:24dunk for a penalty there's too many errors within the side just as an overall picture
00:11:28to say one goal is enough so it's a really difficult quandary for nuno to come into and they're now
00:11:34looking at their next few fixtures as kind of must-win games this is where they need to to start putting
00:11:40a run of form together that can take them out of the of the bottom three are there winnable fixtures
00:11:45in there do you think well they had winnable fixtures they had tonight they have fulham at the
00:11:49weekend which they lost one point from two home games and now you're going to wolvesham
00:11:53wolves will be looking at that after tonight's result and saying we can win a game we can take
00:11:58a step forwards here they're looking to improve so all of a sudden the game against wolves a game
00:12:03against forest you're thinking they're four points behind off the off in the relegation zone so from
00:12:09there just to be in touch just to attract players to the club in january is going to be critical so i
00:12:15think this week is going to be huge we heard fabian herzler's frustration um possibly fueled by the fact that
00:12:22won all danny welbeck had a go at a panenka i'm a big fan of danny welbeck but i'm not a big fan of
00:12:28the panenka you surprise me um i think maybe messi ronaldo zadan type players but he's got a wonderful
00:12:35opportunity to put west ham in a real bad position here i think he's overthinking it because he's
00:12:39already taken one that you know that's going to be in his head because he doesn't want to do the
00:12:43same thing and that's not what you do you you either go one way or the other as firm as hard as you can
00:12:48if they'd have gone in the lead at that point i'm not sure west ham would have been able to come
00:12:52back but um i suppose look you can tell that west ham players aren't happy with it which is bizarre
00:12:57because he's missed so you you might as well congratulate him for trying to be too cheeky
00:13:01but i suppose if one player this season's earned the right maybe danny is and fabian herzler still
00:13:05not won a league game in december either that run continues now we will bring you that match between
00:13:10first and third very shortly we're just waiting for the managers interviews but to stanford bridge next
00:13:15chelsea looking to bounce back from defeat by aston villa three days ago against bournemouth without
00:13:20a win in their last nine jonathan pierce is your commentator rumors have been flying about the
00:13:26future of chelsea manager enzo mareska following that villa defeat just 169 days after he took chelsea
00:13:33to the club world cup antoine samania's much touted move to manchester city won't help
00:13:39bournemouth boss andoni iraiola as he suffers his worst run in three years chelsea unbeaten in eight
00:13:45league games against bournemouth make five changes from the villa defeats income action pong for farna
00:13:51gusto estavar and dilap kokorea is missing with a hamstring injury this is almost certainly then a
00:13:57farewell game for antoine sameno who's had a hand in 44 percent of their goals this season four changes for
00:14:03them income hill for a first start in nearly two months brooks claybert and evan nielsen
00:14:11chelsea have lost just one of their last 22 home calendar year-ending games
00:14:20quickly on looking for evan nielsen he's got beyond the chelsea defense it's touched
00:14:24to get very wide and the block was there by for farna
00:14:33semenya with the long throw again it's not dealt with very well brooks has got it in has he
00:14:38has now bournemouth lead terrible chelsea defender they failed to cut out the long
00:14:44throw and brooks had two stabs at it bournemouth needed a bounce back from that horror defensive show
00:14:51at brentford at the weekend lead in six minutes
00:14:56look at the number of blue shirts in there and yet they don't deal with the first one
00:15:01brooks's effort is saved by sanchez he's hungry to get to the second
00:15:05almost got to the second to keep it out and then brooks made short one nil
00:15:11seda whips one cleanly away to esteval isolated with trufa this could be a key area of the game
00:15:26he's gone beyond him semenya came in chelsea fans wonder penalty
00:15:30run given and now bournemouth look to break away and evan nielsen carries on he was too strong for the
00:15:39defender can't beat the goalkeeper and now it's up to great portion in the var boo to have a check
00:15:49good run by the youngster semenya seemed to clip his heels how much contact was there there's a knock of
00:15:56semenya's right knee on the back of esteval's leg he's been told to go and review it and i'm pretty
00:16:05sure that sam barrett will give the penalty here there's contact there back of his calf and then
00:16:12esteval does clip his own legs there can only be one decision here i find a decision that the penalty
00:16:19kick and only area thinks that's very very soft
00:16:26oh palmer will take the penalty big moments
00:16:34towards palmer against his former club mate petrovic
00:16:37he would have wanted to end his former career semenya by giving away a penalty should it end tonight
00:16:53don't give a guess right might have got a fingertip onto it but not enough
00:16:58oh that's a poor ball infield by action pop and it's set up here for breakfast a good save really
00:17:11very good save robert sanchez strong left hand
00:17:17mistake there they said he doesn't win the challenge he's on a yellow card of course
00:17:22evan nielsen good ball into brooks and it's a good recovery by sanchez because he was diving away
00:17:29to his other side
00:17:39this is pesado enzo fernandez to granacho back to enzo fernandez worked the space very well
00:17:49and scores a lovely goal and chelsea are ahead
00:17:55smashing finish that
00:17:59oh they turned the game on its head
00:18:02bournemouth initially gave the ball away never really recovered from that mistake
00:18:07darnacho turned inside
00:18:09jimenez set up fernandez
00:18:12he took the touch to get away from his defenders into that space
00:18:17watch here the touch of fernandez lovely that the scott came across
00:18:21and it's a fine finish too and it's 2-1 chelsea
00:18:34the tournament defending by wesley profana but it's a former throw
00:18:43that's a menu will take it long
00:18:44it's blood through his own penalty area and in and bournemouth are out again
00:18:57it's private and bournemouth are back in the game climate makes it 2-2
00:19:00chelsea are hapless defending their penalty area at set pieces
00:19:10it was a chelsea head that nodded it back through his own penalty area
00:19:14and in came clover all alone to stab it past robert sanchez who had no chance
00:19:22just have a near around the back
00:19:31did that come off his arm
00:19:33bournemouth are adamant
00:19:37very high up on his arm
00:19:40that's not a handball i don't think that's a handball
00:19:43they are checking because they have to
00:19:46it's been checked and cleared the ball comes down off his shoulder area
00:19:49in comes the corner headed up by casedo
00:19:54possible break is on here
00:19:55estival palmer look at players running up on the left-hand side
00:19:58both sides netto is there with him palmer has a look releases netto
00:20:03the laps in the middle beautiful breakaway no finish
00:20:07couldn't quite climb above the ball and make definitive contact but it's a lovely
00:20:13chelsea break that it's a big chance to for young liam delap estival does so well
00:20:19as does palmer strong positive carry perfect release early ball in lovely move deserve better
00:20:37estival
00:20:41good well good save georgie petrovic
00:20:44a little pleasing at his old club
00:20:49chelsea are getting stronger
00:20:57sanessi
00:21:01cross all the way through
00:21:03adley pulls it better sooner oh that was his opportunity
00:21:06that was his moment over it went lovely set up here by adley took it early from an awkward height
00:21:19terrific first half second half more measured more cautious finishes 2-2
00:21:26the big question now for bournemouth of course how do they deal with the future without antoine simenio because here he is clearly waving goodbye
00:21:39i think the points we are getting both games against chelsea even the game against united games where
00:21:48you feel you've had a good performance and it's not a great reward one point no but it's true that
00:21:53uh before coming probably is a point that you will have taken i think we we put bournemouth in to
00:22:00defending one box for many many minutes uh but uh the final product and uh the last third to to
00:22:09score another more another goal more to to win the game or to kill the game uh that was missing today and
00:22:16it's something that we need to to find that we need to improve uh as soon as i can at the end you
00:22:22you'll have seen the reaction from the fans towards antoine simenio and indeed his teammates as he seemed
00:22:27to be waving farewell to the club how how devastating is that for you or just do you just move on
00:22:34no antoine is a massive player for us no and he will be still with us it's not the last last game
00:22:40he has played for us no definitely we'll come to antoine simenio's future in just a second it's yet
00:22:46another high scoring away game involving bournemouth but they haven't won one in 10 in a row now danny so
00:22:52while it might be vastly entertaining it's not necessarily effective for them no but it's great to watch
00:22:58for us i thought chelsea actually second half were pretty good estovar was a joy to watch but first
00:23:02half a couple of concerns for them one was how often bournemouth opened them up and how well they
00:23:06played um and secondly set plays it's becoming a problem for chelsea they conceded two today
00:23:13from long throw-ins um at home you've got to do better well in any game but especially at home when
00:23:18you're trying to dominate a team simenio you know we know where he's trying to get as far as he can
00:23:23there's lots of bodies in there for chelsea they don't get the first contact which is crucial and then
00:23:29they don't follow runners on the back post so we can see hill gets the first contact and then brooks
00:23:33runs off the back of garnaccio he's not watching the man he's watching the ball and then they give
00:23:37themselves a mountain to climb which they climb and do well and get back in the game at 2-1 and
00:23:41then what happens once it's happened once it can't happen again the target's the same there's nothing
00:23:47different misreads the ball caliber there but it's the back post that's the problem it's the second
00:23:52the second ball the runner and again unfortunately it's garnaccio and no surprise really he was taken
00:23:58off half time i think probably because of these two lapses in concentration you've got to be switched
00:24:02on you can't give teams goals like that and expect to win football matches yeah one of the biggest
00:24:07strengths of chelsea this season is robert sanchez's ability to come and claim these balls they have
00:24:11five players in between him and the ball at times there and completely negated the opportunity for him to
00:24:18come and they suffered from that um you could look at this as chelsea having been a goal down and
00:24:22managing to get a point from it or you could look at what's been more of a pattern for them this season
00:24:27which is you know dropping points from from winning positions yeah i think the game was a nice summary of
00:24:33how their season's gone at times and it's the chaos that they can't deal with brawms brought an energy
00:24:38and a chaos to the game much like aston villa did at the weekend in the second half and it's their lack of
00:24:43ability to respond and keep control of games has been the real issue for chelsea uh not antoine
00:24:49semenya's last game in a bournemouth shirt you think danny or certainly that's what and only arala
00:24:54said well maybe they've got a practice match tomorrow or something like that i i very rarely see scenes at
00:24:59the end where someone's saying goodbyes and even hugging his teammates he's a player in demand for
00:25:03obvious reasons he'll definitely benefit whichever squad he goes to bournemouth are cute and clever in
00:25:09the market i'm sure they've already got a replacement but it's hard for the manager to come out and say
00:25:13yes he's on his way even if they they do get that replacement even if it is the right player
00:25:17obviously that you'd expect they take a little while to to settle in are either of you concerned
00:25:23about bournemouth this season i thought the recent weeks the run that they've had they've had real
00:25:28difficulty with the energy they've been void of energy something very un-bournemouth like this look
00:25:33more like the bournemouth of old more like what we've been used to seeing in the premier league
00:25:37if they stick with what they had tonight they'll be okay yeah so now to top versus third at the
00:25:43emirates with just three points separating the two sides aston villa on a run of 11 straight wins in all
00:25:49competitions arsenal's last defeat came against villa earlier this month commentary comes from simon
00:25:56brotherton a mid-season test of title challenging credentials and it comes just 24 days after they
00:26:03last met the defeat of villa park is arsenal's only reverse in the last 24 matches while villa's 11
00:26:10game winning run has equaled their club record tally last achieved 111 years ago a knee injury means
00:26:17declan rice misses the game for arsenal but jorian timber returns and a fit against gabriel starts for the
00:26:23first time since early november piero in capier slides across to left back and kai havertz returns
00:26:29from injury on the bench matty cash and bubacar camera are suspended for villa who make five changes
00:26:36lamar bogard plays at right back with luca dina amadu anana ollie watkins and jayden sancho all coming in
00:26:43it's sancho's first league start since arriving on loan last summer
00:26:47they're unbeaten on the last two visits here to the emirates winning 2-0 a couple of seasons ago and
00:26:562-2 draw last term
00:27:00he's got away from sancho super played by in capier this is good from arsenal
00:27:05in capier's ball in jokeres with the header
00:27:07first sighting a goal for arsenal still as players protesting
00:27:14jokeres there with a clear heading opportunity
00:27:20that's the makings of a a good one tonight this
00:27:28the challenge by concert who's done superbly here watkins is up alongside him watkins wide
00:27:34first chance of the match for the visitors it was excellent play by esri concert who got in there
00:27:42whipped the ball of victor jokeres watkins in an excellent position and miscuing the shot
00:27:53moment of encouragement for villa with that ball and now an excellent pass from tielemans and here comes
00:27:59morgan rogers with support the passing to sancho the defending was solid from in capier but again a
00:28:06little warning there for arsenal well what a pass from juri tielemans here setting villa on the counter
00:28:17picking out morgan rogers
00:28:2315 minutes in villa certainly giving arsenal something to think about
00:28:29both teams with bright attacking moments so far in this first half
00:28:36jokeres waits in the middle trossard's looking for the angle for the shot
00:28:41comfortable enough for emi martinez
00:28:48arsenal again going down that left hand side they're really trying to
00:28:52test the right hand side of aston villa's defense in the absence of their regular right back cash
00:28:57in it comes from trossard jokeres almost in
00:29:03jokeres getting in in front of the defender esri concert but the header flashing past the post
00:29:14here's a nana that's a decent looking ball into jayden sancho right at the end of the first half it's
00:29:21watkins and it's an absolutely superb defensive challenge by saliva wouldn't have counted anyway
00:29:27flags up on the far side that was excellent play all round brilliant from villa and superb from saliva
00:29:36given as offside very tight but villa almost springing clear to take a late first half lead
00:29:43arsenal with a clean sheet again so far david reyes kept a clean sheet in exactly half
00:29:53of the premier league games this season so far that's better from jokeres
00:30:00support here from timber block made by lindelof
00:30:03it's going to be a corner for arsenal first corner of the match for them
00:30:11saka to take
00:30:15gabriel right in emi martinez's grill there as it's in
00:30:19martinez doesn't get hold of it the balls in the back of the net and arsenal have scored
00:30:23it was gabriel who caused the real problem he was right there on top of emi martinez even before the ball
00:30:31came in it was gabriel who caused all the issues for martinez it's messy but it matters not for arsenal
00:30:39because they all count it just rolled in rolled down gabriel's leg and then into the net what a start
00:30:47to the second half that's liven things up here and yet another test for una emery's team who so often
00:30:55find themselves behind particularly away from home
00:31:03bogart into tielemans
00:31:05the third jayden sancho won by martin odegaard he was quicker he was sharper he was keener and
00:31:11zubarbendi makes it too oh what a lovely goal from martin zubarbendi
00:31:17and it all came and odegaard got there ahead of jayden sancho
00:31:26and played it through zubarbendi finished it off stunning start to the second half
00:31:33arsenal in danger of running away with it here all of a sudden
00:31:37villa's defense breached again arsenal 2 aston de la nil
00:31:41and what a test this is going to be for una emery's team to try to get back in
00:31:48the match now well there were plenty of furrowed brows in the first half
00:31:53but they are absolutely loving it now
00:32:01pressure on rogers villa lose the ball marino into odegaard odegaard looks to get ball past
00:32:08martinez who gets a hand on it
00:32:12martinez with a vitally important fingertip save arsenal can sense a third goal might be coming
00:32:19saka
00:32:28lovely play no penalty says the referee arsenal still on the attack they are going to double check it so
00:32:38we await the verdict on that but arsenal continue on the front foot with martin odegaard that's a
00:32:44terrific ball in saka can't get his head on it timber truss out three nil game set match arsenal
00:32:54there'll be five points clear at the end of 2025 at the top of the premier league table
00:33:01it is being checked for offside
00:33:03it was given as disallowed on the field for offside didn't look like it was offside as the ball was
00:33:12played in there
00:33:13it's just one more pass they're looking at a pass out to hincapier they're saying saka's on
00:33:20side so they're checking in capier who i think is on side it's going to be a goal and the crowd will
00:33:27find out in a moment
00:33:28arsenal three aston villanil and what an end to the year it is going to be for the league leaders
00:33:40villas 11 game winning run surely at an end now what a run it has been
00:33:46in capier the way to urdegaard
00:33:55garcia has been beaten by zubomendi plenty of red and white shirts racing forward here trossard leads
00:34:01the way into gabriel jesus oh it's his first touch oh he's waited a long time for this
00:34:10he's missed most of the calendar year with a crucial injury he's only recently come back
00:34:20and he's only just come on the field tonight it's brilliant from the brazilian
00:34:28arsenal finishing 2025 in style they are the team to beat in the premier league title race
00:34:41here's marlin
00:34:46the ball into watkins
00:34:50and it's a brilliant save by david raya goodness me that was astonishing
00:34:58how on earth did villa not get a goal there again on the follow-up david raya
00:35:03it's like there's some sort of magnetic field around his goal
00:35:06good play by jimmo into marlin that's gabriel jesus back and doniel marlin still going here
00:35:13superb play from doniel marlin and watkins scores on his 30th birthday
00:35:19another goal for ollie watkins against arsenal
00:35:24watkins who has scored six league goals
00:35:27goals against the gunners over the years has himself another one here
00:35:34sweeping it home from close range
00:35:37it was excellent play from doniel marlin who somehow got it through david raya's legs
00:35:46oh what a second half that was tonight yeah it was amazing uh yeah we knew we played against a
00:35:51team that won 11 games in a row that in a great emotional state uh they are really fabulous team
00:35:58they keep you on the edge in a reaction uh and in the first half in the first 10 minutes we we
00:36:03missed time a few things and and they opened us up and they are really dangerous there after we had
00:36:07some more control we came up in the second half and i thought we were outstanding today we did very good
00:36:14first half differently than the last match in chelsea and of course we were more or less
00:36:20competing well and even getting our momentum and creating chances but the second half the first
00:36:26goal changed everything and we finished losing but now with the players my analysis of course is
00:36:37after the match how we did here 90 minutes but overall the the most important for us is try to
00:36:44to understand overall how we are well arsenal have had the results of late
00:36:49if not necessarily the performances what a time for them to put in particularly that that second
00:36:55half performance danny absolutely their performance was a big statement it was powerful full of quality
00:37:01showed their strength in depth let's not forget they didn't have declin rice one of the most important
00:37:06players um but i thought in the first half when villa were pretty good actually um and caused arsenal
00:37:12problems that partnership that's back together of gabriel and saliba gave arsenal the platform to then go
00:37:19on to have that wonderful second half performance now villa played through the press beautifully at times
00:37:25in the first half and look at the pace of gabriel and saliba there to then get rogers to play a poor
00:37:31ball ball and and capier sees out the danger again you can see villa waiting to win the ball back on the
00:37:40transition which they do really well and then they play through and once they do because arsenal go after
00:37:45teams at home which is right as well because they really dominate teams at home generally when they get
00:37:50into these positions the two are always close together they're always communicating the distances are good
00:37:55and here basically the angle is really difficult there for for watkins to do because saliba's so
00:38:00patient he's just got this calmness he doesn't panic there they are on the press that we're talking
00:38:05about they commit men forward and the reason they do it is because they believe and trust their defenders
00:38:10to play one-on-one and to cope and there's none better really than saliba you know when he's on top of
00:38:16his game right position again he's got the athleticism and pace calm no danger okay the ball could have been
00:38:21better but time and time again we saw them break on arsenal and the arsenal back forward don't panic
00:38:29i mean this here from saliba he doesn't know that this is going to be given a couple of inches offside
00:38:33look at this that is just phenomenal and that's what you get when you get those two together you
00:38:38get the athleticism the calmness and the fear factor i think it gives them a great platform to
00:38:43really go after teams and of course the game they lost at villa neither of them were playing of course
00:38:48and while gabriel and saliba provide that platform for arsenal on the pitch there's also the the way
00:38:54in which the goal was conceded that allowed them to take advantage of the fact that villa were then
00:38:59trying to get back into the game and it was an error from emi martinez yeah and it was gabriel it was
00:39:03one of the two of them getting in the way getting in he'd been making any use of himself as he always
00:39:08does as he does yeah and una emery says it says it himself it changed the game and that's what got the
00:39:13ball rolling and we knew it was coming we've seen it before at brentford this season we've seen it at
00:39:19lees and we saw it on saturday at chelsea where martinez just gets preoccupied with the players
00:39:24around him he's got two there he's fighting there and he can't come for the ball because he's just
00:39:28worried about what's around him and again tonight he's preoccupied he's worried and from there you
00:39:34know he's going to be there you know he's going to be there salibas around you can see him you can
00:39:39touch him and as a keeper if you're going up amongst bodies and your head you're going to
00:39:44bring it down or amongst heads you've got to punch it he doesn't do that two minutes later
00:39:49villa reacts and they've got their men in around the players protecting martinez now this has been
00:39:55going on for weeks this has been going on since the start of the season so i don't know why it takes
00:40:00mid-game against arsenal for it to happen again three days after it happening at the weekend for them
00:40:06to react it seems like it's a bit of a miss and it the manager said it cost them that said it was a
00:40:11stunning performance from arsenal in the in the second half in particular they then open up that
00:40:16six point gap over aston villa suddenly it starts to look a lot more comfortable and yes manchester city
00:40:22have got a game in hand that they'll play on on new year's day but it it feels like a big one that
00:40:27in terms of the the title race have they seen off one of the main contenders not just yet but they've
00:40:33said they've shown everybody they mean business and a couple of bad results or a couple of draws
00:40:37and one loss doesn't um define their season look they they're wonderfully physically physically um
00:40:44defensively brilliant there's been a little bit of criticism recently on lack of creativity and
00:40:49too many goals offset plays but they've got so many players now who are fighting for positions in the
00:40:55forward areas you're going to see an uplift i think and more intensity from the forward players
00:40:59jesus is coming on scoring we don't think we saw ezra today you know they've got so much talent
00:41:05i think they'll just spur each other on to do more and more and uh yeah it's it's a big day for them
00:41:10and a big statement i think each win like this each big win they have is a massive hurdle particularly at
00:41:15the emirates where they get really really nervous they're waiting for that trophy and that feeds onto
00:41:21the team and that you saw it read previous seasons we saw it last season the champions league they get
00:41:27nervous so big statement wins like this big moments you look in the next one possibly the league cup
00:41:33coming up against chelsea that's another big statement in there is going to be each one brings
00:41:39on that little bit more belief yeah it's huge night for arsenal huge night at the top of the table
00:41:44burnley have drawn their last two but scott parker's side were on a run of nine without a win ahead of the
00:41:50visit of newcastle guy mowbray was at turf moore burnley need a win but then newcastle do too they've
00:41:58only won one of their last five and that was against burnley three and a half weeks ago for the claret
00:42:03three changes from saturday against everton maxime estep returns from injury and florentino and loom
00:42:08shouter also coming to start for newcastle four changes nick pope plays for the first time since
00:42:14november joe linton harvey barnes and joan wisser also brought into the team
00:42:23this tradition is a very happy place for newcastle to visit they have won their last three here but
00:42:30life on the road has not been easy for toon fans this season
00:42:37there's anthony gordon
00:42:40and fabian share
00:42:43it's a really good return to gordon controlled it nicely too up against kyle walker and he beats him once
00:42:51crossing towards joe linton who's hooked it in
00:42:53it's taken newcastle only just over a minute brilliantly finished that by the brazilian
00:43:01his 200th appearance in the premier league and his first goal in the competition this season
00:43:09gordon's delivery maybe not what he was looking to do with it
00:43:14i think it may have taken a deflection and looped up to joe linton but what a connection that was
00:43:20it's caressed it into the corner burnley nil newcastle united one
00:43:29just sets the tone this puts a downer on the turf moore atmosphere from the very start apart
00:43:35from in the visiting section which is bouncing but couldn't hold on lucas spires has wrestled the ball
00:43:43free of him gordon came in though with a good tackle for newcastle bruno gimarazzi into a crowd
00:43:48gordon out of the pocket
00:43:52gordon again trying to combine with barnes here is barnes saved by dubravka trying to get back up
00:43:59it's an almighty mess for burnley and joan wisser has put it in for number two
00:44:07his first premier league goal in the black and white stripes
00:44:10burnley is surrounding the referee rob jones
00:44:16they feel there might have been a foul in the midst of all that melee it will of course be looked at
00:44:22the more worrying concern for burnley is the absolute mess that they got themselves into
00:44:29i just wonder there though if there was a barge in the back
00:44:35was josh laurent fouled by bruno gimaraj i think there's going to be a secondary newcastle cheer
00:44:42though the goal is going to be allowed to stand burnley nil newcastle two let's not forget that
00:44:50very recently they were two nil up against chelsea and drew two two
00:44:53edwards trying to get a sight of goal denied that by wisser that was blocked by ekdal
00:45:08put back in by lucas perez that's a goal brilliantly taken josh lauren has
00:45:13given burnley some hope and maybe started uh another newcastle wobble josh lauren's first turfmore goal
00:45:25it's a knight of firsts
00:45:28lucas perez with the first shot might be a question there about the positioning of
00:45:34broyer was he offside it was his help on to josh lauren who has done what he needed to do
00:45:41the check is complete lauren has scored and it is burnley one newcastle two
00:45:50gordon
00:45:54where's gordon going nowhere fast is the answer here's broyer
00:46:00broyer's shot deflected
00:46:02shauna
00:46:05shauna finds edwards and edwards
00:46:08has his shot cleared off the line fabian share getting back to crucial effect for newcastle
00:46:16burnley keep coming edwards has another go
00:46:18well wide
00:46:19well wide newcastle and anthony gordon in particular have fabian share to thank for still being in front
00:46:28so
00:46:34so
00:46:36he's
00:46:37broyer's pass is a good one marcus edwards for burnley
00:46:42straight against the leg of Nick Pope, big chance goes
00:46:48they only have started the second half the better team here
00:46:54Humphreys, Humphreys again, Breuer trying to battle through with Humphreys help
00:47:04Lukas Piretz, that's not a bad ball and it's off the woodwork with Pope
00:47:11stranded, Loron nearly got himself another, lovely chip this from Lukas Piretz
00:47:19Loron's header, Pope had given it up and it nearly dropped in, Nick Pope is
00:47:25increasingly a busy goalkeeper
00:47:32Edwards dummies Gordon and takes on Hall and gets the crossover to Shauna
00:47:40once again Burnley have had their chances, once again they have largely failed to convert
00:47:48Murphy, Bruno Gimeraj, corner
00:47:56right in front of the Newcastle fans
00:48:00Thomas Hall, Dubravka, that's two hands on it, Jo Linton happy to let it bounce and Dubravka's
00:48:11beaten to it, Humphreys off the line
00:48:13that one was dipping under Bashir Humphreys with some good defensive work
00:48:21I just wonder if Burnley have had their chances now
00:48:25they could and probably should have drawn themselves
00:48:29level, Hall gets past Ekdahl and gets it back from Wissar, here's Jacob Murphy
00:48:35Murphy, oh goodness, the three points were there on a plate for him to win
00:48:41Jacob Murphy really ought to have dispatched that pretty much in his sleep
00:48:49Miley to Murphy, Tonali
00:48:55Ekdahl has Voltemada breathing down his neck
00:48:59and Dubravka has given it straight to Bruno Gimeraj
00:49:03and Newcastle have won the game
00:49:06it ends as it begun
00:49:09with Burnley all over the shop at the back
00:49:12Bruno's sixth goal this season
00:49:16his first one that's come away from St James' Park
00:49:19and it's put the seal
00:49:21on what will be only Newcastle's second Premier League away win of the season
00:49:27it's Burnley one, Newcastle three
00:49:31the positives are that we showed a real spirit, a real commitment, a real fight
00:49:39and sometimes in these moments, like anything in life
00:49:41in adversity and certain hardship
00:49:44which that was the case tonight
00:49:46that that's something that can go disappearing very very quickly
00:49:49default position can be hiding and certainly not stand up to the challenge
00:49:53my team never did that
00:49:54and I don't think they ever will
00:49:56I think that's been proven over some time now
00:49:59in the second half we controlled the game well
00:50:01we managed to the time and play well and still create chance
00:50:06I think we could have more goals today
00:50:08but at the end I'm really really happy with the three points
00:50:11because that's the most important
00:50:14we know we were under pressure today
00:50:17I thought the lads responded really well
00:50:18it was a really fast start
00:50:19I thought we scored some really good goals
00:50:23and then us being us at this present time
00:50:25we made it difficult for ourselves
00:50:26you know there's a couple of moments there
00:50:28where Nick made massive saves for us
00:50:29but overall I thought we showed real resilience
00:50:31and character in that second period to get over the line
00:50:34Eddie Howe said Newcastle made it difficult for themselves
00:50:38in the end it looks like a relatively comfortable scoreline
00:50:40but it wouldn't be fair to say that Burnley put up no resistance to them
00:50:45no it wasn't routine
00:50:46and you think here in Newcastle away from home
00:50:49they've been poor this season
00:50:50Guy touched on it in commentary
00:50:51just a second away when they were rocking at times
00:50:54and Joe Linton can say what he likes after the game
00:50:57they were in trouble at moments
00:50:58and you look at the chances that they had that Burnley
00:51:01and you think about all the good play that they had
00:51:03it's just critical moments and then players
00:51:05you know the instincts of Cher a momentary lapse in concentration
00:51:09at the back for themselves
00:51:10but when they did attack they attacked with conviction
00:51:14they came up against Nick Pope who came back and was in good form
00:51:17and Eddie Howe who said it himself he said
00:51:19you know he came up with big moments
00:51:22that was key tonight and you're looking thinking well
00:51:25is he going to come back and play because
00:51:27A. Ramsdale had done okay
00:51:29was he still the number one?
00:51:30I think now we know Nick Pope's back
00:51:33and he's playing well really sharp at moments
00:51:35but around this Burnley created opportunities
00:51:38in and amongst congested area
00:51:39in and amongst when they could break
00:51:41see coming away from it Scott Parker's thinking
00:51:43it's pretty much everything we can do in a game
00:51:46and from here you look at these chances
00:51:49you've got to score them
00:51:50you've got to take these moments
00:51:52because things like this happen
00:51:54a moment's indecision
00:51:55the game's still in the balance
00:51:57it's horrible for Dubravka
00:51:59he's up against his former club
00:52:01Nick Pope was up against his former club
00:52:03one rule for one keeper
00:52:04one rule for the other
00:52:05it's a tough night again for Burnley
00:52:07having said everything that you have
00:52:09in sort of defense of Burnley
00:52:10if you like
00:52:11the fact is that they haven't won in the last 10 games
00:52:14there are more than grumblings around turf more
00:52:17about where the club is heading this season
00:52:21where do you think we stand in terms of the amount of pressure
00:52:23that's on Scott Parker at the moment
00:52:25where you're looking
00:52:26I don't think they can stay up
00:52:27I don't think they can survive
00:52:28that's first and foremost
00:52:29it's then you're saying
00:52:30where do you take the club
00:52:32much like Wolves
00:52:33they're in a better position than the Bulls
00:52:34but where do you take them from now
00:52:36what's the vision
00:52:36how much damage can they sustain
00:52:39for the rest of the season
00:52:40if runs continues
00:52:41it's got to stop at some point
00:52:43what about from Newcastle's point of view
00:52:45I mean Eddie Howe talked about
00:52:46the problems that they've caused themselves
00:52:48at times this season
00:52:49but in terms of their attacking prowess
00:52:51how much does the return
00:52:53the full return of Wyssa make to that
00:52:55I think it's really positive for them
00:52:57great stats
00:52:58look they're first in all of those
00:53:00scored when he came back into the team
00:53:02in the League Cup against Fulham
00:53:03scored today
00:53:04he's reliable in the build up
00:53:06he's quick
00:53:06he's got different attributes to Volta Marder
00:53:08of course he has
00:53:09but it gives Eddie Howe an option
00:53:11to change them up
00:53:12mix them
00:53:12they've got good options in wide areas actually
00:53:14so I think for Newcastle fans
00:53:16that's something exciting for him
00:53:17to look forward to
00:53:18his impact on the team
00:53:19in the next few months
00:53:20to the city ground now
00:53:22Nottingham Forest
00:53:23coming off back-to-back defeats
00:53:25against Everton
00:53:26without a win or a goal
00:53:27in their last three
00:53:28Chris Wise was at this one
00:53:30outside of the bottom club Wolves
00:53:34these two are the lowest scorers
00:53:37in the league
00:53:37and between them
00:53:38they have strikers
00:53:39that are either out injured
00:53:40out of luck
00:53:42or bang out of form
00:53:43Nottingham Forest will finish 2025
00:53:46above the relegation zone
00:53:47the steady signs of encouragement
00:53:49are there
00:53:49Sean Dyche
00:53:50freshens it up
00:53:51at full-back
00:53:52Alexander Zinchenko
00:53:54comes in for Nicolo Savona
00:53:55Everton's 3-0 win
00:53:57over Forest
00:53:58at the start of the month
00:53:59remains their biggest victory
00:54:00of the season
00:54:01but the absentee list
00:54:02is getting long
00:54:03the latest to join it
00:54:04Michael Keane
00:54:05and Carlos Alcaraz
00:54:06neither in the Everton squad
00:54:08tonight
00:54:08income Patterson
00:54:10and Ruel
00:54:10and Grealish
00:54:11is back on the bench
00:54:12so a very different challenge
00:54:16for Nottingham Forest
00:54:17tonight compared to the visit
00:54:18of swashbuckling
00:54:20Manchester City
00:54:20three days ago
00:54:22it is David Moyes
00:54:23is Everton
00:54:24Garner
00:54:25managed to find
00:54:28the out ball as well
00:54:29there might have been
00:54:30a little touch on roll
00:54:31but play's going to go on
00:54:31with Everton anyway
00:54:32because Barry's got it
00:54:34Dibling one of the
00:54:37supporting cast
00:54:38here he is
00:54:39Tyler Dibling
00:54:40Patterson
00:54:46for Iribunum
00:54:48who has the power
00:54:50to keep Dominguez
00:54:51away from here
00:54:52McNeil
00:54:53for Garner
00:54:54it's in
00:54:55James Garner
00:54:58against his former
00:54:59club for Everton
00:55:00well out of respect
00:55:03he doesn't celebrate
00:55:04but the Everton fans
00:55:05do
00:55:06James Garner
00:55:08taking it quickly
00:55:09and striking it
00:55:11low across
00:55:12Jean's goal
00:55:13who got the
00:55:14merest fingertip
00:55:15to it
00:55:16but nothing more
00:55:16there's only two
00:55:18players on the pitch
00:55:19for Everton tonight
00:55:20that have scored
00:55:21Premier League goals
00:55:22this season
00:55:22and he's one of them
00:55:24that's number two
00:55:25for James Garner
00:55:26and in terms of
00:55:27Everton tonight
00:55:28that's number one
00:55:29Nottingham Forest
00:55:300
00:55:30Everton 1
00:55:31Williams
00:55:35it's a great ball
00:55:37and it is a
00:55:38fluff finished
00:55:39at the back of the queue
00:55:40from Callum Hudson
00:55:41Odoi
00:55:42really good opportunity
00:55:44that for Nottingham Forest
00:55:4513th time
00:55:48that
00:55:48these two managers
00:55:49have pitted their
00:55:50extensive wits
00:55:51against one another
00:55:52the very first time
00:55:53actually nine years ago
00:55:54tomorrow
00:55:54when
00:55:55Dutch's Burnley
00:55:56beat
00:55:56Moises Sunderland
00:55:57by
00:55:57four goals
00:55:59to one
00:55:59maybe just
00:56:02the touch
00:56:03initially
00:56:03from Garner
00:56:04sent Anderson
00:56:05into Iribunum
00:56:06and Iribunum
00:56:07giving away
00:56:07the free kick
00:56:08it almost sent
00:56:10Anderson
00:56:10off course
00:56:11that
00:56:11initial challenge
00:56:13by Garner
00:56:13and into the path
00:56:14of
00:56:15Iribunum
00:56:16Iribunum
00:56:16so Forest
00:56:18free kick
00:56:19and their
00:56:19two fullbacks
00:56:20are over this
00:56:20Nico Williams
00:56:22and Alexander
00:56:22Zinchenko
00:56:23it's Zinchenko
00:56:24it was on target
00:56:25I think on most occasions
00:56:27Jordan Pickford
00:56:28probably would have
00:56:28caught that
00:56:29last Forest win
00:56:32against Everton
00:56:33here
00:56:33more than 30 years ago
00:56:34Steve Stone
00:56:35played
00:56:35and Ian Woan
00:56:37scored what
00:56:37would prove to be
00:56:38the winner in that game
00:56:39Nottingham Forest
00:56:40beating Everton
00:56:40by three goals
00:56:41to two
00:56:41coming up to the hour
00:56:44then at the city grounds
00:56:45Forest continue to probe
00:56:47Gibbs White
00:56:47O'Brien was too strong
00:56:50for him
00:56:50but then has given
00:56:51the ball away
00:56:52Igor Jesus
00:56:53has he got hold of it
00:56:55he has
00:56:55he nearly scores
00:56:56a special goal
00:56:57it was a pokes
00:56:59towards Pickford's goal
00:57:00from Igor Jesus
00:57:01and it ends up
00:57:04whistling past
00:57:05the right hand post
00:57:06of the Everton
00:57:07goalkeeper
00:57:07Garner
00:57:13corner is the call
00:57:17the second corner
00:57:23of Everton's night
00:57:24but right in front
00:57:26of their
00:57:27feverish supporters
00:57:29now a knee
00:57:33there to
00:57:34clear the corner
00:57:35away
00:57:36back in it goes
00:57:39that's a better ball
00:57:40that was nearly
00:57:402-0
00:57:41Tarkovsky
00:57:43heading it
00:57:44wide of the post
00:57:44really was close
00:57:48wasn't it
00:57:48that header
00:57:49from Tarkovsky
00:57:50now Everton
00:57:54are coming
00:57:54at Forest
00:57:55and Jack Grealish
00:57:56has got a lot
00:57:56of space here
00:57:57Grealish still
00:58:02Dwight McNeil
00:58:04back to Grealish
00:58:08again from Garner
00:58:09Barry and Dibling
00:58:12patiently waiting
00:58:13Garner's hit
00:58:14was travelling
00:58:16really was travelling
00:58:17scored one
00:58:19very nicely
00:58:20taken goal
00:58:20tonight
00:58:21already James
00:58:21Garner
00:58:22squeezed for room
00:58:31Douglas Luiz
00:58:32he's lost it
00:58:33and all of a sudden
00:58:33the gaps are
00:58:34beginning to come
00:58:35a bit more
00:58:35frequently for
00:58:36Everton
00:58:37Garner
00:58:40what a spin
00:58:41that is
00:58:41and the ball
00:58:43as well
00:58:43for Barry
00:58:44for 2-0
00:58:46Everton
00:58:46Tiano Barry
00:58:52scores against
00:58:54Nottingham Forest
00:58:55again
00:58:55and while he
00:58:58takes plenty
00:58:59of praise
00:58:59plenty more
00:59:01needs to come
00:59:01the way
00:59:02of James Garner
00:59:03what a fabulous
00:59:06assist from the
00:59:07Everton midfielder
00:59:08and the relief
00:59:10etched across
00:59:11the face
00:59:12of Tiano Barry
00:59:13to add another
00:59:15to his Premier
00:59:16League tally
00:59:16most Nottingham
00:59:20Forest fans
00:59:21are still in here
00:59:22but there are
00:59:22one or two
00:59:23red seats
00:59:23that are
00:59:24beginning to
00:59:25appear
00:59:25backward
00:59:28oh he's got
00:59:29the room
00:59:30backward
00:59:30oh it's gone
00:59:31all the way
00:59:32across
00:59:32it's an
00:59:34Everton away
00:59:35win
00:59:35that will
00:59:36rejuvenate
00:59:37hopes of a
00:59:38European charge
00:59:39this season
00:59:39and they have
00:59:41done the double
00:59:41over Nottingham Forest
00:59:42in the space
00:59:43of a few weeks
00:59:44that is three
00:59:45straight defeats
00:59:46now for
00:59:47Sean Dyche's
00:59:48side
00:59:48I always saw
00:59:50tonight have been
00:59:50a really difficult
00:59:51game because
00:59:52Nottingham Forest
00:59:53are probably
00:59:53pushing really hard
00:59:54for the points
00:59:55I thought they
00:59:56played really well
00:59:56against Manchester
00:59:57City at the
00:59:57weekend and
00:59:58were a bit unlucky
00:59:59not to take
01:00:00something from the
01:00:00game
01:00:00so it was never
01:00:01going to be an
01:00:02easy game for us
01:00:03and then obviously
01:00:03with the players
01:00:04we have missing
01:00:05but great credit
01:00:06to the ones who
01:00:06come in
01:00:07they've done a great
01:00:07job
01:00:08really did
01:00:08We've dominated
01:00:09the game in
01:00:10many ways
01:00:10but not with
01:00:11that real edge
01:00:11and that cutting
01:00:12edge
01:00:12and certainly
01:00:13if you're going
01:00:13to dominate
01:00:14don't lose
01:00:14the game
01:00:15to two really
01:00:15poor goals
01:00:16defensively
01:00:17not enough edge
01:00:18from us
01:00:19and I think
01:00:19that's the next
01:00:20step
01:00:20when the expectation
01:00:21grows
01:00:22what about us
01:00:22growing
01:00:23I think
01:00:23that's the next
01:00:23step
01:00:24this club's
01:00:24played a massive
01:00:25part in my
01:00:26career
01:00:27so I was never
01:00:29going to celebrate
01:00:29if I scored
01:00:30I definitely
01:00:31enjoyed the second
01:00:31goal way more
01:00:32the work that I
01:00:34did and then
01:00:35the pass
01:00:36I was just praying
01:00:37that he put it
01:00:37in the back of the
01:00:38net
01:00:38and he did
01:00:39so I was really
01:00:41happy
01:00:41and that makes
01:00:42it a lot easier
01:00:43going into the
01:00:43final five or ten
01:00:44minutes
01:00:45two up rather
01:00:46than one
01:00:46Well no wonder
01:00:48James Garner was
01:00:49happy with a goal
01:00:50and an assist
01:00:50against his old
01:00:51club
01:00:51Well he goes under
01:00:53the radar a little
01:00:53bit I mean
01:00:54Dewsbury Hall
01:00:55Grealish and Jai
01:00:56tend to get a lot
01:00:57of the headlines
01:00:57when Everton
01:00:57have done well
01:00:58this season
01:00:58but he's been
01:00:59terrific and today
01:01:00was arguably his
01:01:01best performance
01:01:02of the season
01:01:03he's filled in
01:01:04in various positions
01:01:05he's playing in
01:01:05midfield at the
01:01:06moment
01:01:06he's enjoying it
01:01:07he's technically
01:01:08very good
01:01:08we know that
01:01:09this is a brilliant
01:01:10finish
01:01:10first chance Everton
01:01:11had in the game
01:01:12really really
01:01:14good finish
01:01:14that is
01:01:15I like the fact
01:01:16he can play quick
01:01:17he knows when
01:01:18he's got time
01:01:18on the ball
01:01:19he travels with
01:01:20the ball nicely
01:01:20he can get Everton
01:01:23up the pitch
01:01:23at times
01:01:24and just release
01:01:25that pressure
01:01:25he's a clever
01:01:26footballer
01:01:27he's not
01:01:27physically that
01:01:28big and doesn't
01:01:29rely so much on
01:01:30the aggressive
01:01:31side of the game
01:01:32but this
01:01:32this is what he's
01:01:34capable of
01:01:35we've seen him
01:01:35score a few long
01:01:36ranges
01:01:36that's a close
01:01:37effort
01:01:37and he does the
01:01:38hard work
01:01:39he can't play in the
01:01:39middle of the park
01:01:40unless you're prepared
01:01:40to do that
01:01:41get back into
01:01:42defensive areas
01:01:44and block crosses
01:01:44and stick with your
01:01:45runners
01:01:45and this is the
01:01:46highlight for me
01:01:47I mean
01:01:47as a midfielder
01:01:49this type of assist
01:01:50is the most pleasing
01:01:51lovely bit of skill
01:01:52and then can you
01:01:53find the weight of
01:01:54the pass
01:01:54beautiful
01:01:55into Barry
01:01:56who gets his
01:01:57second goal
01:01:58and pleases
01:02:00those Evertonians
01:02:01who go
01:02:01but this is
01:02:02top midfield
01:02:04play
01:02:04and it
01:02:06deserved a goal
01:02:07for the brilliance
01:02:08it's his fifth game
01:02:10it's his fifth game
01:02:10it's central midfielder
01:02:11in a row now
01:02:12and you're looking at
01:02:13you touched on it
01:02:13there
01:02:13Keenan Drewsby
01:02:15Hall stepping out
01:02:15through injury
01:02:16and there's been a
01:02:17depleted side
01:02:17who's going to step up
01:02:19he's stepped up now
01:02:20and Everton fans are
01:02:21looking at him
01:02:22over the course of this
01:02:23season
01:02:23how good are you
01:02:25what are you
01:02:26I think we're starting
01:02:27to see the picture
01:02:27and he's got to get
01:02:28his contract
01:02:29so he's out of contract
01:02:30but apparently
01:02:30for the end of the season
01:02:31which is unbelievable
01:02:32really
01:02:33talking about
01:02:34a plan for the game
01:02:36it was very clear
01:02:37what Nottingham Forest
01:02:37and Sean Dyche intended
01:02:3946 crosses
01:02:40from Nottingham Forest
01:02:42in this game
01:02:42but
01:02:43it says here
01:02:44only 8 successful
01:02:45but you would read it
01:02:47slightly differently Danny
01:02:47obviously
01:02:49watching the game
01:02:50you see the quality
01:02:51of the crosses
01:02:52and the only reason
01:02:53the successful number
01:02:54there is low
01:02:55is because of the
01:02:55performance of O'Brien
01:02:56and Tarkovsky
01:02:57who were absolutely
01:02:58outstanding
01:02:59there was a couple
01:03:00of poor headers
01:03:00from Forest
01:03:00when they did get
01:03:01the first contacts
01:03:02but a lot of quality
01:03:03from Forest in wide areas
01:03:05and something I think
01:03:06is a positive for them
01:03:07moving forward
01:03:08I wouldn't see that
01:03:09stat as a negative
01:03:09just keep getting it
01:03:10in there
01:03:11and of course
01:03:11they'll be having
01:03:12Chris Wood back
01:03:13sooner rather than later
01:03:14Now Manchester United
01:03:17beat Newcastle
01:03:18in the only game
01:03:19on Boxing Day
01:03:20they were back
01:03:20at Old Trafford
01:03:21for the visit of Wolves
01:03:22who are still yet to win
01:03:24and on a run
01:03:25of 11 straight defeats
01:03:26your commentator
01:03:27Steve Bauer
01:03:28Manchester United
01:03:31have lost just twice
01:03:32in the last 12 games
01:03:34they're there
01:03:34without Mason Mount
01:03:35due to a muscle problem
01:03:37it takes the unavoidable list
01:03:38of Ruben Amirim
01:03:39to eight players
01:03:40so Joshua Zertzky
01:03:42starts for only
01:03:43the fourth time
01:03:44in the Premier League
01:03:45this season
01:03:45Wolves who are on
01:03:47the third longest run
01:03:48without a victory
01:03:49in Premier League history
01:03:50are missing
01:03:51the suspended
01:03:51Andre
01:03:52and the injured
01:03:53Santiago Bueno
01:03:54so Tachua
01:03:56and Arias
01:03:57both come in
01:03:58it has been pointed out
01:04:02quite correctly
01:04:03that Wolves have pushed
01:04:04Arsenal
01:04:04and Liverpool
01:04:06away from home
01:04:07very closely indeed
01:04:08recently
01:04:08and their last
01:04:10away Premier League win
01:04:12was here at Old Trafford
01:04:13in April
01:04:14Dorkin
01:04:17over Szczeska
01:04:18and a counter
01:04:19for Jose Sarr
01:04:20who immediately
01:04:22finds Hwang
01:04:23brilliant from him
01:04:25now can he
01:04:27set something
01:04:27moving
01:04:28Zertzky
01:04:31they might go again
01:04:33Joshua Zertzky
01:04:34deflected
01:04:35and Manchester United
01:04:37get the break
01:04:38and they get the lead
01:04:39and that's a tough
01:04:41one on Wolves
01:04:42the way they've
01:04:43started this game
01:04:44it was congested
01:04:46in those central areas
01:04:47but when it came
01:04:48back to Zertzky
01:04:49it hits Krejci
01:04:52and deflects off
01:04:54the Czech Republic
01:04:55international
01:04:55past Jose Sarr
01:04:58and into the back
01:04:59of the net
01:05:00his goal
01:05:01has given his team
01:05:03a 1-0 lead
01:05:04Vigate
01:05:08and to Zertzky
01:05:09Kenya demanding it
01:05:11he's going to go
01:05:11the other way
01:05:12instead to Dorgun
01:05:13he's up against
01:05:15Chachua
01:05:16and he's got Shaw
01:05:17bursting forwards
01:05:18deflected along the way
01:05:21well after his
01:05:22first ever goal
01:05:23for Manchester United
01:05:25on Boxing Day
01:05:26he fancied another go
01:05:28but Chachua
01:05:31just managed
01:05:34to deflect that
01:05:35wide
01:05:36for Manchester
01:05:37United's
01:05:37second corner
01:05:38off the post
01:05:41from the Slovenian
01:05:42Jose Sarr
01:05:43beaten
01:05:43almost 2-0
01:05:46his eighth game
01:05:48in charge tonight
01:05:48two of them
01:05:49against Manchester
01:05:50United
01:05:51and he's lost
01:05:51all seven
01:05:52Wolves have lost
01:05:54their last 11
01:05:55in a row
01:05:56Mane
01:05:57he's found
01:06:00Maracadoa
01:06:02in turn
01:06:04finds Bueno
01:06:05and Lammans
01:06:07denies him
01:06:08with a save
01:06:10with his legs
01:06:10here's Mane
01:06:11and that's taken
01:06:14by the Belgian
01:06:15cleanly
01:06:16decent contact
01:06:17from Bueno
01:06:18next to the stop
01:06:19with that left leg
01:06:20from Lammans
01:06:21no room for Bueno
01:06:25to deliver
01:06:25as yet
01:06:26but there is now
01:06:27no chances
01:06:29taken by Dorgun
01:06:30and that is
01:06:31Wolves
01:06:32first corner
01:06:33of the game
01:06:33Manchester United's
01:06:36turn to have
01:06:37everybody back
01:06:38that came off
01:06:38Zertski
01:06:39what an excellent
01:06:40header
01:06:401-1
01:06:41and it's
01:06:43Krejci
01:06:44who the goal
01:06:45deflected off
01:06:46for Manchester
01:06:48United
01:06:48to equalise
01:06:50for Wolves
01:06:51right on the
01:06:53stroke of
01:06:54half time
01:06:54inadvertently
01:06:56flicked on
01:06:56by Zertski
01:06:57but what a
01:06:58perfect header
01:06:59from Krejci
01:07:01right in the
01:07:04corner
01:07:04and that was a
01:07:06sweet moment
01:07:07for him
01:07:07Manchester United's
01:07:11half time change
01:07:12is the introduction
01:07:13of Jack Fletcher
01:07:14in place of
01:07:16Joshua Zertski
01:07:17but apart from
01:07:20Dallon
01:07:20now Fletcher
01:07:22it's heaven again
01:07:25he's off at block
01:07:26by Doherty
01:07:27now Casemiro
01:07:30that's nice
01:07:31Cesc
01:07:32he was offside
01:07:33anyway
01:07:34I'm going to be
01:07:36relieved
01:07:37because he should
01:07:37have done better
01:07:38oh was he
01:07:41wanted to
01:07:43in the end
01:07:44and they're
01:07:47finished winning
01:07:48eight Premier League
01:07:49games without
01:07:50Bruno Fernandes
01:07:51on Boxing Day
01:07:52Manchester United
01:07:53but they've
01:07:54pegged back
01:07:55tonight
01:07:55without their
01:07:56skipper
01:07:56it's direct
01:07:59towards Dallo
01:08:00Doherty's
01:08:01header
01:08:01oh and it's
01:08:02going to be
01:08:03an own goal
01:08:03is it
01:08:04Jose Zert
01:08:07has prevented
01:08:08it
01:08:08with a
01:08:10miraculous
01:08:10recovery
01:08:11the GDS
01:08:13watch hasn't
01:08:13gone off
01:08:14and it looked
01:08:16as though it
01:08:16was going to
01:08:17beat Jose
01:08:17Zert
01:08:18with the
01:08:18determination
01:08:19the flexibility
01:08:20to get back
01:08:21and recover
01:08:22that situation
01:08:23outstanding
01:08:24this is
01:08:26how close
01:08:27it was
01:08:27to 2-1
01:08:28look at that
01:08:29goodness me
01:08:32Xiao Gomez
01:08:37didn't get
01:08:45there
01:08:45brilliant
01:08:46from
01:08:46Lamens
01:08:47and somehow
01:08:48the follow-up
01:08:50from
01:08:51Mosquera
01:08:52didn't go
01:08:53in
01:08:53well this is
01:08:56a real
01:08:56let-off
01:08:56for Manchester
01:08:57United
01:08:57Crecci's
01:08:59effort
01:08:59denied
01:09:00Lamens
01:09:02as well
01:09:02on the
01:09:02floor
01:09:03you know
01:09:03agonising
01:09:06from
01:09:07Mosquera
01:09:07and indeed
01:09:08his manager
01:09:08Crecci
01:09:14Mosquera
01:09:22kept it
01:09:23in
01:09:23Chichura
01:09:26has beaten
01:09:27Shaw
01:09:27here
01:09:28and it's
01:09:30back towards
01:09:30Arias
01:09:31he was
01:09:35under excellent
01:09:35pressure
01:09:36from
01:09:36Dalo
01:09:37who got
01:09:38the final
01:09:38touch
01:09:39the Colombian
01:09:41who's yet
01:09:41to score
01:09:42for Wolves
01:09:42I saw
01:09:44the headlines
01:09:45there
01:09:45Shashka
01:09:51get it back
01:09:54from Cunha
01:09:54trying to go
01:09:56around
01:09:56Doherty
01:09:57Cunha
01:09:58to keep
01:09:59things moving
01:10:00Casemiro
01:10:01Shashka
01:10:03and the
01:10:04follow-up's in
01:10:05from Dorgo
01:10:06but he's
01:10:07offside
01:10:08the flag
01:10:10is up
01:10:10the celebrations
01:10:12will be cut
01:10:13short
01:10:14and the
01:10:16Boxing Day
01:10:17hero
01:10:17who was hoping
01:10:18to write
01:10:18another script
01:10:19looks like
01:10:21he's going to
01:10:21be denied
01:10:22yes he's
01:10:23off
01:10:24no goal
01:10:25still 1-1
01:10:27another night
01:10:29of frustration
01:10:30for him
01:10:30drop points
01:10:33when they were
01:10:35least expected
01:10:35Rob well done
01:10:38your first point
01:10:39I mean
01:10:39if you're getting
01:10:40greedy
01:10:40could it have
01:10:41been more
01:10:41potentially
01:10:42I think it's
01:10:42the least we
01:10:43deserved
01:10:43you know
01:10:44it's another
01:10:45good performance
01:10:45it's progress
01:10:46and I know
01:10:47that's been
01:10:47slow in terms
01:10:49of results
01:10:49but our performances
01:10:50especially away
01:10:52from home
01:10:52have warranted
01:10:53I think more
01:10:53than the points
01:10:54and what we've
01:10:55got
01:10:55it's nice to
01:10:57take something
01:10:57away from the
01:10:57game
01:10:57I feel we
01:10:58deserve that
01:10:58Ruben just a
01:10:59point in the
01:10:59end
01:11:00how did you
01:11:00see that
01:11:00I think it
01:11:02was a
01:11:02strange game
01:11:03we already
01:11:04knew it
01:11:05that would
01:11:07be a
01:11:07different game
01:11:08if you compare
01:11:09to Newcastle
01:11:10we needed
01:11:11more imagination
01:11:12today
01:11:13but we
01:11:14tried
01:11:14but the
01:11:15quality was
01:11:16not there
01:11:17also because
01:11:17the characteristics
01:11:18is not the
01:11:18right characteristics
01:11:19in this moment
01:11:21but we
01:11:22tried
01:11:22we need to
01:11:24recover to
01:11:24the next one
01:11:25if Manchester
01:11:26United had
01:11:27one
01:11:27they would
01:11:27have moved
01:11:28up to
01:11:28fourth in
01:11:29the table
01:11:29but Wolves
01:11:30losing run
01:11:31comes to an
01:11:32end at
01:11:32Old Trafford
01:11:32just their
01:11:33third point
01:11:34of the season
01:11:35and Amorim
01:11:36looks as though
01:11:37he was reverting
01:11:39to type
01:11:39going back
01:11:40to that
01:11:403-4-3
01:11:41rather than
01:11:41the back
01:11:41four he tried
01:11:42against
01:11:42Newcastle
01:11:43yeah I
01:11:43mean
01:11:44you can
01:11:44put the
01:11:44formations
01:11:45up
01:11:45you can
01:11:45put the
01:11:45personnel
01:11:46up
01:11:46for me
01:11:46Lamond's
01:11:47played
01:11:47well
01:11:48you're
01:11:48looking at
01:11:49a continuation
01:11:50of a problem
01:11:50in consistency
01:11:51in terms of
01:11:53just an overall
01:11:54performance of
01:11:55intensity
01:11:55that's there
01:11:56and there's two
01:11:57managers from
01:11:58tonight
01:11:58for me
01:11:59and one
01:12:00that's worked
01:12:00with the team
01:12:01for a short
01:12:01period of time
01:12:02and you can
01:12:02see small
01:12:03grains of
01:12:04improvement
01:12:04for Wolves
01:12:05and small
01:12:05crumbs of
01:12:07comfort
01:12:07and energy
01:12:08to come from
01:12:09the results
01:12:10and then you're
01:12:10looking at
01:12:10Manchester United
01:12:11and Ameren
01:12:12has spoken at
01:12:13length over a
01:12:14period of time
01:12:15saying
01:12:15last season
01:12:16there were too
01:12:16many games
01:12:17for us to
01:12:17work on the
01:12:18manager
01:12:18on the training
01:12:19pitch for the
01:12:20manager
01:12:20now he's had
01:12:22half a season
01:12:23on this
01:12:23and he's gone
01:12:24back from one
01:12:24formation to
01:12:25another
01:12:25and back again
01:12:26I'm just not
01:12:27seeing the
01:12:28positional
01:12:28the formational
01:12:30improvement
01:12:31or the performance
01:12:32improvement
01:12:33and they
01:12:34didn't get
01:12:34the result
01:12:35Xerxes
01:12:36did get the
01:12:36goal
01:12:37but came
01:12:38off at
01:12:39half time
01:12:39tactical
01:12:40substitution
01:12:41is he just
01:12:43someone who's
01:12:44waiting to
01:12:44be sold
01:12:45I think so
01:12:46yeah
01:12:46he's had
01:12:48enough chances
01:12:48the fans
01:12:49haven't really
01:12:49tainted
01:12:50him
01:12:50he'll probably
01:12:51say he's not
01:12:51been given
01:12:51as many
01:12:52opportunities
01:12:53as he
01:12:53thinks he
01:12:53deserves
01:12:54but for the
01:12:55quality United
01:12:55need he's
01:12:56probably not up
01:12:57to and I
01:12:57think we'll
01:12:57see him go
01:12:58in this
01:12:58window
01:12:59probably
01:12:59let's take a
01:13:01look at the
01:13:01last table of
01:13:01the year
01:13:02Arsenal begin
01:13:03the new
01:13:03year
01:13:03five points
01:13:04clear at the
01:13:04top
01:13:04Manchester City
01:13:05not in action
01:13:06until the
01:13:06first of
01:13:07January
01:13:07when they
01:13:07travel to
01:13:08Sunderland
