00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:30Good evening.
00:52The new season is well and truly up and running
00:55and we've got three games on the way for you from the opening Sunday.
00:58Danny Murphy and Joe Hart have pre-seasoned well and are raring to go.
01:03We begin at Old Trafford.
01:04Manchester United and their new-look forward line against Arsenal
01:08with Mikel Arteta's side coming into this season
01:10on the back of three second-place finishes in a row.
01:13Commentary comes from Guy Mowbray.
01:16Once again, Arsenal's aim is to go just one better.
01:21Manchester United, well, they have to be miles better.
01:24But given their finish of 15th last season, that is surely the simpler assignment.
01:31They're undoubtedly having a go for more goals
01:33with new signings Brian Invermo and Mateus Cunha straight into the side for game one
01:38whilst the towering Slovenian Benjamin Szczko is a substitute.
01:43Arsenal were linked with him but spent on Victor Jocheres instead
01:47and the Swedish striker bought from Sporting Lisbon is in for his debut from the off
01:51along with midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
01:55First, we pause to honour the memory of someone we should be enjoying watching perform
02:00in the Premier League this season.
02:03Diogo Jota, along with his brother Andre Silva, taken too soon.
02:07The fixture computer clearly has an impish human sense of humour
02:29putting these two together for game one of a new season.
02:34Kalafiori in again.
02:38Lodegaard takes over.
02:40Leaves Dorgu on the deck.
02:41Corner Arsenal.
02:44Altai Bayender starting in the Manchester United goal.
02:47Andre Onana has missed pre-season and is not a judge to be fit enough to play just yet.
02:53Supermendi on the move.
03:00Martell has gone near.
03:02And Bayender can't keep it out and it's nodded in on the line.
03:06Kalafiori got the touch.
03:11A super soft goal to get Arsenal going for the new season.
03:16Altai Bayender feels he's being impeded by Saliba but he's still got to do better than that.
03:21It's going to be checked.
03:27Inevitable wrestling's going on in front of it all.
03:30Now is that going to be seen as a foul on the keeper?
03:32I think the arm into the side might be a factor there.
03:38And the view there is there's not enough in it.
03:41So Kalafiori from a centimetre out heads Arsenal into the lead.
03:46That's not the stuffing out of what was a positive sounding ground.
03:52Riot made to hurry and made to struggle by Matthias Cunha who thinks he was bumped off the ball unfairly.
04:01Not sure that was the case.
04:03What is undoubtedly the case is that David Riot was very, very fortunate.
04:07Michael Arteta's always got a lovely way with words and quotes.
04:12Asked about being under pressure to win the title this time round.
04:16They said this week, you have to keep digging because one day gold is going to be there.
04:22Dorgun.
04:23Matthias Cunha wants it.
04:25Dorgun went for it.
04:26And it was the right call.
04:28What a good try.
04:29He arrived at Old Trafford last season with a reputation of being a full-back who can't half-finish.
04:35Well, he hasn't got his first goal for the club yet.
04:38But he was close there.
04:41Odegaard.
04:43Pass one.
04:45Pass two.
04:47Odegaard shot.
04:48Couldn't get past three.
04:51He couldn't squeeze it far enough into the corner to properly test Altai Binder.
04:56Former Manchester United defender Gabriel Enza is now on Mikel Arteta's Arsenal coaching staff.
05:08Bruno Fernandes.
05:11Mount.
05:13Saliba's got to be careful with the holding.
05:16Matthias Cunha.
05:17Really sharp.
05:20And it rolls along the line for Calafiore to now clear.
05:23Matthias Cunha starting to make a big difference to Manchester United's forward play.
05:28That might well have been squeezing in.
05:31I reckon that's a pretty good save.
05:331-0 Arsenal.
05:34But United have had more chances to score.
05:38Last season, Arsenal failed to win ten Premier League matches from leading positions.
05:43Which is the first time that's happened to them.
05:48Matthias Cunha.
05:49At first, it looked as though he'd given himself too much to do.
05:52But he did well to get there.
05:55Saliba all over him.
05:56Holding him.
05:57Now it's a free kick.
05:59And now there's an increase in the noise levels.
06:06Now can Manchester United do to Arsenal.
06:08What was done to them in the early stages?
06:13It's Bruno Fernandes.
06:14Right on top of the goalkeeper.
06:17Raya has sorted it out though.
06:22De Ligt standing right in front of Raya.
06:26That's good from David Raya.
06:27That's strong.
06:28That's what Altai Bajander needed to do first half.
06:30Well, this has got the crowd to their feet.
06:34Casemiro is off.
06:36Manuel Lugate is coming on.
06:37It's not that change that they're interested in.
06:39Not really.
06:40It's this one.
06:41Off goes Mason Mount.
06:43On comes Benjamin Szczesko.
06:45Big, big money.
06:49Big, big striker.
06:56There's Cunha.
06:57Oh, beautiful.
06:59Ben White with a desperate grab or two.
07:01And he can't stop Cunha.
07:03And he finds Mbumo.
07:05And Mbumo keeps his feeding.
07:07Won't fall for Ahmad.
07:08And Calafiore has done the clearing.
07:14He's got the place pumped again.
07:16Bruno Fernandes.
07:18Improvised try from Mbumo.
07:21Wide it goes.
07:27Magnificent from Mateus Cunha.
07:31Looked as though he'd really started something here.
07:35Mbumo struggled at first to get it out of his feet.
07:38And it wouldn't run kindly for Ahmad.
07:42Gabriel did everything he could just to stay in the way.
07:46He's in the way twice.
07:57Now it's Mateus Cunha.
08:00Dorgou.
08:02It's deflected.
08:03And Mbumo's on to it.
08:05And Raya was ready for it.
08:06Bruno Fernandes.
08:12This time it's Cesco.
08:14And it's wide.
08:21And the deflection aided Brian Mbumo there.
08:24He's able to come on to it and generate the power.
08:27Ahmad just a few groans in the crowd.
08:35There's a little bit more pace for the attack.
08:37Ahmad supplies it.
08:38He skips past Madweki again.
08:40This is Cesco.
08:41Mateus Cunha follows it out.
08:46Sure.
08:50Claimed by Raya.
08:52Claims from Manchester United that Ahmad was unfairly impeded.
08:55Nothing in that.
08:58Both hanging on to one another.
09:07Here's Havertz.
09:09And Maguire stays in his way.
09:11And that's his first involvement to give away a free kick.
09:13And he started with Ugarte carelessly passing the ball to Kai Havertz.
09:19Which is why I guess Harry Maguire thought, well, I've got to do something.
09:27Bermuda guard or Rice.
09:30It's going to be Declan Rice.
09:32Couldn't squeeze it all the way, but that's because it was deflected along the way.
09:39Might well have done it otherwise.
09:41United have to be a team in a hurry.
09:43They're used to this sort of position.
09:45Lost seven of their last dozen Premier League games at Old Trafford.
09:49Ahmad to Bruno Fernandes.
09:51A little bit of momentum lost with that pass.
09:54De Ligt wants it inside.
09:56He's got it.
09:58De Ligt across into the centre.
10:00Maguire tries to get there.
10:05Arsenal bundle it away.
10:07There's a potential penalty's being jacked.
10:10I know not what for right now.
10:12There was a little bit happening.
10:15Mateus Cunha, I think, might have been tackled, certainly, by Saliba.
10:19Play goes on.
10:20Dorgou, it won't sit, it won't bounce, it won't stick.
10:23I can tell you the check's over.
10:26This is why Manchester United were asking for a penalty.
10:30Yes, there's contact.
10:32But I don't think there's enough ever to overturn the ref's view that, well, let it all go on.
10:42Erdegaard.
10:46Havits.
10:47To the corner and intending to stay there.
10:51No, no, he's done better, he's found Erdegaard.
10:54And Erdegaard plays it through for Saka.
10:57De Ligt back to block.
10:58It's at his team.
11:06Nearly there for a day-one win.
11:10Erdegaard slaloms through.
11:11Bakayo Saka beats Mboumo to the ball.
11:19Plays it in.
11:20That surely had ball, Madhuke.
11:22Not that he could finish it anyway.
11:26Saka.
11:27Mourinho.
11:29That'll be Bayern de Haas, but he's got to be quick.
11:32He's got to launch it.
11:33No, he doesn't.
11:34He's played it short to Bruno Fernandes.
11:35He's got to launch it.
11:37Not quick enough, it's been Manchester United's failing all day.
11:43One goal wins it.
11:45Scored very early on by defender Riccardo Calafiore.
11:48And the season starts with the same old story here.
11:52Manchester United beaten at home.
11:55And on the other side, the season starts with a very familiar old story.
11:59It's 1-0 to the Arsenal.
12:02Very happy.
12:03It's always very challenging to go to Old Trafford.
12:06You can sense and feel the momentum they're trying to build here.
12:09It was a special atmosphere with the new signings and to come here away and win the game.
12:14It's a big result.
12:15Clearly, we deserve more.
12:18We were the better team.
12:19I think that is clear.
12:21But in the end, we lost.
12:23We did a lot of things right.
12:24In the end, we should cross more the ball to the box, especially with the right players.
12:29I think we didn't even play our best football, you know.
12:32But still, we managed to get the free points.
12:34So, I'm so happy and we are so happy for this.
12:36What's the spirit like in the Arsenal camp?
12:38How have the new boys come in and joined in with things?
12:41The new boys are going to help us a lot.
12:43I think and I hope it's going to be the secret to win something this year.
12:47Obviously, it's very frustrating the way we conceded the goal.
12:49We were very aware of what they could do in set plays.
12:54And not being able of scoring with so many chances that we created is something that we have to look at.
13:00You've spoken about the need for positivity on the field, but also off the field.
13:03And every time you went forward, it was matched by the noise from the stands.
13:06They just want to have that feeling again.
13:08I think it's the simple thing.
13:10So, we go to Old Trafford, we are not going to get bored.
13:14Sometimes you win, sometimes you draw.
13:16We need to win more than we won last season, of course.
13:20But they want to see something.
13:22They want to be here and to feel something.
13:24I think they felt something.
13:26Yeah, great atmosphere today at Old Trafford.
13:28Now, no big surprise that Arsenal get their scoring off this season from a set piece.
13:32They've scored 31 goals from corners over the last two seasons.
13:35But you're going to have a closer look at Binder's role in this goal.
13:39Yeah, yeah.
13:39And I think it's important when we go to analysis, I think it's important that we run it clean.
13:44Because I know that everyone at home is going to have watched this game.
13:46Everyone in the stadium will watch this game.
13:48And their first immediate reaction will be, the goalkeeper has to be stronger.
13:52Now, look, I'm not here to say whether it's good, bad or indifferent.
13:55I need to explain why that situation has occurred.
13:58So, as Bayon Deer sets up here, he's looking out.
14:01He feels like he's got mount.
14:02He's dealing with Saliba.
14:03As he looks out a lot across the edge, everything else is in place.
14:06And he's thinking, anything that comes to that near post, I can come and deal with.
14:11So, this is before Declan Rice has started his run-up.
14:14Now, that's where he sees it.
14:16That's where the action is going to take place.
14:18Mount taking care of Saliba.
14:20Bayon Deer focusing on everything that's in front of him.
14:22Now, in the millisecond it takes for Declan Rice to approach the ball.
14:28And as he gets to here, the whole situation has changed.
14:31Saliba's removed mount out of the way.
14:33And he's got himself locked in for a battle, for a physical battle,
14:36that Bayon Deer wouldn't necessarily have been prepared for.
14:39So, if we just move it on.
14:45As the ball gets to here, Bayon Deer will be very aware that that's his ball.
14:50So, he now needs to deal with Saliba.
14:52He needs to get him out of the way and create some room so he can deal with the ball.
14:56He'll be well aware he's not catching it, but he wants to get a good punch on it and clear his lines.
15:00Now, this is the moment that he just manages to free himself.
15:04He just gets away from Saliba.
15:06So, he needs to get set here and this is where he needs forward momentum.
15:09He needs to be setting off and attacking that ball.
15:11Saliba knows that.
15:12He knows what he's doing in this situation.
15:14Arsenal's strongest player, low centre of gravity.
15:17And he just gets the nudge in as Bayon Deer tries to take off.
15:21And that is why it results in him not being able to use his right hand.
15:25Flaps a left hand at it.
15:26And Kelly Fury cannot believe his luck.
15:28Easiest goal.
15:28He'll score.
15:30Now, in this situation, personally, I would always want my teammate next to me.
15:34I want my teammate.
15:35I want Mount the other side of Saliba so I could use him as a human shield.
15:39I'd be using my left arm up against him because it's not a foul when you're pushing against your own player.
15:44It's now a physical battle.
15:45Like I say, he's up against Arsenal's strongest player.
15:48I'd be using Mount to get him away, clear myself some space.
15:51I'd occupy my left arm and then I'd look to use my right arm to punch.
15:55But because he's embroiled in such a strong battle,
15:58and his weight's all over the place, he's not able to get a good solid punch.
16:02And we're going to get a really good example soon of how he could have handled that situation better.
16:06The thing is, though, Joe, as a goalkeeper,
16:07if you do choose a player to stand between you and someone as strong and as big as Saliba,
16:12surely you want someone bigger and with more physical presence than Mount.
16:15Yeah, I agree.
16:16You want someone who's going to handle one of the hardest players on the pitch.
16:18But that's where they chose to do the job.
16:20But Saliba just got around it so easily.
16:22OK, and then, of course, Raya has, not long afterwards, the perfect textbook almost example of what you should have done.
16:29I mean, it wasn't the same move exactly, but a brilliant punch in what was really a faultless afternoon from him.
16:34Yeah, he had an excellent game.
16:36He had some really good moments.
16:37And if you're going to have a Premier League winning goalkeeper, you don't just have to make big saves.
16:41You have to command your box.
16:42And what I talked about is how he frees up his right arm so he can be able to punch away from the goal.
16:47Deals with the lit.
16:48That's a tough physical battle.
16:49Just gets that space so he can push it and clear his lines.
16:52That's music to his defender's ears.
16:55But as we talked about, not only has he done that, that's his bread and butter.
16:59This save I thought he made against Cunha.
17:01Cunha looked a menace all afternoon.
17:03Now, at first glance, not everyone would have picked up on that, but I knew straight away.
17:07That is such a sharp save.
17:08So many more micro-adjustments getting set.
17:12And it's a really smart shot from Cunha.
17:13He probably wouldn't have expected it.
17:15And here, to change the trajectory of the ball, there's no room for error.
17:19That's an incredible save and Cunha knows it.
17:21He absolutely knows.
17:22That's a brilliant save.
17:22He thought he scored.
17:24And as the ball comes here, later on in the game, your team's 1-1-0 away at Old Trafford.
17:28That's exactly what you want.
17:31Now, what Rea does so well is when he sets, he realises he's not coming for the ball.
17:35Makes adjustments.
17:36Here, these little micro-adjustments.
17:38Sets.
17:38Buemo has a great header and that is all over Instagram later.
17:41That's a huge save, man-in-the-batch performance.
17:43We were swooning and you were going, oh, that's easy.
17:46That's your bread and butter.
17:47That's the one that you've got the pitcher blowing up on your wall.
17:49Definitely.
17:50Arsenal's attack today, not as good as their stats, kind of, on average would be over last
17:55season.
17:55Not as many shots as you'd expect from their ex-G's.
17:57But actually, for Jokeres, you know, first game in the Premier League, there he is playing
18:02at the centre-forward that Arsenal have been desperate to get hold of.
18:06And actually, it was a quiet debut, wasn't it?
18:08I felt for him a bit, Gab.
18:10I mean, touches in the opposition box, three, says it all, really.
18:13The stats aren't good.
18:14But that's because he's relying on other players to get him the ball.
18:17Arsenal have got brilliant, creative players.
18:18And they weren't quite in the races today.
18:20It was a below-key performance from them.
18:23And as I said, their main creators were not feeding him.
18:25But this is what we do.
18:27You know, we build players up and then we overanalyse in the first week or two.
18:30Let him settle in.
18:31It'll take time for Arsenal to get used to having a set-for.
18:33Any player needs to build up relationships with other players, especially forwards, when
18:37to make the run, who can I trust to get me the passes?
18:39And physically as well.
18:41It's the Premier League.
18:42We know it's different than the Portuguese.
18:43And plenty for Manchester United to get used to as well in terms of new players.
18:46And they'll leave the stadium tonight, those fans, feeling disappointed.
18:50So they didn't take a point or three points.
18:51But you think there's plenty to be positive about.
18:54The progression was incredible.
18:56More dynamic, more direct, more confidence.
19:00Physically, they looked really good.
19:02And I think a lot of that comes from having players high up the pitch, especially the two
19:06new boys who are just high in quality and good, skilful players who are physical and able.
19:12And they scare opposition.
19:14So the system we know, excuse me, the shape, he won't deviate from it.
19:19Playing forward early.
19:20We saw a lot.
19:21There's the front three.
19:22Lots of times last season.
19:24Matt Bruno supporting them.
19:25Manchester United playing out from the back.
19:27Constantly getting caught in the defensive third.
19:30We hardly saw that today.
19:32Then you've got the runners because they've got pace.
19:34They want to get in behind.
19:35So if you've got players at the top of the pitch who want to get in behind and want to threaten
19:40the back, then get the ball early more quickly.
19:42There's that front three again.
19:43All in positions they're familiar with and have played with before.
19:46It's a great ball from Mount, who, by the way, had an excellent game.
19:48And that's positive.
19:49But then you've got the wingbacks more confident, willing to run forward, to support their forward
19:54players, knowing they're going to keep it, knowing it's going to stick.
19:58There's the back three.
19:59We talked about it many times last season.
20:01They weren't coming out enough, taking a risk to help the midfielders and win the ball
20:05high up.
20:06As soon as they win it, again, there's the wingback Dogu this time, high up the pitch.
20:10Brilliant strike and a few inches away from scoring, of course.
20:14And look, talk about tactics all you want.
20:17Quality.
20:18Brilliant dribbler, physically strong, full of confidence.
20:21United didn't have this last season.
20:23Hoyland low on confidence, Xerxi low on confidence, Maynou playing up there.
20:28It's a completely different dynamic.
20:29Here's this pass forward.
20:31His distribution was great, by the way.
20:33Great ball in.
20:34And then, what have you got?
20:35Brilliant passer in Bruno.
20:37And now he's got runners linking up.
20:40So much to be pleased about for Manchester United fans.
20:45And then, again, moments like this.
20:48You know, somebody who's got the confidence to take responsibility at Old Trafford in front
20:52of that expectant crowd.
20:53He looks up.
20:54He's got runners.
20:55Cesc goes on the pitch at this stage.
20:57Even more options.
20:58And to be honest with you, I haven't seen Arsenal struggle that much in the second half
21:03in terms of not being able to get out, being pinned back.
21:07And again, look, there's the front three.
21:10They get in the box.
21:11They've got numbers in there.
21:12And Bruno wants to round off his day.
21:13Good performance.
21:14And that's the save we've talked about.
21:16But overall, I mean, it's chalk and cheese, Gab, honestly.
21:19And Maynou fans can actually be, I think, quite positive about this.
21:2422 shots.
21:25And, of course, Cesc came on.
21:26Massive reaction, didn't he, from the fans in the stadium.
21:29He used to come into that as well.
21:31Exactly.
21:31And I was going to say, and that is a great positive for them, that presumably next week,
21:34Craven Cottage will get his debut.
21:35Yeah, he really is.
21:36And it feels like the new players that have had a little bit of time, you know, Cunha,
21:40Buomo, they've had a little bit of time.
21:41They've got the system.
21:42So, they'll believe that Cesc, they can get him in, they can get him firing.
21:45So, Danny, what's the priority, you think, for Manchester United for the rest of the
21:48transfer window?
21:50Well, some might think a goalkeeper, but I'd probably think a central midfielder.
21:53If they're going to play Bruno in there, someone with a bit more physicality than
21:57Ugarte and Casemiro, more powerful to do a bit more running for him.
22:02But, I mean, look, even if they don't get anybody, that front end of the pitch is going
22:08to make their season completely different than last.
22:10Because every team they play against is wary.
22:13OK.
22:14Nottingham Forest's seventh place finish last season was their best in 30 years.
22:19They began the new campaign against Brentford with their new head coach,
22:22Keith Andrews, taking charge of his first competitive game.
22:25At the City Ground for this one, Martin Fisher.
22:29Hugely contrasting emotions for fans of these clubs over the summer.
22:33Excited chatter in these parts about the return of European football to the City
22:38Ground.
22:38Nervous mutterings down Brentford way about life after Thomas Frank and a new season
22:43without many of their stars.
22:46Dan Undoy is Forest's only debutant today, but more new signings arriving daily, it seems,
22:52keeping Morgan Gibbs-White probably their best bit of business.
22:56For Brentford, Mbumo, Norgard and Flecken have gone.
22:59Wisser wants to.
23:00The new faces for the new manager today are Keevian Kelleher and Anthony Malambo.
23:09Brentford have yet to lose on the opening day in the Premier League.
23:13Forest last won a top-tier curtain-raiser on this very day in 1996.
23:19The late Kevin Campbell got a hat-trick that day at Coventry.
23:22The Reds went on to be relegated.
23:24Hudson-Odoi is found across.
23:32Collins steps in before his new goalkeeper, Keevian Kelleher, could collect.
23:37Mattingham Forest get the first corner of the afternoon deep towards Wood.
23:45And it will drop for Wood, and Wood starts this season in exactly the same fashion as he coloured last season.
23:54It hasn't taken him long.
24:00Five minutes into the new season, and Chris Wood gets his first strike of the campaign.
24:0720 in the Premier League last term.
24:11That was his best ever in the top flight.
24:14And how about that for a smart finish from the Kiwi?
24:18And Forest in front.
24:20The first injury of the season is to Nottingham Forest's goalkeeping coach,
24:27caused by his celebrations of Wood's early strike.
24:33Here's Anderson.
24:34It's lovely stuff.
24:35Anderson's drive!
24:37And hooked away by Lewis Potter.
24:41But Forest at the moment are in top form, moving the ball nicely.
24:46Gibbs-White.
24:52Lovely combination with Wood.
24:55Einer, not quite what he intended, but it still might work Forest's way.
24:58It almost comes to Wood, it still might.
25:00It's cleared by Coyote, only as far as Anderson.
25:04Anderson has another go.
25:06And this time Kelleher right behind it.
25:09Well, the way this game is going,
25:10I don't think we'll have to wait too much longer
25:13before Forest increase their lead.
25:20Welcome to life as a Premier League manager, Keith Andrews.
25:28Morgan Gibbs-White turning into trouble, no foul.
25:31Yarmouk takes over, half a chance here for Brentford.
25:34Sells with his first save of the campaign.
25:36And it's a good one too.
25:40Morgan Gibbs-White dispossessed.
25:43And Yarmouk trying his luck.
25:49This is Henry.
25:52He's gone away from Ondoy.
25:54And he's found a cross.
25:55Jensen had a go.
25:56And it's a brilliant block by Nico Williams
25:59that denies
26:01Igor Thiago
26:03the chance of
26:05not just equalising today,
26:07but the chance to score his first ever
26:10Premier League goal.
26:15Hudson-Odoi.
26:21Anderson free.
26:22Gibbs-White.
26:28Twisting and turning and crossing
26:30and finding
26:30Ondoy
26:31who finds the back of the net
26:34on his Forest debut.
26:36A quite
26:37marvellous finish.
26:39A quite
26:39exquisite
26:40move.
26:43And now the scoreline
26:44properly reflects
26:45Forest's dominance
26:46of this first half.
26:48Ondoy
26:50the £35 million
26:52signing from Bologna
26:53announces
26:54his presence
26:55in a red jersey.
26:59Forest 2
27:00Brentford 0.
27:03It's a long
27:04long way back
27:05for Brentford
27:06from here.
27:11Oh what a ball
27:12that is.
27:13Anderson
27:13Wood is in
27:14for number 3
27:15and he's never going to miss that.
27:17Forest are rampant.
27:25Brentford
27:26blown away.
27:29Quick thinking
27:29from Elliot
27:30Anderson
27:31puts it
27:32on a plate
27:33for last season's
27:35prolific goal scorer.
27:36two in the opening
27:3845 minutes
27:39for last season's
27:42ace
27:42marksman.
27:45It's Forest 3
27:46Brentford 0.
27:47The only question now
27:48how many will
27:49Forest score
27:50and how many
27:51Brentford will concede
27:52before this one
27:53is all over.
27:54Shada
27:57looking to gallop
27:58forward here
27:59for Brentford
27:59fouled by Williams
28:01and that will bring
28:02him a yellow.
28:05Williams knew all
28:06about the threat
28:07of Shada
28:07with his pace.
28:09Seven yellows
28:10last term
28:11and his first
28:12on the opening
28:13day of this.
28:15Lofted forward
28:16by Kelleher.
28:23It's going to be
28:24Jensen with this
28:24throw.
28:26Collins trying to get
28:27free at that
28:28near post.
28:30It's headed away
28:31by Ina
28:32only as far as
28:32Lewis Potter
28:33looping header
28:34onto the top
28:35of the net
28:36rather than
28:37the back of it.
28:38Well
28:39set pieces
28:41were
28:41a huge part
28:43of Brentford's
28:44armoury
28:44last season
28:46and they
28:47almost
28:49brought them
28:50their first goal
28:50of this new
28:51campaign there.
28:57Gibbs-White
28:57Hudson-Odoi
28:59has opened up
29:00for him
29:00to hit!
29:03Kelleher
29:04right behind it
29:04scored five
29:06last season
29:06in Callum
29:06Hudson-Odoi
29:07couple of
29:08very important
29:09goals too
29:09in the
29:10famous win
29:11at Anfield
29:11and also
29:12the only goal
29:13of their
29:13victory here
29:14against
29:15Manchester
29:15City.
29:17Anderson
29:17pings it out
29:18for Williams
29:19Hudson-Odoi
29:20to his left.
29:23He's away
29:24from Coyote.
29:26Oh
29:27what a goal
29:27that would have
29:28been!
29:28Gibbs-White
29:28spectacular
29:30overhead effort
29:32from
29:34Forest Talisman
29:35that just
29:36just
29:37clears the
29:37crossbar.
29:44Collins for
29:45Coyote.
29:50Carvalho
29:50not have much
29:52change out of
29:53Niko Williams
29:53all day
29:54and he's unable
29:55to get the
29:56better in there
29:57either.
30:01It's already
30:02demonstrated that
30:03he can hurl this
30:04football a long
30:05way,
30:06Michael Coyote.
30:09This time it's
30:10Collins who heads
30:11goalwards.
30:11took a flick
30:13took a flick
30:13off
30:15of Forest's head
30:16and it
30:17was going to be
30:18a corner.
30:19in by Carvalho.
30:24Right the way
30:25across,
30:25Scharder got a
30:26touch.
30:28Peels for
30:28handball and
30:29Brentford get a
30:29penalty.
30:31Well,
30:32Peter Banks
30:32emphatic with
30:35his call there
30:36got himself in a
30:37very, very good
30:38position and
30:39had no doubt
30:40at all
30:40that he saw
30:43the hand there
30:44quite clearly
30:45of Ibrahim
30:46Sangare.
30:48Igor Thiago
30:49now the chance
30:50to score
30:51his first
30:52ever
30:52Premier League
30:53goal.
30:54Matt Sells
30:54takes some
30:55beating though
30:56but he has
30:57been beaten
30:57here.
30:59Igor Thiago
31:00can celebrate.
31:04What an
31:04emphatic start
31:05to the new
31:06campaign for
31:07Nuno Espirito
31:08Santo and
31:08Nottingham
31:09Forest.
31:10Forest three
31:11Brentford one.
31:15Very pleased
31:16the way we
31:16started the
31:17game.
31:17The football
31:18that we
31:18played,
31:19the goals
31:19that we
31:19achieved,
31:20the composure,
31:21the solid
31:22defence,
31:23didn't allow
31:23too many
31:24things to
31:24Brentford.
31:24It was
31:24very good
31:25first off.
31:26We want
31:26to continue
31:26to do what
31:27we did
31:27last season
31:27and if
31:28not go
31:28better.
31:29We know
31:29we've got a
31:30European
31:30campaign that
31:31we're going
31:31to have to
31:31juggle at
31:31the same
31:32time so it's
31:32not going
31:32to be easy
31:33but we want
31:34to continue
31:34to strive
31:35and continue
31:35to get
31:35better as
31:36the club
31:36show.
31:37It was
31:37always going
31:38to be a
31:38difficult
31:38game for
31:39sure.
31:40I think
31:40we made
31:40it even
31:40more
31:41difficult
31:41for
31:41ourselves.
31:42The set
31:42piece was
31:43always going
31:43to be a
31:43threat in
31:44terms of
31:44what they
31:44do,
31:45first goal.
31:46Our
31:46structure to
31:47control that I
31:48just felt was
31:49lacking in the
31:50first half but
31:51ultimately in the
31:52first half we
31:52didn't perform.
31:54Did we see
31:54again today Nuno
31:55the importance of
31:57keeping Morgan
31:58Gibbs-White here
31:59over the
31:59summer?
32:00Yeah, it was
32:00very important
32:01for us.
32:02He's a key
32:02player and it's
32:04only the beginning
32:04of the season.
32:05I think he has
32:05much more to
32:07show.
32:08Yeah, they've
32:08spent over 100
32:09million strengthening
32:09their squad.
32:10Obviously, they're
32:10going to have to
32:11be competing over
32:12a lot of fronts
32:13with Europe in
32:14mind but it's
32:14actually a player
32:15they're persuaded
32:16to stay who
32:17stole the show,
32:18Danny.
32:19If you love
32:20football, you can
32:21only enjoy watching
32:22that performance
32:23today.
32:24It was absolutely
32:26sensational and he
32:28looks happy,
32:29creative.
32:31There's so much
32:32about him to
32:33like.
32:34He could have
32:35been out the
32:36door.
32:36He more or less
32:36was but Forrest
32:38fans, if they
32:41loved him before
32:42they'd love him
32:42even more now.
32:43He's a leader.
32:45He's demanding
32:45the ball.
32:47He pops up all
32:47over the place.
32:48He had a lovely
32:48role today in that
32:5010 role.
32:51I've seen him
32:52play last season
32:52in central midfield,
32:53play wide,
32:54play as a 10.
32:55Intelligent
32:56footballers, they
32:57can play anywhere
32:58and he just keeps
32:59getting on the
32:59ball, dictating.
33:00He's got pictures,
33:01he knows where
33:02everybody is around
33:03him, he looks
33:04fit, quick.
33:06Obviously he's
33:07content now because
33:08the speculation's
33:09ended and there's no
33:10way he's leaving.
33:11He can look forward
33:12as the players
33:13around him to a
33:14good season playing
33:15in Europe and
33:15playing like this.
33:16There was chat
33:17about them not
33:18being quite ready
33:19and Nuno talking
33:20about it in the
33:20week.
33:21This performance
33:22was electric.
33:23They were all at
33:24it, with and
33:25without the ball.
33:26The more confident
33:28he got as the game
33:29went on, the more
33:30he was getting on
33:31the ball and
33:31dictating things.
33:34He's probably
33:34watching now
33:35actually because
33:35why wouldn't you
33:36when you know
33:36you've played so
33:37well?
33:37He probably knew
33:38he was going to
33:39be getting a run.
33:40The other thing
33:40that I like about
33:41him as well,
33:42which is, and
33:42Joe and I were
33:43talking about it,
33:44is he's not one
33:45of those players
33:46who always comes
33:47to feet.
33:47He's happy to run
33:48him behind for
33:49his team and do
33:50the hard yards as
33:51well.
33:51And for such a
33:52creative player,
33:53very, very good
33:54defensively and I'm
33:55sure Thomas Sucal
33:56will be keeping
33:56an eye on him.
33:57Now that, with his
33:58so-called weaker
33:59foot,
33:59he's a beautiful
34:00assist.
34:02And second half,
34:03as I said, talk
34:03about enjoying
34:04your football,
34:05just relaxing,
34:06moving constantly
34:07on the move,
34:08hard to pick up,
34:09great feet.
34:11Must be a pleasure
34:12to play with.
34:13The more players
34:14you've got like
34:14that, and this
34:14would have been
34:15the icing on the
34:15cake.
34:16Look at this
34:16for an effort.
34:17That really would
34:18have been what
34:19he deserved for
34:20his performance.
34:20There was other
34:20good performances,
34:21don't get me wrong.
34:22You know, Elliot
34:22Anderson was terrific
34:23and there's the,
34:24I think the passes
34:25in final third,
34:2631 is a high number.
34:28That's a really
34:29good thing because
34:30it shows how
34:31creative and
34:32positive he's
34:32trying to be.
34:33Yeah, it was such
34:34a high energy
34:36performance with so
34:37much quality.
34:38And like you said,
34:38Danny, he's got that
34:39speculation out of the
34:40way now.
34:40There's no doubt that
34:41he was in conversation
34:42and stuff was happening.
34:43Forest stood strong,
34:44they made him feel
34:45valued and he's put on
34:46an absolute show today.
34:48Playing gets to
34:48Brentford's side who
34:49last season got a
34:512-0 victory at the
34:52City ground, but they
34:52are a very different
34:53side now, both in
34:55terms of the leadership
34:56off the pitch and
34:56the players on the
34:57pitch.
34:57In fact, that was the
34:58youngest side on average
34:59that they've ever
35:00fielded in the Premier
35:01League.
35:02Many big names have
35:03gone and, you know,
35:05there's a period of
35:05transition clearly here
35:06for Keith Andrews to
35:07deal with.
35:08There are mitigating
35:10circumstances for the
35:11performance, but they
35:12got run all over in the
35:13first half.
35:13They were passive and
35:14that's not acceptable
35:15whether you're young or
35:16old, but they are
35:17missing experience.
35:18Norgard going,
35:19captain, good player,
35:20commander in the middle
35:21of the pitch, obviously
35:22the forward players who've
35:23left.
35:23I'm sure they'll bring
35:24one or two more in
35:25before the window
35:26closes.
35:26They've got to.
35:27And I wouldn't be
35:28surprised to see Jordan
35:29Henderson in that team
35:31very soon, just to give
35:32them a bit of guidance.
35:33Came off the bench
35:34today, of course.
35:34And you look at where
35:36their players have gone
35:37to, of course, and it's
35:38testament, isn't it, to
35:39their brilliant recruitment
35:40that they've gone to
35:41Manchester United,
35:42Arsenal and Bayer
35:42Leverkusen and
35:43obviously released Ben
35:45Meade, the likes of
35:45Ben Meade gone as well.
35:46He's a big miss.
35:47So, you know, they are
35:49going to take time.
35:50Yeah, they're definitely
35:51going to take time.
35:51I mean, it's a shame
35:52because under Thomas
35:53Frank, they've really
35:54established themselves as
35:55a Premier League team.
35:56A really tough
35:57opposition.
35:57I think if you listen
35:58to any manager who was
35:59about to play Brentford
36:00over the last couple of
36:01years, they said, look,
36:02we've got a really tough
36:03task coming up.
36:04But Danny talked about
36:05in the first half, the
36:06physicality not quite being
36:07there, but they've just
36:07got to find their
36:08identity again.
36:09And Keith Andrews has
36:09got a tough job, but I'm
36:11sure he'll be capable.
36:12OK, to Stamford Bridge
36:14next, Chelsea on the
36:15back of their Club World
36:17Cup success over the
36:18summer against last
36:18season's FA Cup winners
36:20Crystal Palace.
36:21Mark Scott is your
36:22commentator.
36:22While Chelsea are still
36:25basking in the glory of
36:27their triumphant road
36:28trip in the States, the
36:30state of things and
36:30Palace seems a bit
36:31uncertain.
36:32Just three months on from
36:34winning their first ever
36:35major trophy, with star
36:37names linked with moves
36:38away and barely any
36:39incomings.
36:41In contrast, Chelsea have
36:42dropped another couple of
36:43hundred million over the
36:44summer.
36:44Jamie Gittins and
36:45Chau Petro get their
36:46league debuts for the
36:47club, while fellow new
36:49boys De Lax, Devao,
36:50Esugo and Hato begin on
36:51the bench.
36:52Despite noise in the
36:53media suggesting a
36:54better Eza wouldn't
36:55feature due to interest
36:57from Spurs, he starts, as
36:59does another on someone's
37:00shopping list in Palace
37:02captain Mark Gay.
37:06Both meetings last
37:08season ended in draws
37:09prior to that, Chelsea had
37:12won 14 games in a row
37:14against Palace.
37:16Here is Gittins, first
37:17chance for him to stretch
37:18his legs.
37:21So, Rhys James with this
37:26first corner of the game
37:28for Chelsea.
37:30James into a good area and
37:31flicked on by Kukurea and
37:33it had to be dealt with by
37:34Ismaila Sarr at the far
37:35stick.
37:37Might not have been going in
37:39but Ismaila Sarr wasn't
37:42too short.
37:42Ito could bend, Kukurea's
37:47flick on, and over goes
37:50Zenzo Fernandez, looked a bit
37:51theatrical to me, very quickly
37:54checked and cleared this,
37:55normal football contact was the
37:57view from the video assistant
37:59referee James Bell.
38:00Chalamuala.
38:07Oh, that's really bad.
38:09Ibera Eza.
38:11Sarr.
38:13Munoz wants it.
38:16First time ball in from the
38:17Colombian.
38:18It's tricky.
38:19As his control just let him
38:20down.
38:21He's got it back though.
38:22Lovely stunt from Eza.
38:25Hughes.
38:26Mateta.
38:27Not quite.
38:29But it's brought back for the
38:31earlier challenge on Will
38:33Hughes, right in the D.
38:37Kukurea had a swipe at the
38:38ball but just caught Will
38:39Hughes.
38:42And we know who's taking
38:44this, it's only Ibera Eza
38:45that is in position.
38:49Slap bang central.
38:51Not many gaps here for Eza
38:53to try and get through.
38:55But he has done!
38:55And an absolute rocket from
38:59Ibera Eza to put Crystal
39:02Palace in front.
39:05But it might not count.
39:10Darren England going across to
39:12have a glance at this because
39:14Mark Gay made a move into the
39:18Chelsea wall.
39:18And the goal is struck off.
39:23Away number six is less than one
39:25metre into the wall as the shot
39:27is taken.
39:28Therefore it's an indirect free
39:29kick and a disallowed goal.
39:33So just to tidy up what happened,
39:35the reason the goal has been
39:37struck off is because Mark Gay was
39:39less than one metre away from the
39:41wall as Eza took the shot.
39:43to Lacroix.
39:51Wharton, nice roll, decent pass,
39:53gets it back from Saar as well.
39:55Mitchell's up there, it's
39:56Jean-Philippe Mateta!
39:58Good block from Sanchez.
40:01Wharton the architect here, quick give
40:02and go between him and Saar.
40:05Too close to Sanchez.
40:11Caicedo.
40:14Neto.
40:17Neto's ball in.
40:19Goes all the way across.
40:22Gittens.
40:25Looking for the angle for a pop at goal.
40:27Deflected, dangerous!
40:28And it should really have resulted
40:31in the Chelsea opener.
40:33Courtesy of Trevor Chalabar.
40:36Chalabar from close range,
40:38skided over the top.
40:46Richards with the long throw.
40:47Sanchez coming a long way.
40:50And Eza back across goal.
40:53Eza again.
40:55Munoz!
40:56Mark Gay
40:59has gone down here.
41:02Was there a punch in the head
41:03from Sanchez on him?
41:05Well, the check's complete.
41:06Nothing in it.
41:09Chelsea have absolutely
41:10dominated possession so far,
41:12but Dean Henderson
41:14in the Palace goal
41:15hasn't really had anything to do.
41:17Neto.
41:18Good ball, Palmer.
41:21Olenek's going to come here
41:22for Stavall!
41:22Stavall!
41:26Just for a moment,
41:31you thought it might be written
41:33in the stars
41:33that the 18-year-old
41:35scored
41:36on his Premier League debut.
41:38Eza.
41:45Useful area here.
41:46He's got Mitchell in support.
41:47He's gone for goal
41:48and stung the palms
41:49of Sanchez.
41:51Sluggish this from Chelsea.
41:52Look at the room
41:53for Ibera Eza.
41:54Advancing towards
41:55the edge of the box
41:56and then powering that one
41:57just too close
41:58to the keeper.
41:59Oliver Glasner says
42:02by Monday night
42:02the disappointment
42:03about Kass not overturning
42:05Palace's demotion
42:06to the Conference League
42:07was gone.
42:08They face
42:09Norwegian side
42:10Frederik Saad
42:11in the playoff round
42:12with the first leg
42:13on Thursday.
42:15Andre Santos.
42:16And Kwavert
42:19starting on it.
42:19Not quite enough.
42:20De Lapp!
42:23Straight at Dean Henderson.
42:25And that might be
42:26Chelsea's last chance
42:28and one of their
42:28very few chances
42:29to win this match.
42:30Action pop.
42:41Up to De Lapp.
42:43He's laid it off
42:43for Kukurea.
42:44Here's the chance
42:45and Andre Santos
42:47can't take it.
42:51Best opening
42:52his side of
42:53Carved Out
42:53all afternoon
42:54and it's a horror strike
42:57from Andre Santos.
43:00Tough game.
43:02We expected
43:02a tough game.
43:03We try our best.
43:05We create chances.
43:06Always we can do better.
43:08Even if
43:08when you win
43:09you can do many things better.
43:11I think we could attack better.
43:12We could defend
43:13in some moments better.
43:15But
43:15it's
43:17the first game
43:18of the season.
43:19Honestly
43:19over the
43:19almost 100 minutes
43:21I think
43:21the draw is
43:22okay for both teams.
43:24Yes, we scored a goal
43:24that was disallowed
43:25and we had a few chances
43:27but honestly
43:27Chelsea had
43:282-3 as well.
43:29but overall
43:31I think we deserve
43:31this point.
43:32Were you aware
43:33of the rule
43:34that led to that free kick
43:35being disallowed
43:36for Palace?
43:36You knew about it.
43:37So did you expect
43:38it to be disallowed
43:39when it went in?
43:41When they scored
43:42at the Incidad
43:43when I reviewed
43:43I saw that
43:44it was a fault.
43:46Maybe the rule
43:47is you have to be
43:48one yard away
43:48when we move
43:49too early
43:50then you can disallow it
43:52but I think
43:52you have to be careful
43:53because then
43:54many free kicks
43:55will be disallowed.
43:56Ebb scored that free kick
43:57there was a lot of noise
43:57about him coming
43:58into this game
43:59he's not been distracted
44:00did you have any doubt
44:01in your mind
44:02about picking him today?
44:03Not at all.
44:04I think Ebb and Mark
44:05there was a lot of noise
44:05about these two players
44:07in the last weeks
44:07and everybody could see
44:09the performance today
44:10and they are 100%
44:11aligned with this group
44:12of players
44:13with this team
44:13and with Crystal Palace
44:14and spoke to them
44:16almost daily
44:18so maybe more than
44:20with my kids
44:21and my wife
44:21in the last couple of days
44:22but it was worth
44:24to talk to them
44:24and we will continue
44:25and they didn't just show
44:28that they are
44:29great football players
44:30they are just showing
44:31that they are great persons
44:33and this is what
44:34I really appreciate.
44:35Well the last time
44:36Chelsea started a campaign
44:38in the Premier League
44:39with a goal of straws
44:402011
44:40they went on
44:41and won the Champions League
44:42that season
44:42so that's something
44:43to take away from today.
44:44Now we nearly had
44:45the big match of the day
44:47bust up in the studio
44:48tonight
44:49because there was
44:49major disagreement
44:50about that free kick
44:52as is free kick
44:53and the goal being disallowed
44:55for about two minutes
44:56until we worked out
44:57why it was disallowed.
44:58Yeah and I'm sure
44:59there was in the stadium
45:00there was people
45:01watching at home.
45:02Originally we thought
45:03the Gehi versus Caicedo
45:05battle was key
45:06in this situation
45:07but what turns out
45:08there needs to be
45:08a one metre gap
45:09with a four man wall.
45:11Gehi harsh with Caicedo
45:14me and Danny disagreed
45:15whether it was a foul
45:15or whether it wasn't
45:16but the fact is
45:18that Gehi moved him
45:19within one metre
45:20of the wall
45:21so as soon as he does this
45:23as soon as he moves him here
45:24close to that four man wall
45:25the goal has to be ruled out.
45:27Robert Sanchez
45:28will be breathing a sigh of relief.
45:30Gehi was as confused
45:30as we were
45:31but the referee
45:32very clear.
45:32And it is indeed
45:34law 13
45:35it's been around
45:36since 2019
45:38where three or more
45:40defending team players
45:40form a wall
45:41and attacking team player
45:43must at least remain
45:44a metre
45:44or a yard
45:45from the wall
45:46until the ball
45:47is in play.
45:48Well do you know what
45:49I have to credit Va
45:50I'm the first to jump on him
45:51if they do something wrong
45:52but that is
45:53so sharp
45:54that he was on it
45:54so quickly
45:55because none of us
45:56knew in the studio
45:57and thank God
45:58it came out quickly
45:59because I thought
46:00I was going to be laid out.
46:02I was worried for you.
46:04And of course
46:05poor Eze
46:06be thinking
46:06lightning does indeed
46:07strike twice
46:08because the opening day
46:09last season
46:10an even better
46:12free kick Danny.
46:13Well when you take
46:13free kicks
46:14you know how desperately
46:15sad it would be
46:16to have that
46:17brilliant free kick
46:18disallowed
46:19but
46:19That was pushing
46:20on the line.
46:21That was pushing
46:22in the box
46:22the referee blew the whistle
46:23before the ball
46:24hit the net
46:24which is just
46:25and then to happen again
46:27on the opening day
46:28next season
46:28he might as well
46:29not play next season.
46:30Where will he be next season?
46:31We'll get on to that
46:32in just a moment
46:33but a feature of their
46:34success last season
46:35Crystal Palace
46:36was the solidity
46:37of their defence
46:38and that was on display
46:39again today.
46:40Oh yeah
46:40the togetherness at the back
46:41well if we're going to go
46:42through their last
46:43three fixtures
46:44Man City in the FA Cup final
46:46Liverpool in the Community Shield
46:47and today at the World
46:48Champions Chelsea
46:49this back three
46:51along with Henderson
46:52along with the full backs
46:54look Richards is not even
46:55on the field here
46:56but Oliver Glasner's
46:56got them so well marshalled
46:58the communications there
46:59Mitchell slots in
47:00Chelsea constantly
47:01trying to probe the lines
47:03they've got really
47:03technical players
47:04and the closer they get
47:06to goal
47:06the more that Palace
47:07bunch up
47:08constantly trying to get
47:10a 2v1
47:11if they possibly can
47:12that's how they want
47:13Chelsea playing
47:13they want them crossing
47:14aimlessly into the box
47:16Richards
47:16Gehi
47:17Lacroix
47:18they're going to gobble
47:19that all day
47:20this is the 2v1 situation
47:21we talked about
47:22can they push them back
47:24can they push them back
47:25Chelsea are a good team
47:26they manage to move it
47:27around the box
47:28but when they run out of ideas
47:29gain bread and butter
47:31even the
47:32Mateta
47:33I had to highlight him
47:34I think he was excellent
47:35you know
47:35he holds the ball up
47:36but when it comes to
47:37the defensive point of view
47:38it's an 11 man job
47:39different ways of Chelsea
47:41playing
47:42they've proven that
47:42you know
47:43bringing De Lapp in
47:44with that little bit of presence
47:45Lacroix
47:46gets comfortable
47:47gets up against him
47:48his mates get round him
47:49and deal with the situation
47:50and snuff out
47:51another difficult opportunity
47:53this is late in the game
47:54this is again
47:55doubling up
47:562v1
47:56can they push Chelsea back
47:58Stamford Bridge expecting
47:59they're expecting a win today
48:00late on
48:01can they get 2v1 again
48:03yes they can
48:04Gehi
48:04this is last ball
48:06into the box
48:06you hear the whistle going
48:08Palace boys have worked
48:09so so hard
48:10they're out on their feet
48:11but it's job done
48:12a great point
48:13and since Glasner was appointed
48:15look at the company
48:16they're keeping there
48:17in terms of
48:17clean sheets
48:18they're third
48:19joint third on 17
48:20behind Arsenal and Manchester City
48:22Danny
48:22it's been
48:24it's been
48:24tremendous
48:25considering how poorly
48:27they started last season
48:28and then to
48:28to get so established
48:30and comfortable in a system
48:32because we talk a lot
48:32about tactics
48:33but he has nailed it
48:34the players are comfortable
48:35with it
48:36they've just got the team
48:37settled
48:37and then unfortunately
48:38for Palace fans
48:39it looks like that might be
48:40assembled
48:41Eze and Gehi of course
48:43both mooted to be
48:45very close to moving on
48:46and some of the emotions
48:47that were coming out
48:48today would say
48:49perhaps this is imminent
48:50Eze there
48:51applauding and looking
48:53like this was
48:54potentially a goodbye
48:55Joe do you see
48:55that emotion there
48:56oh I hate to speculate
48:58I really do
48:59but there's a lot of
49:00smoke isn't there
49:01a lot of smoke
49:02around these names
49:03Oliver Glasner
49:04was very strong there
49:05saying that he believes
49:06that the team
49:06were fully committed
49:07and they couldn't
49:07play like that
49:08but these sorts of things
49:10when you're coming
49:10to your fans
49:11and letting them know
49:11how much you appreciate
49:13them with this on the line
49:14it does send a message
49:15Palace have got
49:16sorry
49:16Palace have got
49:17wonderful recruitment team
49:18they've always replaced
49:22players quickly
49:22very very well
49:24I know Doug E Friedman's
49:25left now
49:25but he was a big part
49:26of that
49:26but they've still got
49:27a good team there
49:28any club
49:30who gets the services
49:31of one of those two
49:32is going to be
49:33pleased
49:34because they're two
49:35terrific players
49:36both huge
49:38huge influences
49:39at Crystal Palace
49:40but it's unfortunately
49:42the way football is
49:44now
49:44the smaller clubs
49:45who do well
49:45the big boys come in
49:47and they take their best away
49:48and of course
49:49the problem with Gehi
49:49as well
49:50is that
49:51he's only got a year
49:52left on his contract
49:53so they're in a
49:54really difficult one
49:55with that
49:55so maybe he'll be wearing
49:57the same colour
49:58as your dress
49:58Glasner said
50:02on Sky
50:03that
50:03on Eze
50:04he said
50:05he'll come to training
50:06he'll have Tuesday off
50:08and then on Wednesday
50:09we will be taking him
50:10to play
50:10against Frederikstad
50:12of course
50:12the Norwegian side
50:13they're playing
50:13in the qualifying
50:15on Thursday
50:15they both seem like
50:17good lads
50:17I don't envisage a problem
50:18I say they seem
50:19excellent pros
50:20nothing but positive
50:22things to say about them
50:23but business is business
50:24they can play on Thursday
50:25actually
50:25and then not be tied
50:26in other European competitions
50:28should they go somewhere
50:28that wears red
50:29that plays perhaps
50:30in a different European competition
50:31on Chelsea
50:33they have spent
50:34a lot of money
50:35as they always do
50:35bolstering their attack
50:37and they had some
50:38stats that were really
50:39interesting today
50:40in terms of their XG
50:41highest XG
50:41they've ever had
50:42not scored
50:43I mentioned at the beginning
50:44you have to go back
50:45it's 2011
50:45with them to have
50:46a goalless match
50:47as the opening
50:48one of the season
50:48should they be
50:49a little bit worried
50:50about their attack
50:50or is this fatigue
50:51from being world champions
50:53as Joe rightly
50:54I think part of it
50:55is they've only
50:56just got back
50:57they've had a little
50:57break after the tournament
50:59which means
51:00they're probably
51:00not quite into rhythm
51:02and what we talked
51:03about before
51:04with Jokka
51:04is new players
51:05at Chelsea
51:06need a bit of time
51:07to adapt
51:07to the surroundings
51:08and the player
51:09relationships
51:09I talked about
51:10it's one game
51:11it's the opening day
51:12of the season
51:12they've got an abundance
51:13of talent
51:14and I'm sure
51:15within a couple of weeks
51:15they'll be scoring
51:16plenty of goals
51:17and they made chances
51:18yeah they did
51:19they just looked
51:20a little bit frustrated
51:20towards the end
51:21you know
51:22they've come off the back
51:23of a huge high
51:24towards the end
51:25of the season
51:25but everything
51:27seems quite settled
51:28which is quite unique
51:29for Chelsea
51:29in previous starts
51:30to the season
51:31there's been a lot
51:31of talk about
51:32the money they've spent
51:32they've finally got
51:33themselves in a position
51:34where they can have
51:35a good foundation
51:36I'm sure they'll build on it
51:37and we saw didn't we
51:38PSG who of course
51:39were also playing
51:41in the Club World Cup
51:41not looking themselves
51:43in the Super Cup
51:43so you know
51:44maybe just take a few weeks
51:45yeah
51:46okay
51:47well if you've missed
51:48any of the action

52:26still bouncing
52:27do join us
52:28for that one
52:29okay
52:29let's catch up
52:30on what's happened
52:31in the rest
52:32of the opening weekend
52:32Liverpool
52:36get their
52:37title defence
52:38under way
52:39and he scores
52:40the first
52:41and field goal
52:43for Igor
52:43Ekechike
52:45looking for room
52:46and still
52:47and finding some
52:48Semenya's in the middle
52:51and has scored
52:52he's got to go left
52:55surely
52:55he goes alone
52:56and scores brilliantly
52:57it's 2-2
52:59a bit of a mess
53:01and in
53:01from Chiesa
53:03Salah
53:05and that will do it
53:07Liverpool
53:08start with
53:10a win
53:10Anthony Alanga
53:12with an
53:12epitome goal
53:13the narrative
53:14is going to be
53:15that Newcastle
53:16lack of goal scorer
53:16now Esri
53:18he's going to be
53:20sent off
53:20he's gone
53:21Virginia
53:23Ruta
53:23down
53:24right
53:25we've got a penalty
53:26it's Brighton's
53:28first goal
53:29of the new season
53:30far post
53:321-1
53:32a point apiece
53:34victory slips
53:36through Brighton's
53:37hands
53:37Sunderland
53:38are ready to go
53:40down for the corner
53:41and it's in
53:41have a listen
53:44under that
53:45that's pretty handy
53:48that's 2-0
53:49that's Ballard
53:52this is all
53:54what a smile
53:57Sunderland
53:58this was Charleston
53:59half a chance
54:00Sunderland
54:01it's a brilliant effort
54:04takes it wide
54:06prods it in
54:07Spurs have a third
54:08game seven match
54:10trying to feed
54:14Rico Lewis
54:16Haarlem waiting
54:17unearling
54:18Haarlem scoring
54:20can he get there
54:20he can
54:21and he can finish
54:22beautifully
54:22a debut goal
54:25for the Dutchman
54:25in City Blue
54:26emphatic
54:29Turkey
54:32oh
54:33it's a debut goal
54:34for him as well
54:35it seems
54:38it would be remiss
54:39to have you here
54:40and not ask you
54:40about James Trafford
54:41and his development
54:43we knew last season
54:44at Burnley
54:44that he was turning
54:45into a really special
54:47goalkeeper
54:47and obviously
54:48his stats last season
54:49were incredible
54:50but obviously
54:51now with City
54:52give us a little
54:53take on what you've
54:54made of his progress
54:55yeah look
54:56firstly I'm really
54:57pleased for him
54:57I know him loosely
54:59he's a goalkeeper
55:00and obviously
55:00he was a Manchester City
55:02goalkeeper when I was there
55:03lovely kid
55:04and he's got such
55:05a hunger for it
55:06and what I love
55:07about his career
55:07is he decided
55:08to make that move
55:09to Burnley
55:09it was a big money
55:10move for a 20 year old
55:11and he went
55:13and it was a difficult
55:14season to go
55:15into Burnley
55:15you know
55:16Vinnie Company
55:16trying to play out
55:17different system
55:18they were in that
55:19bottom three
55:19the whole season
55:20but he kept strong
55:21he kept brave
55:22could have gone
55:24somewhere else
55:24didn't stay
55:25and I just think
55:26he's just developed
55:27so much physically
55:27physically and mentally
55:29he's developed
55:30and last season
55:30we just had those
55:31stats on before
55:32incredible stats
55:33fully deserves
55:34he had a buyback
55:35clause
55:35and Manchester City
55:36knew
55:37they knew
55:37what he was
55:38capable of
55:38they knew
55:38what his
55:39potential was
55:39they borrowed
55:40him out to
55:41Burnley
55:41they bought
55:41him out
55:42for a decent
55:42price
55:42and it only
55:43makes them
55:44stronger
55:44is he for you
55:46well suited
55:46now to City
55:47is he going to
55:48be their number
55:48one this season
55:49I think that's a
55:50great question
55:50it's a really
55:51strange kind of
55:52scenario at the
55:52moment
55:53but he's come in
55:53and one thing I
55:54know that he
55:55will go in there
55:56and he will believe
55:56and he will act
55:57like he's the
55:57number one
55:58I think they will
55:59whoever's the
55:59other goalkeeper
56:00I think they will
56:01share games
56:02I think they're in
56:02that unique position
56:03where they're probably
56:04going to plan for
56:0460 games in a
56:05season and they're
56:06going to be able to
56:06share it through the
56:07Cups and in the
56:08Premier League but
56:09they're definitely
56:09going to have two
56:09goalkeepers they
56:10believe in and he'll
56:11be one of them
56:11you're sitting down
56:12for a cup of tea
56:12with Pep on Friday
56:13aren't you
56:13question number one
56:15isn't it
56:15exactly well no
56:16I've got another
56:17question before
56:17Danny of course
56:21one more game to
56:22go this weekend
56:23Leeds United back in
56:25the Premier League up
56:25against Everton who
56:27have in their
56:29line-up Jack
56:30Grealish which is
56:31obviously for
56:32Grealish a great
56:33opportunity to try
56:34and kind of invoke
56:35some of the stats
56:36that we saw from
56:37his career about
56:37two or three years
56:38ago which seemed
56:38to have just waned
56:39a bit in the last
56:40couple of seasons
56:40yeah it's a fresh
56:41challenge for him I
56:42think it's a good
56:43move he'll be the
56:44main man he'll
56:45probably play
56:45centrally you know
56:47that Moyes he'll
56:48set up players behind
56:49him to protect him
56:50and let him go and
56:50show his creative
56:51side I think it's a
56:52good match-up for
56:53you Moyes and
56:54Grealish yeah well
56:55we've seen look
56:55Moyes he brought
56:56players like Kudos
56:57into West Ham who's
56:58you know a flair
56:59player he did wonders
57:00with Lingard when he
57:01took him to West Ham
57:02on loan so there's
57:03no reason why it
57:04can't work I mean I
57:05think a lot of it's
57:06going to be down to
57:06Jack's hunger and
57:07desire which seems
57:08there the appetite
57:09he wants to be in the
57:10World Cup squad and
57:11he's a terrific player
57:12and the other
57:13advantage is the fact
57:14that when teams play
57:15Everton it's not going
57:16to be like when you
57:16play for Man City
57:17packed defences he's
57:19going to be in a
57:20game where teams are
57:21there's going to be
57:22space yeah and he's a
57:23dribbler and he makes
57:24things happen I'm
57:24excited for him I think
57:25it could be a really
57:26good move
57:26you played under
57:27Moyes yeah I did
57:28you know Moyes he makes
57:30it very clear you have
57:31to work hard on your
57:31team and you're going
57:32to have a very
57:32regimented the way I
57:34look at him though the
57:35way he did it especially
57:36when I was at West Ham
57:36we kind of had nine
57:38players particularly
57:39needed working hard and
57:40sticking to it but he
57:41allowed the room for the
57:42Anatovic the Jack
57:44Grealish in your team to
57:45play with freedom and
57:46flow and run the show
57:47and I feel like it's
57:48going to be I'm really
57:49excited to see how it
57:49plays out
57:50the other thing with
57:50Jack quickly as well is
57:51that the year when he
57:52had his best season when
57:53they won the treble his
57:53defensive work was great
57:54yeah it's not like he's
57:56unreliable in that
57:57respect he's not a
57:58selfish player at all so
57:59you can definitely get
58:00the full the full package
58:01from him if he's the
58:02main man yeah it'd be
58:03great to see that joy
58:04back of him kind of
58:06running through
58:06defensive with the ball
58:07at his feet wouldn't
58:08it and of course good
58:09luck to Leeds as well
58:10back in the Premier
58:10League thank you very
58:11much guys let's have a
58:12little look shall we at
58:13the table very early
58:15days I know but
58:17Nottingham Forest
58:17win takes them up to
58:19fifth in this embryonic
58:20Premier League table with
58:21Arsenal six Manchester
58:23United are 15th for
58:24now the same
58:24position they ended
58:25last season with
58:26Brentford two places
58:27below them so thank
58:29you very much to Danny
58:30and to Joe one nil to
58:32the Arsenal sounds
58:33familiar business as
58:34usual around here
58:35weekend one done good
