00:00:00What a treat!
00:00:02Oh, look at that!
00:00:04Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:06Rudy!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30It's been a dramatic day in the Premier League on and off the pitch.
00:00:55Seven games on the way, much to discuss.
00:00:58Danny Murphy has been joined by Dion, who completes a hat-trick of shows today
00:01:02after Football Focus and final score.
00:01:04So today, he's not doubling, he's tripling.
00:01:08We're going to begin with Liverpool leads.
00:01:10But there is breaking news tonight on the future of Mohamed Salah.
00:01:13He started on the bench for the third game in a row.
00:01:16And then in a post-match interview, Salah said the club had thrown him under the bus
00:01:20and that he has no relationship with manager Arna Slott.
00:01:24More on that to come. Guy Mowbrie was watching the match at Elland Road.
00:01:28The atmosphere here this season will have taken many Leeds fans back to those heady days at the turn of the century.
00:01:36And it reached a glorious peak for them in Wednesday's 3-1 win over old foes Chelsea.
00:01:42Two changes to the Leeds team from then.
00:01:44With Ilya Gruev back in and replacing Ayo Tanaka, he's on the bench.
00:01:48And with Noah Okafor coming in for Lucas Mecha, ruled out with a hamstring problem.
00:01:53For Liverpool, four changes from their midweek draw at home to Sunderland.
00:01:57Both full-backs have changed.
00:01:59Connor Bradley comes back from injury to start on the right.
00:02:01Milos Kerkhez is back in on the left.
00:02:03In midfield, Curtis Jones is preferred to Alexis McAllister.
00:02:07And up front, the striker's switch.
00:02:09Ugo Eketike's turn to start.
00:02:11Alexander Isak on the bench.
00:02:13Where we also find Mohamed Salah for a third game in a row.
00:02:16It's hard to believe that the famous Viduka match was a quarter of a century ago.
00:02:32Might be something on for Leeds here.
00:02:33There is, and it's not far wide.
00:02:36Okafor with an early opportunity.
00:02:39Set up pretty nicely for Okafor.
00:02:42Just didn't connect as he would have liked to have done.
00:02:45And the pouring West Yorkshire rain.
00:02:48Leeds are up for it once again.
00:02:50Gakpo demanding the ball on the left.
00:02:53It's Jones first, now Cody Gakpo.
00:02:56Jones.
00:02:57Jones going for it!
00:02:59Oh, I thought it was in.
00:03:01It looked as though it was just gonna dip under that crossbar.
00:03:04Or maybe just touch it on its way down and in.
00:03:07Just a fraction away from the opener.
00:03:09What a good opener it would have been.
00:03:11That was a no-nonsense settle, and then some.
00:03:16And it's gonna result in a yellow card for Gabrielle Goodmanson.
00:03:20Proper Leedsby Liverpool tackle, wasn't it though?
00:03:23Coming back to Billy Bremner, Norman Hunter with that one.
00:03:27That's a pass line.
00:03:29Van Dijk over the top.
00:03:30Got in nicely to attack it.
00:03:34There's a collision afterwards.
00:03:37Once Van Dijk had propelled the ball over the crossbar.
00:03:40Last time Liverpool were here in April of 2023, they scored six.
00:03:46Quite poignantly, Diogo Jota played a starring role for Liverpool that day
00:03:50as they ended a run of five games without a win.
00:03:53Jota would have been 29 on Thursday.
00:03:55Oh, that slack.
00:03:56And Eketike's onto the ball, what a chance this is!
00:03:59And he's taken it!
00:04:01Liverpool in front.
00:04:03Leeds caused their own mess.
00:04:05And Eketike stayed calm.
00:04:07And the patience was followed by a moment of precision.
00:04:16A rare error made by Leeds United's Joe Rodon.
00:04:20Misplaced pass.
00:04:22Too quick with it, too casual with it.
00:04:25And then it was over to Eketike.
00:04:27Eketike ends a run of eight appearances without a goal
00:04:31by scoring his seventh as a Liverpool play.
00:04:34And Eketike's off again.
00:04:37Touching the ball ahead of Biol and then flinging himself to the floor.
00:04:40That's how it looked.
00:04:41And Anthony Taylor has a check with Gary Bezik, the assistant.
00:04:44Thinks about giving something.
00:04:48As Liverpool steal possession back very quickly again with Bradley.
00:04:52And Eketike's there, and he's put that one in as well.
00:04:55Just as VAL were about to chip in saying, checking possible penalty.
00:05:01Liverpool go 2-0 up.
00:05:03And Eketike with two quick-fire goals puts Liverpool in complete control at Elland Road.
00:05:10And it looked to me as though Eketike was cleanly there first to poke it in.
00:05:16Lucas Perry was a little flat-footed.
00:05:19He was reaching for it rather than going for it.
00:05:22Well, there was a lot to sort out in that, but the key point seemed to be
00:05:26that Eketike may have been in front of the Leeds defenders, but he was behind the ball.
00:05:34Here's Eketike.
00:05:37So Voslai, Eketike waits for it, and then helps it on to Cody Gakpo, who's in on goal.
00:05:44And he's saved by Lucas Perry.
00:05:46That's a good stretch and a big hand.
00:05:48Three and it's done.
00:05:50So it's a really important bit of goalkeeping.
00:05:53Goodmanson.
00:05:57Goodmanson.
00:06:05Yonto, stack.
00:06:07Willy Yonto once more.
00:06:09Yonto goes down as Canate slides in and Leeds are adamant it should be a penalty.
00:06:15What is it going to be?
00:06:18Anthony Taylor hasn't made any decision yet.
00:06:21VAR are saying they're checking it.
00:06:23He looked at first as though it maybe should have been a goal kick if it's not a foul,
00:06:29but then I think there is a touch from Canate at the end.
00:06:32The question is, has he fouled Yonto?
00:06:34That's really the only thing that matters.
00:06:36The word from John Brooks in VAR is that the ball was in play at point of contact.
00:06:42There might be a way back for them.
00:06:46Liverpool five.
00:06:48Makes a careless challenge.
00:06:50But in play therefore my final decision is penalty kick.
00:06:56I've heard goals cheered with less enthusiasm than that.
00:06:59Now it's over to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
00:07:02He has to score this.
00:07:07And Calvert-Lewin does.
00:07:12Leeds half the gap.
00:07:14Calvert-Lewin scores for a third game in a row.
00:07:16And it's 2-1 and game on at Elendrode.
00:07:20Frenzied feel to the occasion now.
00:07:23The wind is with Leeds now.
00:07:32Aronson.
00:07:33Nyonto.
00:07:34Nice combo between the pair.
00:07:38Aronson in now to Stack.
00:07:39Stack in on goal!
00:07:41There is always life in Leeds.
00:07:54Liverpool's lead wiped out almost as quickly as they made it happen.
00:08:00The Premier League champions are crumbling here.
00:08:04Leeds are riding the wave.
00:08:06The wave of sound.
00:08:09It's Leeds 2, Liverpool 2.
00:08:12It's Leeds 2, Liverpool 2.
00:08:14It's a second half that has just erupted.
00:08:19Gravenberg.
00:08:20He's been chopped.
00:08:21It's going to be a Liverpool free kick.
00:08:23That's a good chance.
00:08:24Oh, great save, Lucas Perry.
00:08:25Van Dijk mightily close for 3-2.
00:08:26Tanaka flicks that one away.
00:08:30Lucas Perry's made some big saves.
00:08:31Clawing that one away.
00:08:32Just when it looked as though Van Dijk had got just the right amount of power to beat him.
00:08:37It's going to be a Liverpool free kick.
00:08:39That's a good chance.
00:08:40Oh, great save, Lucas Perry.
00:08:41Van Dijk mightily close for 3-2.
00:08:43Tanaka flicks that one away.
00:08:44Lucas Perry's made some big saves.
00:08:45Clawing that one away.
00:08:46Just when it looked as though Van Dijk had got just the right amount of power to beat him.
00:08:59Here's Gravenberg.
00:09:00Played through and allowed to run through to Sir Bosley.
00:09:01Oh, that's coolly done.
00:09:02Brilliantly finished by Dominic Sir Bosley.
00:09:03That's calmed down the frenzy.
00:09:04The scenes of joy now are from the Liverpool supporters.
00:09:20Sir Bosley has restored order for them.
00:09:24Allowed to run just superbly by McAllister.
00:09:28Must have been instinctive.
00:09:30There's no way he could have heard a shout from Dominic Sir Bosley amidst this atmosphere.
00:09:36But he knew he was there.
00:09:38And Sir Bosley, well he made that look like it was a training ground exercise.
00:09:43He's passed it into the net and Liverpool have a 3-2 advantage.
00:09:47Stack.
00:09:48Nyonto.
00:09:49Another corner courtesy of Kirkes.
00:10:02And it comes from Stack.
00:10:03Alisson stays.
00:10:04Back.
00:10:05And it's Tanaka!
00:10:06Leeds have done it again.
00:10:07Second time they've rescued this game.
00:10:08Second time in a week that he's scored for them.
00:10:10And if this is to be one point, it will feel every bit as big as the three that they've got against Chelsea.
00:10:20Arneslot will not be happy about Liverpool's defending or lack of it from the corner.
00:10:36Tanaka is there to bundle it home.
00:10:40Tight angle.
00:10:41No bother.
00:10:42Look at Arneslot's reaction.
00:10:44That tells the story.
00:10:46Leeds 3, Liverpool 3.
00:10:55It's Arko!
00:10:58So, so close.
00:11:01Lovely cross into him.
00:11:04Just trying to direct it.
00:11:06Needed a bit more on it.
00:11:09When you come to Ellen Road to watch football, you ride a rollercoaster.
00:11:150-0 at halftime.
00:11:173-3 by the finish.
00:11:20For Leeds it will feel like a massive point gained in their quest to remain in the top flight at the end of the season.
00:11:27For Liverpool, once more, it will feel like one that got away.
00:11:32Leeds United 3, Liverpool 3.
00:11:36We know that we are not the side.
00:11:38We have the best individual quality in this league.
00:11:40But our tactical approach always has to be spot on.
00:11:43We have to invest everything.
00:11:45We need the best possible energy with the ball against the ball.
00:11:48And also flexibility to adapt to different scenarios.
00:11:51And the boys can be really, really proud.
00:11:53It seems to go out of control too quickly.
00:11:55How is that allowed to happen?
00:11:57Because we concede goals without the other team even having a chance.
00:12:01And we have to do so much to score.
00:12:05Because I think we had more moments where we could have scored.
00:12:09We can only look at ourselves.
00:12:11Because we are the ones that are doing it.
00:12:13Is it a mental thing collectively with the team right now?
00:12:16Well, it's not easy when you don't win for a long time.
00:12:20Of course, I think in this club we are not used to that.
00:12:24The only way we can get out of here is together.
00:12:26You hit that goal, it makes it 2-2.
00:12:28The whole ground erupts.
00:12:29What does that feel like?
00:12:30For me, completely goosebumps over the whole body.
00:12:34It's amazing.
00:12:35It was my first goal here at Ellen Ronde and it felt unbelievable.
00:12:39I think when you never score the goal you can't imagine how it is.
00:12:45It's been a good week.
00:12:46Day off now?
00:12:47Yes, I definitely need Sunday with coffee and cake on the sofa.
00:12:51So the supporters can enjoy the week and celebrate a bit.
00:12:54Have also perhaps a beer or a pint.
00:12:56I'm looking forward to have a quiet Sunday afternoon on the sofa.
00:13:00That cake is going to taste even sweeter.
00:13:03Watching your side come from behind.
00:13:04What a week it's been for Leeds United.
00:13:07It has been a great week and I thought they were brave today.
00:13:10Second half showed lots of quality.
00:13:12I thought Liverpool actually looked better going forward.
00:13:15They scored three goals away from home.
00:13:17Good on the counter.
00:13:18Got into the lead.
00:13:20But their fragility and their vulnerabilities in the second half were there for us all to see again.
00:13:25Just disastrous really.
00:13:27Bad decision making.
00:13:28Mistakes.
00:13:29We're going to have a look at the goals now.
00:13:32This is the build up to the penalty.
00:13:344v4.
00:13:35No problem.
00:13:36Communicate.
00:13:37Stay with your men.
00:13:38Good talking.
00:13:39No danger.
00:13:40They switch off and they're in.
00:13:42There's an overload.
00:13:43Okay, so.
00:13:44Canate comes across, rightly so.
00:13:47And tries to usher him out of play.
00:13:48He's in the right position.
00:13:49Stay on your feet.
00:13:50Why are you going to ground?
00:13:51Just.
00:13:52Crazy decision.
00:13:53Penalty.
00:13:54All of a sudden.
00:13:55Leeds have.
00:13:56A goal.
00:13:57The fans are up.
00:13:58Momentum shifting and changing.
00:14:00They feel like they're in the game.
00:14:02Unfortunately, again, it's Canate.
00:14:04He seems to be in the middle of all of it in a moment.
00:14:06Stack breaks from midfield.
00:14:08And when it comes into him.
00:14:09He's in a good position there.
00:14:10Canate.
00:14:11Stay there.
00:14:12And if it goes into him.
00:14:13Nice and tight.
00:14:14He drops off.
00:14:15Maybe that's recent events.
00:14:16Getting his head.
00:14:17He wants to protect the goal.
00:14:18Jones spots.
00:14:19I thought Jones was really good today, actually.
00:14:21But he flies in too quick.
00:14:22And here.
00:14:23Nine Liverpool players against five.
00:14:25There's not a lack of willingness to get back in.
00:14:27It's just a lack of communication.
00:14:28It's chaotic and disorganized.
00:14:30I mean, this one is the one that frustrated me, Dan.
00:14:32This is so easily avoided.
00:14:34Gravenberg at the far post.
00:14:37Tanaka's free.
00:14:38But from the next angle, you can see.
00:14:40Gravenberg can clear this one.
00:14:42There we go.
00:14:43Hands behind his back.
00:14:44Just a pause there.
00:14:45Number 38.
00:14:46You can see.
00:14:47All he's got to do is jump up and head the ball away.
00:14:49He just gets Calvert-Lewin.
00:14:51Just in his eye line.
00:14:52Decides to block Calvert-Lewin.
00:14:54Takes his eye off the ball.
00:14:55The ball actually hits his hand.
00:14:56So it could have been a penalty.
00:14:57And Tanaka's there to put it in at the far post.
00:14:59If he had played like he's played for the last two seasons,
00:15:04absolutely outstanding.
00:15:05He declared that.
00:15:06No goal at all.
00:15:07But it was a fantastic performance from Leeds.
00:15:09They won't care that Liverpool have defensive frailties
00:15:11that they were able to exploit.
00:15:13But as you said, it was a decent performance going forward.
00:15:16They've scored three goals in this game.
00:15:18Scored a couple of goals against West Ham last week.
00:15:21Scored one against Sunderland in midweek
00:15:24with Mohamed Salah on the pitch.
00:15:26However, in the aftermath of that game,
00:15:31it says that Mohamed Salah has been talking to Norwegian television
00:15:36and said, I think it's very clear that somebody wants me to take all the blame.
00:15:41I've said a few times before that I have a good relationship with the manager.
00:15:44And now all of a sudden we have no relationship.
00:15:46I don't know why.
00:15:47It seems like the club are throwing me under the bus.
00:15:50That's how I feel.
00:15:51This club, I will always support it.
00:15:53My kids will always support it.
00:15:54I love the club so much and I always will.
00:15:56It, meaning the situation, is not acceptable to me to be fair.
00:16:00I don't get it.
00:16:01It's like I'm being thrown more under the bus.
00:16:04I don't think I'm the problem.
00:16:05I've done so much for this club.
00:16:07I don't have to fight every day for my position because I earn it.
00:16:10I earned my position.
00:16:12There is a lot to unpack in all of that.
00:16:15Starting with the idea, let's maybe go backwards throughout it.
00:16:18The idea that Mohamed Salah doesn't need to earn his place
00:16:21because he's already earned it with the performances that he's put in historically
00:16:24over his time at the club.
00:16:26No, we know that's an emotional response and doesn't really stack up.
00:16:30Everyone has to keep fighting for the place and performing at a certain level.
00:16:33I don't think he's on his own.
00:16:34I think a lot of other big name players are starting to get stick
00:16:37and get, you know, get the fan base turn a little bit against them.
00:16:41Everyone's being judged.
00:16:42Look, I think...
00:16:43His point here is that he's the one who is the scapegoat.
00:16:46It's not true.
00:16:47Yeah.
00:16:48It's not true.
00:16:49I think you can be emotional and you can be angry and frustrated.
00:16:52He's done wonderful things for the football club.
00:16:54You have to keep it in the four walls of the club.
00:16:57Knock on the manager's door.
00:16:58Go and see the CEO, whoever it is.
00:17:00Go and see the owners.
00:17:01Do whatever you've got to do.
00:17:02Express your frustration.
00:17:04By doing what he's done, he's causing now the team a problem
00:17:07and the manager a problem and he's making it all about him.
00:17:10And that's...
00:17:11You just can't do it.
00:17:12Whether you agree with him being left out or not,
00:17:14you don't deal with it like this.
00:17:15Do you think he is being thrown under the bus?
00:17:18Do you think he is being made a scapegoat for the team's failings this season?
00:17:22No, not at all.
00:17:23And I think Danny's right.
00:17:24I just think it's...
00:17:25We shouldn't know about this.
00:17:27We shouldn't even know about this.
00:17:28He should be in those four walls, as Danny said.
00:17:30However, I do believe the Diogo Jota situation has hit that football club incredibly hard
00:17:37and those players without them knowing how hard it's hit them
00:17:41because he was so close to all of them.
00:17:43And I believe it's hit Salah possibly more than most.
00:17:47And that's the situation he probably can't get right mentally.
00:17:50That said, as a Liverpool player, it doesn't matter who you are,
00:17:55you've got to earn the right to play in the first eleven.
00:17:58Inter Milan on Tuesday, Brighton at the weekend.
00:18:00He's told his family to come to the Brighton game
00:18:03because he said he wants to say goodbye,
00:18:05then added before he goes off to the Cup of Nations.
00:18:08So that's slightly ambiguous.
00:18:10But he does leave on the 15th of December.
00:18:12Will we see Mohamed Salah in a Liverpool shirt again, do you think?
00:18:15I do think we will and I hope we do.
00:18:19I think he'll have time to settle down.
00:18:21The reality is everybody would want a legend like Salah to go on good terms
00:18:26with a wonderful send off, maybe at the end of the season.
00:18:29You know, as great players have had in the past.
00:18:32I hope it doesn't end badly because of everything he's given,
00:18:35but there's always a chance if he's adamant.
00:18:37The reality is Liverpool Football Club are in charge of what happens
00:18:40because they've got his contract.
00:18:42You know, he signed the contract.
00:18:44But if he's adamant he wants to leave, then maybe we'll see something in January.
00:18:47But I hope not.
00:18:49Back to the action on the pitch.
00:18:51And Arsenal had the chance to move eight points clear at the top in the early game.
00:18:55Inform Aston Villa had won eight of their last nine.
00:18:58Steve Wilson was at Villa Park.
00:19:02Arsenal were the only side to beat Villa here in the league last season.
00:19:05Doing so again won't be easy.
00:19:07After their poor start, Villa are in very good shape.
00:19:10In goal, Emi Martinez returns, having missed the midweek win at Brighton.
00:19:15Oli Watkins trebled his season's goal tally in that game.
00:19:18And he has six in his career against the Gunners.
00:19:21With Saliba, Gabriel and Nam Moshkera injured, Arsenal are short in the centre of defence.
00:19:26Durian Timber comes in and Ben White plays in successive games for the first time this season.
00:19:34Aston Villa, one home defeat in 31.
00:19:37Arsenal, one defeat anywhere in 24.
00:19:41Martinez carefully for Rodgers under a bit of pressure.
00:19:46He's lost the ball.
00:19:47Here's Martin Erdegaard for Arsenal.
00:19:50Dropped on it, Martinez.
00:19:53In a dangerous position here.
00:19:56Saw it coming.
00:19:58This would be a massive win if Arsenal can succeed at Villa Park today.
00:20:13McGinn and Watkins.
00:20:15Lovely feet, still Oli Watkins.
00:20:17Great save by David Reier.
00:20:21Watkins seemed to have done everything right, but he could not beat David Reier.
00:20:26Palafiore was taken out of this in the collision with John McGinn,
00:20:31who then was the man who delivered it into Watkins.
00:20:36That is a brilliant save.
00:20:37No foul, Timber on Watkins, Erdegaard now leading the Arsenal counter.
00:20:53Saka, good position, good shot.
00:20:57Erdegaard for the rebound, Marino in the middle, Ezzet and Saka there too.
00:21:03White's cross, Saka's header.
00:21:05Offside anyway.
00:21:09Really good stuff from Arsenal this.
00:21:13A save Martinez would expect to make, it is pretty straight and true.
00:21:19Doesn't feel like this game is going to end goalless, does it?
00:21:24Arsenal have only failed to score in one game in all competitions this season.
00:21:29That was at Anfield.
00:21:31Erdegaard sneaked beautifully, it says it. Offside.
00:21:33Well, the flag went up immediately.
00:21:34And there weren't too many big Arsenal celebrations here.
00:21:36Move in!
00:21:37Move in!
00:21:38Move in!
00:21:39Move in!
00:21:40Intended for Erdegaard, picked off by Kamara.
00:21:41Lost by Watkins only momentarily though.
00:21:42Telemins to Kamara, Kamara to Rodgers.
00:21:43Telemins, Watkins, McGinn and Cashaw getting forward.
00:21:46This is Mati Cash.
00:21:47Good luck by Rice.
00:21:48And there weren't too many big Arsenal celebrations here.
00:21:49And there weren't too many big Arsenal celebrations here.
00:21:51And there weren't too many big Arsenal fans here, that's the only big Arsenal Dodgers.
00:21:55And he's been able to advance him.
00:21:56And he's been able to advance him, his Dutch brothers and brothers and sisters.
00:21:57To finish out a line up after he got over it.
00:21:58And he's been able to advance him to keep them from scratch, and to give them another
00:22:00location.
00:22:01And they've been able to advance him to the win and move.
00:22:02And he's been able to advance him for that.
00:22:03And I really want to see a massive showdown, the game that requires him for a lot of
00:22:04by Watkins, only momentarily though, Tielemans to Camara, Camara to Rodgers, Tielemans, Watkins,
00:22:10McGinn and Cash all getting forward, this is Mati Cash, good block by Rice, well they
00:22:18took the wind out of Declan Rice but it was a block he absolutely had to make, Cash hit
00:22:24it well onto the rib of Declan Rice.
00:22:28Now Torres for Aston Villa, into the last 10 minutes of this absorbing first half, and
00:22:44Torres cross, and Cash around the back scores!
00:22:47Arsenal completely lost Mati Cash, and he drills Aston Villa in front! How did Cash find
00:23:05so much room! It's a really good finish!
00:23:17Here's Saka.
00:23:23She kick Arsenal.
00:23:26It's White, Odegaard, Leandro Trossard right across the face! Well that's a real opportunity,
00:23:37difficult, off target.
00:23:40Saka for Arsenal, Odegaard, Jokureshin, Trossard arriving, it's Bukayo Saka, Consul with a touch,
00:23:56and Trossard with the goal! And it's been coming since half-time, Leandro Trossard's made an enormous difference,
00:24:04and he scores the goal that levels it up! Villa 1, Arsenal 1. Odegaard into Saka, clearly onside.
00:24:13And Emi Martinez with a touch, which wasn't enough to divert it away from Leandro Trossard.
00:24:21And Arsenal are level!
00:24:23And Spaniards on the pitch and in the dugout, and we'll be very pleased to be able to perform in front of that man,
00:24:33the great Real Madrid and Spain striker Raúl is here today.
00:24:39He knew where the goal was.
00:24:44Block to Watkins.
00:24:46Tielemans for Rodgers.
00:24:48Morgan Rodgers here for Aston Villa, finding Oli Watkins.
00:24:53Rodgers arriving in the box, Watkins, Watkins!
00:24:56Pushed out by David Raya, good save.
00:25:01Well that's maybe Oli Watkins' best effort yet, good save by David Raya.
00:25:09That's Odegaard.
00:25:18There's a shot on if he wants it, he does!
00:25:23Oh!
00:25:25It's a corner.
00:25:27Well if I could tell he was going to shoot, so could Emi Martinez, and he made a really good save here.
00:25:32Fingertip.
00:25:34Just might have hit the crossbar rather than the net.
00:25:37It's a super effort.
00:25:38Put a pace on that toward Califiori.
00:25:43And Saka!
00:25:45Oh, that was heading in.
00:25:47Great block by Boubacar Kamara, that was a terrific effort.
00:25:52Well this is a really important block, it's a fantastic effort by Saka.
00:25:57And that is going in, but for Boubacar Kamara.
00:25:59Califiori's made an error at Rodgers, and Marlon!
00:26:09No!
00:26:13Well this is such a good opportunity.
00:26:16Rodgers sneaking it into Daniel Marlon, who pulls it across David Raya and wide.
00:26:22Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin! Martin
00:26:52Martinelli, Timber, it's not a bad looking ball at all, Declan Weiss has it, delivers it early,
00:27:09Madweke, side netting, not easy, the angle wasn't that promising for Nonyi Madweke.
00:27:16Can Aston Villa win it? Jadon Sancho, Emiliano Buendia-Ordegaard took it off his toe, Lindelof for Tielemans,
00:27:28Kamara, Rodgers, Marlon, and Katia on his shoulder, Daniel Marlon, Rodgers cross, and Sancho,
00:27:37and Tielemans, and Buendia denied, and Kamara, blocked by White, Kamara, Buendia!
00:27:47Absolute bedlam at Villa Park, Emiliano Buendia,
00:27:57an incredible climax, astonishing, it was chaos inside the penalty area,
00:28:05until it fell back to Emiliano Buendia. Video assistant referee Darren England has picked the bones out of the chaos in the
00:28:16penalty area, and the goal stands, and Aston Villa have beaten the league leaders, and are now within three points of Arsenal at the top of the
00:28:27Premier League table, and Arsenal's 18-match unbeaten run has come to an end at Villa Park.
00:28:35I mean, many congratulations, what a fantastic way to win a football match.
00:28:40Yes, incredible, I think the feeling to score that goal, to help the team to get the win, such an important win against the leader of the table, so it's really important, obviously, really, really proud to help the team to score that goal, so I'm very happy.
00:28:57We are learning about how we can manage 90 minutes, sometimes we are dominated, sometimes not, it depends on the opponent we are facing today, of course, we needed to be resilient, like we are doing usually, and then our momentum to try to believe, and I think the players respond fantastic, and they were the last minute showing their wishes to win this match.
00:29:14We go into every game with the mentality to win the football game, and, yeah, we didn't do it today, but we just have to keep that, and then, yeah, of course, look at what we can do better for the next game, and go from there.
00:29:41Congratulations, Villa, they are a really, really good side. In the second half, we started much more aggressive, scored the goal, and had the feeling that we were going to go and win the game, to lose it in the last stage of the game, the manner that we did it.
00:29:54It is painful, but it's football, 18 games I'm beating, you lose a game, now you have to go back and start again.
00:30:02And it does hurt for Arsenal, and will hurt, that defeat by Aston Villa, but they were able to unlock Arsenal in a way that we haven't really seen so far this season.
00:30:10How did they do it, Danny?
00:30:11Well, Unai Emery deserves a lot of credit, he tweaked it again for midweek, he played Tielemans as a 10, and he let Rodgers play on the left, but he let him drift inside as well, and double up in that 10 area.
00:30:22We'll see this as an example. It was a good game, by the way, two good teams going toe for toe.
00:30:27Zubamendi's occupied by Tielemans, Rodgers has drifted in off that left, on this occasion Ben White's gone with him, but he switches off, and then that little pass, all of a sudden there's that space,
00:30:35and you're on the Arsenal back four. We didn't see that very often with other games. Better pass there, Mattson would have been in.
00:30:42Here's Tielemans, who was absolutely outstanding in the game, picking up that position.
00:30:47This time Rodgers keeps his position, he's out on the left-hand side in space, got a bit of space out there at times,
00:30:53and he's always, end product's always good, and Cash nearly gets a shot away, great block from Declan Rice.
00:30:58On this occasion, you can see, again, with Rodgers popping up in that 10, where Zubamendi isn't really keeping an eye on him,
00:31:06because he's thinking, where's Tielemans? What's a pass that is, by the way?
00:31:10And there's Tielemans just to the left of him, little swap of positions, and Watkins is in, trying to get a shot off.
00:31:16Maybe he should have passed it there for a shot, but it's a good block again from Arsenal.
00:31:21But they kept getting into pockets and spaces behind Arsenal that we haven't seen teams do against this brilliant defence.
00:31:28Yes, they've got centre-halves missing, we know that.
00:31:30This is an unbelievable run from Rodgers, by the way. Talk about confidence and skill from him.
00:31:35And there's Tielemans again. His energy, Tielemans, I mean, he looked like he had a point to prove today.
00:31:40This is a great example. Two-pocket, Zubamendi doesn't know which way to go, right or left.
00:31:45Rodgers drifts over from that central position. It's an in-to-out run.
00:31:48And because of that, Timber has to go with him. There's the Arsenal centre-half at right-back.
00:31:52Zubamendi's had to cover Timber, so you've got midfield in at centre-half.
00:31:55Nobody drags Arsenal around like this. It was absolutely brilliant at times.
00:31:59And to come back, actually, from Arsenal at 1-1, we're in the ascendancy, and Villa regained their composure really well.
00:32:05Here he is again, running, I mean, his physique and his power when he's running with the ball is incredible.
00:32:11But Ben White, again, he's not matching him because he's too far in.
00:32:14He's tucked into that little pocket, brilliant, intelligent play from him.
00:32:18This is the winner. Tielemans involved. Rodgers popping up on the right of this side.
00:32:21He'd swap sides because Sancho would come on.
00:32:24And when you talk about quality across in the last-minute game, look at this.
00:32:26And there's Tielemans. Just watch. He's got ahead of Zubamendi again, caused him problems all afternoon.
00:32:32And probably just about edged the game with the quality of their performance and deserved the win.
00:32:36Because I thought over the 90 minutes, they had better opportunities, got into better areas.
00:32:42And I think we'll see a graphic now where the numbers will tell you this.
00:32:45Look, I mean, big chances against Arsenal. That's five more than anyone else.
00:32:49Touches in the opposition box and expected goals. 2.18.
00:32:51Huge against arguably the best defence in Europe.
00:32:55I know they're missing players.
00:32:57Before you jump on, I know.
00:33:00And anyone would miss two great centre-halves like that.
00:33:01But still, credit Villa. Absolutely brilliant plan.
00:33:06Yeah, what about your old side?
00:33:07They've really grown into this season.
00:33:09They've now beaten the team who are at the top of the table.
00:33:11They've got themselves right in the mix themselves.
00:33:14Do we start talking about them as title contenders?
00:33:18Why not?
00:33:19In the situation they're in at the moment, three points behind a team they've just beaten today.
00:33:23But it's about keeping all the players fit and staying at these levels today.
00:33:29If they want to stay in a title race.
00:33:30If they do that, yes they are, without a doubt.
00:33:33You mentioned the Arsenal injuries and we should sort of factor that in and take a look at the players who are out.
00:33:39Is it an excuse?
00:33:40Is it a reason for the way that they performed today?
00:33:44For the goals that they conceded against Villa?
00:33:47I think it's fair to say they might have more points if Saliba and Gabriel had been fit for all the games.
00:33:54That's fair.
00:33:55I actually think the level of Villa's performance today, I'm not sure it would have mattered.
00:34:00They were that good.
00:34:02But I do think moving forward for Arsenal, the quicker they get those two back, the better for them.
00:34:07That's not because Nkappé and Mosquera aren't good players, but they've just set this bar, those two.
00:34:12They're such a good partnership.
00:34:14Talking of good players.
00:34:15Barry Venison was the last Sunderland player to score a winning goal away at Manchester City, 44 years ago this month.
00:34:24We don't think Jonathan Pearce was commentating at that one, but he was at the Etihad today.
00:34:28Since that Sunderland win at Main Road, they've failed to pick up a single victory in 13 Premier League attempts at City.
00:34:38We've won six in a row against today's visitors.
00:34:41Pep Guardiola has called the midweek 5-4 win at Fulham crazy, admitting they have to defend better, but he sticks with the same back four.
00:34:48Jericho with his fifth league start for Rinders, their only change.
00:34:52They're unbeaten at home in Saturday 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League for four years.
00:34:56Sunderland make three changes from their creditable draw at Liverpool.
00:35:00Income Gertrida to a back five.
00:35:02Isidore and Torre, Batalbi, Brobby and Reynaldo has a groin injury.
00:35:07Its manager Regis Labrie's 50th birthday.
00:35:10Manchester City look for a 7th Premier League home win in a row.
00:35:21He says go on, and that's well played, Sunderland.
00:35:25Strong run by Torre.
00:35:27Here's Le Fay.
00:35:29That's the first thing he's done in the game.
00:35:31And he did it quite well, drafted a shot in the end.
00:35:34One thing in his mind, saw the gap, went for it.
00:35:37Pushed it wide.
00:35:38Manchester City.
00:35:40Sunderland got a very good record against promoted sides.
00:35:4224 wins in their last 26 meetings against teams who've come up.
00:35:46The thing is, Sunderland don't look anything like a newly promoted team.
00:35:52Here's Cherki.
00:35:54Doku is still waiting on the left-hand side.
00:35:57Another ball game.
00:35:59At the time they've got it to him, though, once again, Sunderland are set.
00:36:03Michele is there with him.
00:36:04So to Torre, here's Cherki again.
00:36:08One more pass comes here to Diaz.
00:36:09He's slammed into it.
00:36:10What a goal!
00:36:14What a strike!
00:36:14That was Vincent Kompany-esque.
00:36:19A terrific way to break the deadlock.
00:36:24Tremendous goal, this.
00:36:25When it came to Diaz, he saw a gap.
00:36:27Bang, he went for it, didn't he?
00:36:29It's deflected, I think.
00:36:30Hit it with great power.
00:36:32But the deflection played a major part.
00:36:34Will that alter Sunderland's game plan?
00:36:37Not at this stage of the match, I would think.
00:36:41Cherki.
00:36:45That's a corner.
00:36:48Hume got the last touch as he defended.
00:36:50Harland, the powerhouse in the middle.
00:36:56In it comes towards Harland, it's a brilliant run-in there, and a powerful header to give him the second.
00:37:02Juska Glaniel.
00:37:03And from Sunday, looking like a frustrating Saturday afternoon, Manchester City's centre-backs have shown the forwards the way to do it.
00:37:12It's a thumping header.
00:37:15All the eyes were on Harland.
00:37:18And he powered on in.
00:37:21Shrugs off his marker.
00:37:23And powers in the header.
00:37:25Once he got into that position, a downward header with that power was always going to be difficult to stop.
00:37:302-0 Manchester City.
00:37:35Harland isolated with Ballard, a bit of wrestling going on there.
00:37:39Cherki to Doki.
00:37:42Jeremy Doki, bending it, off the post.
00:37:45Comes out, Foden, brilliant block by Ballard.
00:37:49Foden again.
00:37:51This time it was blocked by Siddiqui, and Manchester City's so close to it there.
00:37:56He shaked the shot deliciously.
00:37:58Off the upright.
00:38:00Close to the sixth of the season for Jeremy Doki.
00:38:03And then Foden's effort was blocked by Ballard.
00:38:08Oh, great to see big Naquan in the house.
00:38:11For both of these football clubs.
00:38:13Seven years at Manchester City, and then seven years at Sunderland.
00:38:17Foden calling for the ball.
00:38:20Oh, it's good pressure!
00:38:22And a fine save by Donnarumma.
00:38:26That was their moment, Sunderland, to get back into the game.
00:38:28Isidore denied by the goalkeeper.
00:38:32Diaz.
00:38:34Lackadaisical.
00:38:35Isidore pounced.
00:38:37Hit the ball and it hadn't quite come down.
00:38:40Straight at Donnarumma.
00:38:41Held in towards the near post area.
00:38:45It's going to be a corner up Harland.
00:38:47It's going to be a corner kick.
00:38:54City have everyone back.
00:38:57It's loose, it comes out to...
00:38:59Chaka off the post.
00:39:01And scrambled up in the air for Manchester City.
00:39:05Sunderland captain denied by the woodwork.
00:39:08Really unlucky here, Chaka.
00:39:10Kept it down, good technique, drilled against the post.
00:39:15Ronaldo Silva slips it to Chaka.
00:39:17They've got a good understanding.
00:39:18Oh, he's done brilliantly.
00:39:20Still going, Cherky.
00:39:21Mesmerik.
00:39:22Harland.
00:39:22Off the line.
00:39:24Would have been a superb third Manchester City goal.
00:39:28Cherky at the heart of it.
00:39:33So close here.
00:39:34This is wonderful from Ryan Cherky.
00:39:36This is what he can do at his best.
00:39:38Left defenders floundering.
00:39:40And Torrida was the man on the line to block.
00:39:46Harland for Manchester City.
00:39:48Whenever he picks it up,
00:39:49there's a buzz around the Etihad Stadium.
00:39:52Bernardo Silva.
00:39:53There's Cherky White.
00:39:55Up through the gears.
00:39:57Stands up the defender.
00:39:59Lovely.
00:39:59Beautiful.
00:40:00What a goal.
00:40:01Phil Foden.
00:40:03Extraordinary.
00:40:05Wow.
00:40:07Ryan Cherky.
00:40:09Bit of magic.
00:40:10Foden finished it off.
00:40:13What a run he's having.
00:40:14And it was the way the goal was created.
00:40:16By Ryan Cherky,
00:40:18who has turned it on today.
00:40:21There shouldn't be a danger
00:40:22until this moment coming up.
00:40:24Runs the defender.
00:40:25Checks back.
00:40:26And how about this?
00:40:27Wonderful.
00:40:28And Foden finishes it off.
00:40:31Beautiful.
00:40:32And Cherky.
00:40:34Everyone is on their feet at the Etihad applauding.
00:40:37That's one of the goals of the season.
00:40:39Arsenal now will be only too aware
00:40:42that Manchester City are breathing down their necks.
00:40:45Now Cherky.
00:40:50He's done his man again.
00:40:52He's on fire.
00:40:54Comes all the way through.
00:40:55And just poked wide.
00:40:59That would have been some start with Tajani Rangis.
00:41:02On a plate for him, really, after the work from Cherky.
00:41:05Doku now, as Manchester City looked to break.
00:41:15Cherky.
00:41:18Marmouche is through the middle.
00:41:19He's hung on to it.
00:41:21Doku's on the outside.
00:41:23And it's a decent save by Roofs.
00:41:28Right footed across the goalkeeper's save.
00:41:29Onin's come on at left back.
00:41:37On the far side.
00:41:38He played a minute of the season so far.
00:41:40Onin, he was up with a shoulder injury.
00:41:43Here's Doku.
00:41:46Notice the City look for a fourth.
00:41:47No way through there.
00:41:48And still he gets a shot away.
00:41:53Doku was allowed to spin.
00:41:55The goalkeeper pushed it over.
00:41:57Made short.
00:41:59Doku needs to have to foot in there.
00:42:08And he won't get a yellow card.
00:42:09It's not the first of his career.
00:42:12It won't be the last.
00:42:16Oh, looking at that.
00:42:18That's nasty.
00:42:19This is going to be an on-field review.
00:42:21He's mistimed that.
00:42:23He's caught the player fairly high.
00:42:26It wasn't a control challenge.
00:42:28He knows he's going.
00:42:30He's already walking.
00:42:32That's certainly endangered.
00:42:34His opponent caught Nunes on the calf.
00:42:37He's in the league.
00:42:38From the football team.
00:42:40He's a challenge which I think is the safety of the Portland.
00:42:42A final decision.
00:42:44He's right back.
00:42:44On for five minutes.
00:42:46Yellow becomes red.
00:42:49Manchester City.
00:42:50Par the pressure on Arsenal.
00:42:52With a convincing 3-0 win.
00:42:54It's tough to repeat high performances at this level.
00:43:01We knew before that the sequence of Bournemouth, Liverpool and Manchester away was a strong
00:43:08sequence.
00:43:09I think we did well against Liverpool.
00:43:11We were not at our best today and City's quality is relentless.
00:43:15So they deserve this win.
00:43:16I know my quality, my quality is my technique.
00:43:20When I play with Phil, Erling, Omar, Bernardo, it's very important for me to give the good
00:43:27ball for them and I won't continue like that.
00:43:31The piece of skill from Cierke, how special was that?
00:43:34Were there ones cross-grouped?
00:43:36The way right, left, the way they have done is fine.
00:43:40The best player that played that game is Messi, never make naïve things, always the simple
00:43:48things.
00:43:49The simple things are always the best and all these type of players, they have a big, big
00:43:53talent.
00:43:54Ryan is a big talent.
00:43:55If crowd is good, it's fine.
00:43:57But if it's not good, that is not good.
00:44:00Well, it wasn't quite a stuffing but there was a Cierke and even if Pep Guardiola thinks
00:44:05that there's room for improvement, room for simplification is what he wants from Cierke.
00:44:10He's said things like this a couple of times already about this player and yet what he
00:44:15does is so important.
00:44:17Well, listen, what he did today impressed me.
00:44:20I thought he chose the right pass at the right time.
00:44:24He gets himself into good positions.
00:44:26Never looks flustered when he's on the ball.
00:44:28Seems to assess the situation.
00:44:30I mean, a little bit of skill there.
00:44:31I wanted to show that.
00:44:32That was very good to get himself out of the tight spec.
00:44:35And you always say use your skill when you need to.
00:44:38Look at him here.
00:44:39Nice and calm.
00:44:40He just waits.
00:44:41He can go to his right winger if he wants to to Nunes but he just waits for that gap to
00:44:44open.
00:44:45Silva's there and he just waits.
00:44:46He's patient and he just threads it through.
00:44:48No problem at all.
00:44:49He knows what the right pass is and he can execute it more often than not.
00:44:54I like this one because it's the weight of the pass and Daniel appreciate this one.
00:44:58As a midfield player, you like to bang it into your forward players as quick as possible.
00:45:02Again here, he doesn't panic.
00:45:04Keeps the ball at his feet.
00:45:06He waits and he waits and he waits.
00:45:08And that chance there for Harland is bread and water more or less than he would normally
00:45:12score that.
00:45:13This time he's thinking to himself, what do I do here?
00:45:15Do I cross it now?
00:45:16No, I can find a gap.
00:45:17I can pick someone out.
00:45:18And he picks out his teammate at the far post.
00:45:21So he ticks a lot of boxes for Pep.
00:45:23I know he doesn't like him showboating but, you know, as you will see towards the end of
00:45:27his clip, a bit of showboating works.
00:45:29This one here, no pass on.
00:45:30So I'll do it myself.
00:45:31So what he does is what I think is no other midfield player does for City.
00:45:37I think this here, a little bit of a chop.
00:45:39There's the boner that the boss didn't like but it ended up on Phil Foden's head and it's
00:45:44a goal.
00:45:45I mean that's just outstanding.
00:45:46To have the confidence to do that and to put it in the right place.
00:45:49As long as it works, the boss is right, as long as it works, you'll get away with it.
00:45:53And look, he does this right across the pitch.
00:45:56He does.
00:45:57Most touches, most touches in the opposition box, most pass in the final third.
00:46:00The final third counts is the one.
00:46:01Most chances created.
00:46:02Yeah.
00:46:03You know, passing the final third.
00:46:04That means that he's being positive with his football.
00:46:06He affected the game today.
00:46:08So he makes all those differences and then Pep Guardiola says, look, even Lionel Messi
00:46:13doesn't try that kind of trick.
00:46:15He keeps it simple.
00:46:16Is he right to point that out, do you think?
00:46:18I quite like it in a way.
00:46:19It's typical Pep because what he's doing is he's just giving the player a little bit
00:46:24of a warning that he wants perfection all the time, he wants more.
00:46:28So all the good stuff, he'll have told him well done, of course.
00:46:32Yeah, of course.
00:46:33The stuff you've pointed out, they're really good things.
00:46:35Keep doing that but then don't let that lead you to start trying these silly things
00:46:39because Rabona's going to be one in 50 that.
00:46:42So I quite like what Pep's done there.
00:46:44Looks good when it comes off though, doesn't it?
00:46:46David Moyes said yesterday that Sean Deitch did a brilliant job as Everton boss.
00:46:50Deitch returned to his former club with Nottingham Forest.
00:46:53Stephen Wyeth was at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
00:46:57Mutual admiration between the managers matched only by a shared desire
00:47:01for an impressive fourth win in five.
00:47:04Everton's squad is stretched so Michael Keane's return from injury
00:47:07to replace the suspended Tim Irabunum is a relief.
00:47:10The local fondness for Jack Grealish has been intensified
00:47:13by his midweek winner at Bournemouth.
00:47:16Forest's single goal success at Wolves has convinced Sean Deitch to stick with the same players.
00:47:21So Amari Hutchinson's patience is rewarded with successive Premier League starts.
00:47:26Morgan Gibbs-White scored in the corresponding fixture last season, a 2-0 Forest win.
00:47:31Two sides who've come into December in excellent form.
00:47:37In fact, in identical form across the last five games.
00:47:41What will it take to separate them today?
00:47:44Saverna with his first challenge up against Jack Grealish.
00:47:50And it's resulted in an early Everton free kick.
00:47:53And a yellow card inside 30 seconds.
00:48:00Less than ideal for Saverna considering the form that Jack Grealish has been in recently.
00:48:07Might be costly in terms of his ability to make further challenges this afternoon.
00:48:15And it comes from Garnup.
00:48:19Defended by Forest, but Everton can stay forward for the time being.
00:48:24Dewsbury Hall has gone for the return pass and has composed himself.
00:48:29And has scored a fantastic early Everton goal.
00:48:34Kiernan Dewsbury Hall in scintillating form of late.
00:48:40Well, Garnup and Dewsbury Hall exchange passes, but it was all about that turn back inside.
00:48:47Dewsbury Hall's was not the final touch.
00:48:49Nikola Malenkovic, it may well go down as an own goal against him.
00:48:53Everton won't mind how they've scored.
00:48:56All they will mind is that they are in front early after a run of two defeats in three at home.
00:49:07Now off the ball, Tarkovsky is shoved Ndoy.
00:49:11And any sort of delay right now might suit Sean Dyche.
00:49:16Although we will be concerned about Dan and Doy.
00:49:21Tarkovsky just backing into Ndoy initially.
00:49:24And then a bump from behind.
00:49:27That was more aggressive than needed.
00:49:30It has now been checked and cleared as nothing more than petulant.
00:49:36That's what Sean Dyche thinks of it.
00:49:41Late first half pressure from Nottingham Forest.
00:49:43Hutchinson.
00:49:46Nicely done.
00:49:47Anderson.
00:49:49Super save Jordan Pickford.
00:49:51It needed to be a really strong hand.
00:49:53Well, this is the most threatening we've seen Nottingham Forest.
00:49:58Anderson on target.
00:49:59But Jordan Pickford knew that he didn't just need to save the shot.
00:50:02He needs to make sure the ball was directed away from the loitering Forest players.
00:50:08Here comes Ndoy.
00:50:09Late first half chance for Everton.
00:50:11Ndoy for Barry.
00:50:12For Barry.
00:50:13Yes.
00:50:16Finally for Tierno Barry.
00:50:20A moment of jubilation and utter joy.
00:50:24His endeavor has been appreciated throughout the first half.
00:50:28Now he has a goal to show for his 45 minutes of effort.
00:50:33And his efforts for Everton up until now.
00:50:37As Everton broke, Forest think there might have been a touch off referee Chris Kavanagh.
00:50:43Murato has been booked for his protests.
00:50:47Elimin and Jai skip past the challenge of Murato.
00:50:51And then it was about the decision making and the weight of pass.
00:50:53Both were perfect.
00:50:54And Tierno Barry, the beneficiary of a relatively straightforward finish to get off the mark in Everton colours.
00:51:03Not just a goal for him, but a goal to give Everton a comfortable lead going into half-time.
00:51:14Well, the 21 points that Everton had on the board coming into the weekend.
00:51:18Impressive if you consider that in each of the last three seasons.
00:51:21They didn't reach that tally until February.
00:51:27In from Hudson-Odoi.
00:51:29Pickford has not dealt with that at all.
00:51:32And has taken Tarkovsky on the line to save the goalkeeper from an embarrassing moment.
00:51:38As he came but didn't make anything like sufficient contact and then couldn't get on the loose ball.
00:51:42Right place, right time.
00:51:43James Tarkovsky to preserve Everton's 2-0 lead.
00:51:48Dwight McNeil finding Garner.
00:51:53McNeil applying some pressure.
00:51:58And it's forced a mistake.
00:52:02Grealish.
00:52:04Chance for a third.
00:52:06And so close to it.
00:52:08Dewsbury Hall.
00:52:11Teed up by Grealish.
00:52:13But he could only glance the outside of the frame with the goal.
00:52:16Saturday afternoons were a little bit freer this season to get out and about and watch one of his old clubs in action.
00:52:24Gary Lineker sat alongside Peter Reid.
00:52:27Gibbs-White pinched away from him by McNeil.
00:52:31His fresh legs in midfield for Everton have been useful and now Dwight McNeil has got space to exploit as well.
00:52:40Hilleman and N'Jai.
00:52:42Beto in the penalty area and N'Jai going it alone.
00:52:45And very nearly producing a wonderful finish.
00:52:49Instead, Matt Sells with the outstretched hand turns it aside.
00:52:54N'Jai had an option in the middle if he wanted it.
00:52:57There was a stumble which looked like it might cost him an effort at goal.
00:53:02But when it did come, Matt Sells was required to come up with a save.
00:53:10White McNeil, he's been really positive since coming on.
00:53:14Can see it back from Grealish.
00:53:16Off Abbott for the corner.
00:53:17Garner's corner, Tarkovsky's in their cells.
00:53:27Had to get a hand on the ball.
00:53:29And then fired back in.
00:53:31Quite brilliantly.
00:53:33That'll do for Everton very nicely.
00:53:35And all three points secured.
00:53:38Cierden Dewsbury Hall has put the matter beyond any reasonable doubt.
00:53:42Well, perhaps fitting that he's scored after it.
00:53:45Another blockbuster display in that Everton midfield.
00:53:49Power and placement more than enough to make it Everton 3, Nottingham Forest 0.
00:53:54I'm too old now to say that I just want to avoid relegation.
00:54:00I want to make Europe and I want to get Everton in Europe.
00:54:03But I'm also not daft enough to come out and say that that's possible
00:54:07because we have to try and work really hard.
00:54:09We're probably not ready.
00:54:11Or not quite at that level.
00:54:13But we'll keep nodding at the door and see where we end up.
00:54:16Well, we obviously didn't start well.
00:54:18And that's not ideal.
00:54:20And then the second one, I mean, I'm crying at him, but he hits the ref on the way through.
00:54:23I thought the rules were if the ball hits the ref, they have to stop it.
00:54:26I just spoke to the ref, he said it didn't hit him.
00:54:28We know it did, you can see it, but that's the way it goes.
00:54:30Decisions go against us.
00:54:32I think big to argue, you know, I'm a great fan of two different clubs.
00:54:35He hits one of our players in the back and I know there's nothing done about that.
00:54:38I've just seen him, I told him it was getting a mention.
00:54:40But, generally, they deserved it.
00:54:42And we weren't anywhere near where I want us to be.
00:54:43I think it's huge for him.
00:54:45But I think that everybody felt that it was coming.
00:54:48It was certainly due, to put it that way, because, you know, we wanted to give him the chance to do it.
00:54:52But, you know, he's got to score, I think, when you're playing centre-forward.
00:54:56If you're not going to score, then we have to find something else that's going to do that.
00:54:59Today I feel everything, because it's a long time I don't score.
00:55:03So I'm very, very happy.
00:55:05And, yeah, I can't stop to smile because I scored today, so I'm very happy.
00:55:10I'm very happy.
00:55:12Dion, it turns out there is a version of Baz Ball that does work.
00:55:15And it's Tieno Barry, who finally, finally gets the goal.
00:55:19Look, David Moyes is very much in the camp of don't get carried away.
00:55:21Yeah.
00:55:22But it's hard not to be happy for him.
00:55:25Yeah, it is because, you know, he's trying so hard.
00:55:27He's getting himself into really good positions.
00:55:30And he's just, sometimes as a centre-forward, everything you hit goes in.
00:55:34At the moment, what he's doing, he thinks he's scored.
00:55:37He shanks winning the call and he's offside, and that didn't work for him either.
00:55:41But today, it just worked for him.
00:55:44There he is.
00:55:46He works so hard.
00:55:47He ends up going down the centre of the pitch, and then he thinks, right,
00:55:49let me just open up the goal for Ndiaye.
00:55:52Ndiaye just puts it on a plate for him.
00:55:54Now, he hasn't got to make a decision.
00:55:56That's the only finish that he can do.
00:55:58There's nothing he's got to do apart from passing the back of the net.
00:56:01And look at the joy in his face.
00:56:02That is someone that just wants to score goals and help his teammates out.
00:56:07And I was so happy for him.
00:56:09Yeah, there was such a fantastic reception.
00:56:10Not just from the fans, but as you say, from his teammates as well.
00:56:14And from some watching dignitaries in the stands there as well.
00:56:18Look, this is the Premier League table since David Moyes came in January earlier this year.
00:56:24Everton are in eighth place in that.
00:56:27They're doing incredibly well.
00:56:28He says Europe is where he wants to take them, but he doesn't want to say that it's possible.
00:56:34On this form, it is possible, isn't it?
00:56:37Well, I mean, they'd have to be lucky with injuries.
00:56:38They haven't got great strength and depth, but he's done an exceptional job
00:56:42and probably exceeded all Evertonians' expectations.
00:56:46It's remarkable, really.
00:56:48And hopefully he'll be back, well, for his sake and the club's sake,
00:56:51he'll be back again in January to kick on and maybe try and cement a top eight,
00:56:54top eight, top six, Finn, and probably top eight more realistic than top six.
00:56:59Two games for you in Sunday's Match of the Day.
00:57:02Well been.
00:57:06Oh, that's a peach and a goal.
00:57:09It's in, Wilson.
00:57:10And that is what he does.
00:57:12Driven back in by Chobweze.
00:57:15He's done it again.
00:57:17Munoz with the opener for Crystal Palace.
00:57:20It's FA Cup second round weekend.
00:57:25Boreham Wood versus Newport County is live on Sunday.
00:57:29BBC Two from 2.15pm.
00:57:32There's live rugby tomorrow.
00:57:34Saracens play Loughborough Lightning in the PWR.
00:57:36That's a 3pm kickoff on iPlayer.
00:57:39And this week's football interview with Mauricio Pochettino follows us tonight
00:57:43or you can watch it when you like on iPlayer.
00:57:45And if you missed the start of the show, it's available right now on iPlayer along with highlights from every single match.
00:57:52Well, we've just seen their win over Nottingham Forest, but it's time for a second trip to Everton
00:57:58to find out what the club's doing to keep young fans in safe hands.
00:58:04Everton, the community, they've been helping people across Liverpool, all age groups for 35 years now.
00:58:10Today I'm back and I'm meeting a young man whose journey shows the great work that this place can do.
00:58:17You alright? How you going Jack? You okay?
00:58:18I'm Michael Keane and this is more than a game.
00:58:24So, Safe Hands is a programme that started two years ago,
00:58:28looking at targeting young people who are struggling in mainstream school for a lot of different reasons.
00:58:33High school honestly was really hard. Before I come here I was very bad with sensory issues.
00:58:40I am a previous student of Safe Hands and I am now enrolled in Catering College.
00:58:45Jai's journey has been an amazing one to witness and be a part of.
00:58:52So, to see him in college now and absolutely thriving is absolutely amazing to see.
00:58:57So, they've really helped you?
00:58:59Really, really.
00:59:01To see the impact this place has had on Jai is amazing.
00:59:05He's so confident, he's amazing at what he does and hopefully it can help a lot more people too.
00:59:10And I'll see how it tastes at the end.
00:59:15Well, it looks like it's going to be nice.
00:59:18Safe Hands is funded by the Premier League and the PFA Fund.
00:59:22With the support that they give us, we are able to support so many young people across the city of Liverpool.
00:59:27Spurs fans had seen their team win just three times at home this year.
00:59:36Their manager Thomas Frank came up against former club Brentford for the first time.
00:59:41James Fieldon was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
00:59:43Once colleagues, now friends and this afternoon opponents.
00:59:47Thomas Frank invites his B's successor, Keith Andrews, to a place which hasn't been a happy Spurs house in 2025.
00:59:53Just three league wins here, lose again.
00:59:56It'll be their worst ever calendar year for league defeats.
00:59:59Tottenham without the injured Destiny Udoggi, but give a first start in a month to Xavi Simons, who's been impressing the boss.
01:00:04Van de Ven, Spence, Cray and Richarlison are all recalled to the side.
01:00:09Brentford have lost six of their seven away games and reinstate Collins, Henderson and Damsgaard who makes his 100th Premier League appearance.
01:00:15Top scorer, Igor Thiago is also back in after rotating in midweek.
01:00:19The Brazilian has scored nine in his last nine appearances.
01:00:24Tottenham with 13 defeats in their last 21 Premier League games here.
01:00:29It hasn't been a happy place to come for Spurs fans in recent times.
01:00:32It might get worse here. Eagle Thiago trying to catch out Vicario at that near post and he so very nearly did.
01:00:39But it was a top stop by the Italian.
01:00:42He took it early there, the Brazilian.
01:00:50Simons in behind Vandenberghe, Richarlison in the middle, it's Richarlison, it's 1-0 Tottenham.
01:00:56Four in six games for the Brazilian.
01:00:58And just the kind of positivity the majority of this crowd needed.
01:01:04Great run by Xavi Simons in behind, Vandenberghe wasn't catching him.
01:01:08And it was the perfect assist for the striker waiting in the middle.
01:01:12His sick Premier League goal of the season.
01:01:15And Tottenham off and running.
01:01:16Vandenberghe wasn't running.
01:01:21Vandenberghe.
01:01:24Bumped.
01:01:25And no foul by Igor Thiago.
01:01:28The cutback was looking good, but that was until Rodrigo Benton-Kur got involved.
01:01:33Simons.
01:01:34Kudus.
01:01:38The gone in, going on the outside and still driving.
01:01:42It's behind for a corner.
01:01:45Ainho with a clean challenge.
01:01:47Kudus is going to be giving him a tough afternoon, but the Norwegian was equal to him there.
01:01:51is equal to him there. Kudus looking to find one of them, and he very nearly did.
01:01:57Kelleher away, it's a corner on the other side.
01:02:04Poro's corner.
01:02:08Romero, Colin Mouane, somehow scoops away by Kelleher.
01:02:15Paris Saint-Germain Loney nearly did the business in the Premier League for the first time there.
01:02:20Both of his goals for Tottenham Hotspur so far came in the Champions League away to Paris Saint-Germain on Matchday 5.
01:02:27And then to Romero.
01:02:31Simons with a heavy touch.
01:02:34And he's done really well to win it back.
01:02:37Xavi Simons, who set up the opener, could be in for a goal himself.
01:02:41Yes, he is! His first for Tottenham!
01:02:45What a moment for Xavi Simons!
01:02:47It's been an up-and-down start to life here in North London for the Dutchman.
01:02:53But after making the error in midfield, it was all about him after that.
01:02:58He just kept on going and going, had the pace and composure, and the finish to match.
01:03:04And even at this early stage, with Brentford's miserable away record, it might be a second goal to put this result beyond doubt.
01:03:16Brentford have a lot of work to do. 2-0 down, away to Spurs.
01:03:19Not too many would come back from here.
01:03:22We've got Thiago, crowded around the edge of the Spurs penalty area.
01:03:28Brenton Coeur.
01:03:30Gray.
01:03:32Spence.
01:03:33Colm Mouane.
01:03:36Oh, it's broken down, but no, Spence is in for number three!
01:03:40Kellhert denies him, miscue by Colm Mouane.
01:03:43And the Chalisson can't find a way through, and Kellhert here has stayed down.
01:03:50And Kellhert's just taken a shin to the back of the head there.
01:03:53Understandably a little bit groggy.
01:04:01Simmonds.
01:04:02Kouros.
01:04:03Couldn't quite bring it under control.
01:04:05Damsgaard didn't see the challenge from Porro coming.
01:04:08Henry making a mess of things.
01:04:10Kouros.
01:04:12Mohamed Kouros!
01:04:14Tried to pull it back across, but Kellhert are equal to it.
01:04:18Brentford not helping themselves there.
01:04:20Kouros such a great driver with the ball.
01:04:22Thought he could have come across goal, but pulled it to the near post instead.
01:04:29And the rain has descended upon this stadium.
01:04:34Jensen.
01:04:35Here's Henry.
01:04:38Was his path blocked there by Pedro Porro?
01:04:42Certainly was in a subtle kind of way.
01:04:47Kouros.
01:04:48He was on the beach there doing keep-ups, but it's gone out of play for a throw to Brentford.
01:04:51Already taken by Jensen.
01:04:53Eagle Thiago!
01:04:55And Romero coming in right at the last there to save the day for Spurs.
01:05:00And Romero screaming in the face there.
01:05:03Of Mohamed Kouros who gave the ball away initially.
01:05:05Spence still has plenty to give down that left-hand side.
01:05:08Spence still has plenty to give down that left-hand side.
01:05:17Spence.
01:05:18It's got to be for Saar!
01:05:20Great block by Kelleher.
01:05:21And Brentford just about surviving here.
01:05:28And away it goes, but Tottenham just cannot finish this game.
01:05:34Well, Papsar scored three minutes in time the last time these sides met in February to wrap up a 2-0 win away from home.
01:05:39Thwarted there by the Brentford goalkeeper.
01:05:46Henderson.
01:05:49Thiago.
01:05:51Angel Toro.
01:05:53And the clear is that doesn't go very far.
01:05:55Jan Eltz.
01:05:57And Eagle Thiago!
01:05:59Side netting only.
01:06:01A really rare chance for the Brazilian this afternoon.
01:06:04And that chance might have needed to have been taken by Brentford if they were going to salvage a draw out of this.
01:06:10Not this time.
01:06:12I think we all felt, OK, we need the top performance for all of us together.
01:06:17And if we can do more of this together, this can be the fortress we're dreaming of.
01:06:22It's one step forward.
01:06:24There's a lot of steps to be there consistently every week for us and the fans together, but I loved it.
01:06:29I think they were very good.
01:06:31I didn't think we had the spark needed to really undo them this afternoon.
01:06:36It was always going to come from a moment or a set-piece, I felt, with the way that we were playing.
01:06:39I thought the players in general showed a lot of character, spirit, togetherness in the second half.
01:06:44And unfortunately we couldn't quite get the goal to really unnerve it.
01:06:48Xavi has been, you know, I'm so pleased for him.
01:06:51Really, really so pleased for him because he's been working very hard on the training pitch in the gym.
01:06:56He's a 24-7 pro. He's so determined. He won it so badly.
01:06:58And actually I think he's been on a good run, you know, close to be decisive.
01:07:02And today an assist and a goal very good.
01:07:05Well, not only has Xavi Simmonds been working incredibly hard,
01:07:08he's also making a huge difference for Tottenham.
01:07:12Does that surprise you, Danny, in terms of those numbers?
01:07:14It does when I saw these numbers, yeah.
01:07:15And I think it will surprise a few Spurs fans.
01:07:17The two biggest things there are the wins and the points per game with him in the team compared to when he doesn't.
01:07:22I think today he looked full of confidence. The whole team looked more confident for some reason.
01:07:26There was an energy about him and a dynamism.
01:07:29There's been a lot of talk. Great ball out from Bentancur as well about them playing too safe and not being creative enough at home.
01:07:34But Simmonds was buzzing around. And this example here is brilliant because we've seen him come to feet a lot and try and get in those pockets.
01:07:43This we haven't seen enough of from him. And also when you do run him behind, have you got the legs to get in there and beat the defender?
01:07:49The manager there is talking about him working really hard in training. He looks stronger. He looks fitter.
01:07:55That's a brilliant pass as well. Put it on a plate for Richarlison.
01:07:59I think I mentioned for Archie Gray as well. He was incredible and put himself about.
01:08:04But this is one part of Simmonds' game where we haven't seen enough of that, winning the ball back.
01:08:09And you need that when you're playing Thomas Frank's team.
01:08:11To keep going there and have the strength to hold people off and get the finish.
01:08:14Then his confidence was up. Tottenham enjoyed themselves.
01:08:16They started expressing themselves more and they needed this hugely.
01:08:20And little things like this, the ball comes, he doesn't think, just puts into a lovely, dangerous area.
01:08:25Whereas in recent times when he's played, sometimes he's overthinking, playing short, playing wide, not taking the risk.
01:08:31And again, we see the energy and the fitness. This is what we're talking about.
01:08:35Because if you're playing that ten role and more attacking, you've got to do this part of it as well.
01:08:39So he'll be delighted. It's hugely important that he started playing to this level.
01:08:44Definitely his best game in the Tottenhamshire. Great news for Tottenham.
01:08:48Yeah, and they're doing incredibly well, certainly when he performs well.
01:08:52And that's borne out by the numbers.
01:08:54Now, Newcastle's new chief executive David Hopkinson said this week that he wants them to be the top club in the world by 2030.
01:09:01But in terms of league position, they're not even the top club in the North East right now.
01:09:05Opponents Burnley had lost their last five and Tom Gale was at St James's Park.
01:09:09Eddie Howe wants greater consistency, which essentially means more wins.
01:09:16One of six changes is a fierce Newcastle Premier League start at St James's Park for Jacob Ramsey.
01:09:21£55 million, Johan Wisse, not yet fully fit, could make his debut off the bench.
01:09:28Scott Parker's confidence. A big result is just around the corner for Burnley.
01:09:33Martin Dubravka faces the club he left in the summer, having spent seven years on Tyneside.
01:09:37Armando Broyer is preferred to the joint top goalscorer, Zean Fleming.
01:09:44Cullen's headed only as far as Burnley.
01:09:48Willock, Gordon, opens up and hits the post!
01:09:57Newcastle supporters watching on were growing impatient with this move.
01:10:02It eventually ends up in a wicked effort from Anthony Gordon.
01:10:05Burn, Gordon's made the run.
01:10:12Actal comes across, concedes a corner.
01:10:17Newcastle's first of the game as we tick towards the half-hour mark.
01:10:27Difficult one which has gone all the way in!
01:10:29Newcastle United's captain scores in back-to-back games to give Eddie Howe's men the breakthrough.
01:10:45The Bravka can only watch on in despair.
01:10:50And you have to appreciate the Tekkers from the Brazilian here.
01:10:54Newcastle have it. Gordon.
01:10:56Nalanga's made the run.
01:10:59And he's found, what a pass, and is he caught?
01:11:02The referee with a decision to make here.
01:11:06And it is a red card for the Brazilian.
01:11:10And this is quickly unravelling for Burnley.
01:11:16First touch takes him away from the Burnley man.
01:11:20And the contact then comes.
01:11:22Gordon up against Walker, who's on a yellow card.
01:11:31Gordon's cross.
01:11:33Vultimada got a touch.
01:11:34Kimarais is appealing for handball.
01:11:38The Brazilian is adamant that this needs to be reviewed.
01:11:41VAR will be taking a look.
01:11:48And we're checking for a possible penalty as Burnley come forward.
01:11:54And the decision from the VAR is to recommend that Stuart Atwell goes over to the monitor.
01:12:01Because of this.
01:12:03Vultimada and Ugachuk where it is.
01:12:06His arms are certainly out in front and not in a natural position.
01:12:12So let's hear what the decision is.
01:12:15After review, Burnley number eight handles the ball.
01:12:25It has got worse in first half stoppage time for Burnley.
01:12:30And they could be a further goal behind if Anthony Gordon is able to put away the second spot kick in the space of five days.
01:12:44Gordon to make it two.
01:12:48Sends his former teammate the wrong way.
01:12:53And Eddie Howe's men have a firm grip of this game after a shaky start.
01:12:59Anthony Gordon converts what is his sixth goal of the season to make it Newcastle two.
01:13:08Burnley nil.
01:13:09Come in.
01:13:12Comes infield.
01:13:14Guy Marais shifts it to Hall.
01:13:16Crowd want Hall to shoot.
01:13:19Gordon won't need further invitation!
01:13:21And he rattles the crossbar.
01:13:23They are certainly knocking very hard on the Burnley door here.
01:13:33Anthony faints.
01:13:35Goes back at Livramento.
01:13:37Gets a touch and it will be a Burnley corner.
01:13:40Anthony's ball in.
01:13:43Met by Fleming.
01:13:45And eventually up falls to Joe Worrell who can't hit the target.
01:13:53The VAR are having a look at a possible penalty here.
01:14:00And the referee for the second time in this game is being sent over to the monitor.
01:14:06There is clear movement there from Ramsey towards the ball.
01:14:10After review, Newcastle 4-1 deliberately handles the ball.
01:14:19This denies a promising attack.
01:14:22My final decision is penalty kick and yellow card.
01:14:27Fleming against Ramsdale.
01:14:29Can he secure Burnley a consolation?
01:14:33Yes, he can.
01:14:37High school composure from Zean Fleming.
01:14:42Scott Parker will feel as though it's more than what their efforts have deserved here this afternoon at St. James' Park.
01:14:49Newcastle have an unfortunate knack of conceding stoppage time goals this season.
01:14:54Dubravka.
01:14:59Esteve challenging, met by Chao.
01:15:02Edwards.
01:15:04Crosses a good one!
01:15:06And somehow no one in Claret is able to connect.
01:15:11And Newcastle hang on.
01:15:15It was a bizarre ending to the game because we looked like we were home at 2-0 with minimal time left in the game.
01:15:22But one goal can always change things with a 2-0 scoreline.
01:15:26The penalty happens and then the extra man advantage in that last minute of the game goes out the window.
01:15:32Because you've got to see that bit out.
01:15:35We didn't do it well enough.
01:15:36They had a chance to score and we're very thankful to win.
01:15:39Incredible performance.
01:15:41Absolutely incredible performance from us, really.
01:15:42So, yeah, I mean, you know, to say that was probably our best performance of the year, really.
01:15:48A lot of learning has been done over the course of this year for us.
01:15:52And today, like I said, the dynamics of how the game panned out.
01:15:56There was some hammer blows for us, but a group of men there that I'm immensely proud of, really.
01:16:02Unbelievable goal, to be fair, one of my beautiful goals ever.
01:16:08So, yeah, I'm very happy with training these during the week.
01:16:11So, yeah, I'm glad that we went in.
01:16:14So, unbelievable, very good goal.
01:16:15Dean, there wasn't a game in which either side necessarily put on their best performance.
01:16:22No, no.
01:16:23But Bruno was a real bright spot.
01:16:25Yeah, he's like a serial performer for Newcastle.
01:16:29He just seems to, I don't know, he likes the pressure.
01:16:33He's a skipper, he takes everything on his shoulders.
01:16:37He's a cultured footballer, you know, his awareness of way to pass and everything just seems to revolve around him.
01:16:44And Volta Mila there should have really got himself on the score sheet.
01:16:47That with his swinger, what we call his swinger.
01:16:50His bad foot.
01:16:51That's his good foot outside of the right boot.
01:16:53So, he's trying everything in order to get his team over the line.
01:16:57I mean, he ran the most today.
01:17:00Six changes for Newcastle in total.
01:17:03He gets his goal at the end, fortunately, from a corner.
01:17:05I mean, he should never be able to score from a corner in the Premier League.
01:17:0820th time that's happened in the Premier League.
01:17:10Yeah, yes.
01:17:11Been going a long time though.
01:17:12But if there was a spark, it's him.
01:17:15And he's done it many, many times before.
01:17:17They play Leverkusen on Wednesday, but they've got the derby against Sunderland next weekend.
01:17:23So, this sets them up nicely.
01:17:25Yeah, and incredible there's only one point between the two of them in the table at the moment.
01:17:29So, all to play for in that game.
01:17:31Now, Chelsea were looking to bounce back from defeat at Leeds against a Bournemouth side who'd picked up just one point from five games.
01:17:39Mark Scott was at the Vitality Stadium.
01:17:41Bournemouth's bad run has seen them slip from second to 14th.
01:17:48And when asked if the Cherries were fighting for Europe or against relegation,
01:17:51Antoni Iraiola said it's a bit of both.
01:17:54Already without Cook and Christie, the suspension of Tyler Adams today means Iraiola has to improvise in midfield.
01:18:00And he's made four changes to the team compared to Tuesday as Zanesi, Smith, Tavernier and Evan Nielsen come in.
01:18:07Chelsea's team is six different from the one at Leeds, the headline being a first start since September for Cole Palmer.
01:18:14James, Fafana, Gusto Garnaccio and Neto are also in.
01:18:20It's Diakite, Adam Smith.
01:18:25It's a handy pass.
01:18:27Clivert onto it.
01:18:28Evan Nielsen waiting, good interception that from Chalabar.
01:18:33Alex Scott.
01:18:34Oh, lovely pass Evan Nielsen, poor touch.
01:18:39Semenya still there.
01:18:41Bournemouth in front.
01:18:45Antoine Semenya ends his drought with an unerring finish to give Bournemouth the early lead.
01:18:52Too much time and space on the ball here for Alex Scott.
01:18:56Evan Nielsen may have just been offside, they'll have to check it.
01:18:59And while he fluffed his lines, Antoine Semenya certainly didn't.
01:19:05Well, I have a feeling that Evan Nielsen might be offside here.
01:19:10The goal is not going to stand.
01:19:13Evan Nielsen was in an offside position and it's a reprieve for Chelsea.
01:19:18Not the flying start, he thought they were off to.
01:19:27Palmer in room here for Chelsea.
01:19:33Out to Petro Neto.
01:19:35Neto's delivery towards Cucurea!
01:19:37First bit of quality that we've seen from Chelsea this afternoon.
01:19:44Good ball and Cucurea couldn't make the most of it.
01:19:48Well, Lewis Cook amongst the Bournemouth players absent today.
01:19:53Tyler Adams also missing, big blows for Bournemouth.
01:19:57Semenya off Chalapar for a Bournemouth corner.
01:20:03The wind has really got up at the vitality which could make this tricky for Robert Sanchez to deal with.
01:20:11In it goes from Scott and Sanchez gets a fist to it.
01:20:14Worked back wide by Tavernier.
01:20:19There's something going on in the area which Chelsea aren't happy about.
01:20:22And Michael Oliver has given the free kick Chelsea's way.
01:20:28Awkward landing for Liam Dillap here after he and Sanessi were involved in a bit of wrestling.
01:20:35Word is that they're suspecting it might be a dislocated shoulder for Liam Dillap.
01:20:39So Mark Yu is on rather than João Pedro, which is interesting.
01:20:50Kluiver.
01:20:55Semenya.
01:20:58Anton Semenya!
01:21:00Oh!
01:21:02Great save initially by Sanchez.
01:21:04And then Eva Nielsen couldn't tuck away the rebound.
01:21:07Then it's a top-draw save from Robert Sanchez.
01:21:11And it just came too quickly for Eva Nielsen to slot home the loose ball.
01:21:17Kukereya.
01:21:20Behind Parma.
01:21:22Chelsea's passing has been atrocious in the first half.
01:21:25Bournemouth could be away here.
01:21:27It's Kluiver up against Chalapar.
01:21:29Tried to tickle it through to Eva Nielsen, but then on an oomph on the pass.
01:21:32One back though by Alex Scott.
01:21:36Bournemouth pressing.
01:21:37Alex Scott driving, Sanchez saving.
01:21:42Bournemouth hitting half-time on top and very much knocking at the door.
01:21:47At the door.
01:21:55Neto.
01:21:57Opens up for Petro Neto.
01:21:59Smart stop from Petrovic.
01:22:01And the former Chelsea man, Georgia Petrovic, keeping his old boys out here.
01:22:05Enzo Fernandes further wide to Neto.
01:22:13Neto loops it in.
01:22:14Garnaccio's waiting!
01:22:15And he's got his effort onto the post, I think.
01:22:19Excellent delivery from Pedro Neto and his fellow winger Garnaccio on the end of it.
01:22:23Chelsea almost in front against the run of play.
01:22:30It's been another disjointed away performance from Chelsea, but one that they might emerge with a point from.
01:22:37Semenyo.
01:22:39And Semenyo fisted away by Sanchez.
01:22:42That pop certainly packed a punch from Antoine Semenyo and it was fisted away by Robert Sanchez.
01:22:53Ciaopetro gives up there.
01:22:55Estevão as well.
01:22:56Pedro Neto in the middle.
01:22:57Towards him!
01:22:59And he couldn't get the touch.
01:23:01But it's inviting from Ciaopetro this.
01:23:04Pedro Neto made the right run.
01:23:07But he just couldn't get there in time.
01:23:10Not had much to shout about this afternoon, those travelling fans.
01:23:14It is going to be a much better result than the one that they saw at Leeds.
01:23:19I think we lack a bit quality in the last third.
01:23:23Last pass.
01:23:25Shoot.
01:23:27But we said many times that when you are not able to win, it's important that we don't lose.
01:23:33We take the point.
01:23:34I'm pleased with the performance.
01:23:35I think we played a really solid game.
01:23:37Probably we were the team closest to score and we had the most clear chances.
01:23:44But it's true that you have to value the point.
01:23:46Because we were facing a very good team and any transition they can score also.
01:23:51The point is not a lot, one point.
01:23:53But in this moment we have to take it.
01:23:55Yeah, both managers relatively happy to take the point after what it was a game that will not live long in the memory.
01:24:03No.
01:24:04From Chelsea's point of view, they've followed a really good week with a not so good four days.
01:24:09Did we maybe get a bit carried away with them?
01:24:11I think so, but why not?
01:24:14That's why we love football, innit?
01:24:15We get carried away with good performances and good young players.
01:24:18But the inevitability is that when you don't have senior players and more experienced players, you're going to get extremes of performances.
01:24:24We've seen it earlier in the season when they've lost games at the bridge and then beat good teams.
01:24:30I just think senior players help you in moments such at Leeds when to slow the game down, when to get compact, when to use the dark arts.
01:24:39When, you know, all those little things that somebody, we had Gary Mack at Liverpool and Di Marman, people like that, but they're still exciting to watch.
01:24:46They've got lots of things to look forward to at Chelsea and they could still have a really productive season.
01:24:51Mareska said that he needs a number nine, Dion.
01:24:56We saw Liam De Lappe going off and that looked bad for him.
01:25:00These are the sort of options that they have.
01:25:02They've paid money for these players and Chelsea are scoring goals, but not their forwards.
01:25:07No, and you can look at all those numbers, but there's only one that matters.
01:25:11And it's the goals and it's, you know, four goals.
01:25:14It's just not good enough.
01:25:15You need to do more.
01:25:16If that's your job, then do that.
01:25:18Obviously, you need to do other things within the game.
01:25:20But if you're signed as that number nine, whether you've got the nine or not, score the goals and you'll keep the shirt.
01:25:28Let's take a look then at the Premier League table and how that looks at the end of almost all of this weekend's games.
01:25:34Manchester City moved to within two points of the leaders.
01:25:37Arsenal, the smallest gap between the clubs after a completed round of fixtures since the opening weekend.
01:25:43Aston Villa are a point further back.
01:25:45Everton climb to fifth and Tottenham move into the top half.
01:25:49Burnley's sixth consecutive defeat leaves them five points from safety.
01:25:53Leeds United overtake Nottingham Forest to go into 16th place.
01:25:57Thank you very much to these two kings.
01:26:01It's been a good day for Phil Golden and Thomas Frankincense.
01:26:05But Arsenal had a myrrh.
01:26:07Had a myrrh.
01:26:09Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
