00:00:00Oh, what a goal!
00:00:02Oh, what a goal!
00:00:04Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:06Rudy Alcott!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Good evening. Five games on the way on a busy Sunday in the Premier League before we head into the international break.
00:00:56Danny Murphy and Joe Hart are here with us, and we start at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
00:01:01Everton taking on Crystal Palace, the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League,
00:01:06currently on the longest stretch of games without defeat in their 120-year history.
00:01:11Simon Brotherton is your commentator.
00:01:14It's two weeks short of six months since Crystal Palace last lost a match,
00:01:19but this is the first of what is to become quite a regular Thursday-Sunday post-European adventure routine.
00:01:25Everton, for their part, remain unbeaten in their new stadium.
00:01:29Tyler Dibbling makes his first Premier League start since moving to Merseyside from Southampton during the summer,
00:01:35and Tierno Barry also plays as Everton make two changes, with Kiernan Dewsbury Hall suspended and Beto dropped to the bench.
00:01:42Crystal Palace are unchanged from last week's win over Liverpool, and 9 of today's 11 also started the 2-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv in Poland on Thursday.
00:01:52Tyrik Mitchell and Ismail Assar are the two exceptions.
00:01:55Here's Munoz.
00:01:59Just stayed in as well by the slenderest of margins.
00:02:05It's a Palace throw.
00:02:07Here comes a long one from Chris Richards.
00:02:13In towards Lacroix and gets his head on it, doesn't fall, and the shot, good save by Pickford.
00:02:21Mateta going for it on the follow-up.
00:02:26Richards throw.
00:02:27Lacroix gets there first with the header, and as it bounces down,
00:02:31falls at the feet of Mark Gay, and brings the save from Pickford.
00:02:35What a job he's done.
00:02:37Oliver Glasner, Palace officially, the seventh-best record in the Premier League since his arrival.
00:02:42Pino looking for Mitchell, O'Brien chasing back.
00:02:46Mateta in the centre.
00:02:48Sar heads to the far post!
00:02:50Oh!
00:02:51And Mitchell wasn't far away.
00:02:55Really good effort.
00:02:56He absolutely leathered it.
00:02:58It may have just skimmed the outside of the post on the way in.
00:03:03David Moyes there, who's led Everton to their best start in four years.
00:03:11Lunoz.
00:03:12Wharton.
00:03:13Now Sarr.
00:03:14This looks promising for Palace.
00:03:15The ball into Mateta.
00:03:16Takes it in his stride!
00:03:17Good save!
00:03:19Best move of the match.
00:03:21Lovely play from Crystal Palace.
00:03:23And a decent save from the Everton and England goalkeeper.
00:03:28Greenish.
00:03:33Greenish.
00:03:38Garner.
00:03:39Decent ball in.
00:03:40Could be a chance.
00:03:41Stretching for it was Barry.
00:03:44That's the best attack from Everton in the opening 35 minutes of the game.
00:03:49It just bounced away from the outstretched leg of the Everton striker, Tierno Barry.
00:03:56Everton up against the joint meanest defence so far in the Premier League.
00:04:00Crystal Palace have only conceded three goals.
00:04:02Along with Arsenal.
00:04:06Here's Pino.
00:04:08Beautifully done.
00:04:09It's Mila Sarr.
00:04:10Alarm bells have been ringing for Everton here.
00:04:13As Munoz comes in.
00:04:141-0.
00:04:16Pickford came out.
00:04:18And just as on Thursday in the Conference League.
00:04:21It's Daniel Munoz.
00:04:22Who puts Crystal Palace ahead.
00:04:24And on the balance of the play in this first half.
00:04:28You can't say that Crystal Palace don't deserve it.
00:04:31It was well worked and beautifully taken.
00:04:34And again, Jeremy Pino really pieces together Crystal Palace's play in so many ways.
00:04:38Sarr picked his moment perfectly.
00:04:42And Munoz able to sweep it past the forward rushing Jordan Pickford.
00:04:49Jack Grealish.
00:04:57Hangs in the air and the header is at Henderson who really parries it away.
00:05:05Jake O'Brien with an early opportunity.
00:05:08Just pushed away by Dean Henderson in the Crystal Palace goal.
00:05:15I should think David Moyes will be feeling a little bit happier with the way his team are playing at the moment.
00:05:19They've certainly started the second half well.
00:05:24Everton have only lost one of the last 12 at home in the league before today.
00:05:29Work to do and it could get worse for them here with Jean-Philippe Mateta.
00:05:33Clean through.
00:05:34Big header away by O'Brien.
00:05:35That was a chance.
00:05:39Crystal Palace threatening a second goal with Mateta.
00:05:43Important header away by Jake O'Brien.
00:05:46Right place at the right time.
00:05:48Mitchell.
00:05:49Pino.
00:05:50Palace on the front foot.
00:05:54What a pass.
00:05:55Ismail Assar.
00:05:56He's round Pickford.
00:05:58And still.
00:05:59And he can't find a way in.
00:06:01And Mateta.
00:06:02Puts it wide under pressure.
00:06:03Puts it wide under pressure.
00:06:07Chances coming and going for Crystal Palace in the last few minutes.
00:06:12Everton survive and it's still a one goal game.
00:06:15That's a lovely pass from Jeremy Pino.
00:06:17Mateta just screwed the shot wide of the post.
00:06:23That's how close it was to 2-0.
00:06:27Well they'll be hoping that that sort of moment doesn't come back to bite them later on.
00:06:32That's Mikulenko challenging for it.
00:06:36Hustling.
00:06:37Hustling.
00:06:38It's Alcaraz for Everton.
00:06:40Flying save from Henderson.
00:06:42Excellent effort from Alcaraz.
00:06:47To ignite the home crowd and almost get Everton back in the game.
00:06:50Well I'm sure he can still see a route back to getting something from this game.
00:06:56All the while that it's 1-0.
00:06:58Crystal Palace maintaining their lead in this second half.
00:07:02But certainly being made to work harder for it now.
00:07:07As Everton go in search of an equaliser.
00:07:10Beto will chase.
00:07:12Down under the challenge of Lacroix.
00:07:14Goes wide.
00:07:15It's a penalty.
00:07:17And Everton do have a route back into the match now.
00:07:20Maxence Lacroix stretched out.
00:07:24And clattered into Tim Erogbunum.
00:07:27He certainly doesn't get the ball.
00:07:30And referee Michael Salisbury quick to point to the penalty spot.
00:07:34And Everton with the chance to draw level here.
00:07:39Willerman and Jai with a chance for a third goal of the season.
00:07:43Big moment.
00:07:45And Jai against Henderson.
00:07:47And it's 1-1.
00:07:48No doubt about it.
00:07:51That's a beautifully taken penalty.
00:07:54Calm and confident.
00:07:57And suddenly the Hill Dickinson Stadium is loud and very, very noisy and animated.
00:08:02And David Moy's team are well and truly back in the game.
00:08:09And suddenly it's got a different feel to it.
00:08:12Everton 1, Crystal Palace 1.
00:08:14Here at Booneham.
00:08:15Nikolenko.
00:08:16Sting taken out of the cross.
00:08:17This is Alcaraz into Eliman and Jai.
00:08:18There's a chance.
00:08:19Oh, what a save by Henderson.
00:08:20It's in.
00:08:21It's in.
00:08:22It's in.
00:08:23Jack Grealish.
00:08:24It's in.
00:08:25Jack Grealish.
00:08:26With his first Everton goal.
00:08:27It added time.
00:08:28And he lifts the roof off this shiny new stadium.
00:08:29What a comeback.
00:08:31Oliver Glashner.
00:08:32Can't believe it.
00:08:33It's in.
00:08:34It's in.
00:08:37It's side.
00:08:38And it lifts the roof off this shiny new stadium.
00:08:42What a comeback.
00:08:51Oliver Glashner.
00:08:52Can't believe it.
00:08:54His team played so well.
00:08:55For so long.
00:08:56But Everton have been putting the pressure on increasingly.
00:08:58The impetus has been with them.
00:09:00with them the longer the game has gone on they fought and fought and in added time
00:09:06Henderson with the initial save Munoz spinning and clearing and Grealish's left foot deflecting
00:09:13the ball home it's Everton two Crystal Palace one well what a difference in the mood to that
00:09:21at half time around the ground among the home fans who were very disgruntled with what they've
00:09:26seen not so now 60 70 minutes and fantastic performance of Crystal Palace so playing very
00:09:37well creating chances and just we were not deficient enough and also not to to blame anybody this can
00:09:43happen and then we made one mistake so we don't make many mistakes in our defense we wait one they
00:09:48got a penalty and then it was an open game and then it was okay who gets the lucky punch and
00:09:53takes it and then today it was Everton yeah and it's worth to accept it it could have been three
00:09:57down you know we hung in we kept defending it even though we weren't we weren't great but we played
00:10:02much better in the second half and and we were worthy of of maybe getting it but not if you look
00:10:07at it as I said they could have had a couple other goals it was good man um you know just nice to score
00:10:13light on and uh yeah to do to score my first goal you know here to do it here was um incredible
00:10:20you're enjoying yourself aren't you yeah no I'm loving it honestly um I don't know I don't even
00:10:25know what it is just waking up and going to training every day and with these guys is a great feeling
00:10:31and um yeah to have that love back and the smile on my face I think you all see him when I scored
00:10:35yeah it was just brilliant we will talk about Jack Grealish as he said it was a it was a brilliant
00:10:40particularly second half performance but the difference and we should also point out how good
00:10:45Crystal Palace were in the in the first half of this game but the difference between Everton from the
00:10:49first half to the second half was so marked by pretty much every measure they weren't just
00:10:55improved they were massively improved so what do you think the the difference was what changed Joe
00:11:00mindset personnel I think Palace credit to them Danny they were excellent weren't they in the first half
00:11:06they had so much energy but they just looked a little bit tired from their you know midweek excursions
00:11:11and and Everton as David Moyes say they hung in there and then their quality shone through in the end
00:11:15it was such a good second half performance from from Everton but what did they need to to fix from the
00:11:21first well I think it was the changes you know he made the call he took Beto out the team from Monday night
00:11:26he looked like he had a difficult game Barry starting up front just not quite the presence that David Moyes
00:11:31was looking for in a like we say Crystal Palace were excellent in the first half excellent and they did they've got
00:11:36very few chances Barry trying to link up there just couldn't really give an option and it ended up hiding behind
00:11:42Palace's back three the this was one of his opportunities in the first half where he managed
00:11:46to get through one-on-one but a fresh gay here in the first half just literally had this situation
00:11:50under control Barry didn't really stand a chance and fair play to David Moyes you know he took him
00:11:55out the team but he's realized at halftime I need Beto in my team I need him pushing making as much
00:12:00problems as he possibly can early on Pickford's got the option he sees Beto we all know Pickford's
00:12:05capable of getting that in over the top he doesn't take it with him stretching the defense
00:12:10that just brings that main man into the game Jack Grealish a little bit of time Beto making
00:12:14that second run just making it difficult look of course that's a ball to no one they want Beto in
00:12:18the middle right there but it was just encouraging signs Grealish is quoted he thought he thought
00:12:24Wharton was excellent he thought he was absolutely running the show this is a senior pro saying look
00:12:28young man as good as you are I'm not going to let you settle you're getting it and that's Jack
00:12:32Grealish at his best Alcaraz another half time change flying through this was late on in the
00:12:38in the second half first opportunity Dean Henderson making an excellent save in Brunham he came on
00:12:44Michael Keane struggling and they decided to make a positive move it was really important they got
00:12:48back into the game but it's more runs off the front man Beto posting it up making it difficult
00:12:53a tired challenge absolute bonus that is for Everton they couldn't believe their luck having survived two
00:12:59early chances in that second half here we see Beto again and they've gone this stadium went from being
00:13:04ready to go Palace had two really good opportunities at 1-0 and this is just winning a corner at 1-0
00:13:10revving it up this is what you want to be in a 50 odd thousand seat stadium that's how you want to feel
00:13:14Jack Grealish like I said to you before he just he just built into the into the game and as they got
00:13:20more tired Munoz you don't see this happening this is a man who's absolutely shattered he's had a tough
00:13:25week greedy saying get off creating more chances and the pressure started to build started to build
00:13:31and die linking with Alcatraz as he goes over the top beautiful ball into the middle incredible header
00:13:37from Beto would have rounded it up but how can you begrudge this man finishing a tough week no doubt
00:13:43about it excellent finish so pleased for him yeah Alcatraz got them out of jail
00:13:47I realized that one do you know what oh god when when you when you're struggling a bit you need
00:13:53your best players to get on the ball and be brave and he is a top player and you can see the difference
00:13:58in the second half so many more touches in the dangerous areas of the pitch he was strong he was
00:14:03fit he looks happy he's playing with a with a strut that we've seen him play with before and what
00:14:08happens is that's infectious to those around him I mean I've got to give him the eye a mention as well
00:14:12he's terrific but Jack Grealish playing at this level will catch the eye of the England manager
00:14:17at some point I know he's probably waited to see if he can keep the levels up but when he's looking
00:14:22as strong as he is now and as brave as he is on the ball then it's it's pretty inevitable really
00:14:27and when his when his numbers are pretty much where they were last season off 20 games and he's only
00:14:32played seven now as Danny said six games in and maybe Thomas Tuchel is thinking all right let's see if
00:14:37he can sustain this but he's going to catch his eye at some stage if he does manage to to continue in
00:14:42this vein. Do you know what you can tell in the way he interviews and the way he's behaving that's
00:14:45a bonus for him he's just really happy to get that joy back get that love of football back and we all
00:14:50know Jack Grealish is at his best when he's happy when he's enjoying it when he's the main man and
00:14:54like I say it was a great feeling to see him score that goal you saw that relief that excitement
00:14:57how can you like I say how can you begrudge a man playing like that. What about Crystal Palace as
00:15:02you said Danny they started so well in that game probably had a good 70 minutes in in that game
00:15:07but is it just the exertions of Europe is it the fact that they they don't have the biggest squad
00:15:13to choose from in fact they've made the fewest changes along with Burnley in the Premier League
00:15:16so far this season. That's the key is because they've had to basically play the same 10-11 players
00:15:21for a few a good while now and Joe and I were talking about it after the games and if you're not
00:15:28used to it especially yeah it's not just the games it's the mental preparation it's the travel
00:15:32and we did see in the latter stages again I thought maybe some changes earlier for Palace
00:15:37might have helped but they have done amazingly well they they had some great moments in the
00:15:42game and to be honest with you Kel there was a spell in the second half they had a couple of
00:15:46chances could have put the game to bed and the manager was pleased with the performance he knows
00:15:49there's some tired legs out there there's lots of positive things for Palace to take on into the next
00:15:54few weeks. We've got four more games on the way after September's goal of the month.
00:16:02What a way to score your first Premier League goal at the Vitality Stadium.
00:16:32Garnaccio running at Hickey well the shot comes in from Caicedo and he hammers Chelsea in front
00:16:50where it's pretty difficult to hit the football more sweetly than that just the sheer precision and power
00:16:57it is Anton Stack that is a banger we have to appreciate the power and the accuracy this ball stays hit
00:17:18he has just smashed that into the roof of the net like a striker in his pop
00:17:25He has just smashed that into the roof of the net like a striker in his pop
00:17:32He has just smashed that into the roof of the net like a striker in his pop
00:17:39He has just smashed that into the roof of the net like a striker in the top of the net like a striker in his pop
00:17:46Here's the boost of the net like a striker in his pop
00:17:47Here's a useful
00:17:50Martinelli!
00:17:52Oh!
00:17:52Magnificent from Martinelli to level it for Arsenal late on.
00:18:05The Emirates Syrox.
00:18:15Henderson looks long.
00:18:17The flag momentarily has stayed down.
00:18:19It's Igor Thiago.
00:18:20It's in.
00:18:20It's a brilliant ball.
00:18:24Crashed it home.
00:18:26It's most famous goal for Brentford yet.
00:18:34Good news.
00:18:35The ball is still in play as the two wrestle for it.
00:18:39It's still in play.
00:18:40And it's Noah Okafor.
00:18:42And it's Aronson.
00:18:43Great block by Sinesi.
00:18:45And Longstaff.
00:18:462-1 leads.
00:18:482-1.
00:18:482-1.
00:18:492-1.
00:18:492-1.
00:18:51It's controlled that beautifully.
00:18:53And it nearly took the roof off.
00:18:55And you can vote right now using the QR code on the screen or you can go to the BBC Sport website or app.
00:19:04The vote closes at 11.30.
00:19:06We'll give you the results at the end of the show.
00:19:08And full terms and privacy notice are on the website.
00:19:11Ange Postacoglu was still searching for his first win in charge of Nottingham Forest when he took his side to Newcastle.
00:19:18Stephen Wyeth was at St. James' Park.
00:19:19European commitments in midweek were kind on one, cruel on the other.
00:19:27Newcastle go again with the side that started their record Champions League win in Belgium.
00:19:31Anthony Alanga faces the club he left in July and Nick Voltamata tries to score for a third game in a row.
00:19:37Forest's defeat by Michelin was their fourth in 26 days since Ange Postacoglu's arrival.
00:19:43He responds with full Premier League debuts for Giacuna and Niccolò Savona and a 100th for Ryan Yates.
00:19:51Chris Wood is recalled to face his old team.
00:19:55Both these sides have only won once in the Premier League this season, such as perceptions.
00:19:59That seems alarming for Nottingham Forest, or less so for Newcastle United.
00:20:07Gibbs White has given it away to Byrne.
00:20:10Gordon.
00:20:14Assesses his options, spots Trippier arriving.
00:20:17Joel Linton!
00:20:19Either side of Matt Sells and this might have been awkward for the Forest goalkeeper.
00:20:25He was able to react sharply.
00:20:27And this is four weeks in, and we're already talking about how he's retained the faith of the club hierarchy,
00:20:34but that pressure is intensifying.
00:20:37Time is not something you get under the spotlight of the Premier League.
00:20:42Alanga.
00:20:43Swaps, passes with Gordon.
00:20:50He delivers a cross, it heads right back in his direction.
00:20:55Will be a corner.
00:20:57After a glance between the officials, to determine exactly what they thought had happened there.
00:21:03And Newcastle have done the early probing.
00:21:06And Trippier can whip in a corner.
00:21:10And from Trippier.
00:21:12Deep one.
00:21:14And that's a sensational save.
00:21:17Joel Linton testing Matt Sells with the fingertips to claw the ball aside.
00:21:23And Newcastle wearing black armbands today in memory of their Fairs Cup winning goalkeeper and former manager,
00:21:31Willie McFour, who's found at the age of 82.
00:21:36Gordon.
00:21:37Morato, oh, it's just gifted in to Valtanana, and then recovers.
00:21:44Oh, this is as good an opportunity that has come the way of a striker so far today.
00:21:51What was Morato thinking?
00:21:54A tepid clearance followed up with a brave reaction to get his body in the way of the shot.
00:22:00Here comes Endoy.
00:22:08There's chance of Forrest to threaten in the second half.
00:22:11Williams.
00:22:12It's a shot away.
00:22:18No drama for Pope.
00:22:21Oh, Newcastle really in this second half, but still nothing to show for it.
00:22:28Oh, brilliantly won back, and Newcastle looked threatening.
00:22:32Bruno Gimoresh.
00:22:33Oh, it's a stunner.
00:22:35A moment of individual brilliance when Newcastle required it most.
00:22:43And on an afternoon when Forrest have defended so robustly,
00:22:48something from long range has finally breached their result.
00:22:55But Forrest think perhaps foul by Bruno Gimoresh on Morgan Gibbs-White in the build-up.
00:23:02That has immediately been brushed aside by the VAR.
00:23:07A special goal has Newcastle in front.
00:23:10A second of the season for Bruno Gimoresh.
00:23:13Newcastle lead Nottingham Forrest 1-0.
00:23:17Is there any case whatsoever for a foul there by Bruno Gimoresh on Morgan Gibbs-White?
00:23:24Forrest think so.
00:23:26Crucially, the officials, neither in real time nor with the benefit of a replay,
00:23:30agreed with them.
00:23:33Trippier.
00:23:34Tonali.
00:23:38Backpedalling.
00:23:39Sells comes up with the save.
00:23:40It would have been a quite remarkable second Newcastle goal.
00:23:50Tonali.
00:23:52Headed down.
00:23:53And Volta Marder off the underside of the bar, but not crucially over the line.
00:24:01Volta Marder cannot believe he hasn't scored for a third game in a row.
00:24:09Sensational skill.
00:24:10Here comes Hudson-Odoi.
00:24:15He's made up a huge amount of ground.
00:24:18Callum Hudson-Odoi.
00:24:21And then deep inroads into Newcastle territory.
00:24:25Other choices were available to Callum Hudson-Odoi.
00:24:28And perhaps better options were available to the shot.
00:24:30Straight in Nick Pope.
00:24:31Joel Linton.
00:24:35Murphy.
00:24:36Great cross.
00:24:37Somehow Sells comes up with a save.
00:24:42Seems certain to become 2-0.
00:24:49Murphy again.
00:24:51What a pass.
00:24:52And once again, Matt Sells is there to repel the effort from Harvey Barnes.
00:24:59If Nottingham Forest get anything out of the game today,
00:25:03it is their goalkeeper who will deserve an awful lot of the credit.
00:25:07Two opportunities to put it beyond doubt.
00:25:11Still 1-0.
00:25:13And Newcastle could be in the clear.
00:25:151-0.
00:25:171-0.
00:25:22Anderson caught in possession and then lunging in.
00:25:26And the foul on Brunaghi Maresh has resulted in a penalty.
00:25:31So much talk about Elliot Anderson's return to St James' Park,
00:25:35but his contribution to the game that he will be remembered for
00:25:39may well be that.
00:25:41The perfect chance on Newcastle to ease themselves
00:25:46towards just a second Premier League win of the season.
00:25:49Nick Voltemada.
00:25:52It's an outstanding penalty.
00:25:56Daylight between Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
00:26:01And make a note, Les Ferdinand, 1995.
00:26:05Alan Shearer, 1996.
00:26:07And Nick Voltemada in 2025.
00:26:10All scoring in each of their first three Premier League home games for Newcastle.
00:26:15Right into the top corner to make it Newcastle United 2, Nottingham Forest 0.
00:26:23We had to work very hard and I think patience was key today.
00:26:26First half was sort of minimal goal-mouth action,
00:26:28but I thought we were the better team.
00:26:30Certainly expressed ourselves a lot better, I think, in the second half
00:26:33and deservedly won the game.
00:26:34I've been practising a lot in the week
00:26:36and when I have seen the space, I thought, why not?
00:26:39So I get a shot, unbelievable goal,
00:26:42very happy, massive moment for myself as well.
00:26:45So, yeah, I have to keep going, but I'm very happy for today.
00:26:48Nottingham Forest think there might have been a foul.
00:26:50How did you interpret your challenge on Morgan?
00:26:52It was never a foul, to be fair.
00:26:55Football is about contact, but I'm sure I touched the ball before.
00:27:00I touched the ball for Dunbarna and after I had the contact,
00:27:02but this is never a foul, never, never.
00:27:04Seven games in the 26 days since you took over.
00:27:07It's been a rollercoaster.
00:27:08You'd have known that was going to be a challenge,
00:27:10even bigger challenge than you anticipated?
00:27:12No, not really.
00:27:13I knew it was a big challenge walking in and that's what it is
00:27:16and there's nothing wrong with that.
00:27:17I mean, I don't get why people kind of think
00:27:21that this is something that, you know, is a burden in any way.
00:27:25I love a challenge.
00:27:26The alternative is that I wouldn't, you know,
00:27:28be sitting at home watching the game
00:27:29and I don't want to do that.
00:27:30I want to be in the middle of it.
00:27:31So that's where I am and the belief I had
00:27:33and the confidence I had going into the job
00:27:34hasn't wavered it one bit.
00:27:36Yeah, we haven't got the results in this period,
00:27:38but not through the lack of effort from the players
00:27:40or, you know, the lack of commitment
00:27:42to a different style of football,
00:27:44all those things are there.
00:27:45We've just got to get the results now
00:27:46and we've got two weeks to get that right.
00:27:48It was a challenge for Nottingham Forest,
00:27:50but they also came up against Nick Voltemard.
00:27:52Now, when a legend of the game like Karl-Heinz Rummenigga
00:27:55comes out and says that they found an idiot in Newcastle
00:27:57who is willing to pay £69 million
00:27:59for someone who hadn't shown consistently
00:28:02that he could deliver,
00:28:03it might be polite to listen.
00:28:05However, this season, and we saw there,
00:28:09that he's now scored in three home games.
00:28:10He's along the likes of Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand.
00:28:14When we see the number that he's putting
00:28:15and the performances that he's putting in this season,
00:28:18he might yet prove worth that money.
00:28:21I think he will.
00:28:22He's got a great mentality.
00:28:23He's calm.
00:28:24He's composed.
00:28:25I love his interviews.
00:28:26He's taken it all in his stride.
00:28:28He looks comfortable.
00:28:29I love his moustache.
00:28:31He's got style.
00:28:32I love his hair.
00:28:33Walter Muzzy.
00:28:35Most importantly, from a footballing perspective,
00:28:37which we're going to see now,
00:28:39he's got such intelligence.
00:28:41He links the play beautifully.
00:28:44He seems to always make the right decisions
00:28:45when it's one such,
00:28:46when to take it in and protect it.
00:28:48And what I like most about him,
00:28:50see here, he wants the ball in the box.
00:28:52Put it in for me.
00:28:53It didn't come this time,
00:28:54but he's always in between the 18-yard box.
00:28:56Lovely little touch.
00:28:57That awareness of players around him,
00:28:59which is great for Newcastle
00:29:00because they've got so much pace around him.
00:29:03And he's got strength.
00:29:04Today, I don't think he gave one ball away,
00:29:07which for a striker is incredible.
00:29:09The more the game went on in the second half
00:29:11when Newcastle were pushing,
00:29:13the better he got.
00:29:14He got himself in some good positions.
00:29:15He'll be disappointed here.
00:29:16I think he'll be a bit lucky for that one to fall to him.
00:29:19And he lashed at it a little bit.
00:29:21But the strength here.
00:29:22I mean, he's up against the likes of Morata and Milenkovic.
00:29:25And they can't get through him.
00:29:26He's enjoying the battle.
00:29:27He's enjoying the fight.
00:29:29And then he's quick with his pass forward there
00:29:32to get the team on the front foot.
00:29:33And these little moments,
00:29:34when the ball goes in,
00:29:35that awareness,
00:29:36that little touch,
00:29:37it just sets the team off for attacks.
00:29:39And it's a great example for young players
00:29:42that when you play as a striker,
00:29:43so not only keep your position,
00:29:45but make sure you have pride in keeping the ball
00:29:47and making sure your team can build up.
00:29:49This one,
00:29:50great little effort outside of the foot,
00:29:51underside of the bar.
00:29:52He's probably thinking,
00:29:53it's not my day.
00:29:55And then,
00:29:56of course,
00:29:56as the game goes on,
00:29:57he gets the penalty
00:29:58and takes responsibility.
00:29:59And what about that,
00:30:00Joe,
00:30:00for the penalty?
00:30:01I mean,
00:30:01no keepers getting that.
00:30:02I absolutely love it.
00:30:03I love it to stand there and look him in the eyes
00:30:05and say,
00:30:05what are you going to do,
00:30:06mate?
00:30:06And to just rip it into the top corner.
00:30:08Brilliant.
00:30:09Absolutely no clues given in the approach to that thing.
00:30:13Look,
00:30:13it was fantastic from Valtemar.
00:30:15His numbers against Nottingham Forest were fantastic.
00:30:18Well,
00:30:18there's that Passanac you were talking to you about,
00:30:20which is incredible for a front man.
00:30:21Big chances as well,
00:30:22three.
00:30:24When you play well and you're reliable,
00:30:27but you're also a goal threat,
00:30:28that's all you want.
00:30:29There's nobody in Newcastle at the moment
00:30:32who's talking about Isak anymore,
00:30:33and that's credit to him.
00:30:35What about Nottingham Forest
00:30:37and their results under Ange Postacoglu so far?
00:30:40Because we can look at this game
00:30:41and we can look at the difference
00:30:42between the first half and the second half.
00:30:44And part of that,
00:30:45obviously,
00:30:46is Newcastle's improved performance
00:30:48in the second half.
00:30:49But all of Forest's numbers were down
00:30:52in the second half of that game,
00:30:54which led to an XG of 0.23
00:30:56in the second 45 minutes.
00:30:58On its own,
00:30:59at St James' Park,
00:31:00that might be all right.
00:31:01But when you take it in the context
00:31:03of results under Ange Postacoglu
00:31:05in the league,
00:31:06Forest fans might be justifiably
00:31:08getting a little bit nervous
00:31:10about what the future holds
00:31:12because there hasn't been a win yet.
00:31:15With your experience of playing under him
00:31:16at Celtic,
00:31:17can you give them some reassurance?
00:31:20Well, I can.
00:31:20One thing I can say,
00:31:22you know,
00:31:22it's going to be difficult coming in
00:31:23mid-season,
00:31:24but I don't feel sorry for him.
00:31:25Of course I don't,
00:31:26because he knew the job.
00:31:27You know,
00:31:27he knows what he's doing.
00:31:29He's very much said that in his interview.
00:31:30But when he came in at Celtic,
00:31:32you know,
00:31:32we were three wins
00:31:34from our first six games
00:31:35and the pressure was mounting,
00:31:36you know.
00:31:37There was a lot of pressure
00:31:38from outside.
00:31:38A lot of people
00:31:39probably wanted him out of Celtic
00:31:41at that point.
00:31:42And we had a moment
00:31:43away at Livingston.
00:31:44We lost 1-0,
00:31:4595% away crowd in the stadium
00:31:47and the pressure was on.
00:31:49But we got in that dressing room
00:31:51and we kind of looked at him
00:31:52thinking,
00:31:52are we going to change things?
00:31:53And he doubled down.
00:31:54He said,
00:31:54look,
00:31:54this is how I want us to play.
00:31:55It's going to be tough.
00:31:56We're going to go through rocky times.
00:31:57Trust in me.
00:31:58We did trust in him.
00:32:00Three titles later.
00:32:01I'm not saying they're going to win the league,
00:32:02but you've got to give,
00:32:03you've got to give a manager a time,
00:32:04especially midway through the season.
00:32:05And you imagine that is the talk
00:32:07he'll be having with Evangelos Maranacos
00:32:09when they do meet later on this week.
00:32:11To Villa Park next,
00:32:12Burnley the visitors
00:32:13yet to gain any points away from home
00:32:15so far this season.
00:32:17Your commentator is James Fieldon.
00:32:20Villa,
00:32:20welcome back.
00:32:21Emi Martinez,
00:32:22after he pulled out of their game
00:32:23of Feyenoord with a calf injury.
00:32:25There were recalls
00:32:26for Luca Dina and Lamar Bogard
00:32:27while Daniel Marlin
00:32:29replaces the in-form Emi Buendia.
00:32:31Burnley defender
00:32:32Hjalmar Ekdahl
00:32:33isn't injured
00:32:33but is omitted from their squad.
00:32:35So former Villa defender
00:32:36of three loan spells
00:32:37Axel Tuunzebi
00:32:38comes in
00:32:38for his first league appearance.
00:32:41Jadon Anthony
00:32:41has four goals
00:32:42in his last five games
00:32:43and Harry Kane
00:32:44is the only Englishman
00:32:45to have scored more than him
00:32:46across Europe's top tiers.
00:32:55Cash
00:32:55Marlin
00:32:57helps it on here to Rodgers
00:33:01Morgan Rodgers
00:33:02deflected
00:33:03and narrowly wide.
00:33:07Well, he's certainly had his critics
00:33:08in the last few weeks
00:33:09Morgan Rodgers
00:33:10career-best 14 goals
00:33:12in all competitions
00:33:13last season for him.
00:33:15Couldn't get his first
00:33:16of the campaign there.
00:33:17Free header!
00:33:21Great save by Dubralca
00:33:23and Esri Konza denied.
00:33:27Well, so many of his Villa goals
00:33:29have come here at home
00:33:30eight of ten all told
00:33:31and he nearly added another there.
00:33:35Unai Emery
00:33:36has won all five
00:33:37of his games against Burnley.
00:33:38He only has a better
00:33:39100% record against Fulham.
00:33:41Eight out of eight
00:33:42against the Cottagers.
00:33:44Watkins
00:33:44Rodgers
00:33:46quick release
00:33:47Cameron
00:33:48Marlin
00:33:49straight through the middle
00:33:50Daniel Marlin
00:33:51with a chance here for Villa
00:33:52a step there
00:33:53winning
00:33:54but Marlin scores!
00:33:59Oh, how he needed that!
00:34:01He's looked so isolated
00:34:03at times
00:34:03when he started
00:34:04on his own for Villa
00:34:05and Cameron
00:34:06takes big credit
00:34:07for the assist as well.
00:34:10Daniel Marlin's
00:34:10three goals
00:34:11for Aston Villa
00:34:12came in back-to-back matches
00:34:13towards the end
00:34:14of last season.
00:34:15That's his first
00:34:16of this term
00:34:16and he took it so well
00:34:18but Burnley split apart
00:34:20not great for a side
00:34:22of three centre-halves
00:34:23and Marlin looked confident.
00:34:26Lovely reverse there
00:34:27across to Brauka.
00:34:29Aston Villa one
00:34:29Burnley nil.
00:34:32Kyle Walker with this throw
00:34:33Foster
00:34:34Burnley gaining
00:34:3620 yards up the field.
00:34:37Every team seems to have
00:34:43a long throw taker
00:34:44these days
00:34:44but
00:34:44nothing new with
00:34:46Kyle Walker
00:34:46he's always had it
00:34:47in his locker.
00:34:49Back out here to Cullen
00:34:50who strikes it sweetly
00:34:51and Martinez
00:34:52with a top stop.
00:34:54Not too many people
00:34:55were expecting him
00:34:55to be in goal today.
00:34:58Showed smart reflexes
00:34:59there to get down
00:35:00and touch it behind.
00:35:01It's a tough ask
00:35:02for Burnley now
00:35:03they've failed to win
00:35:04in any of their last
00:35:0430 matches
00:35:05when conceding first
00:35:06in the Premier League.
00:35:07That seems to victory
00:35:08over Watford
00:35:09back in April 2022.
00:35:10Rodgers
00:35:13Diniat galloping up
00:35:15on the overlap
00:35:15McGinn
00:35:16oh it was a nice ball
00:35:18back towards Rodgers
00:35:19who goes down.
00:35:21Referee Andrew Kitchen
00:35:22has a look
00:35:23but doesn't react
00:35:23to the challenge.
00:35:25It was a classic
00:35:26give and go
00:35:27delightful touch
00:35:28there by McGinn
00:35:29and there was a clear
00:35:29pull by Tuunzebic
00:35:30check complete.
00:35:33Michael Oliver
00:35:33the VAR
00:35:34says there was a slight
00:35:35pull on the shirt
00:35:35but it wouldn't
00:35:37warrant a review.
00:35:37Bogart turns away
00:35:41Marlon
00:35:44has the freedom
00:35:46of the Burnley half
00:35:47to do what he wants
00:35:48and he finds Watkins
00:35:49Marlon coming in again
00:35:50Tuunzebic blocks
00:35:52and Rodgers
00:35:53to Brauka
00:35:54to the rescue.
00:35:58Things suddenly
00:35:59look promising
00:36:00there for Villa
00:36:00Watkins
00:36:02with a lovely little
00:36:03touch back
00:36:03towards Marlon
00:36:04Tuunzebic slipped
00:36:06but the goalkeeper
00:36:07was there
00:36:07Concer
00:36:10Watkins drops
00:36:11into the hole
00:36:12Cullen there as well
00:36:15and he clears up again
00:36:16they have Florentino
00:36:20down
00:36:20facing the grass
00:36:22at the moment
00:36:22and they want
00:36:23to stop the game
00:36:23gesturing that
00:36:29the elbow was used
00:36:30only playing with
00:36:3210
00:36:32with Florentino
00:36:33off the field
00:36:33having received treatment
00:36:34Rodgers
00:36:39Rodgers
00:36:39Marlon
00:36:41Marlon
00:36:41a chance for his second
00:36:42a chance for his second
00:36:43which he takes brilliantly
00:36:44a lethal finish
00:36:53from the Dutchman
00:36:53and maybe
00:36:55Villa fans
00:36:56starting to see
00:36:57why they parted
00:36:58with serious cash
00:36:59for him
00:36:59back in the winter
00:37:00Villa so patient
00:37:02but Rodgers
00:37:03in that space
00:37:04that they've had
00:37:05so often
00:37:05this afternoon
00:37:06and Marlon
00:37:07peeling away
00:37:08that's a super finish
00:37:10conveniently
00:37:11time for Daniel Marlon
00:37:13Villa were about
00:37:14to take him off
00:37:14and Marlon
00:37:17rifles home
00:37:18Villa's advantage
00:37:19they're two to the good
00:37:20and on the way
00:37:21to three
00:37:22valuable points
00:37:23Walker
00:37:26giving away
00:37:28to Bogart
00:37:29on one
00:37:30to Cash
00:37:31Matty Cash
00:37:32scored from range
00:37:33recently
00:37:34and he nearly
00:37:35does again
00:37:35Matty Cash
00:37:37scored that
00:37:37screamer
00:37:38at Sunderland
00:37:39a couple of weeks
00:37:40ago
00:37:41and the Holt end
00:37:42urging him to
00:37:42shoot again
00:37:43Dubrowka
00:37:44with another
00:37:44great stop
00:37:45for his side
00:37:46Laurent
00:37:50trying to release
00:37:56Hartman
00:37:56who gets it
00:37:57eventually
00:37:57too far ahead
00:37:59of Jakob
00:37:59Rund Larsson
00:38:00who has gone
00:38:02behind for a corner
00:38:03an unlikely one
00:38:05from a Burnley
00:38:05point of view
00:38:06by Hartman
00:38:12free header
00:38:13and Burnley
00:38:14back in the game
00:38:15Martinez
00:38:17makes
00:38:17and Leslie
00:38:20Ugutukwu
00:38:21has given the
00:38:22Clarence life
00:38:23in this game
00:38:23again
00:38:24well it was a
00:38:26totally free header
00:38:27on the six yard line
00:38:28he probably couldn't
00:38:30believe his luck
00:38:31Martinez
00:38:32I'm sure
00:38:33will be disappointed
00:38:33about how it flew
00:38:34through him as well
00:38:35he's urging his side
00:38:37to get back
00:38:38and get on
00:38:38and get on with
00:38:38the game
00:38:39across
00:38:44Barkley
00:38:45here
00:38:45Dina on the
00:38:47outside
00:38:48Luca Dina
00:38:49Buentia
00:38:53keeping his feet
00:38:55Rodgers
00:38:56Dina
00:38:56flying save
00:38:58by Dubrowka
00:38:59and had that
00:39:00gone in
00:39:01it really would
00:39:01have settled it
00:39:02he's been excellent
00:39:04today
00:39:04Martin Dubrowka
00:39:05has saved his side
00:39:06time and again
00:39:07Guesson
00:39:12and he's giving it
00:39:13away
00:39:13Fleming
00:39:14as Ian Fleming
00:39:17holds off the
00:39:17challenge
00:39:18and it's
00:39:19Guentia down
00:39:20holding his face
00:39:21here
00:39:21and actually
00:39:24with Burnley
00:39:25on the attack
00:39:25and it being a
00:39:26head injury
00:39:26referee Andrew
00:39:27Kitchen feels
00:39:28the need to stop
00:39:29play
00:39:29Ian Fleming
00:39:31did move the
00:39:32arm up into
00:39:33a vertical
00:39:35position
00:39:35but VAR
00:39:37Michael Oliver
00:39:38says everything
00:39:39was okay
00:39:40that was aggressive
00:39:41though from
00:39:41Fleming
00:39:42the game
00:39:44paused for over
00:39:45five minutes
00:39:45in added time
00:39:47as Emi Buentia
00:39:48receives extensive
00:39:49treatment
00:39:50maybe the positive
00:39:51is that he doesn't
00:39:52need the stretcher
00:39:52at the end of it
00:39:53Emi Buentia
00:39:54what is the latest
00:39:55with him
00:39:56hopefully it's not
00:39:57just I finish
00:39:59the match
00:39:59and I show him
00:40:00and he is
00:40:01getting better
00:40:02and for
00:40:03Daniel Marlon
00:40:03today he was
00:40:04playing in the
00:40:05forward line
00:40:05he had lots
00:40:05of support
00:40:06Ollie Watkins
00:40:06and two great
00:40:07finishes from him
00:40:08yes really
00:40:09he talks
00:40:10this challenge
00:40:11himself
00:40:11strongly
00:40:12to help
00:40:14playing the
00:40:15starting eleven
00:40:15as well
00:40:16tactically we
00:40:17tried to get
00:40:18him
00:40:18feeling
00:40:19comfortable
00:40:20in our
00:40:20structure
00:40:20and more
00:40:22close with
00:40:23Watkins
00:40:23close to get
00:40:24the box
00:40:25and he did
00:40:26it and he scored
00:40:26because he's a
00:40:27scorer
00:40:27I think it was
00:40:28a good performance
00:40:28overall
00:40:29first half I
00:40:30think we were
00:40:30really on it
00:40:31second half
00:40:32with stages
00:40:33we were also
00:40:34good so
00:40:34I think we were
00:40:35quite pleased
00:40:36we switched off
00:40:37in certain moments
00:40:38and I think the
00:40:38second goal probably
00:40:39epitomised that really
00:40:40we're down to ten men
00:40:41we've been in games
00:40:42this year and we've
00:40:42been hugely competitive
00:40:43and I think there's a
00:40:44theme at the moment
00:40:45where we're just
00:40:46switching off in certain
00:40:47things and this is a
00:40:48deadly league that you
00:40:48switch off for
00:40:49one second
00:40:51and it can punish you
00:40:52and when I look over
00:40:53the course of the first
00:40:54seven games
00:40:55there's huge elements
00:40:56to what I really really
00:40:57like and there's just
00:40:58little things that we
00:40:59need to fix up on a bit
00:41:00and they came up
00:41:02against Daniel Marlon
00:41:03playing up front
00:41:03in a two
00:41:04with Ollie Watkins
00:41:05they've been trying to
00:41:06get the best out of
00:41:06Ollie Watkins
00:41:07Daniel Marlon wanted
00:41:08to go up there
00:41:09and help
00:41:10he put his case
00:41:10to Unai Emery
00:41:11and he delivered
00:41:12Danny
00:41:12what's going on
00:41:14we've got pairings
00:41:14up front
00:41:15long throwings
00:41:16keep us kicking it
00:41:17long
00:41:18we're going back
00:41:18in time
00:41:19it's amazing
00:41:20bring us back
00:41:21it worked a treat
00:41:23whether it was
00:41:23Marlon or the manager
00:41:24the manager's given
00:41:25the role
00:41:26and it gave
00:41:28Villa Elisa life
00:41:30it helped Watkins
00:41:31perfect
00:41:32Watkins looking to
00:41:33threaten him behind
00:41:34Marlon comes in the
00:41:35space of course
00:41:36because the defenders
00:41:37have to drop off
00:41:38because they're scared
00:41:38of pace
00:41:38this was early in the
00:41:39game
00:41:40and he looked full of
00:41:41beans
00:41:41full of confidence
00:41:42one in the ball
00:41:43constantly making
00:41:44different runs
00:41:45and they ran the
00:41:46Burnley defence
00:41:46ragged the pair of them
00:41:47because they're both
00:41:48obviously quick
00:41:49but they mixed up
00:41:50their games nicely
00:41:50switched sides
00:41:51a lot as well
00:41:52here two options
00:41:53for Kamara there
00:41:55can go left or right
00:41:57defenders not sure
00:41:58which way to go
00:41:58who am I going with
00:41:59and we're so used
00:42:01to seeing players
00:42:01isolated in that
00:42:02forward position
00:42:03and midfielders only
00:42:04having one option
00:42:04or go wide
00:42:05this was so refreshing
00:42:07see it's a brilliant
00:42:07finish and
00:42:08obviously Watkins
00:42:10could have been there
00:42:10for the tapping
00:42:11if he missed it
00:42:11again here
00:42:13you can see this
00:42:14attracting the attention
00:42:15of the centre halves
00:42:17want to get tight
00:42:18defenders naturally
00:42:19want to go in
00:42:20and you see that space
00:42:21where he's left
00:42:21big huge gap
00:42:22you know what
00:42:23Ollie Watkins
00:42:24is going to do
00:42:24he's going to run
00:42:25in there all day
00:42:26and when you get
00:42:27that space
00:42:28and you're a forward
00:42:29with the qualities
00:42:30of Watkins
00:42:30it's going to help
00:42:31you when you've got
00:42:32someone next to you
00:42:33and this is what
00:42:33you want from
00:42:34two front players
00:42:35aware of each
00:42:36other's positions
00:42:36complete unselfishness
00:42:39nice link up
00:42:40Rogers will be
00:42:41disappointed
00:42:41he didn't score
00:42:42and this is the
00:42:44goal I think
00:42:45it's a brilliant finish
00:42:46again look
00:42:47as we freeze it here
00:42:48Burnley have got
00:42:49five in the line
00:42:49but they still
00:42:50can't cope with
00:42:51the two runners
00:42:52in behind
00:42:52nice positions
00:42:54for both of them
00:42:54both passes were on
00:42:55and that
00:42:56is a hell of a finish
00:42:58technically brilliant
00:42:59from a player
00:43:00who really
00:43:01we haven't seen
00:43:03the best of
00:43:03and shouldn't have
00:43:04the confidence
00:43:05to go and score
00:43:06that goal
00:43:07with the limited
00:43:07minutes he's had
00:43:08now he's given
00:43:09Emery a headache
00:43:09but what a great
00:43:10headache to have
00:43:11but he's also
00:43:12helped Emery
00:43:12because that's
00:43:13four wins in a row
00:43:14in all competitions
00:43:15now for Villa
00:43:15after a really
00:43:16tricky start
00:43:17where they couldn't
00:43:18get a goal
00:43:19in any of those
00:43:19games
00:43:19and he's now
00:43:20got to 80 wins
00:43:21quicker than any
00:43:22other Villa manager
00:43:23so we need to put
00:43:24that start to the
00:43:26season in that
00:43:27wider context
00:43:27well I couldn't
00:43:28believe any rumours
00:43:29or murmurs I should
00:43:30say of discontent
00:43:31this guy is a
00:43:32brilliant manager
00:43:33and he would
00:43:34great managers
00:43:35always find a way
00:43:35he's got plenty
00:43:36of talent in the squad
00:43:37it was only a matter
00:43:38of time before
00:43:39they were going to
00:43:39start getting some
00:43:40wins I expect
00:43:41Villa to kick on
00:43:42now
00:43:42what about Burnley
00:43:43no points away
00:43:45or no one away
00:43:45from home just yet
00:43:46we always know
00:43:48that promoted sides
00:43:48are going to rely
00:43:49heavily on their
00:43:50home form so is
00:43:51the away form a
00:43:51concern
00:43:52a little bit
00:43:53but they have
00:43:53had some tough
00:43:54games I think
00:43:54what's pleasing
00:43:55for Scott is the
00:43:56fact that Scott
00:43:57Parker is that
00:43:58they've been in
00:43:58a lot of the
00:43:59games I think
00:43:59at Man United
00:44:00they lost in
00:44:00the last minute
00:44:01they've had late
00:44:02goals conceded
00:44:03in different games
00:44:04they're more
00:44:06competitive than I
00:44:06think most people
00:44:07thought they were
00:44:07going to be
00:44:08they've just got to
00:44:08learn fast though
00:44:09you know with
00:44:09what Scott
00:44:10Parker said at
00:44:10the end
00:44:11you can be in
00:44:12the game all
00:44:12you want you
00:44:13can feel like
00:44:13you're comfortable
00:44:14in the Premier
00:44:14League and then
00:44:15bang it bites you
00:44:15just those
00:44:16concentrations and
00:44:17all that
00:44:18concentration in
00:44:19those moments
00:44:19now Brentford
00:44:21enjoyed their
00:44:22best win of the
00:44:23Keith Andrews era
00:44:24last weekend
00:44:24against Manchester
00:44:25United
00:44:26so next up
00:44:27the visit of
00:44:28Manchester City
00:44:29commentary comes
00:44:29from Steve
00:44:30Wilson
00:44:30a City win
00:44:34one would be
00:44:35one would be
00:44:35Pep Guardiola's
00:44:36250th victory
00:44:37in the Premier
00:44:38League
00:44:38a landmark
00:44:39reached comfortably
00:44:40in record time
00:44:42Keith Andrews
00:44:43makes one change
00:44:44for Brentford
00:44:45that's Aja in
00:44:46for Watara
00:44:46so he's reverting
00:44:48to the back five
00:44:49which served him
00:44:50well here against
00:44:51Chelsea
00:44:51City make three
00:44:53changes to the
00:44:54side which drew
00:44:55in Monaco in
00:44:56midweek
00:44:56Stones
00:44:57Bernardo Silva
00:44:58and Doku
00:44:58replaced by
00:45:00Mathias Nunez
00:45:01Savino
00:45:01and Bob
00:45:03and there will
00:45:05now be silence
00:45:06at Brentford
00:45:06for Chris Ramsey
00:45:07the club's head
00:45:08of academy
00:45:09goalkeeping
00:45:09who passed away
00:45:10on Wednesday
00:45:11aged only 39
00:45:12he will be sadly
00:45:14missed here
00:45:15and also for the
00:45:16victims of the
00:45:17synagogue attack
00:45:18in Manchester
00:45:19the message
00:45:20on City
00:45:21armbands
00:45:22today
00:45:22and on
00:45:23armbands
00:45:23for United
00:45:24yesterday
00:45:25is a
00:45:26City United
00:45:27it's been a
00:45:45very respectable
00:45:46start
00:45:47to his time
00:45:48in charge
00:45:48of Brentford
00:45:49for Keith
00:45:49Andrews
00:45:50very good
00:45:51here
00:45:52they haven't
00:45:53actually taken
00:45:53any points away
00:45:54from here yet
00:45:55this season
00:45:55Harland
00:45:58got in behind
00:45:58Vandenberg
00:45:59they're in
00:45:59trouble here
00:46:00it's 1-0
00:46:01Erling Harland
00:46:04for Manchester
00:46:05City
00:46:05well he wasn't
00:46:07going to miss
00:46:07that
00:46:07not him
00:46:08not Harland
00:46:09not in a
00:46:10month of Sundays
00:46:11just out
00:46:12muscled
00:46:13Vandenberg
00:46:13really
00:46:14who got
00:46:15himself
00:46:15the wrong
00:46:15side
00:46:16and once
00:46:17Erling Harland
00:46:18had got
00:46:19half a metre
00:46:20away from
00:46:20Vandenberg
00:46:21there was only
00:46:22one likely
00:46:22outcome
00:46:23a powerful
00:46:24and precise
00:46:25finish
00:46:25exactly
00:46:26as you
00:46:27would expect
00:46:27continues
00:46:29his run
00:46:29of having
00:46:30scored
00:46:30in every
00:46:30Manchester
00:46:31City
00:46:32away
00:46:32game
00:46:32in which
00:46:33he's
00:46:33played
00:46:33this
00:46:34season
00:46:3412th
00:46:37of the
00:46:37season
00:46:37Manchester
00:46:40City
00:46:40are going to be
00:46:41forced into
00:46:41a change
00:46:42here
00:46:42this
00:46:44is not
00:46:45good news
00:46:46this is a
00:46:47serious
00:46:48blot on the
00:46:49landscape
00:46:49for Manchester
00:46:50City
00:46:50because
00:46:51clearly
00:46:51Rodri
00:46:52is not
00:46:53going to be
00:46:53able to
00:46:54continue
00:46:54don't need
00:46:55me to tell
00:46:56you how much
00:46:57missing
00:46:57Rodri
00:46:57affected them
00:46:58last season
00:46:59people talk
00:47:01about his lack
00:47:02of experience
00:47:02Keith Andrews
00:47:03but he was the
00:47:04assistant manager
00:47:04at the Republic of
00:47:05Ireland
00:47:05and also at
00:47:07Sheffield United
00:47:08before moving to
00:47:09Brentford as
00:47:09set-piece coach
00:47:10Savino for
00:47:15O'Reilly
00:47:16and Reinders
00:47:18arriving
00:47:18really good
00:47:19stop
00:47:19very good
00:47:21save that
00:47:21good effort
00:47:23too by
00:47:23Reinders
00:47:24because that
00:47:24was an
00:47:25awkward one
00:47:26for him
00:47:26when he
00:47:26controlled it
00:47:27beautifully
00:47:28well Hickey's
00:47:36beaten to
00:47:36that
00:47:36Brentford are
00:47:38claiming a
00:47:39foul but I
00:47:39don't think it
00:47:39was for
00:47:40Oscar Bob
00:47:40wriggling
00:47:41nicely away
00:47:42from Collins
00:47:43no penalty
00:47:44says Darren
00:47:45England
00:47:45and Oscar
00:47:46Bob didn't
00:47:47really appeal
00:47:48maybe had a
00:47:49glance in the
00:47:49referee's direction
00:47:50and then go
00:47:51on with it
00:47:51Shada
00:47:52and here is
00:47:54a great chance
00:47:55it's a brilliant
00:47:57save by Donna
00:47:58Ruma
00:47:58Igor Thiago
00:47:59was away
00:48:00suddenly
00:48:01Brentford were
00:48:02saying that
00:48:02Shada had been
00:48:03fouled
00:48:03and suddenly
00:48:04Igor Thiago
00:48:05was off and
00:48:06running
00:48:06but suddenly
00:48:09he's away
00:48:09five goals
00:48:10this season
00:48:10Igor Thiago
00:48:11but he never
00:48:12really threatened
00:48:13to get around
00:48:14Donna Ruma
00:48:15here
00:48:15well it is
00:48:17by a long
00:48:17long way
00:48:18Brentford's
00:48:19best chance
00:48:20of the game
00:48:20and by a
00:48:21long long way
00:48:21he didn't
00:48:22make the most
00:48:22of it
00:48:23City have had
00:48:25a little habit
00:48:26recently of
00:48:26conceding late
00:48:27goals
00:48:27Monaco the
00:48:28most recent
00:48:28example of
00:48:29course
00:48:29they'll hope
00:48:31that by the
00:48:31time we get
00:48:32to the latter
00:48:32stages of
00:48:33this game
00:48:33they're not
00:48:34still just one
00:48:35goal to the
00:48:35good
00:48:36it's a good
00:48:38goal lofted
00:48:39into Shada
00:48:39Ruben Diaz
00:48:40getting across
00:48:41and headed up
00:48:43and over the
00:48:43bar
00:48:44by Coyote
00:48:45very seldom
00:48:48so far in
00:48:49this game
00:48:49if we felt
00:48:50that Brentford
00:48:50are likely
00:48:51to score a
00:48:51goal
00:48:51just beginning
00:48:53to show
00:48:54their teeth
00:48:55a little
00:48:55one direction
00:49:00first half
00:49:00bit more
00:49:01even since
00:49:01the break
00:49:02Matthias
00:49:05Nunez
00:49:06Silva
00:49:12complaining
00:49:12had no
00:49:13real options
00:49:14on ahead
00:49:15of him
00:49:15he had
00:49:15to go
00:49:15back
00:49:16Nunez
00:49:17to
00:49:17Donnarumma
00:49:18oh
00:49:21Donnarumma
00:49:22straight
00:49:24on to
00:49:24Shada
00:49:24and out
00:49:25of play
00:49:25and it's
00:49:28a corner
00:49:29well
00:49:30this is
00:49:31interesting
00:49:31rebounded
00:49:32back
00:49:32on to
00:49:33the
00:49:33Italian
00:49:34who
00:49:35by many
00:49:36people's
00:49:36measure
00:49:37is the
00:49:37best
00:49:37goalkeeper
00:49:38in the
00:49:38world
00:49:38minimum
00:49:45of four
00:49:46added
00:49:46minutes
00:49:47and Donnarumma
00:49:50comes and
00:49:51gets a big
00:49:51right glove
00:49:52on it
00:49:52Brentford
00:49:54have another
00:49:54throw in
00:49:55and it's
00:49:55in
00:49:55Coyote
00:49:57range
00:49:57so we're
00:50:07into the
00:50:08four added
00:50:08in it
00:50:09goes from
00:50:10Coyote
00:50:10up go the
00:50:11heads
00:50:11my four to
00:50:13Janelte
00:50:13didn't quite
00:50:14it's
00:50:14shotter
00:50:15and
00:50:15Hickey
00:50:16Hickey
00:50:18shot
00:50:18his way
00:50:18over the
00:50:19bar
00:50:19there was
00:50:20no deflection
00:50:20there
00:50:21a few
00:50:22shots
00:50:22for hand
00:50:23ball
00:50:23I think
00:50:23it's
00:50:24just to be
00:50:25a natural
00:50:26position for
00:50:26Guardiola
00:50:27which it
00:50:27clearly was
00:50:29and Pep Guardiola
00:50:31has his
00:50:32250th
00:50:33Premier League
00:50:34victory
00:50:34as Manchester
00:50:36City manager
00:50:37Brentford
00:50:370
00:50:38City 1
00:50:39many things
00:50:41I like it
00:50:42I know
00:50:43that
00:50:43there are
00:50:45things that
00:50:45can do
00:50:45better
00:50:46but
00:50:47I make a
00:50:49fantastic
00:50:49first half
00:50:50one of the
00:50:51best
00:50:51since many
00:50:52many months
00:50:52and
00:50:53the problem
00:50:54is in
00:50:54Premier League
00:50:54we're going to
00:50:55score the
00:50:55second and
00:50:55the third
00:50:56always can
00:50:56happen that
00:50:57they push
00:50:57more
00:50:57and yeah
00:50:58we are
00:50:58there
00:50:59and especially
00:50:59our game
00:51:00is better
00:51:00and better
00:51:00and better
00:51:01you've scored
00:51:01a dozen
00:51:02goals now
00:51:02this season
00:51:03I'm wondering
00:51:04where I'd need
00:51:04to put my
00:51:04money
00:51:05Harry Kane
00:51:05or Erling Haaland
00:51:06for the
00:51:06European golden
00:51:08boot
00:51:08could be
00:51:09a few others
00:51:10involved
00:51:10but you're
00:51:10both off
00:51:11to a good
00:51:11start
00:51:11don't forget
00:51:12Kylian as well
00:51:13he had a
00:51:13great start
00:51:14as well
00:51:14so they're
00:51:16doing amazing
00:51:17so I need
00:51:17to try to
00:51:17keep up
00:51:18I felt
00:51:18second half
00:51:19we were
00:51:19a better
00:51:19team
00:51:20I think
00:51:21when you
00:51:21look at
00:51:21the 90
00:51:22minutes
00:51:22one team
00:51:23scored
00:51:24a very good
00:51:25chance
00:51:25that they
00:51:25had
00:51:26we didn't
00:51:26take ours
00:51:27from the
00:51:28second half
00:51:28we grew
00:51:28in confidence
00:51:29and I felt
00:51:30we made it
00:51:31the type
00:51:31of game
00:51:31that we
00:51:32wanted it
00:51:32to be
00:51:32that one
00:51:34big chance
00:51:34that they
00:51:34had
00:51:35when
00:51:35Igor
00:51:35Thiago
00:51:36is away
00:51:36as a
00:51:36centre
00:51:37forward
00:51:37you're
00:51:38one-on-one
00:51:38with
00:51:39Donnarumma
00:51:39is it
00:51:39a little
00:51:40bit
00:51:40different
00:51:40from being
00:51:41one-on-one
00:51:41with
00:51:41somebody
00:51:42else
00:51:42yeah
00:51:43it's
00:51:43definitely
00:51:44and
00:51:44he's
00:51:45so
00:51:45big
00:51:45and
00:51:46he's
00:51:46the
00:51:46best
00:51:47keeper
00:51:47in the
00:51:47world
00:51:47he just
00:51:48got
00:51:48the
00:51:49trophy
00:51:49at
00:51:49the
00:51:49ballon
00:51:50though
00:51:50so
00:51:50knowing
00:51:52that
00:51:52you're
00:51:53against
00:51:53the
00:51:53biggest
00:51:53keeper
00:51:55in
00:51:55the
00:51:55world
00:51:55is
00:51:55of course
00:51:55motivation
00:51:56but
00:51:56it's
00:51:56also
00:51:57more
00:51:58difficult
00:51:58task
00:51:58even
00:52:00as the
00:52:00best
00:52:00keeper
00:52:01in
00:52:01the
00:52:01world
00:52:01it
00:52:01wasn't
00:52:02necessarily
00:52:02a
00:52:03brilliant
00:52:03performance
00:52:03for him
00:52:04there wasn't
00:52:04that much
00:52:04required
00:52:05for him
00:52:05in this
00:52:06game
00:52:06today
00:52:06but
00:52:07does
00:52:08he
00:52:08bring
00:52:08a
00:52:08presence
00:52:09to
00:52:09Manchester
00:52:10City
00:52:10in
00:52:11goal
00:52:11yeah
00:52:12I think
00:52:12he does
00:52:13we've
00:52:13just
00:52:13looked at
00:52:13Erling
00:52:13Harland
00:52:14and you
00:52:14look at
00:52:14him
00:52:14in front
00:52:15of
00:52:15goal
00:52:15now
00:52:15and
00:52:15he's
00:52:15just
00:52:16got
00:52:16that
00:52:16aura
00:52:16he
00:52:16looks
00:52:16like
00:52:17he's
00:52:17going
00:52:17to
00:52:17score
00:52:18I
00:52:18think
00:52:18Donnarumma
00:52:19started
00:52:19so
00:52:19well
00:52:20for
00:52:20Manchester
00:52:20City
00:52:20and
00:52:21as
00:52:21Erling
00:52:21touched
00:52:21on
00:52:22there
00:52:22he's
00:52:23definitely
00:52:23got
00:52:23that
00:52:23aura
00:52:23through
00:52:24one-on-one
00:52:24with
00:52:24Igor
00:52:25Thiago
00:52:25here
00:52:26as soon
00:52:26as
00:52:26Gvardiel
00:52:27who barely
00:52:27put a
00:52:28foot wrong
00:52:28today
00:52:28by the
00:52:29way
00:52:29went
00:52:29through
00:52:29he gave
00:52:30it up
00:52:30I just
00:52:31thought
00:52:31there's
00:52:31no way
00:52:31he's
00:52:32scoring
00:52:32there's
00:52:32no way
00:52:33he's
00:52:33getting
00:52:33that
00:52:33out
00:52:33of
00:52:33his
00:52:34feet
00:52:34and
00:52:34getting
00:52:34it
00:52:34past
00:52:34him
00:52:35now
00:52:35a
00:52:35really
00:52:36important
00:52:36message
00:52:36here
00:52:36for
00:52:37any
00:52:37defenders
00:52:37back
00:52:38at home
00:52:38is
00:52:38Nico
00:52:39O'Reilly
00:52:39he could
00:52:40quite easily
00:52:41give that
00:52:41up
00:52:41trot back
00:52:42but no
00:52:42he's
00:52:42going to
00:52:43put the
00:52:43pressure
00:52:43on
00:52:43he's
00:52:44going to
00:52:44heap
00:52:44all the
00:52:45pressure
00:52:45on
00:52:45Igor
00:52:45Thiago
00:52:46running
00:52:47through
00:52:48with
00:52:48Donnarumma
00:52:48as
00:52:49Erling
00:52:50said
00:52:50massive
00:52:51person
00:52:51to
00:52:51beat
00:52:52now
00:52:52this
00:52:53is
00:52:53the
00:52:53moment
00:52:53he's
00:52:53readjusted
00:52:54this
00:52:54is
00:52:54the
00:52:55moment
00:52:55he
00:52:55knows
00:52:55he's
00:52:55got
00:52:56him
00:52:56he
00:52:56just
00:52:56can't
00:52:57quite
00:52:57get

01:02:42as Jan-Paul Van Hecker heads home for Brighton
01:02:45Wolves so close yet again
01:02:48to their first Premier League win of the season
01:02:51but a late Brighton goal
01:02:54has denied them
01:02:55Wolverhampton Wanderers won
01:02:57Brighton and Hove Albion won
01:02:59as Wolves are left to Roo
01:03:02what might have been for the second weekend running
01:03:06First of all I want to apologise
01:03:10what happened with Victor
01:03:11it was a frustration
01:03:14with one thing that happened in the game
01:03:18so nothing that Victor wants to do
01:03:21but he was in one second here
01:03:24nothing against Brighton or the referees
01:03:27it was with our team
01:03:28and first of all I want to apologise
01:03:30because Victor is not like that
01:03:32How difficult was it for you not having the manager
01:03:34in the dugout
01:03:35when instructions were having to be relayed
01:03:37via the assistants?
01:03:38I think it's always difficult for him
01:03:39because when you are on the ground
01:03:41you can easily pass on the information
01:03:42and I think we tried our best to change the system
01:03:45especially the way that they were playing
01:03:46but unfortunately it's part of the game
01:03:48and we just have to keep pushing forward
01:03:50I think we deserve more
01:03:51but as football
01:03:53we have to accept it
01:03:54we have to do better the next time
01:03:56but overall I saw a team that had the belief
01:03:59in the quality
01:04:00the belief that we can always score goals
01:04:02so a lot of positive to take away
01:04:04and of course we can't be happy with the result
01:04:07but we have to keep pushing
01:04:08Wolves made changes defensively throughout the game
01:04:11did that cost them in the end do you think?
01:04:14Yeah I think so
01:04:14they ended up sitting deep
01:04:16they started really well
01:04:16they started in a four
01:04:17and they looked really positive
01:04:19you know
01:04:19they had a good performance at Tottenham last week
01:04:21and as we see them lining up here
01:04:23when they do line up with the four
01:04:24they are able to get on the front foot
01:04:26nice and congested through the middle
01:04:29making it difficult for Brighton to play
01:04:30they look like they're ready to pounce
01:04:32they're high up the pitch
01:04:33always looking for an opportunity
01:04:35can they turn it over
01:04:36and Brighton need to be perfect
01:04:38and they managed to turn it over in this circumstance
01:04:40but there's always bodies around the ball
01:04:42seeing Clip here
01:04:46that four
01:04:47taking that run
01:04:48Ron's trying to get through
01:04:49turning it over early
01:04:50and they're able to get on the front foot again
01:04:52Molyneux at its best
01:04:54when Wolves are on the front foot
01:04:55creating chances
01:04:56Hwang crossing
01:04:57doesn't come to anything here
01:04:58now I mentioned Hwang before
01:05:00this is the second half
01:05:01this is a big moment in the game
01:05:03because this is what prompts the change
01:05:05we've got Bueno playing at right back
01:05:07Rutter and Gruder have decided to double up on him
01:05:09and as the clip just unfolds
01:05:13drops to Rutter
01:05:14incredible save from Sam Johnston
01:05:16straight away
01:05:17Pereira wherever he is in the stadium
01:05:18he said
01:05:19get Agbedou on
01:05:20get Hwang
01:05:20and he's saying
01:05:21are we playing a three mister
01:05:22absolutely not
01:05:24this is a five
01:05:24we're trying to get the one nil win today
01:05:26and there's nothing wrong with that in the Premier League
01:05:28if you believe in your system
01:05:30and you believe in your players
01:05:31alright
01:05:31you're not able to get bodies out
01:05:33but you're going to say
01:05:34you know
01:05:34we're having a tough run
01:05:35we need to get the win
01:05:36we dig in
01:05:37you put big challenges like that
01:05:39now this is what you can't have
01:05:42this is at the end of the game
01:05:44Chachoa
01:05:45communicating with Sam Johnston
01:05:46and straight away
01:05:48Sam Johnston
01:05:48you can see he's not happy
01:05:49could have avoided that
01:05:51but you need to switch on
01:05:52if you're going to play a five
01:05:53not a problem
01:05:53but get switched on
01:05:55fair play to Brighton
01:05:56that was their one opportunity
01:05:57great header
01:05:58don't know who scored it
01:05:59Van Hecker's going to get the praise
01:06:01but Sam Johnston's showing
01:06:02that at the Premier League
01:06:03you can be as defensive as you want
01:06:05but if you switch off for one second
01:06:07you'll get found out
01:06:08and again
01:06:09it costs Wolves
01:06:10a couple of points
01:06:11in this run of form
01:06:13that they're in
01:06:13in which they've only got
01:06:14two points so far
01:06:15in the Premier League
01:06:16when you look at
01:06:17how they started
01:06:18last season
01:06:19under Gary O'Neill
01:06:20that led to him
01:06:21losing his job
01:06:22it's not far off
01:06:24where they are
01:06:25at the moment
01:06:26they've got big games
01:06:27coming up
01:06:27particularly against
01:06:28Sunderland and Burnley
01:06:28and then they've got
01:06:29Fulham away
01:06:31but there's a chance
01:06:31potentially for them
01:06:32to get their first win
01:06:34they will hope
01:06:34they'll have to
01:06:35it's been a disappointing start
01:06:37I think the last two weeks
01:06:38the last two performances
01:06:39sorry in the last week
01:06:40have been much better
01:06:41they've had a lot of new players
01:06:43I actually think today
01:06:45he did the right thing actually
01:06:46because if he'd have gone
01:06:48toe for toe with Brian
01:06:49for the remainder
01:06:49of that second half
01:06:50they could have ended up
01:06:51losing the game
01:06:52I know sometimes fans
01:06:53get a bit pessimistic
01:06:54regarding teams dropping off
01:06:56and defending
01:06:56but well you haven't won
01:06:57for so long
01:06:58it didn't work out
01:06:59but I understood why

01:09:57it's 2-0
01:09:59as routine a win
01:10:00as you're going to get
01:10:01victory for Arsenal
01:10:06in Mikel Arteta's
01:10:07300th game
01:10:08in charge of them
01:10:10and when you look
01:10:11at the comparison
01:10:12with the other managers
01:10:13who are around him
01:10:14the difference
01:10:16between Mikel Arteta
01:10:18and the managers
01:10:19who are above him
01:10:20is very obvious
01:10:21and that's in winning
01:10:22major trophies
01:10:23with the club
01:10:25Danny
01:10:26is this
01:10:26the season
01:10:27given the start
01:10:28that Arsenal have made
01:10:30they're one point clear
01:10:31as we head into
01:10:31the international break
01:10:32I think he's got
01:10:34the best
01:10:35toolkit he's ever had
01:10:37in terms of
01:10:38depth
01:10:38quality
01:10:39in all areas
01:10:40of the pitch
01:10:41they're not concerned
01:10:42now as much
01:10:42defensively
01:10:43with the two centre-halves
01:10:44they've brought in
01:10:45so much talent
01:10:47in attacking areas
01:10:48they've had injuries
01:10:50already
01:10:50and there's been
01:10:51no problem
01:10:52they look strong
01:10:53they look organised
01:10:54they look full of confidence
01:10:56I don't see
01:10:59what excuse
01:11:00they could have
01:11:01for not winning it
01:11:02this time
01:11:02he's got a hell of a chance
01:11:05and they've got to
01:11:06find a way
01:11:06getting over the line
01:11:07otherwise of course
01:11:08the questions will be asked
01:11:09but yeah
01:11:10it's a hell of a squad
01:11:11and they're going to be
01:11:12up there for sure
01:11:13the trophy that they've won
01:11:15is the FA Cup
01:11:15in a partial season
01:11:16in which Mikel Arteta
01:11:17was in charge
01:11:18they've come close
01:11:19so many times
01:11:20as Danny was saying
01:11:21in the Premier League
01:11:22and the phrase
01:11:23winning mentality
01:11:24is one that's
01:11:25overused
01:11:26and probably
01:11:26misunderstood
01:11:28how close can you get
01:11:30to describing
01:11:30what that is
01:11:31Joe
01:11:31in terms of winning
01:11:32a Premier League title
01:11:33it's one of those
01:11:36if you could bottle it
01:11:36and sell it
01:11:37it would be worth
01:11:37you know
01:11:38well
01:11:39it would be priceless
01:11:40it would be priceless
01:11:41but he's put himself
01:11:43in a position
01:11:43I look at him
01:11:44and obviously
01:11:44this is his first job
01:11:46so it's an incredible effort
01:11:47to do what he's doing
01:11:48but for him to be in that company
01:11:49and be
01:11:49sat at the top table
01:11:51he has to follow it up
01:11:52what is that recipe
01:11:53really really difficult
01:11:55it's the hard work
01:11:55it's the dedication
01:11:56he's proven that
01:11:57he's got new ideas
01:11:58Danny talked about
01:11:59the squad that he's assembled
01:12:00but you've got to get
01:12:01over the line
01:12:02and it's in those
01:12:02kind of dark days
01:12:03those dark months
01:12:04those kind of Januaries
01:12:05Februaries
01:12:06those little wins
01:12:07you've got to graft
01:12:08and here is
01:12:10the Premier League table
01:12:11here's how it's shaping up
01:12:12after seven games
01:12:13Arsenal are top
