00:00When we last left Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, they were in hot pursuit of the terrifying AI known as the Entity, which had infiltrated intelligence networks all over the globe.
00:14As we learned in the mid-credits scene of the previous film, the Entity had managed to escape from their grasp after being downloaded into a storage device that was smuggled out of the country by one of the Syndicate members.
00:31Now, with the world's governments and this mysterious ghost from Ethan's past on their trail, the IMF team must find a way to stop the Entity before it's too late.
00:43Let's break down the trailer and see what's coming our way.
00:48To start, we get confirmation that Henry Czerny will be reprising his role as Eugene Kittredge, the former IMF director who we last saw back in 1996's Mission Impossible.
01:03And let me just say, it's about time.
01:08Also, if you look closely at the plot behind him, you can see that it's ticking backwards, suggesting that time is running out.
01:17We then see some footage of Tom Cruise jumping out of an airplane while wearing a parachute.
01:22But there's a twist, because it turns out that he's not actually jumping out of a plane.
01:29Instead, it's a training exercise gone wrong, which leaves him stranded in a forest.
01:36The rest of the IMF team is shown in similar training exercises that also go awry, suggesting that the Entity may have already started to make its presence felt.
01:48In a flashback, we see a younger version of Ethan Hunt, as a recruit at the IMF, receiving a mission briefing from Kittredge himself.
02:00There is a sense of foreboding as Kittredge warns them that they are in the fight of their lives, and that they need to be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.
02:10It's clear that this is not going to be an easy mission, and that the stakes are higher than ever.
02:19We then see Ethan and his team regrouped and briefed on their next mission, but it seems like they're working with someone else.
02:28This new character is played by Pam Clemenco, who is known for her roles in the Netflix series Sex Education and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
02:38In the trailer, she introduces herself as someone who knows the true mastermind behind the recent attacks on the IMF, and offers her help in exchange for immunity.
02:51It's unclear whether or not the team can trust her, but they may not have much of a choice if they want to stop the Entity once and for all.
03:02The team prepares for their mission, and we catch a glimpse of Benji and some other IMF.
03:08Operatives inside a high-tech room filled with computer equipment.
03:14They seem to be tracking something on a large screen in front of them, and the atmosphere is tense as they try to stay one step ahead of their enemies.
03:24The action then shifts to Paris, where Ethan and his team infiltrate a heavily guarded facility, in order to retrieve a mysterious briefcase.
03:36We get some exciting fight choreography as they take on guards and make their way through laser grids and other obstacles.
03:45The Entity seems to be close, and the stakes have never been higher.
03:50In a surprising turn of events, we see a shootout between two helicopters, one of which is piloted by none other than Tom Cruise himself.
04:02It's unclear who's shooting at whom or why, but it's sure to be an intense sequence when the film is released.
04:09Back at the IMF headquarters, someone from within the organization appears to have opened the safe containing the nuclear launch codes, and is making a phone.
04:21Call with intent to use them.
04:24Could it be the Entity, or could there be a mole working with the enemy?
04:29The team infiltrates a high-level party, and we see Hunt and his partner, Luther Stickle, sneak into a room,
04:38where they discover a hidden computer terminal.
04:42They work together to access the system and download information, while avoiding detection from a mysterious woman,
04:49who seems to be the host of the party.
04:53Don Clamenco's character can be seen in the background, watching them intently as they work.
05:00Ethan confronts the mysterious woman, who turns out to be none other than Gabriel Byrne,
05:06the main antagonist from Mission Impossible 2.
05:11She had been hiding in plain sight the whole time, and her motives for helping the Entity remain unclear.
05:19There's a car chase, and we see Ethan, Luther, and another member of the team speeding through the streets,
05:26in a black sports car.
05:27They leave being pursued by several other vehicles, and the chase looks intense as they weave in and out of,
05:35traffic trying to shake their tail.
05:38In a surprising turn of events, we see Tom Cruise,
05:43hanging off the side of a building while holding on to a rope.
05:47It seems like he's trying to scale the side of a skyscraper, but has been spotted,
05:54and is now in danger of being shot by someone on the roof.
05:58Is this part of the mission, or is he just lucky to be alive?
06:03In a tense standoff, we see Ethan holding a gun on someone while standing on top of a train.
06:10The person on the ground is clearly surrendering, but Ethan hesitates before putting his weapon away.
06:18Could this be the mole within the IMF, or is he actually here to help?
06:23In a final showdown, we see the IMF team taking on a large group of enemies in a warehouse.
06:30It looks like they've finally cornered the entity, and are ready to put an end to its reign of terror.
06:39But with so many enemies surrounding them, will they be able to survive the attack,
06:44and shut the AI down for good?

07:50Shee Wiggum, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, and Indira Varma.
07:55Christopher McQuarrie returns to direct, and there's no release date yet,
08:00but it's expected to be summer 2024.
