00:01Well, it's spring here at the Wild Animal Park in the Animal Care Center,
00:04and we've got quite a few babies that have been coming in for various reasons.
00:07Some of the reasons for the babies coming in is sometimes we have moms
00:10that have a little bit of difficulty with birth, they might have a dystocia.
00:13Sometimes we have babies that are sick and the moms can't take care of them
00:16or we can't medicate them in the field, so we bring them in.
00:19And sometimes it's just plain maternal neglect that moms are first-time moms
00:23and they don't know how to take care of them.
00:25Well, to care for these babies, the first thing that we do is when we get them in
00:28is we process them, we give them their numbers so we can keep medical records
00:31accordingly throughout their lifetime, then we get them on colostrum,
00:35which is, of course, the most important milk that the baby can get
00:38because that's where they're going to get their natural resistance and immunities from.
00:42But because mom's not here, we give them a cow's colostrum,
00:45and then after that, we basically, if they have a medical case,
00:48we give them medications and any kind of vet treatments that they need here,
00:52but we just pretend to be their moms.
00:55Yummy.
00:58Well, we've got some Markor babies here today, which is a type of wild goat.
01:01Not real common anymore.
01:03They've lost a lot of their habitat and have had several problems in the wild.
01:07We've also got a different type of a goat.
01:09We've got an ibex, and then we've got several little types.
01:13Oh, right behind me, we've got an ibex.
01:15And then we've got several types of antelope here today.
01:18So that's what we've mainly got.
01:20And we've also got some spring bot.
01:21This is a spring bot season.
01:23So, quite a variety.
01:29Yeah, if you come out to the San Diego Zoo's wild animal park on any day,
01:32you can come over to our nursery corral,
01:34which is different than our petting corral, but it's right next to it.
01:36And you can actually view the babies,
01:38watch them interacting with each other,
01:40and maybe even taking a bottle from a keeper.
