00:00Mm-hmm. Want some?
00:03Oh, no thanks, I can't. I'm on a low-carb diet.
00:08Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:09Whether you're following a keto diet or just counting your carbohydrates,
00:13these foods are going to surprise you with their low-carb counts.
00:16Food's great. Low-carb, high-protein.
00:19It's really the only way to go when your work requires you to be shredded and dieseled out.
00:25Number 10. Fish.
00:30Yes, we understand that fish is a large food category and there are lots of different kinds
00:37out there to choose from. However, lots of them belong on this list. You see, while different
00:42fish provide assorted amounts of calories, fats, proteins, and various vitamins, when it comes
00:46to carbohydrates, many of them have the exact same amount. Zero. Yep, the surprising truth
00:52is that whether we're talking trout, mackerel, salmon, or even anchovies and sardines, not
00:57only are they all low-carb, they are all no-carb.
01:07Number 9. Cream Cheese.
01:09Honey, make me a little bagel with cream cheese. You know I can't think on an empty stomach.
01:15For your information, I'm not even hungry.
01:19Unfortunately, we're not going to also tell you that bagels are super low-carb.
01:22In fact, you're looking at upwards of 50 grams with just one medium-sized bagel. However,
01:27the good news is that one of our favorite bagel accoutrements is surprisingly low in
01:31the carbohydrate department. A one-out serving of cream cheese, while it does add about 100
01:35calories to any meal, only clocks in at a measly 1.56 grams of carbohydrates. You'll
01:41just have to skip the bagel and find something else to put it on. Or, not that we would ever
01:45admit to doing this, just grab a spoon and eat it right out of the container.
01:48Oh, great! The one day I put cream cheese on my bagel!
01:52Number 8. Pork Rinds.
01:53A road-trip staple, pork rinds are a classic grab-and-go snack you'll find at any convenience
01:58store or gas station worth their salt.
02:00It's one of the world's oldest snack foods and dates all the way back to ancient China.
02:05However, while they might be tasty and a perfect munchable while singing classic pop tunes in
02:09the car with your friends, they don't provide much nutritional value. What they do provide is a
02:14good amount of sodium and about 9 grams of protein per 6 rinds. Whatever you call them,
02:19there may be no better snack to reach for as you settle in for the opening whistle.
02:24But when it comes to sugar, fiber, and carbohydrates, pork rinds will add exactly 0 grams of each to
02:29your daily count. Pork rind? Pork rind.
02:33Number 7. Almonds.
02:35You might know that almonds are a healthy snack. They're filled with antioxidants, a solid serving
02:39of magnesium, and an impressive amount of vitamin E. They've even got a fair amount of protein for
02:44their unassuming size. However, if you happen to be calorie counting, this may not be the most
02:49optimal snack. Along with all its benefits, a 1 ounce serving of the nut also contains 164 calories
02:55and 14 grams of fat. For keto diets, on the other hand, those numbers are a worthy trade-off for the
03:00nutritional value and the fact that you'll only be ingesting about 6 grams of carbohydrates from
03:05one ounce of the nuts. Alan, enjoy your almonds. I don't want them.
03:09Number 6. Dark Chocolate.
03:11This is dark chocolate. Yeah.
03:13Comes all the way from Switzerland to Europe. That's near France, see?
03:17Now, we aren't going to sit here and tell you that dark chocolate doesn't have any carbohydrates.
03:22However, when it comes to satisfying any cravings for something sweet, well, you'll probably be
03:26disappointed once again. With that said, there are some out there who really do like dark chocolate as
03:31it is, and this entry is for you. Compared to the likes of milk chocolate or candies, such as gummy
03:36bears, dark chocolate is the lower carb choice. Coming in at around 13 grams of carbs per ounce of
03:4270% to 85%, dark chocolate, compared to 16 plus for milk chocolate and 20 plus for gummy bears,
03:48this is a great dessert alternative for those trying to manage carb intake.
03:52Here you are. Dark chocolate.
03:57Number 5. Eggs.
03:58We don't recommend downing 5 raw eggs in the morning like Rocky Balboa.
04:02Hold on there. Well, we deserve it. We've been getting away with murder for the last couple
04:06of weeks. Our high today could possibly be...
04:08But, while we can tell you that Rocky was risking possible salmonella with his breakfast
04:12routine, he wasn't putting his carbohydrate numbers at risk.
04:15Eggs are a dietary staple for many of us, and it's not just for breakfast anymore either.
04:20So, for those paying close attention to their carb consumption, you'll be happy, and maybe
04:24a little surprised as well, to know that one large egg is only sporting something, like
04:290.5 grams of the stuff.
04:30Well, dig in.
04:32Number 4. Avocado.
04:34Do you like avocados?
04:36They're a fruit, you know.
04:38Before you run out for brunch feeling good about ordering that avocado toast, we have to
04:42say that combining the bread and the avocado is a recipe for a rather large amount of carbohydrates.
04:48Depending on the type of bread, you could be looking at 13 to 18 grams of carbs per slice.
04:52Add that to the 13 grams of carbs for the average medium-sized avocado, and your brunch is starting
04:57to turn into a carb fiesta, but take away the bread, and things start to look reasonable
05:01again. Plus, unlike bread, avocados provide a number of nutrients shown to have various
05:06benefits when incorporated into a healthy diet.
05:08Have some, it's delicious.
05:10Number 3. Steak.
05:12So, for lunch, I would love a 20-ounce porterhouse steak. Medium, maybe a little bit charred.
05:18This probably won't surprise anyone following a ketogenic diet plan, but for the rest of
05:22us, the idea that steak is low-carb might sound shocking.
05:25But not only is meat, and poultry as well, low in carbohydrates, it's basically void
05:30of the stuff.
05:31Now, while meat is high in protein and low in carbs, that doesn't mean you should be
05:34chowing down on it all the time.
05:36There's plenty of evidence that suggests it's best to consume red meat in moderation, as part
05:41of a meal plan rich in vegetables and leaning towards a plant-based diet.
05:44But it's also good to know, that when you do choose meat, you aren't choosing carbs.
05:56Ignorance is bliss.
05:57Number 2. Bacon.
05:59What are you doing?
06:00Tomatoes, sausages, nice crispy bacon.
06:03Everyone knows the saying, bacon makes everything better.
06:05But there's another lesser known saying, because we just came up with it, that state, bacon
06:10adds barely any carbohydrates to a meal, so it really does make everything better.
06:14It doesn't roll off the tongue in quite the same way, but it's at least partly rooted
06:17in fact.
06:18While bacon is pretty high in the caloric and fat numbers, only 1% of the calorie breakdown
06:23comes from carbs.
06:24To put that another way, one medium strip of cooked bacon contains about 0.1 grams.
06:28Yes, that means you can eat 100 strips of bacon and only ingest 10 carbs in the process.
06:34But just to be clear, we don't recommend that.

06:55Butter Butter is nutritious, and it tastes great.
07:00Forget about I can't believe it's not butter.
07:03We can't believe butter doesn't have any carbs.
07:05It also doesn't have any fiber, sugar, or protein, but that's less surprising than the
07:09fact that it is a source of vitamin A, D, and E.
07:13The same tablespoon will also have 12 grams of fat and 102 calories, so the consumption
07:18of this food will really depend on your own personal dietary needs.
07:21For keto requirements, however, you can use this ingredient with confidence, knowing
07:25that you're not adding anything to your daily carb quotient.
07:28Here's my final word on the subject, you can never have too much butter.
07:35Which of these foods can you hardly believe is low or no carb?
07:38Let us know in the comments.
