00:01The head of the Armed Forces, Sir Richard Knighton, has said the UK is not as ready as we need to be for the kind of full-scale conflict we might face.
00:10He made the comments while declining to answer questions about reports of a shortfall in defence spending plans.
00:17Last week, newspapers reported the Ministry of Defence believes it needs an additional £28 billion over the next four years,
00:26prompting a rewrite of the government's defence investment plan.
00:30That plan was due to be published last autumn, but has been delayed.
00:34Appearing before the Parliamentary Defence Committee, Sir Richard said he could not give a publication date.
00:41He said the department was working flat out on it.
