00:00I have three questions that help define whether you are in a functional relationship or not.
00:05The first question, can I afford the minimum repayments?
00:11If you're struggling to make minimum repayments, that's a bad sign.
00:15The second question, excluding mortgage and student loans, do I have more than a year's worth of salary as debt?
00:23So if you earn £30,000 and your debt's £35,000, that's another danger signal.
00:28And the final one, are you having sleepless nights or anxiety or depression over your debts?
00:35If you have answered yes to any of those three things, ignore everything else I have said.
00:42In that case, you need to go to a free non-profit debt counselling agency.
00:48National Debt Line, Citizens Advice, Step Change, or if you're struggling emotionally too, Christians Against Poverty.
00:57They do it because they're Christian. You don't have to be Christian to go and get their help.
01:00Who will do emotional support too?
01:02They are not there to judge you. You are not going to be told off.
01:06What they're going to do is they're going to work through your money and look at alternative solutions like debt management plans or IVAs,
01:12whichever's right for you, on a motive of only helping you.
01:16They can put breathing space in. That means creditors can stop chasing you.
