U.S. and allied forces carried out large-scale strikes against Islamic State targets across Syria on Saturday, US Central Command said. The operation, conducted around 12:30 p.m. local time with partner nations, was launched in response to a deadly ISIS attack last month that killed three Americans.

The strikes were part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, ordered by Donald Trump after an ISIS ambush on December 13 in Palmyra. The attack marked the deadliest incident involving U.S. troops since the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
