The Philadelphia 76ers are being slept on—and that’s exactly why they might be the most dangerous team in the East. 👀 In this video, we break down why the 76ers are a true sleeper team with a real chance to win a championship, despite not getting the same hype as Boston or Milwaukee.
With elite star power, improved depth, and a roster built for playoff basketball, the 76ers check more boxes than people realize. We’ll analyze their matchups in the Eastern Conference, what’s changed from previous seasons, and why this could finally be the year things break right in Philly.

00:00What's up, everybody? My name's Trey, and welcome back to Better Days Sports.
00:05And, well, I don't know if you've been paying attention to the NBA recently,
00:10but the 76ers might be a sneaky team to put a bet on to actually win the championship this year.
00:20And I know what you're thinking.
00:22Embiid's always injured. Paul George is podcast pee.
00:26Maxie hasn't proven himself. McCain's coming off an ACL tear.
00:28We have some moving parts that we might have to adjust and get a little bit better in roster positions.
00:36But if I'm totally honest with you, if the Sixers are healthy, and I know that's a big if we have a lot of old, riddled, injury-prone players,
00:46but if we can stay healthy, I think we have a chance.
00:50And I think we have a very good chance at that.
00:53But before we actually get into this video, if you are new to the channel, if you're new to the podcast,
00:57make sure you hit the subscribe button and notification bell to be notified every time we post a video.
01:01And leave a comment in the comment section down below how you feel about the 76ers.
01:06Because I'm feeling real good about us right now.
01:08I'm not going to lie to you.
01:09I'm feeling real good about us.
01:12Now, let's take a look at something that I think is pretty interesting.
01:16When we look at the modern NBA, outside of one team specifically,
01:20which is the Nuggets, because they arguably have the best big man of all time,
01:24or maybe not best, but most skilled big man of all time,
01:28the NBA, or at least the teams that have won championships,
01:32are very wing and guard heavy.
01:35And a lot of teams do not build through their big men anymore.
01:39Now, the 76ers have been interesting for years,
01:42because we arguably have the second, sometimes the first.
01:46Sometimes it's him versus Jokic.
01:49Sometimes it's him versus his knees.
01:52We have arguably the best big man in the league in Joel Embiid.
01:56And the 76ers just haven't found a way to really build around him
02:00in really any capacity that actually makes sense
02:03outside the one year we really had with Jimmy Butler.
02:06But then we decided to go with Tobias Harris over Jimmy Butler.
02:09But it's the 76ers, so it is what it is.
02:13But essentially, we've had a 7'2 center who's able to score all three levels,
02:18can attack the basket, can be an anchor on defense,
02:21can shoot the three, can handle the ball,
02:22can make plays both offensively and defensively.
02:25We'll dive into the stands after balls
02:27to show that he's putting an effort onto the floor.
02:30And for whatever reason,
02:32we have continuously put non-shooters around Joel Embiid.
02:37Not only that, I mean, we drafted a 6'11 point guard
02:40who refused to shoot the ball in Ben Simmons.
02:42So there's definitely, definitely a lot of things
02:48that we haven't necessarily done well
02:50to make sure that the team has run well.
02:54But, I mean, majority of the moves that we've made,
02:59I'm not going to say I would have done them,
03:01but I can see the reason behind them.
03:03Okay, you got Ben Simmons, number one overall pick.
03:06You thought you had this dynamic duo with him and Joel Embiid.
03:09You bring in Jimmy Butler, you have Tobias Harris,
03:11and you're like, okay, well, as long as Joel Embiid's healthy,
03:14there's no way that this team doesn't match up really well
03:17to the other teams in the East.
03:18And then we make some awful, just like awful draft picks.
03:25Mainly, Marquez Fultz forgets how to shoot the ball,
03:28or maybe he broke his shot,
03:30or he broke his elbow, or his shoulder.
03:32I'm not actually sure.
03:34That doesn't help us.
03:35And we could have drafted so many other people
03:37that really could have done something
03:39and really provided some value to this team.
03:42And for whatever reason,
03:43we either don't evaluate talent well,
03:46or we just have a really hard time pulling the trigger.
03:50But that leads us to this year.
03:52And things are basically the same,
03:57but it feels different.
03:58Hear me out.
03:59So we drafted Vijay Edgecone,
04:01arguably the most athletic player in the draft.
04:04He's shown a lot of upside.
04:06He reminds me a lot of Jimmy Butler.
04:08He's not afraid to guard your best player.
04:09He takes tough shots.
04:11He's hyper-athletic.
04:12He's actually probably gonna make it
04:15all defensive team one day
04:16if he keeps on, you know,
04:17kind of trajectory that he's on,
04:19which is just lock up.
04:21Let me guard you on that guy.
04:23Sit in a chair.
04:24So for that reason,
04:27I like some of our additions kind of coming forward.
04:30I think that we match up well
04:31against other teams in the East currently.
04:35Maxey's on an absolute heater this year.
04:37And I think he's trying to really present himself
04:40as an all-star level player.
04:42And if we can get anything positive out of Paul George,
04:47I will be really happy.
04:49On the contract that he's on,
04:50you would want a lot more,
04:52but it is what it is at this point in time.
04:53Paul George is in declining stages of his career.
04:56If he can just be efficient from the floor,
04:58maybe every now and then,
05:00look like you're a number one option,
05:02but most nights you're gonna be a third option at best.
05:06Hopefully, Embiid can stay healthy.
05:08Maxey's kind of coming into his own.
05:10Vijay's gonna be one of your guards
05:12who's really gonna run the floor,
05:14get some easy transition baskets,
05:16hit some wide open shots.
05:18And then everything else that we need from our team
05:21is just effort coming off the bench.
05:23Jeremy Cain's came back.
05:24He's played well in limited action
05:26coming off his ACL injury.
05:28So, I really think we have the pieces
05:34to make a run this year in an East
05:37that is crippled with injuries kind of just across every team.
05:42Obviously, Halliburton went out.
05:44Jason Tatum's out.
05:45There's a plethora of other role players
05:48that are injured in the East.
05:49And this could really be the year
05:51in which the 76ers really compete against,
05:54I would argue, probably the Knicks
05:57in the Eastern Conference Championship
05:59to actually go to the finals.
06:01And I'm really liking our matchups
06:05in that series specifically
06:07because of what happened last night.
06:09Maxey and Brunson,
06:11I know Maxey's probably not the full compete package
06:13that Brunson is,
06:15but he's giving you a little bit more on defense.
06:17And it seems like for the most part,
06:18they can kind of counteract each other
06:20and zero each other out for the most part.
06:24The place in which I think
06:27we're gonna really struggle
06:28against the Knicks specifically
06:29if we play them,
06:31like I said,
06:31this is what I kind of see
06:33for the future of the 76ers
06:34going through the finals
06:35is having to beat the Knicks.
06:37And it's gonna be at the guard positions.
06:39Vijay is athletic.
06:40He's a very solid defender,
06:42but he's undersized for OG,
06:45for Bridges,
06:46for Clarkson.
06:50I mean, the Knicks now have depth.
06:54They have size.
06:55They're not totally reliant
06:56on Brunson and Cat
06:58to put up 40 apiece.
07:00Not only that,
07:02Cat is a player
07:03that definitely can get frustrated,
07:04especially if the opposing big man
07:07is scoring points.
07:08And that's something that Embiid
07:09has prided himself on.
07:11He will get you buckets
07:12if he's healthy and playing.
07:15If he's healthy and playing.
07:17If we're actually looking at the standards,
07:19however,
07:20so look,
07:21Detroit is up top.
07:22Cool young team coming into the prime.
07:24They have Cade coming in.
07:25He's trying to really become
07:27that like all-star point guard.
07:30And especially in a kind of transitioning league
07:32to really big guards,
07:34Cade is kind of manning that front end
07:36when it comes to big end guards.
07:38I mean,
07:38really making a name for themselves.
07:40So the Pistons,
07:40look,
07:42they look good.
07:43Not gonna lie to you.
07:44New York is up there
07:45as we expected.
07:46They play hard,
07:47nine in,
07:47nine out.
07:48And this is probably
07:49one of the best Knicks teams
07:51I've seen in a very long time
07:52who actually think that they can
07:53compete for a championship.
07:55Boston
07:56is just a well-coached team
07:59with a lot of talent.
08:00Sure,
08:00there's superstars out,
08:01but Jalen Brown,
08:02arguably,
08:03is still an all-star level player.
08:05I mean,
08:06he
08:06did win a finals MVP.
08:10So,
08:10is Jason Tatum your best player?
08:12Is Jalen Brown your best player?
08:13The Celtics are definitely still there.
08:15And with
08:15Jason Tatum
08:17possibly coming back into the lineup,
08:18I think that could be
08:19something really interesting
08:20to see
08:21how they kind of work together
08:22and what
08:23his offensive package
08:24looks like
08:25coming off
08:26that Achilles injury.
08:28Now,
08:28he
08:29at no point
08:31really,
08:31in my opinion,
08:32was the most athletic person
08:33in the league.
08:34He wasn't gonna,
08:35you know,
08:35absolutely look down at the rim
08:37and just throw dunks down
08:38on big men
08:39or anything like that.
08:39But that explosiveness,
08:41that lateral quickness
08:42is still
08:43a big part of his game
08:44on step backs
08:45and being able to beat
08:46his defender
08:48off the dribble.
08:48So,
08:49it's gonna be interesting
08:49to see what he looks like
08:50when he comes back.
08:50But then,
08:52outside of that,
08:53we have Toronto
08:54and then the 76ers.
08:57And,
08:57look,
08:58Toronto,
08:59I like you
09:00a lot.
09:01I think you should make
09:01one more move
09:02and that's probably trading
09:03for LaMelo.
09:04I'm just throwing that
09:05out there now.
09:06I think you really have
09:07a team that could compete.
09:08You have a lot of good wings.
09:09Ingram's coming on
09:10on his own
09:11and it's really
09:12kind of becoming
09:13his team
09:14in terms of like,
09:15we know that he's gonna be
09:16taking the last shot
09:17regardless of who's
09:18on the floor with him.
09:19So,
09:20I think the 76ers
09:23went healthy.
09:24They are
09:25probably the third
09:26best team
09:27in the East
09:27as of right now.
09:29Maybe a few things
09:30that we need to touch up on
09:31when it comes to our
09:32roster construction
09:33and just overall
09:34like play calling
09:34of when
09:36Joel Embiid
09:37is not in the game.
09:38We need to be pushing
09:39the ball.
09:39We need to be scoring
09:40in transition.
09:41But if he is
09:42in the game
09:44we need to be running
09:45our entire offense
09:46through Joel Embiid
09:46in half court.
09:48Sure,
09:48it makes it slow
09:48and monotonous
09:49but that's where Maxie
09:50really has to
09:51step up
09:52and control
09:53the pace
09:53of the game.
09:54I think
09:54one really
09:56underrated
09:57siding
09:57that we could
09:57possibly go after
09:58would be
10:00siding Chris Paul.
10:01Just a veteran
10:02leader that can
10:02come in
10:03kind of coach
10:04the young guys
10:05and really show
10:06Maxie
10:07what it means
10:08to be a floor
10:08general
10:08not just a scorer
10:10who happens
10:10to play point guard.
10:11And then one thing
10:12when it comes
10:12to like roster
10:13construction
10:13I think
10:14Jarrett McCain
10:16might be
10:17a potential
10:19trade piece
10:20that the 76ers
10:21can use
10:22to get them
10:22one more piece
10:23that could potentially
10:23put them over the top.
10:25Now the reason
10:26why I say that
10:26is we are just
10:28so guard
10:28dominant right now
10:29with Vijay
10:31Maxie
10:32Kelly Oubre
10:33Jarrett McCain
10:34Eric Gordon
10:35I mean I don't even
10:36know why he's on
10:36the roster anymore
10:37but it is what it is
10:38and we still
10:39got Kyle Lowry
10:39so we have
10:41we have so many
10:42guards
10:43and Jarrett
10:45when he gets
10:46a lot of playing
10:46time when he's
10:47in that starting
10:48role or he gets
10:48heavy minutes
10:49off the bench
10:49he's shown to
10:50be really productive
10:51so maybe sending
10:52him to a team
10:52that's younger
10:53that's really
10:54trying to develop
10:54their players
10:55that we might
10:55be able to
10:56get a real
10:56piece for
10:57I would even
10:58look at
10:58man could you
11:01give him to
11:01the Brooklyn Nets
11:02and maybe get
11:03Michael Porter Jr
11:04and maybe have
11:05to give up
11:06a pick or two
11:07I would actually
11:08really like that
11:09you can have
11:10him play
11:10that two
11:13guard spot
11:14alongside
11:14Paul George
11:15or Vijay
11:17and bring
11:17either Michael
11:18Porter Jr
11:18or Paul George
11:20off the bench
11:20and really run
11:21that second unit
11:21if they're open
11:22to it
11:23if not
11:23I wouldn't
11:24mind a
11:25Chris Paul
11:26signing
11:27Chris Paul
11:28Vijay
11:29you have
11:30some people
11:31off the bench
11:31that can run
11:32I think
11:33we have
11:34some pieces
11:34that we
11:35can really
11:35sure up
11:36and make
11:36this team
11:37a championship
11:38contender
11:40but let me
11:41know your
11:41thoughts down
11:42in the comments
11:42below
