00:01Iranians rallied in the streets of Tehran after a call by the exiled crown prince, leading to nationwide internet and phone outages.
00:11France has announced it will vote against the EU-Mercosur trade deal, marking President Emmanuel Macron's latest clash with Brussels.
00:21The US will dictate Venezuela's interim government decisions and oil sales, the White House announced after seizing two oil tankers.
00:31Iranians rallied in the streets of the capital Tehran Thursday night after a call by the country's exiled crown prince for a mass demonstration.
00:41Internet access and telephone lines in Iran cut out immediately after, in a new escalation of the protests that have spread nationwide across the Islamic Republic.
00:51Cloudflare, an internet firm, and the advocacy group Netblocks reported the internet outage, both attributing it to Iranian government interference.
01:00And you can see that the whole community will be more likely to make it easier for you.
01:09The important thing is that you will be able to take care of this situation and safety.
01:12The protest represented the first test of whether the Iranian public
01:41could be swayed by Crown Prince Reza Pallavi, whose fatally ill father fled Iran just
01:47before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Iranian officials appeared to be taking the planned
01:53protests seriously. The hardline Qaihan newspaper published a video online claiming security
01:59forces would use drones to identify those taking part.
02:06France has announced it will vote against the EU-Mercosur trade deal, marking President
02:10Emmanuel Macron's latest clash with Brussels. Macron said the agreement belongs to another
02:16era and warned it threatens Europe's food sovereignty and farmers.
02:21The trade pact struck in 2024 aims to create a free trade area with Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay
02:29and Uruguay after 25 years of talk. France's opposition had stalled the deal for months,
02:37but Italy's apparent support has left Paris isolated. If Italy joins backers like Germany
02:44and Spain, France could be outvoted for the first time at the EU consign.
02:49The White House has announced that Venezuela's interim government decisions will be dictated
02:58by the United States and that it plans to control all sales of the country's petroleum following the
03:04capture of Nicolás Maduro. It comes after U.S. forces seized two Venezuela-linked oil tankers on
03:11Wednesday in the North Atlantic and the Caribbean. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said controlling
03:17Venezuela's oil would allow Washington to pressure the country.
03:21The way that we control Venezuela is we control the purse strings, we control the energy resources and
03:26we tell the regime you're allowed to sell the oil so long as you serve America's national interest.
03:31You're not allowed to sell it if you can't serve America's national interest. And that's how we
03:35exert incredible pressure on that country without wasting a single American life, without endangering
03:41a single American citizen. Venezuelan interim president Delcy Rodriguez, who was officially sworn in
03:46this week, said Venezuela would pursue economic relationships across multiple continents,
03:52characterizing U.S. engagement as standard diplomatic practice.
03:56The 71% of the Venezuelan export is concentrated in 8 countries. And of that 71%, the 27%, the
04:07destination is the United States and North America. The economic relations of Venezuela are
04:13diversified in different markets in the world, as are diversified our geopolitical relations. And so
04:22the U.S. Energy Department said Washington would oversee all Venezuelan oil shipments worldwide,
04:33permitting exports only through approved channels. Sales of 30 million to 50 million barrels will begin
04:40immediately, with proceeds held in U.S. controlled accounts at international banks.
04:45U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order suspending Washington's participation in
04:55dozens of U.N. agencies, commissions, and advisory panels focused on climate, labor, migration, and other
05:02issues his administration describes as promoting so-called work initiatives. This means the U.S. will
05:11withdraw from 66 international organizations, including the U.N. Climate Treaty Framework,
05:18marking the most extensive retreat from global cooperation in U.S. modern history. According to U.S.
05:25Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the institutions were redundant in their scope, mismanaged, wasteful,
05:32and poorly run. Rubio also described the agency's interest as a threat to U.S. sovereignty.
05:39The withdrawal leaves the U.S. as the only country outside a global climate framework.
05:45It also comes as Trump rattles allies and adversaries with military actions.
05:51Trump, who calls climate change a hoax, withdrew from the Paris Agreement shortly after returning to
05:57the White House.
05:58The French researcher Laurent Vinatier is back in France after being imprisoned in Russia since June 2024.
06:09This release is the result of a prisoner exchange with a Russian basketball player.
06:14Daniel Kesetkin was the subject of an American arrest warrant. He was arrested at a Paris airport. The Russian
06:21player was suspected of having been involved in ransomware attacks on some 900 companies, including
06:27two U.S. federal institutions. Our compatriot Laurent Vinatier is free. The French President Emmanuel Macron
06:34announced on X, stating that the researcher was already on French soil. The head of state expressed
06:40his gratitude to our diplomatic agents for their mobilization. Laurent Vinatier, a researcher
06:46specializing in the former Soviet bloc, was arrested while he was working for the Center for Humanitarian
06:51Dialogue. The Swiss NGO mediates in conflicts outside official diplomatic channels, particularly in
06:57Ukraine. Laurent Vinatier was accused of not having registered as a foreign agent. He was sentenced to three
07:04years in prison. Last August, the Moscow court opened new proceedings, this time for espionage, a charge
07:11punishable by 20 years imprisonment.
07:17Israel's Prime Minister has announced that former UN Middle East envoy Nikolai Mladenov will serve as
07:22Director General of U.S. President Donald Trump's new Board of Peace. Benjamin Netanyahu made the
07:28announcement after meeting Mladenov in Jerusalem, calling it a major step in advancing Trump's
07:34Middle East peace plan. The Board will oversee the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, including
07:39Hamas disarmament, Israeli troop pullbacks, and reconstruction efforts. A senior U.S. official
07:46confirmed Mladenov's appointment, though Washington has yet to make it formal. Mladenov, a former
07:52Bulgarian Foreign and Defense Minister, helped mediate between Israel and Hamas from 2015 to 2020.
08:00The ceasefire, launched on 10th of October, has largely held despite ongoing Israeli strikes that
08:05have killed more than 400 Palestinians. EU foreign policy chief Kayakallas called the humanitarian
08:14situation in Gaza extremely severe, urging international action to stabilize the region.
08:20Tour guides who lead hikers up Sicily's Mount Etna have gone on strike for the first time in
08:32decades. They're protesting tougher restrictions imposed by local authorities after a round of
08:38eruptions at the giant volcano in recent weeks. The lava flows are especially spectacular after sunset,
08:45but under the new rules, excursions are only allowed until dusk and can go no closer than 200 meters to
08:51the lava flow.
08:52The guides call the new restrictions excessive and say the lava flows are slow-moving enough to be viewed
09:17as safely as has been done in the past. They're expected to continue their strike in the coming days,
09:24hoping to come to a compromise with authorities that can protect their profession while also ensuring the safety of visitors.
09:30What do you say we toast our tea to family relations?
09:41Oh.
09:45It's wonderful to see you, Bert.
09:48Very happy to see them on the one hand, but I just have to keep them from stirring things up.
09:54You've always been my favorite son.
09:56Well, you're only son.
09:58As far as we know.
10:01You're dead.
10:04Shall I be mother?
10:05You might as well start sometime.
10:07May I ask if you still take anything?
10:11No, I don't. I don't. No heroin, no cocaine, no uppers, no downers, no goofballs.
10:18No, I don't. No heroin.
10:20Daddy, I, I, I just.
10:36We seem to be accidentally color coordinated. How embarrassing.
10:40Daddy, how's your health in general?
10:46Any recent episodes?
10:48You know, like at mom's funeral?
10:55Aren't you glad we had such unconventional parents?
10:58Yeah, I mean, who wants to be a square hand of a conventional life?
11:05It's like they say, you can choose your friends and your lovers, but you can't choose your family.
