00:00Trump says ICE agent lucky to be alive after Minneapolis shooting
00:04President Donald Trump said an ICE agent hospitalized after a fatal shooting in Minneapolis
00:10narrowly survived being struck by a vehicle, calling the incident an act of violent resistance
00:16against federal law enforcement. According to the New York Post, in a statement posted to
00:20Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump described the woman involved as very disorderly and said the
00:25agent acted in self-defense after being hit. The woman driving the car was very disorderly,
00:31obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully and viciously ran over the ICE officer,
00:36who seems to have shot her in self-defense, Trump wrote, while sharing a wide-angle video clip of
00:41the incident. He said the agent was taken to the hospital following the encounter and emphasized
00:47the severity of the injuries. It is hard to believe he is still alive but is now recovering in the
00:52hospital, Trump added. The president used the statement to condemn what he described as rising
00:58hostility toward immigration and customs enforcement, since his administration intensified its crackdown
01:04on illegal immigration. The situation is being studied in its entirety, but the reason these
01:10incidents are happening is because the radical left is threatening, assaulting and targeting our
01:16law enforcement officers and ICE agents on a daily basis, Trump wrote in the same post.
01:21He argued that ICE officers are being unfairly vilified while carrying out their duties.
01:27They are just trying to do the job of making America safe, Trump continued. We need to stand
01:32by and protect our law enforcement officers from this radical left movement of violence and hate.
01:38Video from the scene shows a heavy federal law enforcement presence in the south uptown area of
01:42Minneapolis, where the shooting occurred. Authorities have confirmed that an ICE agent was struck
01:47by a vehicle before the woman was fatally shot. Following the incident, a large crowd of protesters
01:52gathered in the area, prompting heightened tensions and drawing national attention. The shooting occurred
01:57less than a mile from the location where George Floyd was killed by former Minneapolis police officer
02:02Derek Chauvin. Chauvin was later convicted and sentenced to 21 years in prison for murder,
02:08a case that sparked widespread protests and unrest in the city and across the country.
