00:00The island of Sicily and mainland Italy are to be connected by the world's longest suspension bridge with a length of more than three kilometers.
00:09For environmental activist Anna Giordano, the plant poses a threat to migratory birds.
00:14This is a fundamental migration path and that even just the death of a single individual can have catastrophic repercussions on European populations.
00:24Anna has been caring for injured birds for years.
00:27In her view, the planned bridge violates EU directives because it is to be built in a bird sanctuary.
00:47To date, a ferry operates on the Strait of Messina.
00:51Advocates of the bridge say it would shorten the journey to a few minutes.
00:54But hundreds of residents would have to be relocated.
00:58What also bothers Anna is the cost, 13.5 billion euros.
01:04The activist wants to continue fighting for the birds and against the bridge project across the Strait of Messina.
