00:00:00There's no sell-by date on that sort of thing.
00:00:03What they wrote was timeless because it was authentic.
00:00:07It's the kind of show I wish was on the air right now.
00:00:12Whenever you find it on TV, it makes me stop.
00:00:15And every joke is still just as funny.
00:00:17And this murderer's row of a cast.
00:00:20Ray, what's somebody you wanted in your home?
00:00:22You wanted to be part of that family.
00:00:26I believe in 20, 30, 40, 50 more years.
00:00:30We'll still love Everybody Loves Raymond.
00:00:31The writing and the acting, directing, that was near perfect, my God.
00:00:35And it's in color.
00:01:40I love you.
00:01:43I love you.
00:01:44Don't make me cry yet.
00:01:45There's going to be a lot of that.
00:01:47Let me just tell you something.
00:01:48The reason we're doing this is because of the fans.
00:01:51I mean, I miss it.
00:01:53I miss everything.
00:01:53I miss you people.
00:01:55I miss the cast.
00:01:57My real wife is backstage with my TV wife.
00:02:00Yes.
00:02:01If you've been married for a long time, folks, you know, there's a lot of ups and downs.
00:02:05And this is an example of how long we've been married.
00:02:08The other day, she actually said to me, you know, you don't talk a lot.
00:02:14But when you do, it's too much.
00:02:16We're going to have a great night.
00:02:21I'm so glad you're here.
00:02:22Who came from, like, far away?
00:02:24Who's from the...
00:02:24Where are you from?
00:02:25Philippines.
00:02:26I watched you when I was, like, seven or eight.
00:02:28In the Philippines?
00:02:29Yes.
00:02:30But, of course, dubbed in...
00:02:31No.
00:02:32I learned English from...
00:02:33You learned English from me.
00:02:39Well, I appreciate it.
00:02:44But thank you very much.
00:02:46Listen, before we go even further, I want to bring out a man who's been my partner in this
00:02:51venture, in this journey for the last 30 years.
00:02:55He's the reason that this show exists.
00:02:58But this was his baby just like it was mine.
00:03:01Please welcome Phil Rosenthal.
00:03:03How great is this?
00:03:19This is amazing.
00:03:20You learned how to speak English from Ray Romano?
00:03:23So were your first English words...
00:03:25Oh, no!
00:03:29First of all, let's get one thing out of the way.
00:03:31This, I'm sure you will know, is a reunion.
00:03:34This is a reunion that we...
00:03:36Not a reboot.
00:03:36We're never going to do one because we're missing three cast members, three family members,
00:03:42so we would never try to do the show without them.
00:03:44It wouldn't be the same.
00:03:45No.
00:03:45And we have too much respect for the show itself and for the beautiful audience to keep it the
00:03:51way it is.
00:03:51And thankfully, the show is still on every day all over the world, which...
00:03:57Right.
00:03:59If you want to visit your friends, we're here.
00:04:03How did we meet?
00:04:05Well, I was in bed.
00:04:07And I was watching David Letterman with my wife.
00:04:11This would have been 1995?
00:04:1395.
00:04:16We had a production company, and we were always looking for a funny project.
00:04:21And I think we were all pretty greedy when we saw Ray.
00:04:25Our ladies and gentlemen, next guest is a very funny comedian making his first appearance
00:04:30with us tonight.
00:04:31He can also be seen...
00:04:32Oh, I just look like a mid-level mortuary has gotten a hold of me.
00:04:36Do me a favor now.
00:04:37Please, a nice welcome for Ray Romano.
00:04:39Ray!
00:04:43My first impression, he's wearing his father's suit.
00:04:46But that's fine.
00:04:47I'm going to let that go.
00:04:48I have a three-year-old daughter and twin two-year-old boys.
00:04:53Well.
00:04:57Single people are here.
00:05:01I can make them laugh.
00:05:02I can make an infant laugh in a second.
00:05:03I'll tell you, I'm losing my perspective on adult humor.
00:05:06I wrote one new joke since my twins were born.
00:05:09Here, is this funny?
00:05:10What do you think it is?
00:05:12Hi!
00:05:14Hi, everybody!
00:05:17That rings true with me.
00:05:18I had no idea how to be a parent.
00:05:21So I thought, if I can make the kid laugh, I've done something.
00:05:25I'm glad.
00:05:25I'm glad you laughed.
00:05:26If you didn't laugh at that, I would have had to come and rub my nose in your bellies.
00:05:31Ray is the guy, and let's go, and before he gets in the cab, let's get him to sign something.
00:05:39And I think it was a combination of his likability and the quality of the material.
00:05:44I thought, you know, pretty run-of-the-mill topics, but the quality of the jokes in those topics, I thought were superior.
00:05:51It was just dumb luck that we had anything to do with it.
00:05:55It's like, you know, kids playing with fireworks.
00:05:59Oh, geez, it actually exploded.
00:06:01It was sort of like that.
00:06:03That's why we're here.
00:06:13A week later, they called me and said, we'd like to sign you to a deal to try to produce a sitcom.
00:06:20Right.
00:06:21And then I had to go find a guy to write it and run it.
00:06:25Did you?
00:06:30So they set us up on a blind date here in L.A. at Arts Deli on Ventura Boulevard, and we meet.
00:06:36And I say to Ray, you know, tell me about yourself, just like I would with any of you,
00:06:41if we were going to work together, but we didn't know each other.
00:06:43So tell me about yourself.
00:06:44And you said, well, I got twin boys and an older daughter, and my parents live close by in Queens.
00:06:50You got to do the voice?
00:06:51You got to do the little bit?
00:06:51A little bit.
00:06:52Yeah, okay.
00:06:52And then my older brother's a police sergeant.
00:06:56He lives with them.
00:06:57He's always touching every bite of food to his gym before he eats it, and he's kind of jealous of me.
00:07:01He saw my stand-up comedy award, and he said, never ends for Raymond.
00:07:05Everybody loves Raymond.
00:07:07And do you remember what I said?
00:07:09You said, well, I don't think there's anything there.
00:07:16Jokingly.
00:07:16I thought that was a very good place to start.
00:07:18And what I didn't know about the personalities in Ray's family, I filled in with the personalities from my family.
00:07:2690% of everything you saw on the show happened to me or to Ray or to one of the other writers.
00:07:34What are you doing?
00:07:36The show had premiered, and Ray said to his wife, Anna, my show just premiered in front of all these people.
00:07:44And she said, yeah, and I just cleaned plum off the ceiling from the kids.
00:07:50I think this show means everything to us.
00:07:53It got to capture our family, Ray's family, everybody who worked here, their families.
00:08:00It was just like a community, you know, we became a community.
00:08:03We all felt so safe here and welcomed.
00:08:05I remember my dad would, he'd come out right before the show, he'd greet the audience.
00:08:11He always would bring me up, say hello.
00:08:13He'd do the same joke with the audience about having twins.
00:08:16Like, here's Matt.
00:08:17I have another son.
00:08:19If he was here, it looked like this.
00:08:20And then I'd go behind him and stand on that side.
00:08:22There's one episode based on a real thing that I did, which is when I was in first grade.
00:08:27We all had to write books, you know, little picture books.
00:08:31My book was...
00:08:33The Angry Family.
00:08:38All the parents came in to read it, and, you know, they were all looking at my parents.
00:08:44Mommy was mad at the daddy.
00:08:49He got an episode out of it.
00:08:51Yeah, the Ray on the show is the Ray at home, and that is because at home, he does a lot
00:08:57of annoying things that drive me crazy.
00:09:00I think if I were to do an impression, it's just a little bit deeper, like, grunt, like,
00:09:05I don't know.
00:09:07People do the grunt, right?
00:09:08Oh, come on.
00:09:09My back is here.
00:09:11It's a little, oh, okay.
00:09:13Now it's even worse.
00:09:14Now it's even worse.
00:09:15Who brought the cookies here?
00:09:17Who brought the donuts?
00:09:18All right, I'm just going to eat one.
00:09:19Oh, my God.
00:09:20It's so good.
00:09:21Five minutes later.
00:09:23Oh, my stomach hurts.
00:09:24Allie, why'd you do that?
00:09:25Oh, damn that.
00:09:27Oh, no.
00:09:28It's that raw.
00:09:29Yep, there it went again.
00:09:31I think one of the things that put it over the top, where CBS had to decide whether to
00:09:38put us on was something out of your actual life, which was...
00:09:42When I'm writing the pilot, I'm thinking, how do we convey exactly, in a short amount of
00:09:47time, how crazy Ray's parents are?
00:09:50And then this happened to me, where I sent my parents, I thought I was being nice, a gift
00:09:57of Fruit of the Month Club.
00:09:58Look, I appreciate the thought, Raymond, but please, don't ever send us any more food again,
00:10:05okay?
00:10:06Thanks.
00:10:06Thanks, Doug.
00:10:07Well, another box is coming next month.
00:10:10What?
00:10:11More pears?
00:10:12No.
00:10:13No, it's a different fruit every month.
00:10:16Every month?
00:10:17Yes, yes.
00:10:18That's why they call it Fruit of the Month Club.
00:10:20It's a club?
00:10:21Oh, my God.
00:10:22What am I going to do with all this fruit?
00:10:23Well, most people like it, Ma.
00:10:25You share it.
00:10:26Share it with all your friends.
00:10:27Which friends?
00:10:28I don't know.
00:10:29Lee and Stan.
00:10:30Lee and Stan buy their own fruit.
00:10:32Oh, why did you do this to me?
00:10:35Oh, my God.
00:10:36I can't talk to Stuart Fruit in the house.
00:10:39What do you think we are, invalids?
00:10:42We can't go out and get our own fruit?
00:10:45I'm trying to tell them.
00:10:46All right.
00:10:47I'm canceling the Fruit Club.
00:10:48Oh, good.
00:10:49Thank you, Raymond.
00:10:51And don't do that again.
00:10:52Like, we don't have enough problems.
00:11:01What I didn't realize and what I learned from doing that, from us doing that,
00:11:07oh, wait, your parents are all crazy, too.
00:11:10Yes.
00:11:11We get it all the time.
00:11:12People from all over parts of the world tell us, that's my mother.
00:11:15That's my father.
00:11:17That's my mother.
00:11:17We didn't know your mother.
00:11:18We were writing our mother.
00:11:19And we have so many favorite episodes.
00:11:21Some of the ones we're going to talk about tonight.
00:11:23I have one that just came to mind, and it's good since we're starting.
00:11:27You know, we did a flashback episode at the end of every season.
00:11:30And this was my favorite because it's how they met, meaning Ray and Debra.
00:11:36You know, it looks like I made too much food here if you're hungry.
00:11:39Oh, yeah?
00:11:43Yeah, you want some?
00:11:45All right, yeah.
00:11:46Wrap it up.
00:11:46I'll eat it in the truck.
00:11:52Can I ask you something?
00:11:54Yeah, sure.
00:11:56Were you making all that food for someone and they didn't show up?
00:12:01They showed up.
00:12:05Hey, you want something to drink?
00:12:07Yeah, yeah, well, let me get that.
00:12:08Okay, the glasses are right there.
00:12:09Okay.
00:12:10Price?
00:12:11Yeah.
00:12:11That'd be great.
00:12:14I like the round cubes with the holes in them.
00:12:30Those are my favorite kind of cubes.
00:12:31Are you okay?
00:12:38Yeah, I'm fine.
00:12:39Ah, you all right?
00:12:41Yeah.
00:12:46You're a good kisser.
00:12:48All right, you're in shock.
00:12:50You're both so great in that, and it's just so sweet to me, in addition to being funny.
00:12:59The flashback episodes were always...
00:13:01So fun.
00:13:02...mine fun to do.
00:13:03Look, I like all the episodes, but of course there's some we like more than others.
00:13:07And I have like a top five, and the one off the top of my head is called Talk to Your Daughter.
00:13:13So Talk to Your Daughter is about, at some point, having to have the talk with your child about the birds and the bees, you know?
00:13:23When a man and a woman love each other very much, they get married.
00:13:29And then, sometimes, they decide to make a baby.
00:13:34I know that the man and the woman have to do something, but why are we born?
00:13:39Why has God put us here?
00:13:41Why are we here, Daddy?
00:13:59Yeah, I heard you.
00:14:00I heard you.
00:14:03You don't want to talk about sex?
00:14:08What do you mean?
00:14:08Allie didn't want to talk about sex.
00:14:10She started asking questions about life.
00:14:12Why did God put us here?
00:14:13Crazy stuff like that.
00:14:16Wow.
00:14:17So what did you say?
00:14:17I told her we're here because heaven is crowded.
00:14:23You said heaven is crowded.
00:14:24I got ambushed!
00:14:26If you want to know what's in the Bible, why don't you talk to Father Hubley?
00:14:29Hey, that's right.
00:14:31You know what?
00:14:31It's his job to know these things.
00:14:33What, are you going to call him?
00:14:35Yeah.
00:14:35What are we putting the money in that basket for?
00:14:37Me and the family were just sitting around, and we had a quick question for you.
00:14:43What is the meaning of life?
00:14:47So if you could get back to us as soon as possible, we'd appreciate it, all right?
00:14:50I hate to admit it, but I'm guilty of, I didn't have that talk with my kids.
00:15:01Now I have 19 grandchildren.
00:15:05All right, they don't want to hear two old guys talk.
00:15:07They don't?
00:15:08Should we bring out some people for you?
00:15:10Yes, yes.
00:15:11When I got married, I didn't just get a husband.
00:15:25I got a whole freak show that set up their tent right across the street.
00:15:29Oh, you were open and considerate and willing to look at your own faults.
00:15:34You made me sick.
00:15:36Ray.
00:15:37Ray.
00:15:37Ray?
00:15:38Ray?
00:15:38Hello, Raymond.
00:15:40I do not have a drinking problem, sir.
00:15:42What I have is a mother-in-law problem.
00:15:46Woo!
00:15:51No.
00:15:51No.
00:15:52No.
00:15:52We're going to counseling.
00:15:53No!
00:15:54You meant what I said here today.
00:15:55I love you!
00:15:56I'm pregnant!
00:15:57I am not the yeller!
00:15:58You are the reason for the yeller!
00:16:00I have no idea what I have to put up with.
00:16:08Ladies and gentlemen, Patricia Heaton.
00:16:12Patty!
00:16:12Patty!
00:16:12Patty!
00:16:13Patty!
00:16:13Patty!
00:16:14Patty!
00:16:15Patty!
00:16:16Patty!
00:16:17Patty!
00:16:18Patty!
00:16:19Patty!
00:16:20Patty!
00:16:21Patty!
00:16:22Patty!
00:16:23Patty!
00:16:24Patty!
00:16:25Patty!
00:16:26Patty!
00:16:27Patty!
00:16:28Patty!
00:16:28Patty!
00:16:28Patty!
00:16:30Patty!
00:16:31Look at these two.
00:16:31I'm so happy.
00:16:33Do you know, I didn't say this, we saw 200 women before we found Patty Heaton.
00:16:40200.
00:16:41And when she came in, she just knocked it out of the park.
00:16:45I mean, you can talk about what that day was like.
00:16:48Well, I was going through, and I think why the show worked,
00:16:52we were all going through what the Barone family was going through in our lives.
00:16:55We all had kids. We all were newly married.
00:16:57Yes, and I had a three-year-old and a one-year-old in my life.
00:17:02Right.
00:17:03I had a babysitting issue when I was coming to the audition.
00:17:06I needed to get back.
00:17:08I was cutting out coupons for 50 cents off two packs of Ballpark Franks.
00:17:13And so I needed the gig.
00:17:15And I got there, and there was a waiting room of at least eight women.
00:17:19And I thought, I'm never going to get back in time for the babysitter.
00:17:21And so I went in and sat there, and I just needed to get this audition done.
00:17:27And there was a guy sitting in the corner, and I thought,
00:17:29maybe he can get me some water while we're waiting for Ray to come.
00:17:33It was him.
00:17:34And I didn't really have to do research, and I didn't really have to do acting,
00:17:37because it was what we were all dealing with in our marriages.
00:17:40And so, fortunately, we got to monetize that.
00:17:43Yeah, yes.
00:17:45You were living the role.
00:17:46You were living the role.
00:17:48You know, when I need to talk to Ray about, like, my feelings or our children,
00:17:52I know I haven't until the commercial's over.
00:17:54That gives me 30 seconds.
00:17:56And if there's a girl in the commercial, or a truck with big wheels,
00:18:00or, God forbid, a monkey, forget it.
00:18:03I think it was the first show I'd worked on.
00:18:05I'd worked for a while on TV that really encouraged us to bring in our stories from home.
00:18:09Phil, in the writer's room, only half-jokingly said,
00:18:12all right, we need two more stories.
00:18:13Anybody having a fight with their spouse?
00:18:15Phil's idea when he was running the show was,
00:18:18how can you write about real life if you can't live one?
00:18:21There's an episode of Raymond called The 10th Anniversary,
00:18:23where Ray and Deborah put in the VHS tape of their wedding on their 10th anniversary.
00:18:28And discovered that he's taped over with a Super Bowl.
00:18:38I did that.
00:18:40But it was my first anniversary.
00:18:41We put in our VHS tape and discovered that I had taped over our wedding
00:18:46with an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond.
00:18:48Where did our wedding go?
00:18:55It's just like the stories seem authentic.
00:18:57And whether it's more exaggerated than maybe it would have happened in real life,
00:19:00like, that kernel of truth, I think, comes through.
00:19:03Well, 10 years, that's enough.
00:19:09It was such a pleasure to write for both of you.
00:19:14And there was one other...
00:19:17There was...
00:19:18Phil's getting emotional.
00:19:20A little bit.
00:19:20Because it's a dream to wind up with people like this.
00:19:24If you're just a writer, you pray for someone to come along
00:19:28and give so much more beyond it and to make it real.
00:19:33My favorite thing about the cast was how they all committed
00:19:37to the most silly thing as if it was life and death.
00:19:43And that made it so alive and real and relatable.
00:19:48And the two of you had the most spectacular chemistry.
00:19:51And I always said that Patty Heaton's the best wife on television.
00:19:54Oh!
00:19:55Well, we're also...
00:19:56We're...
00:20:02I think we're forgetting one little key element
00:20:05that really sold me on you during that first audition.
00:20:09That's how desperate I was to get the job.
00:20:11Yeah.
00:20:11Well, they don't know what you're talking about.
00:20:13I kissed him.
00:20:13Yes.
00:20:14There was...
00:20:14There was a part where it says she kisses her husband,
00:20:18and every other actress just kind of mimed it.
00:20:22For some reason, she did it.
00:20:24Nobody else...
00:20:25And when she walked out, I go,
00:20:28That's the one!
00:20:30Patty, do you have a favorite episode?
00:20:33Um, yes.
00:20:34There was the one where we went away for a weekend
00:20:38and we put the suitcase on the landing.
00:20:42We put it there and neither of us would take it up and empty it.
00:20:46And we keep waiting for the other person to do it.
00:20:49What are you doing?
00:20:51What?
00:20:53Just packing a soda for the road.
00:20:55Problem?
00:20:57That's how you're getting on the airplane.
00:20:59Yeah.
00:20:59Yeah, I'm traveling light.
00:21:01I'm traveling loose.
00:21:04What are you, a hobo?
00:21:09Why don't you take the suitcase?
00:21:11You know what?
00:21:12I don't need it.
00:21:16Okay, you know what?
00:21:20Oh.
00:21:23Yeah, good.
00:21:25You know what?
00:21:26I'm getting it.
00:21:28What's that supposed to mean?
00:21:30It means I'll get it.
00:21:33I'll be the one who got it.
00:21:36Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
00:21:40I will get it.
00:21:41Let the record show that I got it.
00:21:43You let go of it.
00:21:45No, no, no, no.
00:21:45You let go of it.
00:21:47Let go of it.
00:21:49Let go.
00:21:49Let go.
00:21:51Let go.
00:21:54No, you don't.
00:21:55No, you don't.
00:21:56I'm doing it.
00:21:57No.
00:21:58I'm moving it.
00:21:59I don't care.
00:22:00I'm moving it.
00:22:00I'm the one moving it, everybody.
00:22:02Look at me.
00:22:03Don't let a suitcase filled with cheese be your big fork and spoon.
00:22:08This is all your fault.
00:22:34When did we get those?
00:22:38That's one of my favorite lines ever in the show, because that, to me, is marriage, especially
00:22:45a long marriage.
00:22:46Yes.
00:22:47So many people, and this is really, I think, what's not important about comedy, but every
00:22:55month at least, if not every week, somebody either on social media or if I run into them
00:23:01says, your show was the one thing that our family could laugh together when my father
00:23:06was sick.
00:23:07And it was his favorite thing that's been going on for 30 years.
00:23:11And so, you know, it just feels like we're able to do that.
00:23:16That's beautiful.
00:23:19We needed to cast Ray's brother.
00:23:22Should we bring him out soon?
00:23:23Trouble in paradise?
00:23:36Why would you want to hear me complain about Ray?
00:23:41Perhaps we haven't met.
00:23:43I'm Robert Barone.
00:23:45Hey, hey.
00:23:46Hey, Robert.
00:23:47Everybody loves Rayman.
00:23:50Surprise, it's an iguana.
00:23:53Take it out.
00:23:56Here you go.
00:23:57Here you go.
00:23:58All right.
00:23:59Who is the man?
00:24:02I am the man.
00:24:04I need to say something.
00:24:06More!
00:24:07No wife, no children.
00:24:10Pathetic.
00:24:10Thanks for the kind words.
00:24:17Brad Garrett, everybody.
00:24:31I'll come around.
00:24:32I'll come around.
00:24:33Oh, boy.
00:24:48It is so great to meet you.
00:24:53Do you have any memories of coming in
00:24:56and meeting Ray?
00:24:57I remember auditioning
00:24:59when I read who Robert was.
00:25:01I just felt I knew this guy, you know?
00:25:04I was the youngest of three brothers growing up,
00:25:07and they were, you know,
00:25:09much more popular,
00:25:11and they had a lot more going for them,
00:25:13and I kind of felt like the kid
00:25:14that grew up under the sink, you know?
00:25:17So when I read it,
00:25:19I kind of felt like I knew
00:25:20who Robert was, you know?
00:25:23Yes, Ray?
00:25:24Um, how could you...
00:25:26You have to raise your hand.
00:25:26It's your show.
00:25:30How could you fit under the sink?
00:25:33Well...
00:25:34We would write lines, jokes,
00:25:38and sometimes we didn't need them.
00:25:40Why?
00:25:41Because when we would cut to a face,
00:25:44they already said it with their look,
00:25:46and it was better than anything we could write,
00:25:49and the king of this was Brad.
00:25:52Yes.
00:25:52That's very sweet.
00:25:53Just beautiful.
00:25:54Any, uh, lovely stories you have
00:25:56from, uh, your days on the show?
00:25:58Not really.
00:25:59No?
00:26:01Many.
00:26:02You know what I think of a lot
00:26:03is the episode She's the One
00:26:05where, uh, the girl I was dating
00:26:08ate the fly.
00:26:09Oh, yes.
00:26:11And when you tried to...
00:26:12to tell me what you saw in the kitchen,
00:26:15that scene was so great,
00:26:17but there was a moment where you were...
00:26:20Yeah, I almost passed out.
00:26:22Tell me what you were screaming
00:26:23or you had, uh, some type of...
00:26:25Well, I saw her eat the fly.
00:26:26Yeah.
00:26:27And then you come in
00:26:28and you talk to Patty and say,
00:26:29I really think she's the one.
00:26:31And I say, she's not the one.
00:26:32Right?
00:26:33And...
00:26:33And I tell you she ate the fly,
00:26:35you don't believe me,
00:26:36and I tell the story,
00:26:37and, again, all this pent up,
00:26:38and finally I end with,
00:26:39she took the fly,
00:26:40she put it in the...
00:26:41And then I scream at,
00:26:42she ate it!
00:26:44And I hyperventilated,
00:26:46and if you look very closely,
00:26:47you see me go,
00:26:48ooh, ooh,
00:26:49because I almost...
00:26:49I felt like I was going to pass out.
00:26:52Who hyperventilates saying a line?
00:26:55LAUGHTER
00:26:55Oh.
00:27:00Hey, you got him!
00:27:01Yeah, I guess I did.
00:27:02Wow, good hands.
00:27:04All right, um...
00:27:05Oh, it's OK, I got it.
00:27:06OK, I'll be about...
00:27:07Put this down.
00:27:08Oh, it's OK, I'll be about to go.
00:27:38And then she ate it!
00:27:41LAUGHTER
00:27:42LAUGHTER
00:27:42LAUGHTER
00:27:43LAUGHTER
00:27:44LAUGHTER
00:27:46LAUGHTER
00:27:47APPLAUSE
00:27:49LAUGHTER
00:27:50Commitment!
00:27:53Brad, do you...
00:27:54Was that your favourite,
00:27:55or do you have a favourite?
00:27:57Boy, there's so many.
00:27:58I...
00:27:58I really...
00:28:00loved Lucky Suit.
00:28:02Yes.
00:28:02Where...
00:28:02Where Robert has an interview
00:28:05to work with the FBI.
00:28:06So, as I was saying...
00:28:08Is this a joke?
00:28:11Excuse me?
00:28:12Dear FBI agent Garfield,
00:28:14I'm writing to ask for your understanding.
00:28:17You have an interview this morning
00:28:18with my son, Robert Barone.
00:28:20LAUGHTER
00:28:21LAUGHTER
00:28:22Oh, Robbie, you scared me.
00:28:42LAUGHTER
00:28:43How did your interview go?
00:28:49Come here, let me tell you about it.
00:28:52LAUGHTER
00:28:53LAUGHTER
00:28:53Didn't it go well?
00:28:57Well, it was going OK.
00:28:59And then Agent Garfield read me a letter
00:29:01about Crazy Robert and his lucky suit.
00:29:03LAUGHTER
00:29:04Mum, what did you do?
00:29:07She faxed the FBI a letter
00:29:08about how she ruined my lucky suit.
00:29:10I wasn't sure it went through.
00:29:12It's the first time I ever used a fax machine.
00:29:14LAUGHTER
00:29:14Marie, why don't you go into the kitchen...
00:29:18Robert, how about you just stay here
00:29:20and maybe blink a few times?
00:29:21LAUGHTER
00:29:22APPLAUSE
00:29:24For Mother's Day.
00:29:30This is a good story.
00:29:32After one of my shows,
00:29:33this guy came up to me after the show,
00:29:37and it was really amazing.
00:29:39He was a veteran,
00:29:41and I remember that, Phil, you and Ray
00:29:46would always send the DVDs to our troops
00:29:50when the show was on the air.
00:29:52And he gave me his retirement challenge coin.
00:29:56And he served from 1999 to 2020.
00:30:03And he said,
00:30:04you guys really helped
00:30:06when we needed the humour
00:30:07more than anything.
00:30:09And it really kept us buoyant.
00:30:12Wow.
00:30:13In what we were going through every day.
00:30:15And...
00:30:16Yeah.
00:30:19Yeah.
00:30:21It's an honour to be on this bus,
00:30:23and thanks for letting me on,
00:30:24even though I was a giant.
00:30:26LAUGHTER
00:30:27There's more people coming out.
00:30:29We'll be right back, I guess.
00:30:30Yeah.
00:30:31APPLAUSE
00:30:32We are in tomorrow.
00:30:37Bye!
00:30:39This is something, huh?
00:30:50Yeah.
00:30:51Something.
00:30:53Something.
00:30:54LAUGHTER
00:30:55LAUGHTER
00:30:56LAUGHTER
00:30:57It's all done!
00:31:15Hey, you're right!
00:31:27And it still has the dent from where I picked Patty up and threw her into the thing.
00:31:32Very good.
00:31:34So there was someone else in that scene that I knew for a long time before we did the show.
00:31:40I saw her first in a play, and I thought she was really funny.
00:31:44And then I married that girl.
00:31:46I might not be the best person to help.
00:31:48I've spent the last ten years looking for an engagement ring.
00:31:52Oh, Robert, this is my friend Amy. We used to work at the PR firm together.
00:31:55Hi!
00:31:56Hi, Ray!
00:31:57Here we go!
00:31:58Oh, look, this one looks like a heart.
00:32:00Stop your crying and get off your pity pot, Nancy!
00:32:05It's odd.
00:32:06I keep forgetting what a freak show this family is until somebody new comes in and looks at us like that.
00:32:16Wait!
00:32:17Did your mother come over and make things worse, as usual?
00:32:34Here's Monica!
00:32:35Monica!
00:32:36Where's Monica?
00:32:37Yes!
00:32:38Yes!
00:32:39Yes!
00:32:40Yeah!
00:32:41Yeah!
00:32:43Wow!
00:32:44Do a hug his first.
00:32:45Of course.
00:32:46I brought the husband.
00:32:47I brought the husband!
00:32:48Hello, my darling.
00:32:50My darling.
00:32:51Oh!
00:32:52Hello!
00:32:53Oh!
00:32:54Oh, my God.
00:32:55Relax!
00:32:56Relax!
00:32:57Relax!
00:32:58Woo!
00:32:59Hi, Monica!
00:33:00Hi!
00:33:01Hi!
00:33:02Hi, Monica.
00:33:03Hi.
00:33:04You can tell Monica brought a slightly different energy
00:33:07to the family, right?
00:33:08You know, just being here is so incredible, right?
00:33:11I can't believe how everyone did the set,
00:33:14like, everybody backstage,
00:33:16and you guys being here, it's so overwhelming.
00:33:19It's unbelievable.
00:33:21Talk about, what about,
00:33:23because first you were recurring, right?
00:33:25Yes. Well, first I didn't even know I'd be recurring.
00:33:27Can I tell you a little something?
00:33:29Yes.
00:33:29I was pregnant with our daughter, Lily,
00:33:31and I didn't know it.
00:33:33I found out after, so that first...
00:33:36Wait.
00:33:36I didn't know that.
00:33:37Yes.
00:33:38And flash forward, too, she just got married.
00:33:40And she just got married, Liz.
00:33:41She just got married.
00:33:42Oh, Lily, Lily got married.
00:33:43Yeah.
00:33:45We had a lot of babies on this show.
00:33:48A lot of babies.
00:33:49The moral is, this show made us horny.
00:33:53We were happy.
00:33:57When did you officially know you were a regular?
00:33:59It just started building and building and building.
00:34:02And the Robert and Amy, it really was, you know,
00:34:06I've had only a couple comedy partners in my life,
00:34:09but this one and that writing to this couple was so perfect.
00:34:13It was great.
00:34:14Wasn't it?
00:34:14It was great.
00:34:15It was so fun.
00:34:17And it was to then be with, like,
00:34:19one of the greatest comic teams of all time,
00:34:23Ray and Deborah.
00:34:24That's you guys.
00:34:25Yeah, you were brilliant.
00:34:27So it was really lucky.
00:34:29Do you have a favorite episode?
00:34:30Oh, yeah.
00:34:31All of them you mentioned.
00:34:32There's so many favorite episodes.
00:34:34The one that captures my heart is because my dear,
00:34:37beloved Georgia, who I was very close with,
00:34:40the Georgia Angle who played my mom.
00:34:42And it's Pat's Secret.
00:34:45Oh.
00:34:46Hi.
00:34:47Is everything all right?
00:34:50What, can't sleep?
00:34:51Yeah, me neither.
00:35:05Mind if I bum a ciggy?
00:35:08Robert was smoking.
00:35:10I wasn't.
00:35:11I wasn't.
00:35:12Smell him.
00:35:13Come here.
00:35:14Come here.
00:35:16Oh, my God.
00:35:18God.
00:35:19Do you know what he's been doing?
00:35:22Smell him.
00:35:25I'm killing him.
00:35:26I'm not.
00:35:27It wasn't lying.
00:35:28It was more like she was just letting off steam
00:35:31so you don't let it out on the person you love.
00:35:33You know?
00:35:35Like Ray.
00:35:36He has to drive around the block a few times every night
00:35:39listening to the radio before he goes home to face Deborah.
00:35:42Deborah.
00:35:42Deborah.
00:35:42Deborah.
00:35:42Deborah.
00:35:43Deborah.
00:35:44Deborah.
00:35:44Deborah.
00:35:44Deborah.
00:35:45Deborah.
00:35:45Deborah.
00:35:46Deborah.
00:35:46Deborah.
00:35:49Are you crazy?
00:35:59When I'm angry at my cat, Miss Puss,
00:36:02sometimes I'll sneak up behind her and bark like a dog.
00:36:06I like to blow up fireworks.
00:36:16Cat!
00:36:17I thought since it wasn't a secret anymore.
00:36:30Oh, my boy.
00:36:35She was just in heaven.
00:36:37And she always talked to everyone about the writing on this show,
00:36:42working with Phil, for years and years and years after.
00:36:45Beautiful.
00:36:46So thank you for letting us really back.
00:36:48We're so lucky to work with these comedy legends that we idolized.
00:36:52You know, we stand on the shoulders of the great people that came before us.
00:36:56Obviously, people have passed, and we've seen a lot of clips of our mom and dad on the show.
00:37:02But when we come back, we'll talk about them.
00:37:04So, let's talk about the parents.
00:37:29For you and me, it's very personal because they were so based on our parents.
00:37:37Yeah, the mother was more you.
00:37:39I mean, the mother was definitely more you.
00:37:41And the dad was more you, maybe?
00:37:42I used to say, everything you saw Peter do, my father probably did in real life without pants on.
00:37:50But I remember just talking about Peter during the pilot episode.
00:37:55So, now, I'm a young guy who just got fired from news radio.
00:37:59And here I am again attempting a show.
00:38:03And I'm nervous.
00:38:04And Peter is the great Peter Boyle, this iconic movie guy.
00:38:08And he's an imposing figure.
00:38:10I didn't know then how sweet he really was.
00:38:14And I hadn't really had a conversation with Peter.
00:38:16And our paths were crossing.
00:38:18And I swear to God, it must have been right here.
00:38:20And he just stops me.
00:38:22And I haven't said anything to him.
00:38:24He just stops me.
00:38:25And I guess he could tell.
00:38:26He could tell that I was a little nervous.
00:38:28And he just looks and he goes, I remember the words.
00:38:30He just goes, it's just like water.
00:38:33Just let it flow.
00:38:35And then he leaves.
00:38:37And at that time, I'm like, what does that mean?
00:38:42And even though, as an actor, I didn't know exactly what that meant, but I do now.
00:38:47Just the gesture.
00:38:50The gesture of him reaching out to me.
00:38:53It's everything.
00:38:54It's everything.
00:38:55Yeah.
00:38:57Beautiful.
00:38:57Anyway, go ahead.
00:38:58Talk about Doris.
00:38:58We saw a hundred ladies for the part, they all read with that fruit of the month scene.
00:39:08No one came close to Doris Roberts.
00:39:10No one.
00:39:12She was what was in my head and in my life and was so beyond even.
00:39:20And my, my real mother used to say, you know, it is a little exaggerated, but you never saw
00:39:30that with Doris because she was always spot on.
00:39:33She was always a hundred percent believable.
00:39:36Peter too.
00:39:37Again, I keep reiterating the same thing.
00:39:40We could be the best writers in the world.
00:39:42It wouldn't matter if we didn't have these people and Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts.
00:39:50Let me show you something.
00:39:52Let me show you something.
00:40:00Marie?
00:40:01Oh, well, okay.
00:40:05Oh, Frank, this is wonderful.
00:40:08You dumb bastard.
00:40:12What?
00:40:13Write it out.
00:40:14You put a stop to this now.
00:40:16All right, Dad.
00:40:17Let me ask you.
00:40:18She's in a bad mood.
00:40:20What?
00:40:20Two, three days tops?
00:40:23Before you know it, what used to be a bad mood now takes over and becomes her only mood.
00:40:31And then, well, then you become like me.
00:40:36When not a day goes by that I don't wish there was a comet screaming towards Earth to bring
00:40:42me sweet relief.
00:40:54That's going to need another coat.
00:40:58Did you say that you like Amy more than Deborah?
00:41:02I am not saying that I like Amy more than Deborah.
00:41:10I know.
00:41:11I know you're not saying it now.
00:41:15But did you say it ever?
00:41:17What if I told you that we have a tape of you saying it, Mom?
00:41:34Give me the tape.
00:41:37What we do in our bedroom is our own business.
00:41:39And I prefer not to be known as the whore of Lenbrook.
00:41:42We can move from Lenbrook.
00:41:54Can't you ever just be quiet?
00:41:57Don't you tell me to be quiet.
00:41:59I have a mind of my own, you know.
00:42:00I can contribute.
00:42:02I'm not just some trophy wife.
00:42:04You're a trophy wife?
00:42:17What contest in hell did I win?
00:42:23You still can't think of anything nice to say about me?
00:42:26How about I sleep on it?
00:42:37It's all jokes.
00:42:50Frank, what are you doing?
00:42:51No, no, no.
00:42:52I need that.
00:42:54Frank.
00:42:56I like you better without the crap on your face.
00:43:10I left my heart
00:43:19In San Francisco
00:43:26Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
00:43:30My wife thinks I'm in the bathroom.
00:43:31I think we all have special memories of each one of them, you know.
00:44:01Doris could drink everybody under the table.
00:44:05Champagne.
00:44:06That was her choice.
00:44:07Pretty good.
00:44:08Never stop working, right?
00:44:09Never stop working on hiatuses.
00:44:11Yeah.
00:44:11Always working.
00:44:12Taking acting classes.
00:44:14And directing plays.
00:44:1690.
00:44:16Yes.
00:44:17And Peter was pretty much the opposite of that guy.
00:44:21He was kind of a renaissance man.
00:44:25Yes.
00:44:26He wasn't really like that character.
00:44:28Two things about him you may not know.
00:44:30He studied to be a monk.
00:44:33Yes.
00:44:33I asked him, what made you give it up?
00:44:35He said there weren't enough girls there.
00:44:38And best man at his wedding was John Lennon.
00:44:43Yeah.
00:44:44Yeah.
00:44:45How about that?
00:44:46As a matter of fact, the girl he married is here tonight.
00:44:50Yeah.
00:44:50Lorraine Boyle is sitting right up there.
00:44:52Lorraine Boyle.
00:44:54Yay!
00:44:58Yeah.
00:44:58Well, you know, it's funny.
00:45:03I remember when Peter Boyle was cast and we were, like, so excited because we're going
00:45:09to be able to play every week with this legend.
00:45:13And Ray went, you know, I think it's so fitting that the guy who's playing your dad was young
00:45:19Frankenstein.
00:45:22Yeah.
00:45:23Yeah.
00:45:23Well, they became our parents in more ways than one on the show.
00:45:29Yes.
00:45:30To Doris and Peter.
00:45:31Yes.
00:45:32Yay!
00:45:32Cheers.
00:45:33Yes.
00:45:34Cheers.
00:45:34Cheers.
00:45:36I love you.
00:45:39Hey.
00:45:56Good?
00:45:57Yeah.
00:45:58Yeah, good.
00:46:01Even better the second time now that my tongue's not scared.
00:46:06Everything happened over food.
00:46:07There was so much food on the show and it just sort of taught you that, like, lessons
00:46:12are learned and arguments are made when you're sitting down to eat.
00:46:17You learn a lot about each other.
00:46:18You should ask Debra how she makes this.
00:46:24I should ask Debra.
00:46:27I should ask Debra.
00:46:30Give me that.
00:46:31Food is, you know, it's family.
00:46:46Gathering around the table, just like love.
00:46:49You better not have started that cake.
00:46:52That cake is for all of us.
00:46:54I'm coming over.
00:46:56Food is love, because food is bringing people together.
00:47:01And so, yeah, we hit it all the time.
00:47:04A man needs chicken.
00:47:08Food is everything.
00:47:09And that's because that's Phil's obsession.
00:47:11For Phil, food was the most important thing.
00:47:14And it's the great connector.
00:47:15We, uh, actually had a lot to eat on the plane.
00:47:18Adesso mangiate.
00:47:21So, off we go to Italy.
00:47:23And, of course, the character of Ray Barone is miserable.
00:47:26Ray, this is the Spanish steps.
00:47:28Where's the Spanish elevator?
00:47:31But I remember this one moment.
00:47:33Pizza.
00:47:34And that piece of pizza, when he put it in his mouth.
00:47:40Wow.
00:47:41It's okay.
00:47:42Ray has this epiphany about everything.
00:47:45This is like the best pizza I ever had, man.
00:47:47He realizes the great thing, which is his family, the culture, the people.
00:47:53All those things are actually truly beautiful.
00:47:55And he's been missing them the whole episode.
00:48:02Look, we're in the kitchen.
00:48:03Uh, food was a very important part of the show.
00:48:07Uh, I think Marie held sway over the entire family because she was a great cook.
00:48:13And, uh, who wasn't?
00:48:15Aw.
00:48:16But we should talk about our children.
00:48:20Daddy, daddy!
00:48:22Catch me!
00:48:22Ah!
00:48:23Ah!
00:48:26Yeah!
00:48:28Everybody say cavities.
00:48:30Cavities!
00:48:30Mommy, that man's smoking.
00:48:35Narc.
00:48:36You look like you're doing pretty good here.
00:48:38You don't need my help, do you?
00:48:39Yes, I do.
00:48:41All right, don't worry.
00:48:41Daddy's here to help you.
00:48:44You can't make me.
00:48:46Look, I'm your father.
00:48:46You have to do what I say.
00:48:47Well, I can do!
00:48:50Why?
00:48:51Why?
00:48:51Why?
00:48:52Come on, guys.
00:48:54We're not snorkeling.
00:48:55We're eating.
00:48:56Okay.
00:48:56It's mine!
00:48:57It's mine!
00:48:59It's mine!
00:49:01We were just, uh...
00:49:04Oh, you know what?
00:49:10Madeline and Sullivan Sweeten, are you here?
00:49:13Wow.
00:49:28Everybody's grown up.
00:49:30They...
00:49:31They...
00:49:31In the blink of an eye, your kids grow up.
00:49:34Hi, you guys.
00:49:35Hi.
00:49:37So emotional.
00:49:38I really were.
00:49:40I know.
00:49:40Do you want to sit on my lap?
00:49:42What was it like to grow up here with us, with us maniacs?
00:49:48I mean, I don't know.
00:49:48It just felt like what we were supposed to do.
00:49:51I don't think we understood, right, how impactful the show was or how impactful what we were doing
00:49:58was.
00:49:58So, yeah, I would get upset that, you know, I couldn't be in the school play.
00:50:03Yeah, but looking back, you know, I wouldn't change anything about it.
00:50:06That's so great to hear.
00:50:07It's so good to see you guys.
00:50:09It really is.
00:50:10Tell us what you're doing now.
00:50:11I just had a baby.
00:50:12Yeah!
00:50:13Yeah!
00:50:15Your grandparents!
00:50:16Yeah, I brought them here with me today.
00:50:22My husband are in the back.
00:50:23Oh, great.
00:50:24They're excited to meet you.
00:50:25You guys were always in a good mood.
00:50:30Because we had lots of candy.
00:50:31But you were also, I want to say, fantastic.
00:50:36We were on set with some of the most amazing comedic actors in the world.
00:50:41So it was, you know, we were learning from everybody how to do it.
00:50:45And that's the only reason that we were, you know, any good at it, I think.
00:50:49Yeah, and I definitely feel like I carried that experience through my whole life.
00:50:52You know, I try to bring that kind of comedy with me wherever I go.
00:50:55Do you have a favorite episode?
00:50:58You know, it's funny.
00:50:59I'm not in my favorite episode.
00:51:01Now as an adult, as I've been watching it back, I found there's so many more adult things
00:51:06that I didn't realize when I was a kid.
00:51:09And my favorite episode is Marie's statue.
00:51:13Oh.
00:51:14I give you this.
00:51:20Isn't it a bit too ladylike?
00:51:31Great.
00:51:32See?
00:51:33Oh, now I do.
00:51:35It looks like something, though.
00:51:36What does it look like?
00:51:39You can get close.
00:51:41You can even touch it.
00:51:42I'm fine.
00:51:46I gotta tell you, I don't know what the hell this is, but I love it.
00:51:53Hello.
00:51:54Raymond Barone?
00:51:55Mm-hmm.
00:51:56I'm Sister Anne.
00:51:57This is Sister Beth.
00:51:58We're here to pick up the sculpture.
00:52:04Forgive me, but is that not a sculpture of...
00:52:09Oh, my God.
00:52:18I'm a lesbian.
00:52:21Oh, that's right.
00:52:26But what happened to the sculpture?
00:52:28I think it was in Doris's backyard.
00:52:31Oh, yeah.
00:52:31I think her grandkids used it as a slide.
00:52:34Oh, my God.
00:52:41That's wrong.
00:52:43Sullivan, you've got one.
00:52:45Oh, I've got plenty of good memories, you know, playing tag in the bleachers and, you
00:52:50know, the prop room.
00:52:51But I think I'm a sucker for a happy ending, and the final scene with everybody gathered
00:52:55around the table has got to be my favorite memory.
00:52:57Like we are now.
00:52:59Hey, what do you got there?
00:53:00French toast?
00:53:01No, no, no.
00:53:01No, don't worry.
00:53:02I'll make something.
00:53:03Yay!
00:53:03All right, Uncle Rob, it's hungry and big, and if you don't want to get eaten, move out
00:53:07of the way.
00:53:08Thank you, darling.
00:53:09This isn't some stuff.
00:53:10What do we have here?
00:53:11Here.
00:53:12Have some fruit in the meantime.
00:53:14Oh.
00:53:15Some of the grapes.
00:53:16Some of the grapes.
00:53:16Right.
00:53:17It's getting a little too crowded in here.
00:53:19Yeah, it is.
00:53:20You know what?
00:53:21We need a bigger table.
00:53:23Yes.
00:53:24All right.
00:53:24Who would like some chocolate chip pancakes?
00:53:27All right.
00:53:28Woo!
00:53:33The philosophy of we need a bigger table is everything to me.
00:53:40You know, the family is a microcosm of your families, we hope, and of wherever you live
00:53:48and our country and the world, we need a bigger table.
00:53:52So that's the idea.
00:53:53That's why I wanted it to be the last thing.
00:54:01Can we mention also...
00:54:03Sawyer, yeah.
00:54:05So Sawyer, of course, is no longer with us, and we miss him, and he, just like you, are
00:54:10just this bright energy, light.
00:54:13None of us really expected what happened, but, you know, I try to think about the good moments,
00:54:19and oftentimes, that's here on the set.
00:54:22I just think it's so important, any conversation that we're having about Sawyer, we're very
00:54:27passionate in our family about suicide prevention.
00:54:30It is the second leading cause of death between the ages of 18 to 25, but 90% of people who
00:54:37seek treatment are cured.
00:54:39And so many of the messages that we get are people saying, I'm so grateful to have heard
00:54:45about your brother.
00:54:45He saved my life.
00:54:46Is there an organization that you work with on behalf of Sawyer where people could reach
00:54:52out to you?
00:54:53We work with the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
00:54:56Okay.
00:54:57Our main place.
00:54:58Okay.
00:54:59Yeah.
00:55:00But, you know, people can grab a Sawyer t-shirt.
00:55:03We do t-shirts every year, and all of the proceeds go there.
00:55:07Great.
00:55:09Beautiful.
00:55:19You're not getting off.
00:55:20Don't push me.
00:55:21Ah!
00:55:22Get away.
00:55:23Get away.
00:55:24Get away.
00:55:25Get out!
00:55:26Get out!
00:55:27Get out!
00:55:29Get out!
00:55:30Get in сегодня.
00:55:31Get back!
00:55:32I almost didn't know how lucky I was working with amazing actors.
00:55:37That allowed you then to take these big swings with physical comedy.
00:55:44Oh.
00:55:45And then the actors, just so gifted, s-
00:55:49Robin, let me tell you what they did, okay?
00:56:00Oh, I am tired, sweetness.
00:56:04Oh, yeah.
00:56:06Oh.
00:56:07Oh, baby, does that feel good?
00:56:12Oh.
00:56:12Oh.
00:56:14Hmm.
00:56:15Come here.
00:56:19If Debra has to give him permission to make more decisions,
00:56:31and then it has to spectacularly end badly.
00:56:34Debra's going all nutty on me over here, but what else is new?
00:56:37That means Ray's got to, I don't know, like, set the kitchen on fire.
00:56:49The laugh inside the studio was, like, nothing I ever heard.
00:56:56Hey, what's this?
00:56:58Fire! Fire!
00:56:59Fire!
00:56:59Fire!
00:57:00Famous one was Patty dealing with that Thanksgiving turkey,
00:57:05and that was all her.
00:57:06Huh?
00:57:07Yeah.
00:57:08Debra is wrestling with a turkey that keeps falling,
00:57:11and you can write that on the page.
00:57:13It just looks like an action line.
00:57:16And then, when Patty Heaton does it,
00:57:20you look at the writers around you and go,
00:57:22look how good we are.
00:57:34Okay, yes, ma'am.
00:57:35Hi, my question for you is,
00:57:37do you guys have a favorite line,
00:57:38and if so, can you reenact it for us now?
00:57:40Favorite line.
00:57:43One favorite line.
00:57:45I have one.
00:57:46Yes.
00:57:46What did you do?
00:57:48What did you do?
00:57:58What did you do?
00:58:01Very well done.
00:58:03I have a favorite line.
00:58:05It wasn't, I didn't say it, but it was said to me,
00:58:08and it was from nobody on here.
00:58:10It was from a day character who was in a hospital bed,
00:58:14and I said something to her.
00:58:15I know it.
00:58:16And she looked at me and went,
00:58:18you tricky, tricky white boy.
00:58:21LAUGHTER
00:58:22You want to get better,
00:58:27you got to take your pills.
00:58:29LAUGHTER
00:58:30Oh, you tricky, tricky white boy.
00:58:34LAUGHTER
00:58:35What has happened to you in real life
00:58:41since the show's ended
00:58:43that you thought to yourself,
00:58:44that would make a really great episode?
00:58:47Yeah.
00:58:47Our friend Lou Schneider,
00:58:49who's one of the great writers of the show,
00:58:51he tells a story about how
00:58:53he was on vacation with the family,
00:58:56and he dropped his keys down the elevator shaft,
00:59:00right in the crack of the elevator door,
00:59:04and he was freaking out
00:59:05because it's the car keys,
00:59:06the house keys, everything,
00:59:08and he was really going nuts,
00:59:10and his wife said,
00:59:10this is great,
00:59:12maybe you could use it on the show!
00:59:14You know, this...
00:59:16We already did the episode
00:59:17where Ray loses his ring in the thing,
00:59:21so this is not good for the show,
00:59:24this is just something that happened.
00:59:26LAUGHTER
00:59:27Hey, guys, my question is actually
00:59:32for Brad Garrett.
00:59:33When Judy took you to the dance club...
00:59:35Yes.
00:59:35...you have this amazing, iconic dance.
00:59:37I wanted to ask if we can recreate it right now
00:59:40and boogie down a little.
00:59:40LAUGHTER
00:59:41Oh, you and him?
00:59:44What?
00:59:46You in for it?
00:59:47Come on, down.
00:59:48APPLAUSE
00:59:49All right, all right, all right, all right.
01:00:09Go Robert!
01:00:09Go Robert!
01:00:10Go Robert!
01:00:11Go Robert!
01:00:12Go Robert!
01:00:13Go Robert!
01:00:14Go Robert!
01:00:19Everybody win!
01:00:20That is good.
01:00:22That is good.
01:00:27When Raymond left for Hollywood, me and my brother Bobby decided to put a little note
01:00:41in his suitcase, because we were going to miss him, you know?
01:00:44And I didn't hear anything, and neither did my brother Robert, for nine years.
01:00:48I didn't know if he read it.
01:00:51And then the final show comes, and it was very, very dramatic and, you know, emotional.
01:00:59And in his speech, he says, I want to read something.
01:01:04This is a little note that my brother, both my brothers gave me when I got a beefing New York.
01:01:12I'm saying, oh, my God, you saved it?
01:01:14They snuck this into my luggage.
01:01:18What I wrote to him was, I hope you remember this verse, what does it profit a man?
01:01:25He gains the whole world but loses his soul.
01:01:29He had tears in his eyes, and he goes, I hope I did that, God.
01:01:35And it was very moving, and I think he did.
01:01:38I think God would be very happy with him.
01:01:40Thank you so much for being with us tonight.
01:01:49We're so thrilled to be with you.
01:01:51We owe everything to you guys.
01:01:52You know, when we started, it was a show about a family, four families.
01:01:57And after a little while, it was being made by a family.
01:02:00What you don't see are all the people that really made the show with us, some of whom we haven't seen since we went off the air.
01:02:09So if we could, let's bring most of them out.
01:02:22I thought I got the joke.
01:02:36That's right.
01:02:42Now, one little more thing we want to share with the audience.
01:02:50It's kind of like a gag reel.
01:02:52So we want to share that with you and with everybody who made the show.
01:02:57What?
01:02:59What's wrong?
01:03:00What happened?
01:03:02You kicked me.
01:03:06I did?
01:03:07Oh, right in the garden of good and evil.
01:03:11Right in Geppetto's workshop.
01:03:13Right in Granny's apples.
01:03:15Right in the hard rock cafe.
01:03:17You know where I had to go for this suit?
01:03:21Wherever it was.
01:03:22I'll bet it was dark.
01:03:24I'm just a simple man who tried to make a difference.
01:03:27I still put my pants on one leg at a time.
01:03:28Yeah, but you should stop when they reach your nipples.
01:03:33You know where I had to go for this suit?
01:03:34A little shop of horrors.
01:03:35A little shop of horrors.
01:03:36A little shop of horrors.
01:03:37Okay.
01:03:38Okay.
01:03:39Come on.
01:03:40Come on.
01:03:41Come on, man.
01:03:42Come on.

01:03:44Come on.
01:03:45Come on, man.
01:03:46Come on.
01:03:47Come on.
01:03:48Come on.
01:03:49Come on.
01:03:50Come on, man.
01:03:51I still put my pants on one leg at a time.
01:03:53Come on.
01:03:54You know where I had to go for this suit?
01:03:56A little shop of horrors.
01:03:57Okay.
01:03:58Come on.
01:03:59Come on, man.
01:04:00Now, all that remains is the issue of if we should be granted guardianship in the event
01:04:15that both of you die at the same time.
01:04:17Whoa.
01:04:18Slow down.
01:04:19We're still trying to have an orgasm at the same time.
01:04:20You know where I had to go for this suit?
01:04:34Hmm?
01:04:35Goldens?
01:04:36That's right.
01:04:37Hey, Marie, I knew you named them, but I didn't know you fed them.
01:04:49It's like I've entered a world where ladies want Ray.
01:04:55Ray Bird.
01:04:56Ray Bird.
01:04:57Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:04:58Ray Bird.
01:04:59Ray Bird.
01:05:00You know what?
01:05:01With your penis and my money, we're unstoppable.
01:05:02You better have a lot of money.
01:05:06You better have a lot of money.
01:05:07To be honest, Deborah, it's not a style I'd ever wear.
01:05:19Nice try though.
01:05:21Put it on.
01:05:23Everybody.
01:05:24Want to say goodbye?
01:05:25I do.
01:05:26I want to say, I want to say to all of you and to all of you, I used to say this to Ray all the time, thanks for the good life.
01:05:47Yeah.
01:05:48And we wish the same to all of you.
01:05:51Thank you, everybody.
01:05:52Thank you, everybody.
