00:00Today marks the beginning of the end of an era of medical dogma on nutrition.
00:06For decades we've been fed a corrupt food pyramid that has had a myopic focus on demonizing
00:13natural healthy saturated fats, telling you not to eat eggs and steak and ignoring a giant
00:19blind spot.
00:21Refined carbohydrates, added sugars, ultra processed food.
00:25This study in JAMA now shows that 60% to 70% of kids are getting their calories from ultra
00:33processed foods.
00:35That's an epidemic.
00:36We now have a generation of kids addicted to refined carbohydrates, low in protein.
00:44They are literally nitrogen negative because we've used old flawed studies that used urine
00:50nitrogen to estimate body protein metabolism and they missed the mark.
00:56The old guidelines had such a low protein recommendation that we are increasing that by 50 to 100%.
01:03Kids need protein.
01:05The old protein guidelines were to prevent starvation and withering away.
01:11These new protein guidelines are designed for American kids to thrive.
01:16And they're based on science, not on dogma.
01:19We have 40% of our kids now with a chronic disease.
01:24It is not their fault.
01:26This is something that is the result of bad advice from the government and a medical establishment
01:32that for decades peddled research from a flawed 1960s model.
01:38Today we are setting the record straight.
01:41This is not a willpower problem of our nation's kids.
01:44This is something adults have done to kids and we're going to fix it.
01:48And so, as Dr. Oz said, the best way to lower drug prices is for people to stop taking drugs
01:54they don't need.
01:56We are going to finally address the root causes of our broken healthcare system.
02:01Insulin resistance and general body inflammation advanced by the protein-poor, micronutrient-poor,
02:08ultra processed, refined carbohydrate diet that kids are addicted to today.
02:14And so, on behalf of the Food and Drug Administration, we are proud to be a part of this.
02:20We are grateful to be contributing to this work.
02:23Thank you, Secretary Rollins.
02:25Thank you, Kyle Diamantis, the best deputy commissioner for food at the FDA the agency has ever had.
02:33This is a historic day in America.
02:34This is a historic day in America.
