00:00So shortly before midday today, Wollongong PD Police arrived here on scene at
00:05Picton Road to a six-vehicle accident. That would be five cars, one truck.
00:11Multiple patients were treated at the scene by New South Wales Ambulance.
00:16The roadway is currently closed and will be for some hours while
00:21our investigators continue their investigation and crime scene continue
00:25to process the scene. The 44-year-old male in the silver Toyota Kaluga is in a
00:34serious condition and has been airlifted to Liverpool Hospital. The remaining
00:38drivers were in non-life-threatening injuries and have all been
00:43conveyed by a road to Wollongong Hospital.
00:45Stated by police, we were tasked to an incident on Picton Road. Initial reports
00:51were a nine-car or nine-vehicle, motor vehicle accident. On arrival, as you can
00:57see, the scene is pretty chaotic and spread out over a long distance. It's over
01:03approximately 130 metres. After we've gone through and carried out our initial
01:08triage, we found that there was five cars involved and one truck. It appears the
01:14driver, a 44-year-old male, has veered onto the wrong side of the road due to a
01:19medical episode and the truck has tried to avoid it, hitting the guardrail and then
01:24run back into traffic. As a result of that, we've got one serious injury male that's
01:29been airlifted to Liverpool Hospital. His wife has been transported to Liverpool
01:35Hospital and out of further assessment, we've transported four other patients to
01:40Wollongong Hospital for various medical conditions. As a result, we've been out in
01:46the sun and the incident itself.
