A veteran snake catcher bitten by both a red-bellied black snake and a tiger snake has shared the simple mistake she said often leads Aussies to dangerous reptile encounters.

00:00You've got a high chance of getting bitten if you engage with a snake and you become agitated and aggressive towards that snake.
00:08It's going to defend itself in any way possible.
00:11And so therefore the greatest risk is harm to the human.
00:17But the snake has its benefit and honestly they don't want to be around people.
00:21And we all say it, all the handlers say it, they don't want to be around us.
00:24They're much happier to run than actually engage with us at all.
00:30When you go for a walk you want your snake bandage and your mobile phone.
00:34They're the two most essential things you can possibly have if you're out on your own, even if you're not out on your own.
00:40Your bandage is multi-use, it doesn't just do snake bite, it does bleeds, it does fractures, it does pretty much multi-use.
00:50But your phone is your lifeline and the first thing you want is an ambulance.
