00:00Trump now has his very own oil empire.
00:03Oil, the oil, the oil, oil, oil, oil, oil.
00:06And I'm not talking about the world's largest oil reserve in Venezuela,
00:10but about actual barrels of the stuff.
00:13Let's do the math.
00:14Take first U.S. oil production, which will be booming with or without Trump.
00:18Then add Venezuela and the rest of Latin America.
00:22Oh, and Canada.
00:24Like it or not, all of those countries now fall under the Don Roe Doctrine.
00:28Washington's increasingly belligerent sphere of influence over the Americas.
00:33Together, they account for nearly 40% of the world's oil output.
00:38No president has had that kind of economic and political influence since FDR in the 1940s.
00:46With the capture of Nicolas Maduro, the U.S. could now try to exert direct control in Venezuela,
00:52or maybe just try to oversee or influence it.
00:56Either way, having de facto control of the Western Hemisphere's
01:00petroleum wealth is a geopolitical game changer.
01:04For months, Russia has done all access to his oil reserves
01:08as a carrot in negotiations with the White House.
01:12Now, Trump can tell Putin he doesn't need access to the Siberian oil field.
01:17For the new U.S. foreign oil policy, every oil-rich country in Latin America is important.
01:23But the price of Venezuela is enormous.
01:26The country was once the world's largest oil exporter, and over time, it can increase production.
01:32All that's needed to unlock again this potential is time, money, and effort.
01:38But Venezuela is really using icing on the cake for the U.S.
01:42Because we have already seen what happens when oil doesn't constrain the Pentagon.
01:47Bombing Iranian nuclear facilities or helping Ukraine to target Russian oil refineries
01:53will have been unthinkable in the past.
01:55Grabbing Maduro from Caracas is the latest and most shocking example.
02:00We can see the next one.

02:14Are there any other options in this approach for the U.S.?
