00:08The JNUSU has spoken out over the Kabar Khudegi chance,
00:13suggesting Delibroote's effort to mischaracterize a vigil,
00:18bid to deflect from real issues,
00:20organized attempt to defame JNU.
00:23We have a constitutional right to dissent.
00:25So, once again, the university is where not the management of the students' body
00:32has said that this is a clear attempt to misrepresent
00:37what the students in JNU actually did, which was protest.
00:41It was a vigil and there is a deliberate effort to mischaracterize what was sheer protest.
00:50They say that this is an organized attempt to defame JNU.
00:53Once again, the student body also says we have a constitutional right to dissent.

01:07Well, Preeti, this is a statement that's officially now coming from JNU.
01:11So, we've been speaking to them since precedent.
01:14They very categorically say that yesterday's event was a vigil.
01:17It was to commemorate the anniversary of the attack that took place in JNU in 2020 on the 5th of January.
01:24And because the Supreme Court judgment had also come in against Omar Khalid and Shahjil Imam,
01:29so that was also discussed.
01:30So, clearly, in that very emotion, there were sloganeerings that did happen,
01:35which they did not really deflect from.
01:38That was agreed by all the members of the Student Union.
01:41But they say that this sloganeering cannot be looked at independently.
01:47It is about how they wanted to condemn an ideology.

02:23whose breaking news, the student body has come out with an official statement
02:27saying that this is an attempt to completely turn the picture,
02:33a deliberate bid to mischaracterise what was pure ideological dissent
02:39into something far more sinister.
02:42And though chants were raised, they are not deflecting from that,
02:46but they said that they were merely raised as a protest sign and a sign of dissent,
02:51which is their constitutional right.
02:54And there is now a propaganda to malign the JNU students
02:59for indulging in something which the students had absolutely no idea about
03:06or something that they wanted to portray.
03:09So they are saying whatever has happened yesterday
03:12has been mischaracterised, misrepresented,
03:16and this wasn't the intention.
03:18It was purely a protest vigil,
03:20and it is their right to register dissent.
