00:00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Well, it may be dry January for some, but our cup overfloweth on Match of the Day tonight.
00:00:50Six games from a brizzy Premier League Sunday, as well as December's Goal of the Month and all the goals from yesterday.
00:00:56And joining me, Shea Given, and making his Match of the Day debut, Gary O'Neill, who scored twice on his Premier League debut.
00:01:02So we are hoping for a similar performance tonight.
00:01:04Yeah, it went all downhill from there, but yeah, it was a good start.
00:01:07No pressure, no pressure.
00:01:08A win for Arsenal yesterday opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the table.
00:01:13Manchester City were looking to reduce that gap against managerless Chelsea, who parted company with Enzo Mareska on New Year's Day.
00:01:19Steve Wilson was at the Etihad.
00:01:21In his long managerial career in three countries, Pep Guardiola has never gone successive seasons without winning a league title.
00:01:31That record is under threat.
00:01:33They sit seven points behind Arsenal.
00:01:36It's eight seasons since Chelsea were champions, in which time they've had six full-time managers.
00:01:41Another is incoming.
00:01:42City make three changes to the XI, which drew at Sunderland on New Year's Day.
00:01:49In come Guardiola, Rodri and Reinders for Ake, Nico Gonzalez and Savinho.
00:01:54Callum McFarlane's time in charge of Chelsea will be short, but he makes five changes to the draw with Bournemouth.
00:02:01Caicedo is suspended again.
00:02:03Sanchez injured, Fofana ill.
00:02:05In come Jürgensen, Badia Shield, James, Pedro Neto and Jrau Pedro.
00:02:09Chelsea have lost eight of their last ten games in this stadium, in all competitions.
00:02:18And I don't think many people would favour them here today.
00:02:23Estevão for Chelsea finds Enzo Fernandes.
00:02:26Pedro Neto is on.
00:02:28Here he is.
00:02:29Matthias Nunez ahead of him.
00:02:34Good ball in that and a chance for Estevão.
00:02:37It's blocked really well by Guardiola.
00:02:41That's the best chance of the game so far and it goes Chelsea's way.
00:02:45And now Manchester City have the situation under control.
00:02:50And that's a great ball from Matthias Nunez.
00:02:52What a pass that is.
00:02:54Erling Haaland arriving.
00:02:55Phil Foden arriving.
00:02:57Here's Foden.
00:02:58Brilliantly done.
00:03:01Well, this would have been a sensational counter-attacking goal.
00:03:05Great awareness by Foden.
00:03:09Well, they've done really well, Chelsea.
00:03:11They've defended sturdily.
00:03:13Bernardo Silva trying to twist Gusto.
00:03:22And he's succeeded in doing so.
00:03:24And he gets the shot away.
00:03:27Well, great work in a very small area from Bernardo Silva.
00:03:32Manages to work that bit of space quite beautifully.
00:03:36Gets a bit of curl but not enough dip.
00:03:43Cherokee's header.
00:03:46Rodri, Foden, Haaland.
00:03:50Deflected.
00:03:51And really well saved by Jürgensen.
00:03:55That big deflection could well have looped over the top of the Chelsea keeper.
00:04:00But he's adjusted here to make a very good save, Philipp Jürgensen.
00:04:04Heavy touch from Achenpong but Jürgensen is there.
00:04:19He's only held it up.
00:04:21Rodri.
00:04:23And Erling Haaland.
00:04:24Oh, goodness me.
00:04:28You don't get any closer than that.
00:04:32Chelsea get a throw in.
00:04:36And the post gets a rattling from Haaland.
00:04:41Oh, brilliant, really.
00:04:43Very unlucky.
00:04:45His next goal will be his 150th for the club.
00:04:49It won't be long in coming, that's for sure.
00:04:51Chelsea have given the ball away.
00:05:01And Cherokee exchanges the touch with Rodri.
00:05:06Badier-Shield's touch.
00:05:09Reinders!
00:05:13Great finish.
00:05:14That is a pretty devastating finish from Tijani, Reinders.
00:05:21And Manchester City break the deadlock.
00:05:24With four minutes of the first half remaining.
00:05:28Well, this really is a splendid goal.
00:05:31Haaland, the threat, Badier-Shield kept it from him but played it straight into Reinders.
00:05:36Is there a little flick of the Chelsea defender as it goes in?
00:05:42Reinders hits it beautifully.
00:05:43It might just be a touch off the toe of Badier-Shield.
00:05:49But it flew into the roof of the net.
00:05:51And Manchester City lead by a goal to nil.
00:05:57O'Reilly's cushioned header down.
00:05:58Gusto's nicked it away from Rodri.
00:06:01Well won back by Guardiola.
00:06:03Now Rodri.
00:06:04And Cole Palmer.
00:06:12Guardiola is down.
00:06:14Enzo Fernandes to Palmer's left.
00:06:16And he plays him in.
00:06:17Enzo Fernandes.
00:06:18Lovely little pirouette.
00:06:20And Pedro Neto has missed it.
00:06:22With the goal gaping.
00:06:23And it really should be one each.
00:06:28Well, Guardiola was on the ground throughout that whole Chelsea attack.
00:06:33Which should have resulted in an equalising goal.
00:06:35Enzo Fernandes did well here.
00:06:41And Pedro Neto simply has to get that on target.
00:06:45Enzo Fernandes got a boot in.
00:06:52But Bernardo Silva would not be denied.
00:06:54Erling Haaland here.
00:06:56Great pace.
00:06:57Tearing away from Canaver.
00:06:59Brilliant run.
00:06:59Good block.
00:07:03Haaland still.
00:07:04Well, O'Reilly has failed to keep the ball in play.
00:07:15I'll talk about explosive here.
00:07:17Erling Haaland collecting the ball.
00:07:20A couple of metres inside his own half.
00:07:22And just driving on with enormous threat.
00:07:27Good block by Badia Shield.
00:07:30Gianluigi Donnarumma forward to Erling Haaland.
00:07:33Beautifully cushioned.
00:07:35Cherky.
00:07:36He's got the pace to get away from Santos.
00:07:38Bernardo Silva's there.
00:07:39Brilliant recovery from Harto.
00:07:42Well, that's outstanding.
00:07:45Great flick here from Erling Haaland.
00:07:48Good pace by Cherky.
00:07:49Too much for Andres Santos.
00:07:51Look how much ground Jor-El Harto made up.
00:07:54Dilap and Coltama and Enzo Fernandes getting forward.
00:08:06Here's Jor-El Harto.
00:08:07And Dilap, good turn, tight angle, Donnarumma save.
00:08:18And those nagging doubts about these three points from Manchester City continue.
00:08:25Chelsea have arguably been the more dangerous side in the second half.
00:08:29Well snubbered by the Italian.
00:08:32Certainly some anxiety around the Etihad right now as Enzo Fernandes finds Pedro Neto.
00:08:44And Jor-El Harto.
00:08:47Harto's cross missed by Cole Palmer.
00:08:50And Dilap couldn't get anything really meaningful on it.
00:08:56That was a real opportunity for Cole Palmer.
00:09:00Chelsea have taken only two points from their last eight league games against Manchester City.
00:09:05They still live in hope of getting one from this.
00:09:08Reece James.
00:09:09Six minutes were indicated.
00:09:10Three of them have been played.
00:09:12Here's Gusto.
00:09:12Oh, excellent.
00:09:14Got away from O'Reilly.
00:09:15There's four in the middle for Chelsea.
00:09:17Gusto.
00:09:18Dilap couldn't get there.
00:09:19Surely from Enzo Fernandes for Chelsea.
00:09:23It's 1-1 in stoppage time.
00:09:26And you cannot say they don't deserve it.
00:09:31Donnarumma is beaten.
00:09:33Fernandes scores.
00:09:34Chelsea and Arsenal celebrate an Enzo Fernandes equaliser.
00:09:40There is a check, of course, possible offside.
00:09:48Enzo Fernandes, at the second attempt, trodded it into the back of the net.
00:09:54And the goal will stand.
00:09:58It's Manchester City 1-1.
00:10:00Chelsea 1-1.
00:10:03Pep, very frustrating finish to the game.
00:10:05It felt like the control got away from you a little bit.
00:10:09Because first half, you were 1-0 up.
00:10:12It could have been more.
00:10:13The control go away for what?
00:10:14Well, I felt you were completely in control of the game at halftime.
00:10:19And they changed shape a little bit.
00:10:21And the momentum of the game changed a bit.
00:10:24I'm not agreed.
00:10:25But it's OK.
00:10:26They scored a goal.
00:10:27That's why you analyze the results.
00:10:29So, of course, they make a step up.
00:10:30We make it more intense in the pressing.
00:10:32They had the chances because we lost two balls in the beginning of the second half.
00:10:37But if you believe they achieved the momentum, OK, you maybe know better than me.
00:10:42We started really well, especially the first half.
00:10:45The second half, it was a bit more open and went more up and down.
00:10:48And still, we created some big opportunities.
00:10:50And, yeah, disappointed that we conceded the goal so late.
00:10:55So, we all know what the week we've had.
00:10:57But the boys were focused.
00:10:59And, yeah, in life, you either drop your heads or you keep going.
00:11:03And for us, we knew what the game plan was today.
00:11:06We knew what we wanted.
00:11:07And, yeah, we done well to get the point.
00:11:09It's credit to the players.
00:11:10Like, imagine what they're feeling at halftime.
00:11:13Manchester City would have a much better team in the first half.
00:11:16Interim coach, all the change that's gone on, all the injuries we've had.
00:11:19But the character they've shown.
00:11:20And they've shown it all week.
00:11:21Like, Rhys, Enzo, Tosin.
00:11:23And the leaders in the group have really pulled it together.
00:11:26So, it's a special, special group of players.
00:11:29A frustrated Pep Guardiola there because City have dropped four points in their last two matches.
00:11:34But Callum McFarlane there had a game plan to frustrate them.
00:11:37And it worked largely in the first half.
00:11:39Yeah, a rookie manager, you know, one chance in a lifetime to managing his Pep Guardiola, perhaps.
00:11:43Away at the edge, he had nothing to lose.
00:11:45But he had a game plan, he definitely had.
00:11:46And City couldn't find a way through.
00:11:48They did eventually with rounders.
00:11:49But at the same time, this was a game plan here.
00:11:51We've seen this for most of the first half.
00:11:53You see a 5-4-1 formation, Gabby.
00:11:55And now you're asking City, can they, are they good enough to play through these lines?
00:11:59Play through the fourths.
00:12:00They're really nice and compact.
00:12:01And you know, you know, Callum McFarlane would have worked on this, you know, leading up to the game.
00:12:04It's a big day for him.
00:12:06But again, there's a lot of turmoil.
00:12:07He says it's at the football club.
00:12:08But there's a clear message.
00:12:08You see the five again.
00:12:10This time, Rinders, Rinders receives the ball.
00:12:13Achimpong jumps out.
00:12:15But you see then, this opportunity, they do get in.
00:12:17But again, they've got enough players back in a defensive position to clear the danger.
00:12:21You see in the middle, we'll see Haaland.
00:12:22You know, 2v1, there's plenty of bodies back, enough to defend the cross.
00:12:26And again, they look comfortable for long periods of the first half, defending against a Manchester City, who we know how good they are going forward.
00:12:33I said to Gary Offer, I said, at some stage, you'll have to feel a punch when you go to Manchester.
00:12:37You see here, they commit six bodies forward, Gabby.
00:12:40That's great if you can get a shot off or get a goal.
00:12:42But what it does do, if you won the tackle, which they do in the edge of the box, now you're buying in trouble.
00:12:47They do get away because they won the tackle high up the pitch.
00:12:49And you think they've escaped the danger.
00:12:51But they never go back into that 5-4-1 formation that we spoke about just previously.
00:12:56And City, again, we know how decisive they are in the forward positions.
00:12:59They move the ball really quickly, get forward.
00:13:01And again, there's a bit of luck at the end of this because it comes off the defender.
00:13:05You see a 4v4 high up the pitch.
00:13:07They're really stretched now at this point, Chelsea.
00:13:08But they nearly get away.
00:13:09A bit of luck, a bit of break.
00:13:11And you think Reinders on your left foot.
00:13:13You know, it's a brilliant finish from him because he's right-footed.
00:13:15And it's a fantastic finish.
00:13:16But again, defensively, I think Chelsea were really strong today in that first half.
00:13:21Pep might have alluded to that.
00:13:22He didn't think there was a momentum shift.
00:13:24But we certainly think there was one.
00:13:25Because 1-0 down at half-time, McFarlane wasn't afraid to make tactical changes.
00:13:29No, I think fair play to him because the easiest part of a manager's job is when you've got time.
00:13:33So when you've got the week to build your prep, like the bit that Shea's just covered there,
00:13:37you've got days to work on that on the training ground.
00:13:39But when it's match day and it's half-time and you're 1-0 down and you need to make a call,
00:13:43he didn't back out of making that call.
00:13:44You know, to take Esteval off, to shift the shape.
00:13:48You can see it here.
00:13:49They've moved Gusto back into his high right-back position rather than being on the left.
00:13:54Esteval has been withdrawn.
00:13:55They've put Santos on to play in that double pivot.
00:13:57And it's allowed Enzo to play higher up the pitch.
00:14:00And then he used that freedom, Enzo, to call Man City real problems.
00:14:03You see here they regain the ball.
00:14:05Cole Palmer rolled in off this right-hand side like he did so well against PSG in the Club World Cup.
00:14:10And now Enzo just using that running power, you know, and he's able to break forward and show great quality.
00:14:15And then Neto will be disappointed with that because I know he's better than that from those areas.
00:14:19And then the introduction of Liam De Lappe as well had a real impact on the game.
00:14:24Caused the centre-backs of Manchester City problems.
00:14:26You see Enzo again here with that running power driving the team forward.
00:14:29Wouldn't have been able to do that in the first half from the lower position he was in.
00:14:33Bit of a longer clip, but they managed to sustain the pressure.
00:14:36Get Enzo on the ball again in a high position and a great ball into Liam De Lappe.
00:14:40And he did cause the centre-backs problems when he came on, Liam.
00:14:42Although Manchester City did lose their two in Guardiola and in Diaz,
00:14:48they did cause the two that came on real problems.
00:14:51And then Gusto, high right-back, he's much better on that side than he is on the left.
00:14:5594th minute, Enzo still using his power and his running power to get himself in a position
00:15:00that allows Chelsea to take a well-earned point away from the Etihad,
00:15:04which is no mean feat for an interim manager on his first day in charge.
00:15:07Yeah, his sixth goal of the season. Look what it means to him there.
00:15:10And there were some lovely scenes at the end as well, we saw with Rhys James obviously making him go over to the Chelsea fans.
00:15:15And you can see as a manager, that must be enormously gratifying when you see the difference your changes have made.
00:15:20Yeah, and that should not be underestimated because that's difficult.
00:15:23He alluded to it in his post-match speech there around how the players would be feeling.
00:15:28You know, you've been completely dominated by Manchester City, you just do that to teams.
00:15:32And then to be able to make a change and be able to make the players believe in that change,
00:15:36and then to produce numbers like that, XG, shots, everything up, touches in the opposition box.
00:15:42So Pep might not have felt the momentum change quite so much, but the stats definitely showed that there was one.
00:15:47Yeah, it might be a short tenure as interim manager because reports are, and we understand that,
00:15:52Liam Rossini is already in London, ready to be announced as Chelsea manager tomorrow,
00:15:56the Strasbourg manager currently, where he's been managing and doing fairly well, Shea, as well.
00:16:02153 matches in his managerial career today, including Hull.
00:16:06So not the most experienced.
00:16:08No, but I think this is Liam's dream.
00:16:10I think all his life is that he's managed at the very highest level.
00:16:12And at Chelsea is one of the biggest jobs you'll get in the Premier League, and maybe in world football.
00:16:17And I think he's ready.
00:16:18You say he's managed 153 games.
00:16:20He's done his apprenticeship, and he's ready to go.
00:16:22He managed a young Strasbourg team as well.
00:16:25Got them into European competition.
00:16:27And I think he'll be buzzing.
00:16:29You talk about the squad of players that Chelsea have.
00:16:31I know they've spent a lot of money, but they've spent well.
00:16:34He's worked with young players at Strasbourg before, and I think he's eager.
00:16:37Did he jump into this position?
00:16:38The group own Strasbourg and Chelsea.
00:16:40They know how he works.
00:16:42They like the way he sets his team up there.
00:16:43He knows how they work.
00:16:44That's important, isn't it?
00:16:45Yeah, it will be important, and that will be a key part to him taking the role, I think.
00:16:48And he's, you know, the Premier League's tough, and he'll find that out.
00:16:52But it's much easier doing it with Chelsea and the top players that you have available to you.
00:16:56There may be an introduction to the Premier League for a promotion with a newly promoted side.
00:16:59So he's going to get a fantastic opportunity at a top club.
00:17:03And obviously we'll see very soon whether he's ready to grasp it.
00:17:07Five more games to come from Sunday after December's Goal of the Month.
00:17:11It's Cherky again.
00:17:22Pass comes here to Diaz.
00:17:24He's slammed out there.
00:17:24What a goal!
00:17:28What a strike!
00:17:29That was Vincent Kompany-esque.
00:17:32Well, it was a belter.
00:17:33Oh, what a goal!
00:17:50The link-up play is absolutely sumptuous here.
00:17:55It is perfection.
00:17:56A bit of space here for Morgan Rodgers.
00:18:06Might have a go at goal!
00:18:07And it's a brilliant strike as well!
00:18:14Rodgers in a lot of space.
00:18:16And how about that for a finish?
00:18:17It's Senghori who clears!
00:18:30Oh!
00:18:30What a hit from Senghori!
00:18:36What a strike!
00:18:37Well, that's an absolute belter.
00:18:39Always looks good, doesn't it, when he comes in off the post.
00:18:42What a free kick, which Chelsea hope will be a profitable one.
00:18:50Rhys James!
00:18:51Oh, it is!
00:18:53It's outstanding from Rhys James!
00:18:58Because that was inch-perfect.
00:19:06What a game!
00:19:07Leaving the ball in a precarious position, but he's kept hold of it.
00:19:12And Morgan Rodgers has kept it in.
00:19:15Head down.
00:19:16It's Rodgers!
00:19:20It's an absolute ripper!
00:19:23He should never score from there.
00:19:25From that position, Rodgers in red-hot form.
00:19:33Dallon with the long throw.
00:19:37Valtimard is headed.
00:19:38Dorku!
00:19:39Dorku!
00:19:39Dorku!
00:19:42Dorku!
00:19:43Dorku!
00:19:44What a memorable way to score your first Manchester United goal!
00:19:48Where have you been?
00:19:51Can you feel it?
00:19:52Can you feel it?
00:19:53Can you feel it?
00:19:54Can you feel it like this morning?
00:19:56It's depressing.
00:19:57I can't believe it.
00:19:58I can't believe it.
00:19:59I can't believe it.
00:20:00I can't believe it.
00:20:01I can't believe it.
00:20:02It's did that well, though.
00:20:03Stack.
00:20:04Super ball from him.
00:20:06And to Aronson.
00:20:07And to Aronson.
00:20:11And this forward here leads.
00:20:12Aronson.
00:20:13Calvert-Lewin!
00:20:20It's a fabulous team goal.
00:20:22Calvert-Lewin's incredible streak in front of goal continues.

00:20:49Having won three of their last four, Fulham faced a Liverpool side unbeaten in seven in the Premier League.
00:20:54Stephen Wyeth, watch this one.
00:20:58As the temperature has plummeted, Fulham and Liverpool have stayed hot.
00:21:02Two form sides.
00:21:04The hosts endeavour to keep it up with three changes.
00:21:07Kenny Tete is injured, so Timothy Castagna replaces him.
00:21:10Issa Diop returns and Tom Kearney's reward for the equaliser at Palace is a rare league start.
00:21:17Liverpool's form is their best since spring, but they too are stretched.
00:21:21A minor hamstring issue means no Ugo Eketike.
00:21:24Cody Gagpo starts instead.
00:21:26Alexis McAllister and Milos Kerkis replace Jeremy Fringpong and Andy Robinson.
00:21:36Underway a bit behind schedule today at Craven Cottage.
00:21:39A 15 minute delay due to a medical emergency.
00:21:43Not necessarily a fixture you would associate with Premier League heritage, but Fulham against Liverpool in recent times has been a blast.
00:21:53Curtis Jones.
00:21:56Gagpo's made his run and the flag has stayed down.
00:21:59Cody Gagpo is in.
00:22:00And the shot has only just bobbled wide.
00:22:05And that's the kind of chance that really should have at least resulted in a testing of the Fulham goalkeeper.
00:22:12Bernd Leno could watch it go harmlessly wide.
00:22:15And on the slot side on their best run of unbeaten form since their last visit to Craven Cottage.
00:22:25And Fulham ended a 26-match run unbeaten with a 3-2 win.
00:22:31A lovely flip, Raul Jimenez.
00:22:35Wilson is in here.
00:22:36And has fired in but from an offside position.
00:22:41Well Fulham have really bided their time before looking to pounce on Liverpool.
00:22:47And it very nearly happened for them perfectly.
00:22:51Raul Jimenez towards Wilson now.
00:22:54That is going to require a much, much closer inspection.
00:22:59On-field decision was offside.
00:23:03But now the VAR Andy Madley is going to get involved.
00:23:07Because Virgil van Dijk and Milos Kerkhez both look like they might have been playing Wilson onside.
00:23:14And Fulham are about to receive some very good news.
00:23:19Some very welcome news.
00:23:22Because the on-field decision was wrong and Fulham do lead.
00:23:27Courtesy of a former Liverpool player.
00:23:31Harry Wilson in sparkling recent form in front of goal has scored again.
00:23:37Well for a moment it looked like it was too good to be true when Wilson was bearing down on goal.
00:23:42That was certainly the initial verdict of the referee's assistant.
00:23:49But confirmation Virgil van Dijk the one that was playing him on.
00:23:54And that splendid finish beyond the reach of Alisson is the goal to make it Fulham 1 Liverpool 0.
00:24:00Since the start of November only the top three in the Premier League have picked up more points than Fulham.
00:24:08Fulham remains an option.
00:24:15Fulham remain well organised.
00:24:18From Jobos Light.
00:24:19Charged down by Smithrow.
00:24:20Corner kick.
00:24:21Jobos Light.
00:24:22And headed against the crossbar.
00:24:23Anderson there.
00:24:24Now appeals for a penalty.
00:24:25Fulham survive.
00:24:27McAllister head in hands.
00:24:28Knows how close he was to levelling things up.
00:24:36Bradley.
00:24:37Bradley
00:24:45Bradley.
00:24:46Bradley.
00:24:47Knows how close he was to levelling things up.
00:24:57Bradley.
00:24:58Pouncing on a loose ball and driving at Fulham.
00:25:01And finding Florian Verts.
00:25:05And once again,
00:25:08as the ball finds the back of the net,
00:25:11Liverpool discover that it was from an offside position.
00:25:14Florian Verts this time.
00:25:16The unlucky player in red.
00:25:19And apparently did tremendously well.
00:25:21Arguably deserved an assist for his contribution.
00:25:23But Verts was just beyond Issa Diop.
00:25:27This is just being cleared up.
00:25:30Just in case.
00:25:32Diop's trailing leg was beyond
00:25:34the outstretched right boot of Florian Verts at the critical moment.
00:25:41Once again,
00:25:42the on-field decision is going to be overturned.
00:25:45And Liverpool have an equaliser.
00:25:48And Florian Verts has another Liverpool goal.
00:25:51It has been delivered at a critical moment.
00:25:56Belated jubilation in the away end.
00:25:58It's a muted celebration from Liverpool,
00:26:00who know there is still work to be done.
00:26:02Issa Diop adjudged to have just been playing.
00:26:07Florian Verts onside.
00:26:10And just as in the first half of Fulham,
00:26:13Liverpool's goal has taken some unpicking.
00:26:15But the decision is to award it.
00:26:18And it's Fulham won.
00:26:19Liverpool won.
00:26:24We'll want more than a point now.
00:26:26So dominant have his side been in this second half.
00:26:29Bradley.
00:26:32Yes, sir.
00:26:33Go, go, go, go, go, go.
00:26:35Robinson
00:26:36Superpass
00:26:39Val Jimenez
00:26:40Looks to be in
00:26:42Alisson has come
00:26:43Not dealt with it
00:26:44Wilson
00:26:44Off the bar
00:26:47Who'll get there first
00:26:48Virgil van Dijk
00:26:49So close Fulham to regaining the leap
00:26:53The direct approach
00:26:55Nearly working so effectively
00:26:58Harry Wilson looking to add to his first half goal
00:27:01Denied by the crossbar
00:27:03And van Dijk it was
00:27:05Who made sure that he got to the loose ball
00:27:08The unbeaten runs have taken Liverpool into the top four
00:27:12And Fulham into European contention themselves
00:27:15Which of the two
00:27:16Has the greater desire
00:27:18In the quality
00:27:19To turn
00:27:21The draw into three points
00:27:24Time running out
00:27:26But there is still time
00:27:28Kravendare
00:27:30And Bradley
00:27:34For Frimpong
00:27:36Quality cross required
00:27:37And that is a quality cross
00:27:40Which looks to have produced a match winning moment for Cody Gapot
00:27:46Liverpool lead
00:27:51Having been behind
00:27:53And in stoppage time
00:27:55At Craven Cottage
00:27:56Appeared to have got the job done
00:27:58The man asked to fulfil the role
00:28:01Of centre forward today
00:28:03Has responded with a goal
00:28:05At a critical moment
00:28:06Of vicious delivery
00:28:08That Gapot was alert to
00:28:11Showing the instincts required
00:28:15To step forward
00:28:17Late on in the game
00:28:18And score for Liverpool
00:28:21A goal
00:28:21That looks to have secured for them
00:28:24A fifth win in eight
00:28:25Having scored
00:28:30And having been cautioned
00:28:31As a consequence
00:28:32Cody Gapot is going to be withdrawn
00:28:35But he can leave
00:28:37With the acclaim
00:28:38Of the travelling support
00:28:39They feel as though
00:28:41It's job done
00:28:42Robinson's throw
00:28:49To Kevin
00:28:50And then we'll feel
00:28:53Defeat is harsh on them
00:28:55Harrison Reid
00:28:55From distance
00:28:56An exceptional goal
00:29:01From the most
00:29:02Unlocally source
00:29:04A how
00:29:06And well
00:29:07Moment
00:29:07From Harrison Reid
00:29:08Just as the points
00:29:11Look gone
00:29:11For Fulham
00:29:12They have responded
00:29:14Almost immediately
00:29:16In the groove
00:29:17But they simply
00:29:18Don't know at the moment
00:29:19When they are beaten
00:29:20Sent on
00:29:22To provide
00:29:24Some midfield
00:29:25Energy late in the game
00:29:26And instead
00:29:27It is Harrison Reid
00:29:29Who has scored
00:29:31The most
00:29:31Improbable
00:29:33Late equaliser
00:29:34A near perfect strike
00:29:36Better than anything
00:29:37He could possibly
00:29:38Have dreamed
00:29:39Of delivering
00:29:39An exceptional goal
00:29:42To make it
00:29:43Fulham to
00:29:44Liverpool to
00:29:45Have you ever hit a ball
00:29:48Better than that
00:29:49It fell nice off the foot
00:29:50And then I was just praying
00:29:51It went in the top corner
00:29:52To see it dip in
00:29:53Obviously circumstances
00:29:54As well
00:29:55Amazing feeling
00:29:56I will tell you
00:29:58I've been practising
00:29:59I've been practising
00:29:59In training
00:29:59The boys
00:29:59The boys know it
00:30:01They've seen it as well
00:30:01So I just had to get my chance
00:30:03He says he's been practising
00:30:04Is that what you sent him on to do?
00:30:06It's not the first time
00:30:07That you see it
00:30:08To be honest
00:30:08Yesterday of course
00:30:09It's a moment
00:30:10That they use
00:30:11In the end of the minus one session
00:30:13To do something
00:30:14Of course
00:30:15If you ask me
00:30:16Of course
00:30:16I didn't put him
00:30:17Thinking that he's going to score
00:30:18That goal
00:30:18But of course
00:30:19That is poor inspiration
00:30:20From him
00:30:21And he deserves all the credits
00:30:22I think we fought very hard
00:30:24In the second half
00:30:24We were dominating
00:30:26At moments
00:30:27Trying to create chances
00:30:29To go through
00:30:29And at the end
00:30:31I scored I think
00:30:3290 plus 5
00:30:33The moment I sat down
00:30:35On the bench
00:30:35They scored
00:30:36Wonderful goal
00:30:37To be fair
00:30:37We were 2-1 up
00:30:38And having to defend
00:30:40A long throw in
00:30:41Which we expected
00:30:42And we brought Joe Gomez in
00:30:45Because he's of course
00:30:46He's very good for the air
00:30:47But they didn't take it long
00:30:50They took it short
00:30:51And it was an incredible strike
00:30:53The boys should deserve
00:30:55To get a reward
00:30:56Once in a while
00:30:57But unfortunately
00:30:58We don't get it
00:30:59And the only ones to blame
00:31:01Is ourselves as well
00:31:02Because we concede
00:31:03In these moments
00:31:04But fighting so hard
00:31:06To be 2-1 up
00:31:07It's unbelievable
00:31:09That every time
00:31:10Then the ball goes in
00:31:10In the end
00:31:11But it was
00:31:13A truly magnificent goal
00:31:15Harrison Reid coming in
00:31:16With the heroics
00:31:17Of Harrison Ford
00:31:18With that goal
00:31:19At 92 minutes
00:31:20He comes on the pitch
00:31:2196 minutes
00:31:22I think you just need
00:31:22To wax lyrical
00:31:23I don't think
00:31:24Marco Silva brought him
00:31:25Off the bench
00:31:26For this
00:31:26Probably just to
00:31:27Maybe sew it up
00:31:27Or to try and
00:31:28Give it a bit of balance
00:31:29In midfield
00:31:29If Liverpool break away
00:31:31But he's set up
00:31:32For a long throw
00:31:32As Arna Slot
00:31:33But Reid comes into
00:31:34The picture
00:31:34I mean
00:31:34You know you let the
00:31:36Pictures do this
00:31:36Justice
00:31:37This is just
00:31:37A phenomenal strike
00:31:38It's quite funny
00:31:39Harrison said
00:31:40After that
00:31:40I've practiced this
00:31:41In training
00:31:41But again
00:31:42Like that
00:31:42Just roider over stuff
00:31:43It really is
00:31:44To get that much
00:31:45Dip in movement
00:31:46And Swaz
00:31:46Allison's got
00:31:47Absolutely no chance
00:31:48At all
00:31:48And see if it just
00:31:49Pops up as he
00:31:50Hits it there
00:31:50This is an
00:31:51Unbelievable strike
00:31:53I mean Gary
00:31:53You maybe weren't
00:31:54Overly happy
00:31:54With the Liverpool
00:31:55Defending
00:31:55Yeah and I
00:31:56Understand they're
00:31:57Set up for a
00:31:57Long throw
00:31:58But as soon as
00:31:59Fulham don't
00:32:00Throw it long
00:32:00You have to react
00:32:01To this 4v2
00:32:02You know some of
00:32:03Them Liverpool
00:32:03Players in the
00:32:04Penalty area
00:32:04Need to get up
00:32:05And get some
00:32:06Pressure on the
00:32:06Ball
00:32:06You can't leave
00:32:07That 4v2
00:32:08For that long
00:32:08And of course
00:32:09You don't expect
00:32:10To be punished
00:32:10Like this
00:32:11But boy did
00:32:12Harrison Reid
00:32:12Punish them
00:32:13A hell of a
00:32:14I'm not sure
00:32:14Many of his
00:32:15Practices went
00:32:16Where that one
00:32:16Went but the
00:32:17One that mattered
00:32:17Did
00:32:18Now there's no
00:32:19Alexander Isak
00:32:20We know for
00:32:21Liverpool for a
00:32:21Few months
00:32:22Ekotike out at
00:32:23The moment
00:32:23Could be back
00:32:24Later this week
00:32:24For the Arsenal
00:32:25Game on Thursday
00:32:26It's a short
00:32:26Term injury
00:32:27So Cody
00:32:28Gakpo playing
00:32:28In a more
00:32:29Central role
00:32:30Today
00:32:30What did you
00:32:31Make of his
00:32:31Performance
00:32:31I didn't mind
00:32:32I think
00:32:33Arnestlad talked
00:32:33About maybe
00:32:34In front of
00:32:35Goal
00:32:35We struggled
00:32:35But I think
00:32:36Gakpo done well
00:32:37You keep an eye
00:32:38On the left
00:32:39But he actually
00:32:39Bends his run
00:32:40As a centre
00:32:41Forward
00:32:41You want to do
00:32:42And he gets
00:32:44Just not a great
00:32:44Finish at the end
00:32:45Of that
00:32:45On his weaker
00:32:45Left foot
00:32:46Of course
00:32:46We know him
00:32:46Cutting in
00:32:47On his right
00:32:47He's very strong
00:32:48But again
00:32:49Look how central
00:32:49The goal
00:32:50And again
00:32:50This is a brilliant
00:32:51Hitter
00:32:51Heads it back
00:32:52Where it came from
00:32:52Just a little bit
00:32:53Unlucky
00:32:53That it's
00:32:53That it's
00:32:54Come back
00:32:54Off the woodwork
00:32:55But great
00:32:55Movement for him
00:32:56And then again
00:32:57We show
00:32:57That he's involved
00:32:58In the goal
00:32:58I think
00:32:58Later
00:32:58Parts of the stage
00:32:59Went out to the left
00:33:00Side
00:33:00Kayser went up
00:33:01More central
00:33:01But he's not happy
00:33:02Just being getting
00:33:02Involved in the build up
00:33:03Gabby's thinking
00:33:04Right can we score a goal
00:33:05He makes himself
00:33:0694-95 minutes
00:33:07Brilliant ball
00:33:08From Frimpong
00:33:08And where is he
00:33:09Number nine
00:33:10In the middle
00:33:10Of the six yard box
00:33:11Where you want him to be
00:33:12And he
00:33:12Tucks it away nicely
00:33:14And again
00:33:14He thinks he's got
00:33:15The winning goal
00:33:15At this stage
00:33:16Before Mr. Reid
00:33:18Stepped up
00:33:18And stole the party
00:33:19Off him
00:33:19But I was happy
00:33:21With Gakwa
00:33:21How he played
00:33:22It says he's played
00:33:22Before there
00:33:23For PSV
00:33:24He's played there
00:33:24For the Netherlands
00:33:25As well
00:33:25So I think
00:33:26He knows the position
00:33:27OK
00:33:27There was a lot
00:33:28Of noise
00:33:28Online
00:33:29About Florian
00:33:30Versus goal
00:33:31Of course
00:33:31During the match
00:33:32It was checked
00:33:33For offside
00:33:34And to the naked eye
00:33:35There are angles
00:33:36Where it does look
00:33:37Offside
00:33:37Now from a semi-automated
00:33:39Kind of opinion
00:33:40And position
00:33:41They're happy
00:33:42That with the tolerance
00:33:43That they have
00:33:44With the lines
00:33:45That it is onside
00:33:46Because the advantage
00:33:47When the lines touch
00:33:48Between the last player
00:33:50And the defender
00:33:51Is about five centimetres
00:33:53And it's given
00:33:53To the attacking player
00:33:54That kind of advantage
00:33:55Are you happy
00:33:56All the best Gary
00:33:57Gabby's done quite well
00:33:58Explaining that there
00:33:59I've had my own battles
00:34:01With VAR
00:34:01And trying to guess
00:34:02As a manager
00:34:03Whether
00:34:03Is on or off
00:34:05But they made
00:34:06They did make
00:34:06The lines thicker
00:34:07Four years ago
00:34:08I think
00:34:08To try and give
00:34:09An advantage
00:34:09But I think
00:34:10All of us
00:34:11Would say
00:34:11That on the naked eye
00:34:13Florian Versus foot
00:34:14Looks ahead
00:34:15Of Diop's
00:34:16There
00:34:16Florian Versus
00:34:17Looks like
00:34:18He's just drifted
00:34:19Into that lighter
00:34:19Cut of grass
00:34:20Whereas we would say
00:34:22Diop looks firmly
00:34:23Planted in the darker cut
00:34:24So you would say
00:34:25That this is probably
00:34:26Going to be disallowed
00:34:27For offside
00:34:28At this moment
00:34:29But then
00:34:29When it then turns
00:34:30To the
00:34:31Semi-automated view
00:34:32You can see
00:34:34It doesn't quite
00:34:35Look the same
00:34:35And it looks like
00:34:36Florian Versus
00:34:37Has managed
00:34:37Just to stay
00:34:39The right side
00:34:41Of Diop
00:34:41And whether that
00:34:42Tolerance
00:34:42We don't have
00:34:43The privilege
00:34:44Of seeing the lines
00:34:44Here
00:34:45But whether that
00:34:45Tolerance
00:34:46Of about 5cm
00:34:47Has led to this
00:34:48Goal standing
00:34:49Is a possibility
00:34:50But Florian Versus
00:34:52Needs the goal
00:34:53To be fair to him
00:34:53Fulham won't be
00:34:54So pleased with it
00:34:54But a big goal
00:34:55For Florian Versus
00:34:56Marco Silva's
00:34:56Reaction
00:34:57Seemed quite measured
00:34:58Yeah I guess
00:35:00The Harrison Reid
00:35:00Goal
00:35:01Probably takes
00:35:02The edge off it
00:35:02A little bit
00:35:03For him
00:35:03And I think
00:35:05As managers
00:35:06And coaches
00:35:06In the end
00:35:07You have to accept
00:35:07That the technology
00:35:09Is there to do its job
00:35:09And we have to accept
00:35:10That at the moment
00:35:12It's doing the best job
00:35:13That it possibly can
00:35:13And it's being interpreted
00:35:14In the best way possible
00:35:15You mentioned
00:35:16That it's been a few years
00:35:17Now that that has
00:35:17Been the way
00:35:18They've been viewed
00:35:18And actually
00:35:19The Premier League
00:35:20Is the only major league
00:35:21Left in Europe
00:35:21That is doing that
00:35:22The others are still
00:35:23Kind of working
00:35:23Or are working
00:35:24To the toenail
00:35:25Yeah so a strong possibility
00:35:26That maybe would have
00:35:27Been disallowed
00:35:27In some of the other
00:35:29Major leagues around Europe
00:35:30But as it is at the moment
00:35:31The technology has got
00:35:32That one right for us
00:35:33And cleared up
00:35:33A very tight decision
00:35:34You say cleared up
00:35:35I mean we're talking
00:35:36Yeah yeah
00:35:36Cleared up to the better
00:35:37Okay
00:35:38Next
00:35:40Leeds United
00:35:41And Manchester United
00:35:42Renew their
00:35:42War of the Roses
00:35:43As the Reds cross
00:35:44The Pennines
00:35:45To play the Whites
00:35:46Of Yorkshire
00:35:46Your commentator
00:35:47Is Guy Mowbray
00:35:48After today
00:35:52Every team in the Premier League
00:35:53Will have faced
00:35:54All the others this season
00:35:55The opponents
00:35:57Leeds look for first
00:35:58Are the ones
00:35:59They've had to wait
00:36:00For longest
00:36:01There are two changes
00:36:03To the Leeds line up
00:36:04From their New Year's Day
00:36:05Draw at Liverpool
00:36:05With Dominic Calvert-Lewin
00:36:07And Noah Okafor
00:36:08Coming back in to start
00:36:09Lucas Metcher
00:36:11Is a substitute
00:36:11Captain Ethan Ampadu
00:36:13Ruled out suspended
00:36:14And Jadon Bogle
00:36:15Is out with a calf injury
00:36:17For the visiting United
00:36:18Only one difference
00:36:19To their team
00:36:20In names
00:36:21As Leni Jorow
00:36:22Replaces
00:36:22Joshua Zergzi
00:36:23He's on the bench
00:36:25Alongside five teenagers
00:36:27With a whole raft
00:36:28Of senior players
00:36:29Once again absent
00:36:30Leeds waiting to play
00:36:36Manchester United
00:36:37Pales away
00:36:38Compared with waiting
00:36:38To beat them
00:36:39They haven't done that
00:36:41In nine Premier League meetings
00:36:42And in seven overall
00:36:44Since Jermaine Beckford's
00:36:45One-nil winner
00:36:46For then League One Leeds
00:36:48At Old Trafford
00:36:49Sixteen years ago
00:36:50Yesterday
00:36:51Lammans
00:36:53Nice easy stroke
00:36:55Of the ball
00:36:55Offside flag
00:36:57Is raised
00:36:58As Matthias Cunha
00:36:59Has a go
00:36:59And scores
00:37:01In fine style
00:37:02But it's not going to count
00:37:03And I'm pretty sure
00:37:08He was offside
00:37:09Maybe not Matthias Cunha
00:37:14But I'm pretty certain
00:37:16Czesco was
00:37:17And he went for the ball
00:37:18To try and help it on
00:37:19Whether he touched it or not
00:37:21Is largely irrelevant
00:37:2222 minutes in
00:37:27And Leeds United
00:37:28Pay tribute to
00:37:30Joshua Pick
00:37:31Who died suddenly
00:37:33Aged 22 recently
00:37:35A Leeds season ticket holder
00:37:36From six years old
00:37:38His dad and sister
00:37:40Are here at the game today
00:37:41And we wish them all well
00:37:43Justin
00:37:47Calvert-Lewin
00:37:49Shielding his eyes
00:37:50From the low sun
00:37:51Here's Strouk
00:37:52Stack
00:37:55Calvert-Lewin
00:37:57Off the post
00:37:59So close to scoring again
00:38:03It was inches away
00:38:05From being 1-0 Leeds
00:38:06Through their number nine
00:38:07Once more
00:38:08Just what a striker
00:38:10In Dominic Calvert-Lewin's form
00:38:12Would want
00:38:12Only needed
00:38:14Just a little bit more
00:38:15Head on ball
00:38:16That clears Borna
00:38:21Cunha
00:38:22Cunha
00:38:22Shaw
00:38:24Two in the box
00:38:26For Cunha
00:38:26Dogu can't attack it though
00:38:28It's turned behind
00:38:29By Goodmanson
00:38:30And after a
00:38:32Spell of Leeds
00:38:34Being in the ascendancy
00:38:35It might be
00:38:35Manchester United's
00:38:36Turn for a bit now
00:38:37Look Shaw
00:38:40To take the corner
00:38:41It's a deep one
00:38:43And it's Casimiro
00:38:45And saved by Lucas Perry
00:38:46Brilliant reaction stop
00:38:49Casimiro
00:38:50On to
00:38:51Lenny Uro
00:38:52Just trying to
00:38:52Divert it
00:38:53All he could do there
00:38:55Was get it goal bound
00:38:56He did that
00:38:57Lucas Perry
00:38:58In the right place
00:38:59A game that needs
00:39:03A creative spark
00:39:04A game that needs
00:39:06A player of
00:39:07Eddie Gray's abilities
00:39:08He made his
00:39:09Leeds United debut
00:39:1060 years ago
00:39:111st of January
00:39:121966
00:39:133-0 against
00:39:15Sheffield Wednesday
00:39:16He scored one
00:39:17And he made two
00:39:18Before assists were a thing
00:39:19What a player
00:39:21Stroke
00:39:23Heaven has a look
00:39:25Aronson is closing in
00:39:27And Aronson is there
00:39:28First
00:39:28And finishes
00:39:30Ellen Road has erupted
00:39:35Brendan Aronson's
00:39:41Non-stop running
00:39:42Has got reward
00:39:44Aidan
00:39:46Heaven caught
00:39:46Cold
00:39:47A moment for all
00:39:50Leeds young and old
00:39:51To absolutely love
00:39:53Aronson has not
00:39:55Always been
00:39:56Flavor of the month
00:39:56Here
00:39:57Right now
00:39:59At this minute
00:39:59He's the toast
00:40:01Of the town
00:40:01He wanted it
00:40:03Just that bit more
00:40:05But then he had to
00:40:06Find the composure
00:40:07To put it in
00:40:07Brilliantly dispatched
00:40:10And it's
00:40:11Leeds United 1
00:40:11Manchester United 0
00:40:13And Manchester United
00:40:15Now feel the need
00:40:16To make a change
00:40:17Lenny Euro is off
00:40:18Joshua Xerxes
00:40:19Comes on
00:40:20Well Aidan Heaven
00:40:22Has performed
00:40:23Really well
00:40:23In the seven games
00:40:25Now in a row
00:40:26That he started
00:40:26But there was
00:40:28An aberration
00:40:28You can't switch off
00:40:30In the Premier League
00:40:31And in this fixture
00:40:32Of all fixtures
00:40:33You absolutely
00:40:35Must be on it
00:40:36At every second
00:40:37Xerxes
00:40:39Looking for Cunha
00:40:41And Cunha
00:40:42Has slid in
00:40:43And slotted it
00:40:44Past Lucas Perry
00:40:45It's 1-1
00:40:47Leeds turn
00:40:50To get it all
00:40:51Wrong in defence
00:40:52This is one
00:40:54Of huge importance
00:40:56For Manchester United
00:40:57Cesco won it
00:40:59Laid it off
00:40:59To Xerxes
00:41:00He played a
00:41:01Perfectly weighted
00:41:03Pass for Cunha
00:41:04And not for the
00:41:05First time
00:41:06Cunha found himself
00:41:07Free
00:41:07And just like
00:41:09Aronson at the
00:41:10Other end
00:41:10Well how good
00:41:11Was the finish
00:41:12The game
00:41:14Has been
00:41:15Plugged in
00:41:16From 0-0
00:41:18To 1-1
00:41:18In just
00:41:21Under three
00:41:21Minutes
00:41:22Okafor
00:41:27On his way
00:41:28Calvert-Lewin
00:41:29In the middle
00:41:30But so is
00:41:30Heaven
00:41:31Beall got to
00:41:43Help on to that
00:41:44Good try
00:41:44Good save
00:41:45Lehmann's
00:41:47Forced to
00:41:48Spring into
00:41:48Action
00:41:49After Okafor's
00:41:51Acrobatic
00:41:52Attempt
00:41:52Great try
00:41:55So Alex
00:41:59Ferguson
00:41:59Was 84
00:42:00On New
00:42:01Year's Eve
00:42:01He was never
00:42:03Going to miss
00:42:03This one
00:42:03Dalot
00:42:06Bugatti
00:42:10Zerxes
00:42:11Now
00:42:13Matthias
00:42:13Cunha
00:42:14Luke Shaw
00:42:14Is an extra
00:42:15Center forward
00:42:15In this move
00:42:16Here's Zerxes
00:42:17Zerxes
00:42:18Across
00:42:19Cesc
00:42:19Go
00:42:19Zephy
00:42:19Is wide
00:42:20He made
00:42:22Good contact
00:42:23With the ball
00:42:23Just maybe
00:42:25Hit it
00:42:26Too straight
00:42:26Planted
00:42:28Firmly
00:42:29Wide
00:42:29Of the post
00:42:29Big chance
00:42:31For Manchester
00:42:31United
00:42:32To take
00:42:32The lead
00:42:32Deal's header
00:42:36Goes straight
00:42:37To Cunha
00:42:37Cesc
00:42:38Gets it
00:42:39Through the
00:42:39Legs
00:42:39For Zerxes
00:42:40Now
00:42:41It's
00:42:41Dorgue
00:42:42Cunha
00:42:43Wants it
00:42:43Cunha
00:42:44Has the
00:42:44Try
00:42:45Oh
00:42:45Was it
00:42:46Saved
00:42:46Or
00:42:46Just
00:42:46Wide
00:42:47Look
00:42:50At the
00:42:51Curl
00:42:51On that
00:42:51From
00:42:52Cunha
00:42:52So
00:42:54So
00:42:54Close
00:42:55To
00:42:55Making
00:42:56It
00:42:562-1
00:42:56Manchester
00:42:57United
00:42:57It's
00:43:00Justin
00:43:00Who
00:43:00Heads
00:43:00Forward
00:43:01To
00:43:01Nyonto
00:43:01Lovely ball
00:43:05From Nyonto
00:43:05Here's
00:43:06Stack
00:43:06Piru to
00:43:07The right
00:43:08Stack
00:43:09Finds him
00:43:09Piru
00:43:10Under the
00:43:11Roof
00:43:12Made his
00:43:15Mind up
00:43:15Before the
00:43:15Ball came to
00:43:16Him
00:43:16That that's
00:43:17What he was
00:43:18Going to
00:43:18Try to
00:43:18Do
00:43:19Not
00:43:21Not far
00:43:21Away at
00:43:22All
00:43:22And it
00:43:24Is
00:43:24Full
00:43:25Time
00:43:25At
00:43:26Elland
00:43:26Road
00:43:26Leeds
00:43:27Draw
00:43:28For a
00:43:29Third
00:43:29Game
00:43:29In a
00:43:29Row
00:43:30There's
00:43:31Seven
00:43:31Unbeaten
00:43:31Now
00:43:32Manchester
00:43:33United
00:43:33Have only
00:43:35Lost one
00:43:35Of their
00:43:36Last eight
00:43:36They're much
00:43:37More resilient
00:43:38Away from
00:43:38Home
00:43:38These days
00:43:39Leeds
00:43:40United
00:43:40One
00:43:41Manchester
00:43:42United
00:43:42One
00:43:42We are a bit
00:43:45Disappointed
00:43:45Because it was
00:43:46Possible also
00:43:46To win this
00:43:47Game
00:43:47You could feel
00:43:48That we were
00:43:49A bit tired
00:43:49Today and
00:43:50Also we're
00:43:51Missing many
00:43:51Key players
00:43:52Was probably
00:43:54Football wise
00:43:54Not our best
00:43:55Performance
00:43:55But we found
00:43:56Still a way
00:43:57To defend
00:43:57Really well
00:43:57And to go
00:43:59In lead
00:43:59And it was
00:43:59Definitely
00:43:59Possible also
00:44:00To win this
00:44:00Game
00:44:01For that
00:44:01We are a bit
00:44:02Disappointed
00:44:02But on the
00:44:03Other hand
00:44:03It shows
00:44:04Also
00:44:04And says a lot
00:44:05That you are
00:44:06Disappointed
00:44:06With just one
00:44:07Point against
00:44:07Man United
00:44:08As a
00:44:08Promoted
00:44:09Side
00:44:09An important
00:44:10Point
00:44:10For us
00:44:10We talk
00:44:11About this
00:44:11The
00:44:12Resilience
00:44:12And then
00:44:13Everyone knows
00:44:14It's so important
00:44:15To the players
00:44:16Who miss
00:44:17Today
00:44:17But we have
00:44:19A big character
00:44:20On the team
00:44:20We need
00:44:20To use the shirt
00:44:22And show everything
00:44:22On the pitch
00:44:23And I think
00:44:24We did it
00:44:25And I hope
00:44:26We can do
00:44:26Much more
00:44:27The next game
00:44:27Yeah we're going
00:44:28To take it
00:44:28With a ton
00:44:29Of confidence
00:44:30Because you know
00:44:30Where we've been
00:44:31The last month
00:44:32Of games
00:44:32That we've had
00:44:32Going to Liverpool
00:44:33Coming back home
00:44:34Two away games
00:44:36And Sunderland
00:44:36Two
00:44:37They're not easy
00:44:37Places to go
00:44:38To stay unbeaten
00:44:39And I think
00:44:40We could even have
00:44:40More points
00:44:40From these games
00:44:41So we just need
00:44:43To keep going
00:44:43From here
00:44:43Well after the match
00:44:45Ruben Amarim
00:44:46Said this
00:44:46In his press conference
00:44:47I just want to say
00:44:49That I'm going to be
00:44:50The manager
00:44:51Of this team
00:44:52Not just the coach
00:44:53And I was really
00:44:54Clear on that
00:44:56And that is going
00:44:56To finish
00:44:57In 18 months
00:44:58And then
00:44:59Everyone is going
00:45:00To move on
00:45:02That was the deal
00:45:04That is my job
00:45:05Not to be a coach
00:45:07If people
00:45:08Cannot handle
00:45:09The Gary Nevels
00:45:10And the criticism
00:45:11Of everything
00:45:12We need to change
00:45:14The club
00:45:15I came here
00:45:16To be the manager
00:45:17Of Manchester United
00:45:18Not to be the coach
00:45:19And every department
00:45:20The scouting department
00:45:21The sport director
00:45:22Needs to do their job
00:45:23I will do mine
00:45:24For 18 months
00:45:25And then
00:45:25We move on
00:45:26The question he was
00:45:28Responding to
00:45:29Ruben Amarim
00:45:30Was about control
00:45:31At the club
00:45:31And that answer
00:45:32Clearly would
00:45:33Point to discord
00:45:34With regard to
00:45:36The hierarchy
00:45:36At the club
00:45:37Yeah
00:45:37Yeah
00:45:38He's not happy
00:45:38It looks like
00:45:39There's a bit of a
00:45:40It feels like
00:45:41We don't know
00:45:41Obviously
00:45:41It feels like
00:45:42There's a bit of a
00:45:42Fallout between himself
00:45:43And of course
00:45:44Jason Walcox
00:45:45The director of football
00:45:46And he said
00:45:47In numerous cases
00:45:48Two or three times
00:45:48That he's the manager
00:45:49Not just the coach
00:45:51So what that tells me
00:45:52Is he's overseeing
00:45:53Players coming in
00:45:54He's overseeing
00:45:54Maybe players going out
00:45:55Who comes to the club
00:45:56Who doesn't
00:45:57Or he would like to
00:45:58He would like to
00:45:58But maybe
00:45:59That's not happened
00:46:00Maybe he's been
00:46:00We're in January
00:46:01Now the promises
00:46:02Of maybe players
00:46:02Coming in
00:46:03Maybe the goalposts
00:46:04Have changed
00:46:04And a lot of
00:46:05You know
00:46:05But a lot of managers
00:46:07You know
00:46:07They are head coaches
00:46:08Now and they've got
00:46:08Heads of heads
00:46:09Doing other things
00:46:10But you look at
00:46:11The great Sir Alex Ferguson
00:46:12He managed that football club
00:46:13Like no other
00:46:14I look at maybe
00:46:15An Unai Emery
00:46:16At Aston Villa
00:46:17It feels like he's
00:46:18Got the final say
00:46:19In everything
00:46:19It comes and goes
00:46:20In Aston Villa
00:46:20And look where they're
00:46:21At the league
00:46:21And also I'd say
00:46:22If Man United won
00:46:23On Wednesday night
00:46:23Against Burnley
00:46:24They're up the fourth
00:46:25And if you look
00:46:26At their bench
00:46:26In the last couple
00:46:27Of weeks
00:46:27He's got a bunch
00:46:27Of kids on there
00:46:28So I don't think
00:46:29He's doing a bad job
00:46:30But it does feel
00:46:30There's a bit of
00:46:31A bit of a falling out
00:46:32Behind the scenes perhaps
00:46:33What do you think
00:46:34As a manager
00:46:34Sitting in that chair
00:46:35His aim was
00:46:36What was the end game
00:46:37Yeah I think
00:46:38When you deliver
00:46:39A press conference
00:46:39Like that
00:46:40You're obviously
00:46:40Trying to make a point
00:46:41He's unhappy
00:46:42About something
00:46:43It's very difficult
00:46:43For us
00:46:44Without knowing
00:46:45The inner workings
00:46:45At the football club
00:46:46And the conversations
00:46:46That go on
00:46:47What he's unhappy with
00:46:49I agree with Shea
00:46:50That there's not much
00:46:52For him to work with
00:46:52At the moment
00:46:53If you look at that bench
00:46:54That Manchester United
00:46:54Are naming
00:46:55You know it's
00:46:56They are fifth or sixth
00:46:57In the league
00:46:58And maybe they're not
00:46:59Underachieving too much
00:47:00With what he's got
00:47:00Available to him
00:47:01So I understand
00:47:01His need
00:47:02And his want
00:47:03For more backing
00:47:04But it is a dicey game
00:47:06To play
00:47:07When you're sat in that chair
00:47:08And you start to
00:47:08Criticise people above you
00:47:09Maybe when it's not
00:47:11Gone overly well for you
00:47:12Over the last 18 months
00:47:13But you know
00:47:14He's an intelligent guy
00:47:15Big boy
00:47:16I'm sure he knows
00:47:17What he's doing
00:47:17And if he feels
00:47:18He needs to make a point
00:47:19In that moment
00:47:19Then he has every right
00:47:20To do so
00:47:21I guess recent example
00:47:22Lenzo Marescot
00:47:22Didn't quite work out
00:47:23For him did it
00:47:24When he helped
00:47:24No it goes one way
00:47:25Or the other
00:47:25You normally get some
00:47:26Support or it can end
00:47:27Fairly abruptly
00:47:28On the pitch
00:47:29The player that they're
00:47:29Looking to at the moment
00:47:30For creativity
00:47:31And attacking threat
00:47:32You know very well
00:47:33Matthias Cunier
00:47:33From your time at Wolves
00:47:34Yeah one of my favourite
00:47:36Players that I worked with
00:47:36At Wolves
00:47:37We did an awful lot
00:47:38Of work with him
00:47:38On arriving in
00:47:41Attacking areas
00:47:41That really suited him
00:47:42So Manchester United
00:47:44Have used him
00:47:45In a similar zone
00:47:45But it does still feel
00:47:47Like he's carrying
00:47:47A lot of the burden
00:47:48In the attacking
00:47:49I know they're missing
00:47:49Players at the moment
00:47:50Fantastic finish
00:47:52He's unlucky
00:47:52That Cesco's just
00:47:53Not quite managed
00:47:54To get back
00:47:55From an offside position
00:47:55But shows his quality
00:47:56But here
00:47:57Just a lack of attackers
00:47:59On the pitch
00:48:00From Manchester United
00:48:01And you know
00:48:02Cunier needs people
00:48:03He needs runners
00:48:04To be able to find
00:48:05And he'll find them
00:48:05His right foot's
00:48:06One of the best
00:48:06In the business
00:48:07So there he's only
00:48:08Got Cesco
00:48:08And Dorg
00:48:09Who's really late
00:48:10To arrive
00:48:10So a fantastic ball
00:48:11Into a dangerous area
00:48:12From Cunier
00:48:13But not enough attackers
00:48:14For him to play with
00:48:15And combine
00:48:16And create things
00:48:17Here Dallo playing outside
00:48:19Poor ball inside
00:48:20And now Aronson
00:48:21Punishes them
00:48:22On the counter attack
00:48:22And this was the catalyst
00:48:24Really
00:48:24This was the thing
00:48:25That sparked the reaction
00:48:26From Amory
00:48:26And Manchester United
00:48:27Zerksy comes
00:48:28Straight off the bench
00:48:29And literally
00:48:30Instantly
00:48:31You see three attackers
00:48:32Who are able to combine
00:48:33No full backs
00:48:34Playing higher up the pitch
00:48:35Three out
00:48:37And out attackers
00:48:37And they're able to combine
00:48:39Cesco sets Zerksy
00:48:40Cunier makes that run
00:48:41In behind
00:48:42And we did loads
00:48:43And loads of finishing
00:48:44Drills with him
00:48:44And his right foot
00:48:45When you get him
00:48:45In and around the goal
00:48:46Is deadly
00:48:47He hits the net
00:48:48Time after time
00:48:49Same again
00:48:49Zerksy
00:48:50Cesco
00:48:50They work it between them
00:48:52And then they find
00:48:53The third link
00:48:53Mateus Cunier
00:48:54Once you get him here
00:48:55If he's got a runner
00:48:56He'll find it
00:48:57In the first half
00:48:58He didn't have one
00:48:58Second half
00:48:59Zerksy makes a fantastic
00:49:00Running behind
00:49:01Perfect weight on the pass
00:49:03From Cunier
00:49:03And then Zerksy
00:49:04Will be disappointed
00:49:05He should do better
00:49:05Same again
00:49:06Cunier
00:49:07Drops down to him
00:49:09He's got two to combine with
00:49:10Two attackers who he can play with
00:49:11Would probably like more
00:49:12But at least he's got two
00:49:13They combine again
00:49:15Zerksy and Cesco
00:49:16Are able to take the defenders away
00:49:18Gets Mateus Cunier
00:49:19Half a yard
00:49:19And then that wand of a right foot
00:49:21Nearly clinches the whole three points
00:49:23For Manchester United
00:49:24But another big
00:49:25Big performance for him
00:49:26And here you can see
00:49:27Like
00:49:27They're not blessed with goals
00:49:29You know
00:49:30Mateus Cunier
00:49:31Four
00:49:31Casemiro
00:49:32Four
00:49:32And then there's not a lot else
00:49:34In that group
00:49:35And I understand they're missing players
00:49:36But this is Manchester United
00:49:38It's the biggest
00:49:39Or one of the biggest clubs
00:49:40In the country
00:49:40And you would expect
00:49:41Their starting XI and bench
00:49:43To provide a lot more goal threat
00:49:44Than it does at the moment
00:49:45So heavily reliant on Mateus
00:49:46And it says a lot about Leeds
00:49:48And their run in December
00:49:49In particular
00:49:50So the reaction
00:49:51Of a lot of the players
00:49:52And the manager there
00:49:53That you know
00:49:53Yes they're happy with the point
00:49:54But they've had such a good run
00:49:56Since that defeat
00:49:56At the end of November
00:49:57To City
00:49:58They haven't lost a game
00:49:59In Manchester City
00:50:00He was under pressure
00:50:01Daniel Farke as well
00:50:02And they trusted him
00:50:03They stuck behind him
00:50:03Seven unbeaten
00:50:04Eight points clear
00:50:05Of the drop zone
00:50:06He's doing a great job
00:50:07OK
00:50:07We've got plenty more sport

00:58:11Look
00:58:11At
00:58:12just how much time and space igor thiago has he's got the freedom of the hill dickinson stadium
00:58:20to bear down on jordan pickford's everton one brentford four
00:58:30as you can see lots of blue empty seats amongst the home supporters we've seen more than enough
00:58:38grealish grealish barry still time for more goals in this match
00:58:53there hasn't been many positives for everton here this afternoon
00:58:57but both of their strikers on the score sheet is one everton two brentford four
00:59:03we're excellent um right from the off really played with a lot of personality conviction
00:59:13energy spirit all the aspects of the game i want to see from our team it come into a very very
00:59:18difficult uh ground even though it's a new ground difficult club to play against manager to play
00:59:23against who i have a serious amount of respect for so we knew we'd have to earn a result today
00:59:29um but i'd have to say i thought we were excellent disappointment that we we didn't play better
00:59:33but uh no we're just a bit short at the moment in some areas and but in areas we lost the goals today
00:59:40we weren't we weren't short we've been very strong in those areas but i thought we were disappointed
00:59:44defensively today and certainly not as strong as we have been a word of appreciation for igor thiago i'm
00:59:51sure you go against him a lot in training so you'll know about his attributes and a short spell without
00:59:56scoring but back amongst the goals he's just a handful he has a bit of everything you know he
01:00:00runs in behind he works hard he holds the ball up and he can finish a wall he has everything to be the
01:00:04top striker and if he keeps going like this there's no reason he can't be he's played really well
01:00:08recently and not scored so i always felt the goals would come again um it was unrealistic to think he
01:00:14was just going to continue banging in goals left right and center week in week out like he had been
01:00:17so um his performance again today was sensational and he truly deserves the accolades that he'll get off the
01:00:24back of it certainly not a typical brentford performance on the road this season they've
01:00:28lost seven of nine but they were running rampant at the hill dickinson today and tiago in particular
01:00:33off the back of six games without scoring yeah he was excellent gabby there was there was there was
01:00:37no sign of a lack of confidence after not scoring for six games obviously he's been in the goals over
01:00:42the course of the season everton were poor you know this is not their finest day mistakes as you'll see
01:00:47in the build-up to a lot of these chances but proper number nine great movement off the back of the
01:00:51the center half and a fantastic finish and you can see him here his teammates spoke about it there
01:00:56nathan collins always wanting to threaten him behind these runs in behind so hard to deal with
01:01:00pickford manages to save this one but then maybe he learns from that chance where he's managed where
01:01:05he smashed it and pickford's got a hand to it he competes at the top of the pitch and he's a target
01:01:09man for them but now you see him again just threatening him behind that everton back line and he calls them
01:01:13real real problems today he doesn't get the first one gets this one and that's a great finish to just lift it
01:01:19over pickford would have been easy to smash it against him another poor ball from everton and
01:01:24then not well organized behind the ball everton on that clip and you leave tiago in this sort of
01:01:28space in the form that he's in and all of us were pretty sure that this was going to end one way in
01:01:32a goal another little dink finish and a premier league hat-trick for him and well deserved a fantastic
01:01:38performance and look at that he's in very good company he is and i think there's a there's a big
01:01:43tournament coming up in the summer isn't there the world cup that i'm sure he's got his eyes on
01:01:48because brazil we haven't really have a set number nine for a while uh and i know he hasn't been
01:01:52called up yet but if he stays on that list and he keeps the company that he's keeping at the moment
01:01:56then it'd be very very hard not to take him i mentioned brentford's away form because actually
01:02:00their league position is very good and it's been built on their home form and hill dickinson for
01:02:05everton at the moment their form there isn't very good is it and and having had a good start to their
01:02:11new home things are looking a bit wobbly yeah i'm always said they're short in a few years and again
01:02:15he'll be looking maybe the window to try and strengthen but yeah the graph speaks for itself
01:02:19doesn't it i mean they're very hill dickens is a brand new stadium and sometimes the opposition look
01:02:23like they like playing there more so on the home team and that sometimes that happens gabby but
01:02:26david moys will want to put that right we know he's a top manager and i'm sure he'll get it right
01:02:30okay eddie howe has said that january will be a season defining month for his newcastle side they
01:02:36begin 2026 against another side struggling for forming crystal palace commentary comes from martin fisher
01:02:41january will be defining it will certainly be tiring nine games over the next 28 days for newcastle
01:02:51in four different competitions palace know all about hectic schedules this is their 32nd
01:02:57match of the campaign no premier league side has played more one change for newcastle harvey
01:03:03barnes replaced by jacob murphy who scored in their last two wins here over palace the eagles give a
01:03:10debut to brennan johnson who only joined them from spurs on friday for a club record fee of 35 million pounds
01:03:22neither side in good form at the moment first win in four for newcastle on tuesday
01:03:28the first point in four for palace on thursday
01:03:32tonali gordon two to his right gets it back from gimmarais on now for murphy whistle waits in the middle
01:03:44mitchell with the block newcastle's corner
01:03:51some pieces again something that they have struggled with of late lewis hall to swing this in for newcastle
01:03:58it's deep henderson helps it on its way
01:04:03wissa in by tonali
01:04:08punched away by henderson back in by hall share great save henderson
01:04:16well it wasn't the greatest of punches away by the palace goalkeeper at the start of all that
01:04:21but he was in the right position to deal with it when it came back his way from fabian share
01:04:31give a rush lovely ball wissa in on goal squares for gordon
01:04:381-0 newcastle
01:04:42eighth goal of the season for anthony gordon
01:04:45his first in the premier league that hasn't come from the penalty spot this season
01:04:53i wonder there if wissa is actually just ahead of lerma so tight isn't it
01:05:03cut of the grass it looks ever so tight but it's the shoulder of wissa but he's just ahead of the palace man
01:05:09it won't count newcastle celebrations cut short
01:05:16matthew donohoe today's var with the decision
01:05:24inside for gimaraish looking for wissa
01:05:29and the block was by canva
01:05:30whistle looking sharp timed his run better there than he did earlier
01:05:392025 brought welcome glory for both of these clubs a first domestic trophy in 70 years for newcastle
01:05:46first ever piece of silverware in crystal palace's history
01:05:51future holds for them in 2026
01:05:53now hughes mitchell and pinot to his left
01:05:59it's pinot through for hughes who's in oh he should have buried it what a chance for will hughes
01:06:05well he doesn't score many but he really should have buried that opportunity
01:06:10lovely way to pass by pinot and from there hughes somehow puts it wide of the target
01:06:17and look at the reaction of oliver glasner
01:06:24now gordon
01:06:26four around the corner newcastle with four in the box here's joe linton
01:06:30now wissa now tonali and palace scrambling away
01:06:38desperate defending but affected defending by crystal palace particularly by tarik mitchell
01:06:44joe linton
01:06:48barnes with his first involvement
01:06:52stopped by camber
01:06:58sixth corner that newcastle have had today
01:07:00a lot of them have really caused palace that much difficulty
01:07:05came off the bar that one
01:07:06well look in his face he intended it look at the swing on that
01:07:15henderson will argue that he had it covered
01:07:17and a chance for miley to cross
01:07:20as well as he knows away
01:07:26for the last trip by water
01:07:29and newcastle getting the free kick
01:07:32this is where
01:07:33glasner will be getting a little concern that
01:07:37palace are beginning to tire again
01:07:42first phase dealt with
01:07:43here's the second from barnes arriving back post is miley
01:07:47three and it's not at home
01:07:51bruno
01:07:52glasner is
01:07:54glasner
01:07:56to give a rush again
01:07:58comes up trumps for newcastle
01:08:00Palace's resistance finally broken and Guimarães nods home from inside the six-yard box
01:08:09his seventh Premier League goal of the season and that matches his best ever
01:08:15tally in the Premier League of two seasons ago
01:08:18it's another goal that Palace have conceded from a set piece it has been
01:08:23there undoing all too often in recent weeks driven in by Murphy, Miley, for Cher
01:08:32and a header from Barnes, brilliantly saved by Henderson, it almost bounced to Wissett
01:08:38but Kambo was there for Palace to shove it behind
01:08:43Newcastle pressing hard now for a second goal
01:08:48another dangerous corner Joel Linton got a touch and it's in
01:08:52Malik Chow makes it two to Newcastle
01:08:55and that is that I'm sure from St James' Park
01:08:59another set piece brings another goal against Crystal Palace
01:09:03and once again they have tired significantly the longer the game has worn on
01:09:11we'll pinball in there for a second or two and it's Chow who gets the vital final touch
01:09:17forward by Guimarães, Barnes looked like he timed his run brilliantly, Barnes is in here for Newcastle for number three
01:09:28oh!
01:09:30how was that put wide by Joe Willock?
01:09:34Henderson did really well to block the effort from Barnes but it looked like it was just a temporary reprieve
01:09:42as Joe Willock came bursting in from the far side
01:09:45from there Joe Willock has found a way of missing the target
01:09:51but it won't matter, Newcastle have come through this one in the end rather comfortably
01:09:55Newcastle 2, Palace 0
01:09:57Palace 0
01:09:59Two goals happened from two set plays and that's what we have to solve
01:10:04the problem conceding goals from set plays I think from our last six defeats
01:10:07in five games we just conceded goals from set plays and not one just every single one
01:10:12today two, four at Leeds, two against Man United, one against Tottenham, two at Strasbourg
01:10:17so and then it's it's it's you can't win games yeah this is what this is our responsibility responsibility
01:10:24is my responsibility to give the players better solutions that they can defend it in a better way
01:10:28I think we work really hard at our set pieces and pleased to see them come off and they can win and lose your game
01:10:33so it was a defining factor today when we're coming at 0-0 we know we could play better
01:10:37I thought we did play better especially with the introduction of the substitutes
01:10:40thought they all made a difference and finally had some sort of strength back in the squad today
01:10:45you could see our bench was you know much stronger and I think that made the difference
01:10:51so back to back wins for Newcastle United and that coincides with two Premier League starts for Johan Wisser
01:10:58he offers something of an Isak-esque quality to Newcastle
01:11:02you see the difference
01:11:03That to yourself for the Newcastle fans, Isak-like comparison
01:11:05but yeah I agree totally Gabby and it was a good link up play with him and Guimara today
01:11:09you see him in the picture he drops deep and Valtomar is good at this as well dropping deep
01:11:12but I like to keep an eye on Vista with his movement after
01:11:15a striker he drags the centre half out of position
01:11:17but he's not happy we can get involved in link up play
01:11:19watch where he ends up here now
01:11:20he probably should score here Johan at the age of the box
01:11:22you know it's a timid sort of shot at the end of that
01:11:24but again he's got one thought in his mind
01:11:26is to get in the box
01:11:27and again Bruno receives the ball here
01:11:28look at Vista
01:11:29his first thought is can he stretch the opposition?
01:11:31can he play down the sides?
01:11:33and again a spit like Isak last season
01:11:35he's done that a lot
01:11:36it's very difficult for defenders to defend against pace and power
01:11:38he was marginally offside
01:11:39in this occasion
01:11:40obviously Gordon with the follow-up
01:11:41but the goal was rightly disallowed
01:11:43again can Bruno play that ball?
01:11:44you see Vista peeling on the back of the centre half
01:11:46that's what he's good at you know
01:11:48occupying the centre halfs
01:11:49and again
01:11:50he doesn't come out to try and link up on the age of the box
01:11:52that maybe have Valtomar
01:11:53he's getting in the middle of the goal
01:11:54he has the best opportunity to score goals
01:11:56you know Palace just do enough to defend this
01:11:58but again him and Bruno are in the box here
01:12:00trying to score
01:12:01and Eddie mentioned set plays
01:12:02it's a huge part of the game
01:12:03we highlight Bruno in the middle of the box
01:12:05and we should mention Lewis Miley
01:12:06the backer was absolutely brilliant today by the way
01:12:08keeps it alive
01:12:09and you want your captain to step up
01:12:11at a key moment
01:12:12the first goal in any game is so important
01:12:14and again captain fantastic
01:12:15steps up to the plate
01:12:16gets the all-important goal
01:12:17and you look at his stats as well
01:12:19he's matched his best goal-scoring record already
01:12:21and we're only in January
01:12:23so again such huge important goals
01:12:25and Eddie mentioned momentum for this team
01:12:27now back-to-back wins
01:12:28can they push on?
01:12:29they've got some big games coming up
01:12:31Oliver Glasner bemoaning the fact that
01:12:33Crystal Palace can't defend set pieces
01:12:35and they do have a terrible record this season
01:12:38they do I'm sure this is driving him
01:12:39I'm sure this is driving him mad
01:12:40because they're always in games
01:12:42you know they're defensively sound
01:12:43they're well organised
01:12:44well coached
01:12:45but like he said there
01:12:46if you're going to ship this many goals
01:12:48from set pieces
01:12:49over 50% of the goals they've conceded
01:12:51have been from set plays
01:12:52and it's been a real struggle for him
01:12:54and the more it happens
01:12:55the more it becomes a thing
01:12:56because I'm sure he'll do a meeting on it tomorrow
01:12:58or the next day around
01:13:00we need to be better at it
01:13:01and then the lads go out onto the pitch
01:13:03they give a corner away
01:13:05and instantly everyone's thinking
01:13:07oh no another corner
01:13:08you know we've struggled off these this season
01:13:10so the quicker they fix it the better
01:13:12easier said than done
01:13:13but I'm sure Glasgow will be working hard at it
01:13:16OK, thank you
01:13:17Tottenham staggered into 2026
01:13:19with a goalless draw of Brentford on New Year's Day
01:13:21their first in 137 Premier League games
01:13:24they were hoping for better
01:13:25at home to upwardly mobile Sunderland
01:13:27your commentator Robin Cowan
01:13:30Goalless draws for both Spurs and Sunderland
01:13:33to begin the new year
01:13:34but the mood from the respective fan bases
01:13:36couldn't be more different
01:13:37Tottenham's travelling fans were vociferous
01:13:39in their dissatisfaction
01:13:40and another toothless display
01:13:42in response
01:13:43Thomas Frank has replaced
01:13:44a holding midfielder in João Paulinha
01:13:46with a more attack minded Matthias Tell
01:13:48the other change sees Ben Davies
01:13:50make just his second Premier League appearance of the season
01:13:52and first from the start
01:13:54Sunderland have taken points
01:13:56of all of the current top four in the Premier League
01:13:58Manchester City the latest side
01:14:00to leave the stadium of light frustrated
01:14:02Regis Libris names the same eleven
01:14:04with this a fixture former Arsenal man
01:14:06Granit Xhaka will have been especially looking forward to
01:14:09it's Archie Grey
01:14:15given away
01:14:17but Granit Xhaka can't keep hold of it
01:14:19Grey
01:14:21allowed to advance
01:14:23options right and left
01:14:25Serkin got a little touch on it
01:14:28Porro's delivery
01:14:30Mukiele
01:14:32the faintest of glances ahead of Richarlison
01:14:38and he not got that touch
01:14:40that would have been 1-0
01:14:44Thomas Frank has admitted that the first half of the season
01:14:48as Tottenham head coach has been difficult to enjoy
01:14:51Odip there
01:14:53Odip there
01:14:55and now Tell
01:14:57Tyus Tell
01:14:59went to place it
01:15:01really not a bad effort from Tell
01:15:03those groups
01:15:04look pretty sure that
01:15:05that was heading wide
01:15:07good spell of sustained pressure this from Tottenham but
01:15:11is there something at the end of it
01:15:13Romero
01:15:15Odip there
01:15:17and Aroed
01:15:21Odip there
01:15:25across is a
01:15:28turned behind by Hairschrouda
01:15:31Trouder.
01:15:39I can't tell.
01:15:41Romero takes it down.
01:15:43Van der Ven!
01:15:44And touched in by Ben Davis.
01:15:50Well, Tottenham looking for more potency up front.
01:15:55And it's the defenders who combine to get their first goal.
01:15:59You've got to say, this was slapdash from Sunderland.
01:16:03Christian Romero had time to take it down.
01:16:06Slip.
01:16:07And Miki van der Ven!
01:16:09Shot is turned in by Ben Davis.
01:16:14His first Spurs goal in over two years.
01:16:19Some hope for Regis Labrace.
01:16:21Only Aston Villa have won more points from losing positions this season than Sunderland.
01:16:26And Kiele.
01:16:29Charleston wins it.
01:16:32Hume.
01:16:33Has a go!
01:16:36Opened up nicely for him.
01:16:39Really closing him down.
01:16:42They've really failed to lay a glove on Tottenham so far in this first half.
01:16:50Ben Tankour tried to flick that forward.
01:16:52And here's Trey Hume onto Mayenda.
01:16:59Find Xhaka and a bit of space here.
01:17:03Edingra.
01:17:07Ooh, gets the cross in.
01:17:09Vicario came and Ben Davis was there.
01:17:15Unconvincing.
01:17:16From the Tottenham goalkeeper.
01:17:17This was a chance.
01:17:21And Vicario got nothing on that at all.
01:17:25Good positioning from Ben Davis.
01:17:30Can Sunderland prey on the...
01:17:35creeping nerves of those inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?
01:17:38On edge at the moment.
01:17:43Michele.
01:17:45That's the best Sunderland have offered all day.
01:17:49Enzo Le Fay.
01:17:51Just hits the base of the post.
01:17:54No intervention from Vicario.
01:17:56So close.
01:17:57And that will do nothing for the nerves inside here.
01:18:01But Sunderland to...
01:18:05have so much confidence, positivity...
01:18:08starting.
01:18:12To show what they're all about.
01:18:15Brobby.
01:18:16Receives the ball back.
01:18:17It's Brobby!
01:18:20It is brilliant!
01:18:21The pressure was building.
01:18:27Sunderland strike.
01:18:28With ten minutes to go.
01:18:31Lovely give and go.
01:18:33Between Brian Brobby and Enzo Le Fay.
01:18:36He has leathered that in.
01:18:39Good times.
01:18:40Keep coming.
01:18:42For the Black Cats.
01:18:44And they are level.
01:18:49Michele.
01:18:50Since moving to right-back.
01:18:55It's made Sunderland look...
01:18:59much more of a threat in attack.
01:19:03Might fall nicely here.
01:19:06Brobby.
01:19:08Hume.
01:19:10One-way traffic now.
01:19:13A slightly fortunate bounce here.
01:19:16Brobby showing good strength to hold that up.
01:19:18And Hume finding space for the shot.
01:19:23Thomas Frank has...
01:19:25this section of the season...
01:19:27as a marathon.
01:19:28And I think...
01:19:29they've hit the wall.
01:19:31Two minutes.
01:19:33Stoppage time remaining.
01:19:34Pedro Porro.
01:19:35No.
01:19:36Pedro Porro.
01:19:37Class-wide.
01:19:38Palinia.
01:19:39Or Rosewell.
01:19:41Or Rosewell.
01:19:42But...
01:19:43couldn't hit the target.
01:19:45Is that Tottenham's final chance?
01:19:50More frustration for the Spurs fans.
01:19:52And a familiar sound for Thomas Frank.
01:19:56What's your kind of message in it?
01:19:57Is there an understanding about the frustration from the fans?
01:20:00No, but I think the first and foremost throughout the game.
01:20:04I think the fans were very good in backing us and were behind the team.
01:20:07That's all we're asking for.
01:20:08After, I always said that's different.
01:20:10So, and I'm also pretty sure that the fans, they will acknowledge, especially first half,
01:20:15acknowledge the hard work throughout the game from the players,
01:20:18acknowledge that they tried so hard throughout the game.
01:20:20Sometimes, just don't go your way.
01:20:23We reached 30 points this afternoon, which is really positive for us.
01:20:27And it gives us confidence, because even if you go through a difficult period,
01:20:32I think it was the case this afternoon, you are always on the edge.
01:20:37You don't give up.
01:20:40And the opponent, I think, can feel your quality.
01:20:43So, I think it's really positive for the future.
01:20:45But we'll have another challenge in three days and go again.
01:20:48We're playing with three front players that hasn't got that many Premier League goals in the world.
01:20:53So, Mati and also Korto, a very good player, but probably lack the final two, three good actions and a goal and assist.
01:21:01Sometimes, you're on a spell where you need to work very, very hard and to get the margins on your side.
01:21:06Frustration for Spurs, because in that first half, they looked far the better team, had so many chances to put the game away.
01:21:13Yeah, the game was there for them.
01:21:15I preferred their approach. I thought they were slightly more aggressive.
01:21:18You can see here, this is right from the start, after Sunderland.
01:21:21They're not going to give Sunderland an easy afternoon, which sometimes it feels like they can at this stadium.
01:21:26They got after them, but then poor decision from Richarlison.
01:21:29And the story of it was they just really lack quality.
01:21:32You know, here it's not a difficult ball here from Benton Kerr.
01:21:34Big space to leave that in for Richarlison.
01:21:37He misses it, loses the chance.
01:21:39They get it back again.
01:21:40So, Colin Mwani, again, easy pass.
01:21:43Big, big space to get that in with Premier League quality.
01:21:47Doesn't manage to find it.
01:21:48Sunderland off the hook again.
01:21:50And when Spurs were on top and Thomas Frank talked about missing some opportunities,
01:21:55here, Pedro Porro, when he breaks, he finally shows a moment of quality.
01:21:58And you think, this is it, what a ball.
01:22:01And then they lack quality on the end of it with a really poor first touch.
01:22:04And the chance fizzles out.
01:22:05And then when you need a moment of quality, this Sunderland side never know when they're beat.
01:22:09And this is real top, top draw.
01:22:11The moment of quality didn't come from Spurs.
01:22:12It comes from Sunderland.
01:22:14Fantastic link up from Brobby.
01:22:15And that pass from Le Fay on the volley to get the weight of it and the direction of it right.
01:22:20And then an emphatic finish from Brobby.
01:22:23Smashes right through the ball.
01:22:25Absolutely no chance for the goalkeeper.
01:22:27And this Sunderland train keeps on rolling.
01:22:29And they're very, very difficult to stop at the moment.
01:22:31And there's pressure on Thomas Frank.
01:22:33You could hear the boos, couldn't you, at the end of the game.
01:22:36What do you feel the kind of, the music, the mood music is like around Spurs?
01:22:39I kind of look at the table there, the 13th, a couple of wins are in the Champions League position.
01:22:43It's very tight in the middle of the league.
01:22:44I know that's not what Thomas Frank wants.
01:22:47He wants results and the fans want results.
01:22:49But I think Stake Wolfe maybe, I know Johnson's left this week,
01:22:51maybe he'll get money in the January window to strengthen his squad and push them up the league.
01:22:55OK, shall we take a look at all the goals from yesterday then?
01:23:03Oh dearie me, give it straight to Emma Nielsen!
01:23:08And away from Semenyo and still going and across and blocked.
01:23:18But in Arsenal level.
01:23:20And it is Gabriel!
01:23:23Jokerev's got the wrong side of his man.
01:23:25Sanessi struggling to recover.
01:23:27Odegaard now.
01:23:28Rice!
01:23:29Brilliant!
01:23:30Absolutely clinical from Declan Rice!
01:23:35Here's Bukayo Saka.
01:23:37Rice!
01:23:39Declan Rice at the double for Arsenal.
01:23:41Cook opens up for the hit here.
01:23:46Oh!
01:23:47What a hit too from Kruppi!
01:23:50Rodgers.
01:23:52Watkins!
01:23:57Cash is in space.
01:23:59Kamara's found him.
01:24:00McGinn coming in!
01:24:042-0 Aston Villa.
01:24:06Gibbs-White bursting forward and he's onside.
01:24:09It's Morgan Gibbs-White for Forrest.
01:24:11Hope is restored.
01:24:16Tielemans into McGinn.
01:24:18Oh, the goalkeeper's in no man's land here.
01:24:21And Sion McGinn makes him play.
01:24:29Ayari Kostoulis is in there.
01:24:32Blasted home by Ruta.
01:24:36Lugachukwu tries to send it away.
01:24:38Sliding in.
01:24:39But Yasin Ayari collects it here.
01:24:41Oh, it's the perfect start to the second half for Brandon Hove Albion.
01:24:47And it goes to Huang.
01:24:50Huang's ball across and Wolves in front.
01:24:53As far as Mane, he goes down and wins the penalty.
01:25:03So Huang, with an opportunity to give Wolves a 2-0 lead.
01:25:08An opportunity he takes.
01:25:13Mane's onside, no question of that.
01:25:15And he has a goal!
01:25:16And he has a goal!
01:25:17And it's three!
01:25:18A big moment, a big day for Wolves.
01:25:25I know you were pleased for your old team there.
01:25:28One of your other old teams as a player, West Ham, in big trouble.
01:25:32Yeah, it seems that way, doesn't it?
01:25:33I thought that when they appointed Nuno, that they would start to move themselves away and we'd see an upturn.
01:25:39It hasn't quite gone that way yet.
01:25:41I'm sure they'll be doing their best in January to give him some support and try and give themselves an opportunity.
01:25:47Because that gap just seems to be widening.
01:25:49Nottingham Forest haven't quite capitalised, but Leeds have moved themselves away from it.
01:25:53So, fantastic win for Wolves.
01:25:54Absolutely delighted for Rob as well, because I know he's working his socks off there and he's got their first victory, which will feel like a big one.
01:26:00But West Ham, with an awful lot of work to do to move away from that bottom three.
01:26:03Big game against Forest on Tuesday, of course.
01:26:05Now, we've loved having you here, haven't we?
01:26:06We've had a great day today.
01:26:07We've all been in since 12 o'clock, watching all the matches.
01:26:10I'm sure you've had a lovely time as well.
01:26:12Yeah, it's been fantastic.
01:26:12But you'd much rather be managing.
01:26:14Of course.
01:26:14Would you?
01:26:16Well, yeah, this has been great.
01:26:19It's not quite as stressful as managing, but I do miss being on the touchline.
01:26:22It's a fantastic feeling.
01:26:23So, hopefully back soon.
01:26:24Hopefully something comes up that you feel you want to do more than spend time with Shea and I.
01:26:29Yeah, yeah.
01:26:29Good choice, really.
01:26:31OK, here's how the Premier League table looks after 20 games played.
01:26:36Back-to-back draws for Manchester City means Arsenal have a six-point lead at the top.
01:26:40Brentford have made their joint best start to a Premier League season and are only four points off Liverpool in fourth.
01:26:44In fact, a mere four points separates fifth all the way down to 14th.
01:26:47Leeds extend their gap above the bottom three to a healthy eight points after a seventh match without defeat.
01:26:52But Crystal Palace's run of poor form continues with a fourth league loss in five.
01:26:56Now, it's time for the results of Goal of the Month.
01:26:59And in third place is Fulham's Harry Wilson on 23.92% of the vote.
01:27:22This is relevant because Morgan Rodgers got 23.96% of the vote.
01:27:28Talk about tight margins for his goal against Manchester United.
01:27:31So, the winner with 26.46%.
01:27:35Well, it was a team goal, really, wasn't it?
01:27:36But it was finished by Dominic Calvert-Lewin for Leeds United.
01:27:39Leeds did that well, though.
01:27:48Stack.
01:27:49Super ball from him and to Aronson.
01:27:53Numbers forward here, Leeds.
01:27:55Aronson.
01:27:56Calvert-Lewin!
01:27:56It's a fabulous team goal.
01:28:06And Calvert-Lewin's incredible streak in front of Goal continues.
01:28:14Scored on the 28th of December against Sunderland.
01:28:17A lovely team goal.
01:28:18Happy with that one?
01:28:19Yeah.
01:28:19Yeah, I thought they were all good goals, but nice to see a team goal win.
01:28:22Thanks for coming.
01:28:23Thanks for coming, Shea, as well.
01:28:24We'll see you again, definitely.
01:28:25That's it from all of us.
01:28:26So, the festive period ends with Arsenal six points clear at the top of the table
01:28:29as Manchester City are left frustrated by the Enzo Late Show.
01:28:33Good night.
