20:11He just doesn't have the firepower.
20:13So the offensive line is doing all it can to help running backs,
20:16give quarterbacks time,
20:18but plays aren't being made downfield in the throwing game.
20:21And with the runners, they're getting what they can,
20:23but they're not getting anything extra.
20:24And against Buffalo, that's tough to do.
20:27You see the first half numbers for the quarterbacks.
20:29Two touchdown passes for Mitch Trubisky.
20:33It will be Jets football to begin the second half.
20:41In the month of December, the Jets were outscored by 107 points.
20:48That was the worst point differential of any team in December in NFL history.
20:54Here's Williams on the return for the Jets.
20:58And Williams edges forward to the 30-yard line.
21:02A moment ago, A.J. Ross with Aaron Glenn.
21:06Coach, three for eight on third downs in that first half.
21:09A couple penalties set you guys back.
21:10What's the key to getting something going offensively here?
21:13The thing is, we can't allow any negative yardage.
21:15We always got to get positive yards on first down,
21:18and then that gives the chance.
21:19The thing is, this team is really good at pass defense.
21:21So what we're doing is we're allowing them to do what they do best.
21:24Defensively, we've got to tackle better.
21:25If we do that, we'll be just fine.
21:26Thanks, Coach. Good luck.
21:29Tackling was a big issue last week against the Patriots.
21:32It's exposed itself again a few times so far today.
21:35Cook out of the shotgun, throwing on first down.
21:41Quick pass to Herbert.
21:42And Dorian Williams is able to get a hand on him as he goes out of bounds.
21:47Here's a look at the first half numbers,
21:49and not a lot offensively for the Jets.
21:52They haven't really been able to get anything going.
21:54You heard Aaron Glenn say that.
21:56They want to have positive plays.
21:58Stay out of those negative situations.
21:59Try to stay in front of the chains so they can get Charles
22:02into those third and short opportunities to move it.
22:06But if they're going to stay in front of the chains,
22:07they need to get more than two or three yards on first down
22:10in order to get their offense activated.
22:20Herbert on second down.
22:22Slips a couple of tackles, but then tripped up by Maxwell Hairston.
22:26The rookie first rounder out of Kentucky makes the play.
22:29Was that an example, Jason, of what Aaron Glenn was talking about?
22:33His Jets need to tackle better.
22:35Here's an example that Buffalo could give you.
22:37And it's exactly what you said at halftime when you said
22:39when a play comes your way, just make your play.
22:43For Maxwell Hairston, you get an opportunity,
22:45one-on-one, put a running back right there.
22:47That's your opportunity to come up and get a guy on the ground.
22:50We saw that from him there.
22:52He's a player they're going to count on big come playoff time.
22:55The first round pick out of Kentucky.
22:59Play clock down to three.
23:02It's third and six for the Jets.
23:06Cook looking sideline, and Williams makes the catch right at the sticks.
23:12Let's see.
23:14It looks like it's going to be just short.
23:16It was a good catch along the sideline by Williams.
23:18It'll be fourth down and less than a yard.
23:21It's almost frustrating for the corner because, look,
23:25he was thinking about undercutting this play.
23:27See him out there?
23:29He's seeing the play all the way in front of him.
23:31He's drinking, I've got a chance to make a play and go the other way.
23:34And it goes over his hands.
23:35And a nice catch by the Jets' receiver.
23:37The details of the route for Williams.
23:39Get ahead of those chains to give yourself a chance to pick it up.
23:43Here's the quarterback sneak last time.
23:46Fourth and inches.
23:47Cook trying to do it again.
23:48There's some pushback this time.
23:51And I don't think he got it.
23:53Buffalo football.
23:54Aaron Glenn's team not able to convert on fourth and inches.
24:08A little extracurricular after as we take another look.
24:12And I've been a big proponent of this Jets' offensive line
24:15throughout the game and throughout the season.
24:17They're just outnumbered here.
24:18Just too many blue shirts, red helmets up there.
24:21There's Bobby Babich, defensive coordinator,
24:23exhorting his troops and exulting in a fourth down stop
24:28for the Buffalo Bills' D.
24:30But a late flag has come out.
24:32Not sure if that's the extracurricular
24:34or if something happened before the Jets failed to pick it up.
24:38Rolling on the field.
24:39The ball carrier was stopped short in line of the game,
24:41resulting in a change of possession on downs.
24:43After the play was over, unsportsmanlike conduct,
24:45number 57 of the defense.
24:4715-yard penalty.
24:49It's first and 10, Buffalo.
24:50So the penalty is after the stop, and it goes on A.J. Epinesa.
24:58So that'll push Buffalo back, but it will be Bills football
25:01when we return on CBS.
25:09Penalty was on A.J. Epinesa as we take another look
25:12at what happened after the Bills stopped the Jets.
25:14There's Epinesa, 57, takes offense to getting pushed in the back
25:20and is pushing and shoving it.
25:21Alenek, the official, the referee, trying to settle things down.
25:26And then at the end of it, he and Epinesa had a discussion,
25:31and then the flag came out.
25:32Put it in your butt.
25:34That backed the Bills up 15 yards.
25:36Ray Davis gets almost all of it right back.
25:38A 14-yard run for Ray Davis.
25:46Charles, you talked about it a few weeks ago.
25:49The Bills being able to run for almost 250 yards
25:53against the Pittsburgh Steelers
25:54without their starting offensive tackles,
25:56and they've continued that effort today
25:58where we've been able to move the ball,
25:59especially on first down of running straight downhill,
26:03moving people out of the way.
26:04And the running backs have done a great job
26:06of getting to that second level
26:07and picking up extra yards.
26:10Davis with a season-high 71 yards rushing today.
26:18Trubisky on the move.
26:20And he's going to keep it himself.
26:22Cut from behind by Jermaine Johnson,
26:24but Trubisky showing off the wheels,
26:26and he picks up eight yards.
26:30That was the one thing Trubisky told us
26:32when we spoke to him yesterday.
26:33You don't get many opportunities
26:35when you get a backup quarterback to play,
26:37so you relish each and every moment
26:39where you get a chance to go out there
26:40and prove to the guys
26:41that you've been putting into work
26:43and that you're ready.
26:44He said it's like being in school again
26:46and you're preparing for a test all week long
26:48because you have no idea
26:49if there's actually going to be a test.
26:51Well, he knew this week,
26:52and you can tell Trubisky was prepared
26:54for his opportunity.
26:55He called it a huge opportunity for him.
26:58First start of the year.
26:59Gilliam, and Reggie Gilliam picks up the first down.
27:06So let's bring you up to speed with James Cook
27:09going for the NFL rushing title,
27:13and Derrick Henry, who plays later tonight,
27:15will need 153 yards to pass James Cook.
27:20Jonathan Taylor only had 26 yards today,
27:23so Cook doesn't have to worry about Taylor anymore.
27:25It's Henry tonight,
27:26and we met with Deion Dawkins on Friday,
27:29and he told us that the entire team
27:31really wants this title for James Cook.
27:34He says as an offensive line,
27:35we don't get a lot of love, and that's okay,
27:37but this is one thing that would be very meaningful
27:41for the Bills offense.
27:44Davis back on the ground.
27:46Dawkins also told us that James Cook
27:48called him Thursday night and said,
27:51I want this bad,
27:53and I think that goes back to A.J.'s initial report.
27:56There was a lot that Sean McDermott
27:58had to wrestle with this week,
28:00including James Cook going for the rushing title.
28:04Think about it.
28:04We were standing up here in the booth,
28:05and we saw Sean McDermott right before the game
28:08go and have a conversation with James Cook,
28:11and a lot of that probably had to do
28:12with Jonathan Taylor not putting up big numbers,
28:15him already being ahead.
28:16They can't control what happens
28:18with Derrick Henry later on tonight,
28:19so an excellent season by James Cook nonetheless.
28:23Trubisky, and oh my goodness, Quincy Williams,
28:28as the Jets are still looking
28:29for their first interception of the season,
28:32and that was a great chance.
28:35This is the last time the Jets picked off a pass.
28:38Week 18, a year ago,
28:41Ashton Davis against the Dolphins.
28:44It has been 530 consecutive passes
28:49since that Ashton Davis pick
28:52against the Jets did.
28:54He was trying to do it essentially one-handed.
28:56Club on his hand.
28:56He's got a hand tapped and wrapped up as a club,
28:59so...
28:59No excuses, Quincy.
29:00He's got a touchdown.
29:01We need an interception.
29:02Mr. Trubisky threw it to the right guy.
29:04This run is caught by Gabe Davis
29:07for a Buffalo first down.
29:11If you go throw an errant pass,
29:13throw it to the guy with a club on one hand,
29:16he's going to have a harder time catching it.
29:17This time, he doesn't even bother with that
29:19and throws it to Gabe Davis.
29:21Remember, Gabe Davis came and was on the practice squad
29:24for a number of weeks with Buffalo
29:25and is rounding into form,
29:27and they trust him.
29:28Not just the fans knowing him from before,
29:31but Josh Allen knows him.
29:33Remember when he was big game, Gabe?
29:35Yeah.
29:35In the playoffs, 201 yards against Kansas City,
29:38well over 100 against Miami.
29:40This guy knows how to perform
29:41when the lights are brightest.
29:43On first down and 10,
29:45Trubisky to the air,
29:46throwing, and it is...
29:49Caught by Keon Coleman.
29:52Now some discussion about where to spot the football.
29:55And they're going to put it down at the 1.
29:59First and goal for the Bills.
30:02That's big for Keon Coleman.
30:05It's been documented the ups and downs of the season
30:07being a healthy scratch multiple times this year.
30:10Getting an opportunity here in Week 18.
30:12Not a lot of the starters on the field,
30:14but a playoff game coming up,
30:16and this gives him an opportunity
30:17to try to earn some more trust back
30:19from his teammates
30:20and especially for his quarterback, Josh Allen.
30:23Now Ty Johnson gets 250 grand
30:27if he scored two touchdowns today.
30:29He already has one.
30:30He's the running back here.
30:32And the Bills call timeout.
30:35Buffalo.
30:36Ty Johnson, he wants that ball.
30:438.45 to go.
30:44We take a look at some of the early headlines
30:46in the NFL.
30:47Wow, the Jaguars look good.
30:49Could be the next Bills opponent
30:51next weekend in the playoffs.
30:53Panthers win the NFC South
30:55thanks to the Falcons,
30:56and Miles Garrett does it
30:57finishing the season
30:59with a new NFL record,
31:0023 sacks.
31:04Remember, he was going down the stretch
31:06where it looked like it was inevitable,
31:08like it was a lot.
31:10In the last couple of games,
31:11sacks were hard to come by,
31:12but he finally got there,
31:14got over the top.
31:15Congratulations, Miles Garrett.
31:17A really rough season in Cleveland.
31:19He was a huge bright spot.
31:27You know, Ty Johnson was telling them
31:28when they went back out there,
31:30whatever you do,
31:30do not check this play.
31:32Do not audible.
31:33Well, we talked with Trubisky
31:35about player incentives.
31:37He said he wanted to know
31:38every one of his teammates' incentives,
31:41and he wanted to try to help him.
31:43It could help him in a big way here
31:44by handing the ball to Ty Johnson.
31:47Instead, they gave it to Gilliam
31:48up the middle,
31:49and Gilliam still moving forward,
31:52but he stops.
31:55Okay, see, I don't think
31:56that's an incentive play.
31:57I think that's just a play
31:58as a reward for everything
31:59Gilliam has done all year long,
32:01blocking for everyone else.
32:02Joe Brady's like,
32:03all right, you had your shot.
32:05Let me look at my play sheet now.
32:08Would have been Gilliam's
32:10first career rushing touchdown,
32:13but now he comes out.
32:19Bill's still in the huddle
32:20with the play clock at 10.
32:24It is Ty Johnson at running back.
32:30Trubisky looking for Joshua
32:32Palmer in the end zone,
32:33and it's broken up by Womack.
32:35It's a play by Samuel Womack.
32:38That's a real good job, Jason,
32:40of what they teach us all the time.
32:42You don't give up on anything.
32:44Talk about Womack.
32:45That ball's over his head,
32:47and look at it,
32:48it's in the bread basket,
32:49and he doesn't give up,
32:50and fights all the way through
32:51that play to knock it free.
32:52And this excellent red zone technique,
32:54how you play the ball
32:55when you're in the field
32:56opposed to when you're down here
32:57in the end zone,
32:58it's different,
32:58because you always have to stay
32:59underneath the wide receiver.
33:01So as a cornerback or a DB,
33:03you're taught to play his hands,
33:05and Womack does an excellent job.
33:06Doesn't turn for the ball,
33:08but is waiting for Palmer's hands
33:10to go up,
33:10and he breaks it out of the pocket.
33:12Excellent technique by him.
33:14Davis in and running back.
33:15Trubisky play action.
33:16Trubisky throwing end zone incomplete.
33:21Looking for Keon Coleman,
33:22Gabe Davis,
33:23who's also in the back of the end zone,
33:26and now it's fourth and goal for Buffalo.
33:29Trubisky wished he had that one back.
33:30He had Gabe Davis wide open
33:33with all the action coming to the right side.
33:36You're going to see Gabe Davis
33:37come streaking across the field this way,
33:40and he's throwing it in the middle,
33:41but if he would have went to Gabe Davis
33:43on the outside out here,
33:44there was no one in his vicinity.
33:47Almost felt like what we've talked about
33:49throughout this game.
33:50Guys, you want going well in the playoffs.
33:53Trying to give Keon Coleman
33:54a little taste right there.
34:02Injured Jet walking off the field.
34:05That's why we have a brief stoppage.
34:07A.J. also has an injury update.
34:09Yeah, guys, with the Bills here in the red zone,
34:10it's actually coming from Bills staff
34:12that their kicker, Matt Crater,
34:13is out for the remainder of this game
34:15with a quad injury, guys.
34:16Wow, that was the same injury
34:18that made him be inactive the last two games.
34:21That's a big concern for Buffalo
34:23with the playoffs going forward.
34:24It was Woback who went off for the Jets,
34:27and now it's fourth and goal.
34:31Trubisky has some time.
34:32Throwing end zone.
34:33And it is Cole Gay Davis.
34:40What a catch by Davis.
34:42His first touchdown of the season.
34:45And now, with Crater being ruled out,
34:55the Bills will stay on the field and go for two.
34:58Charles, you said he shows up when the lights are the brightest.
35:02Look at this catch.
35:04Jasir Taylor play in the pocket,
35:06has his hands all in there.
35:07And Gabe Davis, all hands catch,
35:09reaches out and snags that football.
35:12And when you make a touchdown catch like that,
35:14you can do whatever dance you want in the end zone.
35:17That, Charles, they call that the Dougie.
35:19There you go.
35:20Bringing it back.
35:21That's back in our era there.
35:24And you know, when you're going for two here,
35:26you're almost feeling if you're Sean McDermott,
35:28somehow you want to get word to Aaron Glenn.
35:30I'm not trying to rub anything in here.
35:32My kicker's hurt.
35:33I've got to go for two here.
35:35Trubisky.
35:37Keon Coleman has got it.
35:41Before that play,
35:42the Bills were just one for seven
35:44on two-point conversions this year.
35:46That was the worst of the NFL.
35:48But they get it done this time.
35:52And it is a party in Orchard Park, New York.
